Author's note: hey guys and gals sorry for the wait on this chapter . Thanks again for all the reviews I will continue to try and improve and take any suggestions on board . I plan to develop the shep/Teyla relationship as I go but I will assure you all now it won't be a problem for Atlantis as some of you have asked in The reviews .
" Okay first of all repair of the city is our main priority going forward, there is a lot of damage that needs to be fixed . One of the ways we will be going about this will be fixing our power supply issues and fortunately Atlantis and I have already set in motion the solution to that problem".
" how have you done that ? We've been struggling with power since the start so unless you've come across a stash of ZPMs or found a way to make new one's were in the same position we've always been". Rodney asked sarcastically.
He didn't want to come across sounding so bitter but the fact that he had devoted his spare time for the last 6 years trying to fix their power problems with no results was disheartening. To have John come up with a solution so quickly was frustrating to the genius.
" No stash of ZPMs unfortunately, although Atlantis did say that she has the facilities to make them . However they are currently sealed away to stop people like the IOA abusing the technology and will remain like that way until we can adequately protect the city from outside influence ".
It went to show how untrustworthy the IOA are that not a single person in attendance disagreed or argued with what John had just said. Even Rodney knew the damage that would be caused if the powers that be go their hands on unlimited ZPMs.
" From what Atlantis has told me she was originally built without the need for ZPMs , the city was designed to run on six rechargeable generators each one with the output of 1/3 of a ZPM. All six of the generators have been depleted , however Atlantis and I have started up the recharge process".
As John was explaining this he sent to each of their tablets a map of the city displaying where the generators are located and how they connect to the collectors .
" As you can see on your tablets the generators or connected to various natural energy collectors located throughout the city. Radek I'm sending you a list of all the collectors that are offline or damaged. I want you to assign a team of engineers and get them all fixed up , this a priority as the more collectors online the fastest the generators recharge". John said facing the new head of the science department.
" I will review this and do so after the meeting , can I have the use of some of the marine combat engineers for some of the heavy lifting repairs ? Also what shall we do with the severely damage collectors ? I see some of them are placed in the pier that suffered the meteorite damage. " .
Despite having been in charge of the science department for only a few months Radek was already seeing better results and productivity . His over all kinder demeanour was a stark contrast to Rodney's need to brow beats others into compliance . This more than anything else lead others to respecting his leadership which helped produce better results.
" assign whoever you need to, just pass the list to major Lorne to make it sure he doesn't have them on the duty roster. As to dealing with the really damaged sections that will be dealt with by the next move I plan to put into action. " This time John sent out the schematics for the harvesters to everyone tablets.
" These are remote mineral harvesters they we will be deployed throughout the gate to collect the raw materials needed to repair the city. We currently only have three of these harvesters , for the time being all harvesters except one harvester -which I plan to devote for drone production- will be set aside to make additional harvesters, until such time that we have twenty-five harvesters after which all but five harvesters will be set aside for use in the city, the remaining five will continue to be used to make more harvesters until we have a full complement which according to Atlantis is 50 harvesters. ".
" how long does it take for a harvester to complete it's collection ? And how will the material be used in the city ? You mentioned drone production ? " asked Elizabeth unconsciously slipping into her old role of devils advocate .
" Depending on the environment Atlantis believes it should take on average one week for a full harvest to be gathered . As to how the minerals will be used the city has an automated repair system which takes the minerals and uses it take make structural repairs . Also there is a construction lab which can make various pieces of equipment such as the harvesters and drones . The materials from one harvester will give us enough to make to new harvesters or 600 drones. " John explained.
" The next project I have planned I want you Miko to oversee. I would like you to try get the hyperdrive puddle jumper working , then using what's left of the gate bridge travel to the void between galaxies and lead a team to salvage the Tria and Sun Tzu".
Surprise ran through the room as everyone remembered that the Tria was left drifting in the void between the two galaxies . Everyone knew that the Sun Tzu was crippled by the wraith and abandoned with little hope of being salvaged until another ship was commissioned.
" John using Dr Mckays gate bridge I can send out a subspace command directed at the Tria recalling it to the closest Stargate so you won't have to use the hyperdrive puddle jumper to traverse the distance ".
" Ok scrap the plans for the jumper ,Atlantis has told me she can use the gate bridge to recall the Tria to the closest gate in the bridge . Instead I want you to go over all the data we have on the Tria , you have the most experience when it comes to repairing ancient ships I trust you can get her up and running again . "
" Thank you colonel, I look forward to working another ship I assume the Tria is the priority before the Sun Tzu ? ". Miko asked eagerly .
Being born with the gene and having worked on the Orion and Avenger she has learnt that each ship has its own personality .Miko couldn't wait to see what the Tria was like and was happy to have the chance to interact with a new ship .
" Yes the Tria is a priority , try to get the hyperdrive working then go get the Sun Tzu after which I want them both brought back here for further repairs . Whilst we're talking ships I have a project for you Elizabeth , I hope you can help with this as well Daniel. ".
Daniel and Elizabeth exchanged looks of confusion, while both of them had passing knowledge about spaceships neither one of them would be considered and expert or the people to go to run a project on the subject.
As one they both looked back to John silently prompting him to continue .
" Elizabeth you may not recall this , before you ascended you spent time with a group of replicators who were seeking to reach machine ascension . You and this group stole one of the replicator warships and settled on a remote planet to continue your pursuit without interruption . As far as we know that ship should still be on that planet just waiting to be salvaged. ".
" I'm sorry John but I only have vague memories of my time the replicators I'm not sure if I can help you find the planet your looking for" . Frustration and regret clear in her voice over the fact that a chunk of her memories where missing.
" I'm guessing this is where I come in " interjected Daniel .
" As someone who is also a former ascended you know what it's like to have to regain your memories. I was hoping you might have some suggestions on how to help Elizabeth get here back ". John asked hopefully
" I do know some meditation techniques that can help to get some of the memories back but getting a specific memory is more difficult. You might be better off using a Tok'ra memory recall device , it helps to stimulate buried memories and you also have the option of connecting the device to a screen so that others can watch the memories". Daniel explained to Elizabeth.
" Elizabeth is that something you'd be willing to try , if so I will request that the device Daniel suggested be part of the next supply run. " John asked Elizabeth gently, well aware that digging through old memories can be painful .
" I want to give it a try John , not only would it benefit us to find the ship but I want no need to get those memories back for my own piece of mind ".
" Ok if your sure I will put in the request to the SGC. The next point is food production , Atlantis tells me there is a number of advanced hydroponic bays that will easily meet our food needs. Radek I want you to assign Dr Parrish in the botany department some engineers to clean and get the bays functioning as soon as possible".
"Finally the last task is for you McKay , I'm going to request the Odyssey be on the next supply run so that we can get a copy of the Asgard computer core. I would like you to install and utilise as much of the Asgard tech as you can. Also I read in some of Carter's mission reports that she once reprogrammed the Asgard computer to synthesize basically whatever she wanted as long as there was power , can you do the same ?" .
" About time , I've been asking for years to get Asgard tech equipped in the city but I kept getting stonewalled. And of course I can reprogram the core , anything Sam can do I can do . Oh the things I could do with the Asgard core this will completely change everything I have to get started immediately ".
trailed off as he excitedly ran out the room heading to his lab completely lost in his own musings , oblivious to the amused exasperation of those still sitting in the room.
" Okay then you all have you tasks I won't keep you any longer , I look forward to seeing the results of your efforts . I now have the fun task of trying to convince general Landry to send out the Odyssey, dismissed.
