*Marshall pov*
Me and Spyro were in his room sitting on his bed. He was adjusting his Instrument. Spyro pulls out a sheet and started adjusting his voice. I sit in front of him. He smiles at me. It has been a year since Spyro joined the team. Everything has been great since he joined.
He just brings an energy that lightens everyone's mood. All the pups love him but for some reason, he spends a lot of time with me. I have learned a lot about him in that time. But today was different, I had a very important question to ask him.
"Hey, Spyro, I have a question?" I ask him and he turns to me and smiles. "Sure, fire away," He tells me still with that smile. "When is it okay to take a life?" I ask with hesitation. His smile changes to more of a thinking face like he didn't know the answer.
"There is no real answer to your question but it is not one we can just ignore," he tells me. "In battle, you will have to decide if your opponent will live or die." he went into full thinking mode. "In the end, who can decide who lives and dies, He tells me.
"If you are asking my opinion, The only reason someone should die is if they hurt the ones you love." He tells me with a frown like he has had to make a decision like the one he said. "If someone hurts someone you love it might not be up to you anymore," He tells while deep in thought.
"What do you mean by that?" I ask him. He looks at me now knowing he said that out loud. "Oh, it's nothing, how about we go get some ice cream?" He asks me and my tail starts to wag. "Really!" I ask him.
"Yeah sure let us go ask Ryder if it's okay," he said while getting up. Now I know what he meant that day. Caring about someone can be your own downfall. But at that moment I didn't care all I cared about was revenge.
I stare down at the six black wolves and one red. I'll I saw was hatred in these wolves, no remorse, no sorrow, and no pity. They had that smile that would give you nightmares. I had matched their hatred.
I grip my sword in my mouth, controlling my breath. Six wolves stood in my way to my real target, all with hungry smiles. I focus on controlling my muscles and breaths. Then I make my move.
I dash at the first wolf and slice into his neck with a quick slash. He started to choke on his own blood but I had no remorse. But I did not have much time as two more tried to slash me with their claws but I swiftly move my sword to block both slashes.
As I block the attack I slide under them making my way closer. I see Chase in the corner of my eye pulling out his sword and taking on the two wolves I slid under. I roll into another clash with a wolf but as I block I grab his paw and throw him on the ground on his back.
I quickly slice his neck too but a wolf tried to jump me but I duck and slice a deep wound in his stomach and he falls to the floor. Now I have a clear path to the red wolf and I rush at him.
I see him look at him with fear not courage, he feared for his life. But that did not stop me from doing what I was doing. These wolves killed people in Adventure Bay, They Took a friend and yet they fear for their life like we would have remorse for them.
"Wait we can talk about this" The red wolf tried to say but did not hesitate, no mercy. I rush at him, Dragon Style, Form Seven, Swift jab. I say in my mind. And lunge my sword into his neck. It goes straight in and the sword gets stuck in the wall. A few pebbles fall to the ground where my sword was stuck.
"I'm sorry Spyro," I say to myself. I remember him telling to only ever use this if I had to but I used it in anger.
"Head up keep going" I see we were in a field and Spyro was in front of me talking to me. I am holding my sword but Spyro was holding a stick. Flowers surround us. Spyro had a neutral expression.
This was the day we first had a dual. I have been training for around three months now and Spyro wanted to see what I got. But at this point is where I messed up. Started with a blade-to-blade clash and quickly try to stab but he quickly slap me in the face.
I fall to the ground with a *thud* and my sword land a few feet away from me. I get up and stare him down. "Why would you slap me!" I yell at him but I soon get silenced by him. "Do You Have ANY Idea Of What You Just Did!" He yells at me and I quickly take a step back and put my tail between my legs.
"No-o" I tell him with a stutter. "You just tried to use a jab attack," he said more calmly than before because he had my attention. "That kind of move can and will get someone killed," he tells with more concern than anger.
He looked more like a concerned parent and kneeled down to my level. "I'm not mad at, just concerned."He tells me."You need to be more careful in the way you handle your sword, it is a deadly weapon for a reason." Spyro tells me with a smile.
"Emotions are a strong thing, if you let them take control you may make mistakes and even get someone killed," he tells me still smiling. Just promise me that you will not use your sword in anger." He asked.
"I promise," I tell him. If only I could keep that promise. I look at the red wolf infront of me, blood gushing out of his neck. I grab the sliver pendant out of his paws. 'That for Everest." I tell him but some wolf comes up behind me.
I quickly let go of my sword and swing my head so I can grab Spyros's sword. I grasp it and swing it straight into the wolf's claws. Then I swiftly lung it into his neck, slicing it. The wolf that attacked me was the one with a chest wound.
I see the wolves Chase is fighting on the ground and slice their necks too. Then I see the wolf that led us I lunged at him. He covers his eyes. "MARSHALL DON'T!" Chase yells at me but It did not phase me.
I went straight for his. Right as I was about to slice him too I sensed something. Remorse, fear, regret, and shame. I stop my blade right infront of his neck.
"Why," I ask him. He looks at me with fear and backs up. "Why what?" he asked me fearing the worst. "Why are you different," I asked him not understanding what was different.
Now Chase walks up to me. "Are you okay?" Chase asks me. "No," I answered honestly. "But what I don't understand is why do you feel REMORSE! I point at the wolf and yell.
He looks at me with fear but Tries to answer. Do You-u rea-ally thin-nk I wa-anted this" He tells me. I take his answer in. "Do you know where she is?" Chase asked him while I was taking in his answer.
"The half-wolf girl?" He tells us which confuses me. "Half-wolf?" I ask him. He looks confused. "You didn't know she was part wolf did you?" I shake my head and think. Why would she not tell us that?
"I hate to break you out of your thought but you don't have much time," he tells us. "What do you mean?" Chase asked. He starts walking outside and looks like he wants us to follow him. He stares at the moon.
"It is almost time," he tells us "When the mood reaches its highest point is went it will start" "What starts," I ask.
He stares at me and sighs. "Her execution…"
