Chapter 16: The Week Of
Monday
Noah was practically bouncing as he waited for Roldy. They were renting a cabin near the resort that the wedding was being held at. He was standing with Matt and Penelope, outside the main office where Kelly and Roldy handling all the paperwork. The wedding was a week away. There was so much still left to be done, but today they were settling in with a few appointments later in the afternoon.
"Noah!"
Noah turned around as Kyle ran up to him with Jared in tow. Miles was trailing behind them with a camera in hand.
"About time Munroe, we thought you guys got lost," Matt joked.
"We did, we missed our exit and my gps sent us like way out of the way," Kyle said.
"We took the scenic route," Jared chuckled.
"What's Miles doing here?" Noah asked looking at the teen confused.
"As your official videographer, I decided to come up early and catch the last week of prepping on video and help finish Noah's video diaries about the wedding planning. I'm your assistant for the week," Miles said, "who will be recording your every step."
"Unless you tell him not to," Kyle added quickly.
"Right, and I will also be taking Kyle's spot. I'm also his assistant for the week too," Miles said.
"Where are the girls?" Penelope asked changing the subject.
"They have couple days of school left and they are staying with my dads," Kyle replied.
"Besides do you want two kids running around with us all week?" Jared asked.
"No, we've got too much to do," Noah said quickly, "today we have go to the florists and make sure the center pieces are good. Next is picking up our suits and making any last minute adjustments, then we have to check in at the bakery for the cake. She's got a sample cake for us and everything," Noah said.
Kyle's hand shot up. "Question. If I want cake do I have to go to all the other appointments?"
"Yes," Roldy said as he approached. The group. He was holding keys.
"Come on, I just want cake. I've got like a million things to do," Kyle said.
"Like what?" Roldy asked, "you knew what you were signing up for."
"Hello, I've been put in charge of music since your other guy backed out. I have to make a set list, I need to know who's doing what, and I still have to make some fine touches on my arrangement of your song," Kyle said, "plus I've still got like two history assignments to finish that are due at midnight tonight. A another english due tomorrow, that I haven't even started. That's why I brought Miles. He can take my place as needed."
"Ok you're excused," Noah said.
"Keys? I gotta get to work," Kyle said as his phone started ringing. He sighed as he fished to from his pocket, only to groan when he saw dad flash across the screen. "Jer get the keys I gotta take this."
He walked away from the group as he answered his phone. The others watched him.
"Noah, I asked you to ask Tim," Jared said rounding on the smaller man.
"Tim was going to, but Kyle over heard and said he could do it. I tried to talk him out of it and Tim was more than willing to do it, but you know Kyle," Noah said.
"He bites off more than he can chew sometimes," Jared said watching as Kyle argued with Kendall.
"I think he likes the pressure," Miles said.
"So lets get settled," Matt said.
"Miles I didn't realize you would be here," Noah said.
"Kyle told me yesterday. It's all taken care of," Roldy said handing out keys.
Kyle returned to the group with a frown. He was on his phone typing hurriedly. "Jared where's your laptop? Dad said the video file he got was wrong and the audio wasn't synced right."
"In my bag in the car, you can send it to him once we get settled," Jared said.
"What file did you send him? I made sure the video rendered correctly," Kyle said.
"We aren't here to work Kyle," Jared said.
"Well if someone did what I asked, we wouldn't have to," Kyle replied.
"Ok enough arguing, let's go to our cabin and get settled in," Miles cut them off.
"Yes let's go, we have meetings at 3:30," Noah said.
"Miles and I will be there Noah," Jared promised.
"Yep, the people want to see more of the behind the scenes stuff, imma call this the week of," Noah said holding his camera off. "All jokes aside, I will edit out anything you want me to, or won't film certain things."
"Come on we still have a little more driving to do," Matt said.
"Yes let's go," Noah said excitedly.
"Ok you boys have fun, I'm actually staying at the hotel," Kelly said, "I'll meet up with you guys later."
Everyone headed out to their cars and left. Jared followed behind Roldy as they headed to the cabin. Once they everyone helped one another to get all their bags inside.
Matt and Penelope claimed one of the down stairs rooms. Roldy and Noah claimed the downstairs master bedroom. Kyle and Jared got the master upstairs, and Miles was down the hall from them. Once everyone was settled in, they all met up in the kitchen.
Kyle hopped up on the counter with his feet on a stool and Jared's laptop in his lap, with his own laptop beside him. He had his phone in his hand as well. Jared stood next to the blonde helping him with finding the correct file to send to Kendall. Miles was sitting at the table fiddling with his camera. Matt and Penelope were also sitting at the table chatting. They were just waiting for Noah and Roldy.
"So Miles, whats with the camera obsession?" Matt asked.
"Ever since my vlog of us going to La Jolla went viral, he's decided he wants to be a film maker," Kyle replied not looking up from the laptop.
"Yep, it's my calling," Miles agreed.
"Just like when you wanted to be a professional stunt man," Kyle asked.
"Still wanna do that too, it sounds like so much fun," Miles said quickly.
"Ask Carlos, it's a lot of work," Kyle said quickly.
"Yeah, yeah," Miles said waving a hand.

Noah looked out the window of their bedroom. They had a nice view of the ski resort. He couldn't help but smile as he thought about the coming week. This was it, by the end of the week he was going to be married.
He heard Roldy shuffle up behind him. He smiled as he wrapped his arms around him.
"I can't believe by this time Saturday we will be getting married," Roldy said softly.
"I know," Noah sighed, "I can't wait."
"Not nervous?" Roldy asked.
"No, you?" Noah asked turning his head to look at Roldy.
"A little, but not like nervous about wanting to marry you, more like nervous about tripping while walking down, or stepping on your feet while we dance," Roldy said. Noah laughed.
"You'll be fine," Noah said. He leaned over and pecked him on the cheek.
"I can't believe it's only a week away. These last few months just seemed to drag by," Roldy said.
"I know what you mean, all this wedding planning has driven me crazy," Noah said.
"It'll all be worth it soon," Roldy said, "So when are your parents arriving?"
"About that," Noah said slowly.
"What's wrong?" Roldy asked.
"My dads not coming," Noah said biting his lip.
"It's his loss then," Roldy said, "I know he's your dad, but I'm done trying to impress him. If he doesn't want to be at our wedding-"
"Thanks Ro," Noah said turning in his embrace and hugging the taller man. "He's awful, but my mom will be here with Trini, Alex and Gina," he said.
"Can't wait," Roldy said.
"Plus Tony RSVP'd with a plus one, and Joey said if he can get time off he will be here, otherwise he will call and chat for a bit," Noah said.
"Tony? Plus one?" Roldy asked.
"I know, I was surprised. I always thought he'd die alone before," Noah joked.
"Seriously me too, he's always been against dating and marriage," Roldy said.
"So what time do your parents arrive?" Noah asked.
"Time? Don't you mean what day," Roldy asked.
"If your mom doesn't show up today I'll be surprised, and she will for sure be here tomorrow," Noah said.
"Yeah, you're right," Roldy chuckled.
Noah walked over to their bed and sat down. Roldy followed him.
"Have you written your vows yet?" Noah asked.
"Of course I did, it was my idea," Roldy chuckled.
"Good, just making sure cause I know you tend to procrastinate at times." Noah smiled.
"Let's go join the others, they're probably waiting for us," Roldy said.
"They can wait," Noah said smiling. He leaned over and sealed their lips together in a soft sweet kiss. "Let's take a moment to ourselves. I feel like we haven't had a moment alone in so long."
"I'll text Jared, they can go get lunch without us," Roldy replied.
He quickly sent Jared a text before turning his attention back to Noah. He tossed his phone aside.
"So now what," Roldy asked with a grin.
"I'm sure you can think of something," Noah replied.
—Happy Mistakes—
Kendall was searching for some paperwork he needed to file while he waited for Kyle's email. He was waiting for Kyle's video file of his latest music video. Kyle had insisted on doing everything himself, since he was now apparently his own producer/director/editor. He had to admit when it came to Kyle he gave him more leeway than other artists he represented. He knew it was because Kyle was his son, but maybe he gave him too much freedom. Every time he tried to reel him back in, Kyle got defensive and it caused an argument between the two.
It also caused the guys to rebel a bit as well. They wanted a little more freedom, which Kendall was more than willing to let them have, but they needed boundaries. The lines were blurring and the guys were becoming less like his band and more like his family. He would do anything for those boys. He would go to bat for any of them.
"Oh boy you look busy."
Kendall looked up shocked. He hadn't heard any one enter his office. He smiled when he saw it was only James.
"What are you doing here?" Kendall asked as he stood and walked over to his husband. He greeted him with a kiss.
"I figured you might have some free time with the guys and Kyle gone, and thought you might like a lunch date," James replied with a shrug.
"Kelly and Penelope are gone too, and I have nothing to do. Everyone is mostly on vacation already," Kendall added.
"So is that a yes to taking me to lunch?" James asked.
"Definitely," Kendall said with a grin. He looked back to his laptop. He needed that video file. He wanted to get it online as soon as possible.
"Ken?" James said.
"I'm just waiting for an email from your son, but it can wait until after lunch," Kendall decided.
"My son?" James asked.
"Yes, he's hair brained just like you sometimes. He sent me the wrong video file and promised to send the right one ASAP, and that was like two hours ago," Kendall said.
"Well, he's probably busy with Noah and Roldy doing wedding stuff," James said glaring at the blonde slightly. "And I'm not hair brained, I'm easily distracted."
"That's what Kyle says too," Kendall said grinning. He grabbed James' hand and led him from his office.
"You so mean to me sometimes," James pouted.
"Come on Jamie, I'm only joking, you know I love you," Kendall said pausing and turning to his husband with a small smile.
"You're lucky you're cute, I can't stay mad at you for long," James sighed.
Kendall quickly pecked the brunette on the lips. "So where to?" He asked.
"Dunno, let's just go and see where we end up," James shrugged.
The two started for the door. As they passed the front desk, they saw Gustavo talking to the receptions Betsy, who was an older woman in her late fifties. She was smiling and laughing at something he said.
"Betsy don't let this man fool you, he's as crazy as the rest of us," Kendall said quickly.
"Oh I know," Betsy said with a smile. "Going to lunch? Want me to hold your calls?"
"Yes please," Kendall said, "have you taken a lunch yet? Or is Gustavo over working you?" Kendall asked teasingly.
"We were just about to head out too," Betsy said with a smile. "My granddaughter showed me this cute little cafe."
"Well have fun," Kendall replied looking to Gustavo, who had remained silent during the entire encounter.
Kendall and James left the building. James was looking over his shoulder confused as to what had just happened.
"Was that-?" James asked slowly.
"Yep," Kendall replied, "he's got the hots for her. It's kind funny, in an endearing way, to watch him get all flustered."
"Oh my god, I don't think I've ever seen Gustavo with anyone," James said.
"I know, this might be good for him," Kendall said,
"He's always put his career first, I hope this works out," James said smiling.
"Me too, he deserves happiness," Kendall said. "And Bets is such a sweetheart. Her husband passed away a few years ago and she had nothing to do, so she came back to work. She worked as a receptionist for most of her life, she's always smiling and she brings donuts most mornings."
James chuckled at that. "Come on, I'm hungry."
—Happy Mistakes—
Kyle sighed as he tossed his phone down on the coffee table and sank into the large couch. He had just gotten back from lunch with the gang and they were heading out to do wedding stuff. He had just gotten off the phone with Kendall who had finally gotten the correct video file. Kendall then launched int a lecture about being safe and not getting into any trouble. He quickly assured Kendall, that he would be fine and hung up.
Kendall had been on his case lately. He wasn't sure what the sudden side for this was. It wasn't like he was slacking in school. Actually he had managed to get his grade up. He was always at the studio recording not producing. He was always busy with something. A lot of other artists at the label wanted his opinion on things. He was always busy at the studio. When he wasn't there he was at 2J taking care of Jill, Carly, and Jared. Those three would be so lost without him. They wouldn't eat home cooked meals, the girls wouldn't make it to school on time because Jared was always late, and they would just be lost all together. Jared had no idea what it took to raise kids. If he had his way the girls would eat frozen pizza and watch TV all night.
Kyle gave Kendall no reason not to trust him. He did everything he asked and then some. Sure he took Adderall to help energize himself, but everyone did it. He knew half the kids in school were on Adderall. He was only leveling the playing field.
Kyle sighed as he stood up. He glanced at his phone, but left it on the coffee table. He needed to relax and get rid of some stress. He made his way up to his and Jared's bedroom. He grabbed his guitar and laptop.
He sat down at the desk and set his laptop up. He grabbed his headphones and started playing some music he had recorded in the studio recently. He started playing around with his guitar.
He was working on an acoustic arrangement for Noah and Roldy's first dance. It was turning out nicely, despite it being a Big Time Rush song. It's not that he hated their music, he just hated that everybody always asked him if he was gonna cover their songs. He hated being compared to his dads. He was Kyle, not Kendall, not James, just Kyle. There was very few people who could convince him to sing at their wedding, and even less to convince him to sing a Big Time Rush song.
He wasn't sure how long he sat there easing around on his laptop recording himself and listening to it back. He had to nail this song for Noah and Roldy. He wanted to make their day special. This was one of his gifts to them.
—Happy Mistakes—
Miles followed Noah and Roldy into the bakery that was making their cake. They were here for a final tasting. Miles has his camera up recording Noah who was explaining what they were doing.
"So, why are we doing this?" Miles asked confused.
"This is going to be like a sample cake," Noah said.
"We can taste the cake and see if we want to change anything," Roldy said.
"Right, so basically we get to eat cake," Matt said.
"What kind of cake?" Jared asked.
"Chocolate mostly," Noah said.
"Except my choice. It's top secret, and trust me it's amazing," Roldy said.
"Top secret?" Miles asked.
"You'll see," Roldy said.
They entered the bakery and the girl at the counter smiled at them. She led them to the back showing room.
"Noah, Roldy!"
A tall woman with a short pink hair walked up to them with a grin she was covered in tattoos and had a couple different piercings. Behind her stood a taller woman, with blonde hair and soft blue eyes.
"Shay," Noah said hugging her. He turned towards Miles and Matt with a grin. "This is Shay, baker extraordinaire," he said.
"So, your the lady who ruined cake for Noah," Matt said.
"Guilty, as charged," Shay said grinning. "Guys I want you to meet Giselle, my cousin and the owner of this bakery." She turned to the blonde.
"Yes, this is my bakery that Shay begged me to use, so she didn't have to haul the cake across the whole state," Giselle said smiling at them.
"Plus Giselle is an awesome cake decorator," Shay said.
"Yep, we will personally make sure your cake is everything you want," Giselle said.
"Yes and first we wanna show you the prototype. It's not real cake so don't get excited," Shay said.
"But we made lots of cupcakes for tasting," Giselle promised.
"So it's like a fake cake?" Miles asked.
"Yes, but the cupcakes are real and delicious," Shay said laughing.
"Well lets get to it," Noah said excitedly.
Giselle and Shay led the group into another room where the fake cake was. There was also a table with several different cupcakes.
The cake was four tiers that were standing on four separate pillars. The pillars were covered with white satin to hide the pillars fron sight and accent the cakes. The cakes were square. The biggest cake was sitting on the table and white with a gold border on the bottom of the cake. The next tier was stacked a little higher. It was also white but covered in a gold and silver lace pattern. The next tier had gold roses with sliver leaves. The final tier was completely covered on gold and had a silver swirl design.
Everyone was inching towards the cupcakes. Noah's attention was on the cake though. He smiled as he looked at it. Roldy seemed pleased as well. As long as Noah was happy, he was happy.
"So this is what you described to me, I think," Shay said.
"It's amazing!" Noah exclaimed.
"Good, it's not quite everything, but that will be on the actual cake," Shay said quickly.
"Did you bring your cake topper?" Giselle asked.
"Of course," Noah said reaching into his bag and pulling out a small rectangular box. It caught the others attention.
"A friend of ours made this," Roldy said smiling as Noah handed the box over to Shay.
"May I?" Shay asked. Noah nodded his head.
Shay opened the box. Inside was a set of groom wedding cake toppers. Noah grinned as she picked them up. They were miniature versions of himself and Roldy. Miles stepped up with his camera filming the reveal.
"Where did you get these?" Matt asked.
"Winnie made them," Noah said.
"Win? Really?" Jared asked impressed.
"She's a rockstar by day and a sculptor by night," Noah joked.
"Damn, she's amazing, if the rockstar thing don't work out she's got something to fall back on," Matt said earning chuckles from the others.
