Chapter 19: The Week of...The Rehearsal Dinner
Noah followed Roldy and Jared down the hallway. They were heading to breakfast with the guys. He was so hungover. He hoped that there was still bacon for him.
"You ok back there?" Roldy asked.
"Not so loud," Noah said grabbing Roldy's hand and slowing him down to his pace. Roldy just chuckled.
"I agree, Ro, keep your voice down," Jared groaned.
They entered the conference room where the breakfast buffet was being held. Jake, Adam, Damien, and Cooper were all sitting together, with their heads on the table. Noah was glad to see he wasn't the only one who was hungover.
They had all gone pretty hard last night. He didn't regret it. They had had fun playing video games and hanging out. It had been like old times, just with a few extra people. By the end of the night, Noah had managed to get himself, Roldy, Matt, and Jared alone in one of the bedrooms. The others were too drunk to notice they had even left. The four of them had just hung out and talked and laughed. They hadn't had much time lately to just hang out. It had been great.
Roldy steered Noah and Jareds towards the food. They all quickly made their plates and took a seat with the guys.
"You guys are still alive," Roldy said as they joined them.
"Barely," Adam replied.
"Roldy," Matt said as he quickly entered the conference room, with Penelope right behind him. "We have a problem."
"What kind of problem," Roldy asked looking up at her.
"Tell him what you saw Pen," Matt said.
"Last night, your mom was at the hotel bar, with Kendall, James, Carlos, and Logan," Penelope said.
"What?" Roldy asked, "You didn't stop them?"
"What was I supposed to do?" Penelope asked her voice rising in a slight panic.
"Not so loud," Jake said from the other table.
"Sorry," Penelope turned to him and a small sympathetic smile.
"What happened? What was she doing? What was Kendall doing?" Roldy asked in a panic.
"I didn't stick around long enough to find out, but they were laughing so probably swapping stories," Penelope said.
"Great, she's like the biggest Big Time Rush fan girl. My life is over," Roldy sighed.
"Yeah, we are all doomed," Jared said.
"I'm sure our dads got her to dish everything about you guys," Adam said.
"I gotta go," Roldy said jumping up.
"Sit down," Noah said pulling Roldy back down. "Finish your breakfast first."
"It's too late, it's done already," Matt said.
Roldy groaned as he sunk back into his chair. Matt was right, it was too late. There was nothing he could do. He had let them go pick her up from the airport after all.
"Where's Kyle?" Jared asked looking around the room. Everyone else looked around confused.
Kyle and Miles were nowhere to be seen. Jared hadn't even seen him this morning when he woke up. He knew the two were always up to something, but it was too early for shenanigans, and he was too hungover to for this.
"Who knows, he and Miles are probably hiding somewhere, " Adam said.
The guys finished eating. Matt looked to Penelope who was still eating. She knew they had a busy day ahead of them and waved him off. She would hang with the others for a bit.
Matt caught up to the others in the lobby. They had all stopped walking just pit of sight of the front desk.
"What's-" Matt started. Then he saw her. Standing at the front desk, arguing with the desk clerk was someone Matt never thought he would ever see again.
It was Gabriella Cortez. She was a tall Latina girl, with dark wavy hair and cold dark eyes. She was everything Matt remembered. He felt a lump in his throat. This was not what he had expected at all. How had she found out about the wedding, much less about where they were.
"What is she doing here?" Matt asked finally. The guys all shared a look confused. "How did she find out where we were?"
"I don't know," Noah said, "I told my family not to tell anyone. They know better."
"Why is she even here? She knows none of us even like her," Jared said.
Matt turned on his heel and headed for the elevator. He needed to get away from this right now. He couldn't deal with this.
"Matty," Noah said taking off after him. The other two followed them.
—Happy Mistakes—
Miles sighed as he laid back on his bed. Kyle was sitting across the room with a guitar in his hands. He was strumming mindlessly. They had both woken up early and left the guys suite, not wanting to disturb them. Kyle has swiped the room key for the room next door. Jared has been paranoid about noise complaints, so he and Tim booked the other suites, which were gonna be groom party's suites.
Kyle was sure that none of the guys would be up early. He and Miles were probably the least hungover out of the group.
Kyle was currently listening to Miles complain about his lack of love life. Miles was having girl troubles again. He just didn't understand girls. He had tried dating again recently, only for it to end disastrously. Kyle was a little jealous of Miles, to be honest. Miles had it so simple. He was attached to anyone, he didn't have to worry about someone else's feelings. He was free to do what he wanted.
"Dude, do you think I'm ever gonna find love?" Miles asked.
"Someday, it doesn't happen when you're looking for it," Kyle replied.
"I mean seriously, what if Rion was it for me. I mean the only other relationships I've had have been made up or with a girl who only wants me because my dads are famous," Miles groaned. "I'm so pathetic."
"No you're not," Kyle said setting his guitar aside.
"Yes I am," Miles shot back.
"Stop, you need to move on. I hate to say this, but Rion is gone. She wouldn't want you moping around, you know that. I think you've been self-sabotaging because you don't think you deserve love," Kyle said. He stood up and walked over to Miles.
"Maybe, but like I loved her dude, like for real," Miles sighed, "I feel like I'm betraying her by liking someone else."
"You need to tell Leora how you really feel," Kyle said.
"I can't, she thinks of me as a brother. You weren't there, dude," Miles said.
"Then make her see you as boyfriend material," Kyle said laying down beside him.
"How?" Miles asked.
"It's different for everyone Miles," Kyle replied.
"I wish I had everything figured out like you," Miles sighed.
"I don't have it all figured out. I mean yeah, I love Jared, but there are times I wanna strangle him too," Kyle explained, "He's great and helps me when I need it, but he also drives me up the wall sometimes. Then again, I think I'm good at doing that too. As the wedding gets closer Matt keeps dropping hints that Jared wants to get married and have kids."
"You don't?" Miles asked lifting his head to look at Kyle.
"I don't know, I've never really wanted to get married. It's always seemed like a scam to me," Kyle said.
"But?" Miles asked.
"But, now I kind of see a future with Jared. That doesn't mean that I want to get married right away. I'm not even eighteen yet, I've got one more semester of school left," Kyle said quickly as he sat up.
Thinking about the future scared him a bit. He wasn't sure where Jared stood on the whole marriage thing. He hadn't mentioned it once. It was all Matt who was putting the thought in his head. How did Matt know what Jared wanted anyways? This had nothing to do with him. Kyle wasn't in a rush to have kids either, not after what had happened. He just wanted to focus on school, his life with Jared, and his music right now.
"When did things get so complicated?" Miles asked.
"Don't know, and I don't think it gets any easier," Kyle sighed.
"Come on, let's go get some breakfast," Miles said, checking the time. "I'm sure the guys are up by now, probably nursing hangovers because they aren't as resilient as us."
"Says the guys who puked twice this morning." Kyle snorted.
"Well if you hadn't shoved that tequila on me," Miles started.
"You make it too easy, you gotta get better at Call of Duty," Kyle laughed. The two exited the room and started for the elevator.
They had barely pressed the button when the doors opened and Matt stormed off the elevator followed by Jared, Noah, and Roldy. Kyle shared a look with Miles.
"I'm hungry," Miles whined.
"Then go," Kyle said turning and chasing after the guys. He needed to know what was wrong.
"Where have you been?" Jared asked as he caught up to the guys.
"Around, Miles was having another existential crisis," Kyle replied, "What's up with Matty?"
They all entered the suite together. Kyle looked around for an answer. Matt was definitely worked up over something.
"You remember how I told you about Gabby right," Jared said.
"The girl who tried to take Matt away from you guys," Kyle said slowly.
Jared had told Kyle a little about her. Her name had been brought up once, and Jared explained that she was one of Matt's ex-girlfriends. She had been controlling and possessive. According to Matt she was just an awful excuse for a human being.
"Yeah, she's here," Noah said slowly, looking to Matt. He was unsure of his reaction.
"I don't know why she's even here. I made it very clear that I didn't want to ever see her again," Matt snapped.
"She's just trying to get into your head, don't give her that power again," Roldy said shaking his head.
"I can't believe she's even here. Like what did she expect?" Matt asked angrily.
"Oh I'm sure one of our family members accidentally let it slip," Jared replied,
"Look I'll have my dad handle this. He will inform security we have a wedding crasher," Kyle said.
"You just wanna see Rafi again," Jared said, referring to Kendall's head of security and Inside Joke's official bodyguard.
"Did you warn Penelope?" Roldy asked.
"Shit, I forgot," Matt said panicked. He took off from the room.
-Happy Mistakes-
Kendall smiled as he watched James move about their hotel room. He was getting ready for the rehearsal dinner. Kendall's thoughts were on last night. After they had arrived at the hotel with Deanna, things had gotten interesting. Somehow the group had ended up at the hotel bar, swapping war stories about their kids and the guys letting Deanna live out her teenage dream of meeting Big Time Rush. As the drinks flowed, Kendall's lips got looser. He was an awful secret keeper when he was sober. It wasn't him who spilled the beans. Logan proved that he really did spend too much time with Kendall.
The guys were laughing so hard. Deanna was having the time of her life. The guys were sharing their tour secrets with her.
"Wow, " Deanna said, shaking her head.
" I know, these guys are crazy, " Logan said, "I don't see how I put up with them for all these years."
"You love us, stop kidding yourself there, Doc, " Kendall said slinging an arm over Logan's shoulders.
"So Deanna, is this everything you thought it would be?" James asked, laughing.
"Its something all right, " Deanna replied. "years ago I never would've even thought this possible, once the boys started working with you I knew it was only a matter of time."
"I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner, " Kendall said sitting up straighter. "from what I gather all you moms were big BTR fans, " Kendall said.
"I can't speak for Cindy, we didn't know her then, but Erin, Macy, and I went to several shows and even got matching tattoos, " Deanna replied.
"Tattoos?" Carlos asked.
"I knew you looked familiar," Logan gasped, pointing a finger at her. "You, a short little blonde girl and brunette."
"Oh my god!" Deanna said her cheeks turning pink.
"I'm right," Logan said laughing.
"What?" Carlos asked confused.
"New Mexico, three girls at the meet and greet, right?" Logan asked Deanna, who nodded her head. "They all had matching tattoos, tramp stamps."
"Yes, to be young and dumb," Deanna said his cheeks turning even redder.
"Oh my god yes, I remember that now," James said, "That was you?"
"Yeah, and Cindy too," Deanna said.
"And Jared's mom?" Kendall asked slowly.
Deanna nodded her head. She was still upset about what happened with Erin. All these years and she couldn't help one of her best friends.
"Sorry I didn't-" Logan started.
"It's ok," Deanna cut him off. "That was a long time ago. I think it was before the boys were even born. Which shows how old I am." she chuckled.
"You can't be older than this old man," James said nudging his husband.
"Is that a gray hair I see?" Kendall asked poking James back. James just glared at his husband. Deanna laughed at them.
They fell into chatter about Big Time Rush again, when Logan let it slip.
"Did you guys know Gustavo is trying to convince Kendall to get us all together for a tour?" Logan asked.
"Logan," Kendall said turning to the brunette wide-eyed. That was supposed to be their secret. Logan gaped as he realized he said it out loud.
"What?" James and Carlos asked simultaneously.
"Ever since we did that concert, he's been on me about a tour. I've told him no, that it was a one-time thing. He thinks it would be a great idea, something about the nostalgia factor," Kendall replied waving a hand.
"That's insane," Carlos said shaking his head.
"Agreed, one show is one thing, but a whole tour? We have families now," James said shaking his head.
"But you gotta admit that you miss it right," Kendall said.
"Maybe," James said.
"Oh my god, you wanna do it," Carlos said looking at Kendall.
"What? No," Kendall said quickly. He was lying. He wanted to do it so bad, but it wasn't possible. They had families. They had kids they had to take care of. They didn't have time, they all had real jobs now.
"Oh my god you do," James gasped.
"No, I mean yes I've thought about it, but we're all busy with our jobs and the kids," Kendall admitted.
"Hello? Earth to Kendall."
Kendall looked up as James as he waved a hand in his face. He gave him a sheepish smile. He stood up from his spot on the bed.
"Sorry, what were you saying," Kendall asked.
"I said let's go, I'm hungry," James said, "what's got you so spacey?"
"Nothing, just thinking about how much we got left to do today and tomorrow," Kendall said shaking his head.
—Happy Mistakes—
Noah dug through his suitcase looking for his suit for the rehearsal dinner. He knew he had packed it, he just wasn't sure where it was.
"Will you relax Noah."
Noah turned to face Roldy. He shot him a glare. Roldy put his hands up in surrender, with a chuckle.
"I have to find my suit, I need to iron it and make sure it looks nice," Noah said. He started throwing things from his suitcase.
"Noah, stop," Roldy said walking up to the smaller male. He grabbed his fiancé and turned him towards the closet where his suit was already hanging up. "I'm one step ahead of you."
"How did I get so lucky to have someone like you," Noah asked turning to face Roldy with a small smile.
"That's where you've got it mixed up, I'm lucky to have you," Roldy said looping his arms around Noah's neck. He pecked him softly on the lips.
"Can you believe that this time tomorrow we will be getting married," Noah asked.
"It can't get here quick enough," Roldy said.
"All we have to do is survive the rehearsal dinner," Noah sighed.
"Hey our families love each other," Roldy said. "My mom loves you more than she loves me. My dad is happy for us too, although he brought his new girlfriend so my mom might be a little off."
"Is their divorce final?" Noah asked.
"Not yet," Roldy said.
"They ended on good terms. He didn't start seeing her until after they filed for divorce. So hopefully they behave," Roldy said.
"Yeah and my mom and sisters are here, Tony should be arriving, soon and Joey will be here tomorrow..." Noah trailer off.
"Of your dad can't get past his dislike for my dad then it's his loss," Roldy said.
"He's always been against you and me being friends, is dating drove him nuts and us getting married threw him over the edge," Noah said slowly.
"Tonight and tomorrow are all about us, don't let this ruin our big day," Roldy said firmly.
"I know, I was just kind of hoping that by now he would have come around," Noah said.
"It's gonna be ok. Now let's get dressed and ready for dinner," Roldy said.
Noah nodded his head. They both got dressed and exited the bedroom to the suite. Matt, Jared, and Kyle were all sitting on the couch watching a video on TV. Miles was in the kitchen fiddling with his camera.
"Come on guys we have to be downstairs in like twenty minutes and Miles is the only one who's ready," Noah said.
"Hang on," Kyle said.
"Yeah we might have a problem," Matt said.
"What now?" Roldy asked.
"We may have been spotted and we might have a few wedding crashers," Jared replied.
"Yeah there's a group of girls in the lobby trying to figure out what rooms you guys are in and a whole gossip piece on how we are vacationing up north while we prepare for your wedding," Miles said.
A knock at the door caught their attention.
"You three, in your suits now," Roldy said as Miles jumped up to answer the door.
Kyle, Jared, and Matt jumped up and ran to get ready. Miles opened the door to reveal Rafi, the head of security for Rocque Records.
"Good news please?" Noah asked.
"We got most of the girls out of here, but Kendall wants me to escort you guys to the ballroom," Rafi said.
"Rafi!"
"Kyle, always a pleasure," Rafi said as the teen ran up to him.
"I knew you couldn't stay away," Kyle said smiling at the older man.
"From you never," Rafi replied sarcastically.
"I knew it," Kyle said grinning.
"Keep it in your pants there Kyle," Jared chuckled as he walked past the eager blonde.
"Don't listen to him, he's just jealous of our love," Kyle said throwing his arms around Rafi.
"Totally," Rafi said shoving the blonde off him gently, with a smile of his own. He may not like the flirting, but he was fond of Kyle.
"Don't fight it," Kyle said winking at the older man.
"Don't mind the horny teenager, he's not getting any so he's ready to jump the nearest living thing," Matt said as he emerged dressed in his suit.
"Totally Matt, wanna take me up on that offer?" Kyle said turning and running over to him. "Let's go," he winked at the stunned man.
"You brought this on yourself," Jared called from the kitchen. "The more attention you give him the worse he gets."
"Sorry Matthew, if anyone here isn't getting any its you, Jared and I are doing just fine," Kyle said smirking.
"Ok I love you guys, and this is fun, but we have to go," Noah said cutting off the next witty reply.
"Noah's right let's go," Roldy said, pointing to the door.
"Yeah, guys quit messing around. Let's go," Kyle said.
"You need to stop," Jared said laughing.
"You're being more obnoxious than Miles," Roldy said.
"Hey," Miles said.
"I'm offended for you dude," Kyle said quickly. "Let go."
"Wait, do I have something in my teeth?" Miles asked flashing Kyle a smile.
"What were you eating?" Kyle asked making a face. Miles hand flew to his mouth and he ran to the bathroom.
"Miles we don't have time-" Noah called.
"You guys go, I'll wait for him and make sure he doesn't get lost," Kyle said quickly.
"No camera tonight," Roldy said.
Kyle nodded his head. The guys took off with Rafi telling Kyle to hurry and head straight to the ballroom, no detours. Once everyone was gone Miles emerged from the bathroom, a serious look on his face.
"I got rid of them, what's up?" Kyle asked looking to his friend.
"You didn't stop, did you?" Miles asked.
"Stop what?" Kyle asked confused.
"Those pills. You told me you threw them out," Miles said glaring at the blonde.
"It's just Adderall." Kyle shrugged. "Everybody does it. It helps me focus and give me energy. It's not all the time, just when I need a pick me up."
"Dude-" Miles started.
"You don't understand Miles. I have to be perfect. I can't mess up," Kyle snapped. "You promised not to tell anyone. I'd rather you keep it that way. I'll stop after the wedding. I just have to make sure things go smooth for Noah and Roldy. I promise I'll let you watch me dump them and everything."
"Fine," Miles said brushing past the blonde.
Kyle stood there a moment longer. Miles didn't understand the pressure he was under. He couldn't mess up. He had to watch every step he took and calculate every move he made. People were watching him. He couldn't afford a mistake.
—Happy Mistakes—
Roldy smiled as he greeted more guests. He had just gotten to the dinner from the rehearsal with the officiant talking him and the guys through what would happen tomorrow. They had gone through all the paperwork and now all they had to do was survive this dinner party and get married tomorrow.
"Wow there are a lot of people here," Noah said quietly to him while smiling at their guests as they passed by.
"I know a lot more people arrived earlier than I thought," Roldy said.
"Well at least it's going well," Noah said.
"Oh my god Ro, your dad brought his girlfriend, and she's young," Jared said as he walked up to the two.
"Relax, my mom knows and will behave. She said they ended on good terms," Roldy said.
"Well we are about to find out," Jared said pointing across the room as Harry and Deanna bumped into one another.
"I'm gonna go check this out," Roldy said. He wanted to meet his dad's girlfriend. Noah followed him.
Roldy approaches the two as Deanna was introduced to Sashi, his dad's girlfriend. The two women smiled and hugged. She was definitely on the younger side. Roldy quickly made himself known.
"Mom, dad," Roldy said getting their attention.
"Ro," Harry greeted his son with a smile and hug.
"Hey dad," Roldy said smiling.
Introductions were made. Roldy Met Sashi, Harry's girlfriend. She was from India and worked for the same company Harry did, just in a different department. She seemed really nice and to be getting along great with Deanna. It was better than Roldy could have hoped for.
Soon everyone was seated at a table. The chatter has quieted down a bit. Noah and Roldy were sitting with the wedding party chatting. Their parents with sitting a table over with Kendall, James, Carlos, and Logan. Everyone seemed to be getting along fine.
The room fell quiet. Roldy looked around and saw that Deanna and Harry has stood up with their wine glasses. Everyone was looking at them. Roldy was a little worried, but they had been civil before.
"Harry and I would like to thank you all for coming tonight," Deanna started with a smile. "It means so much to us and the boys that you could all make it."
"I am so happy to see my son has found someone who can make him so happy. Noah, you have always been like a second son to us and this only make is official now," Harry said with a smile.
"To Noah and Roldy," Deanna said lifting her glass.
Everyone toasted to the happy couple. Roldy and Noah jumped up and gave Deanna and Harry a hug smiling as they did so.
It wasn't long before the food was served. Everyone was deep in conversation with their tablemates. Roldy was happy that everything was going off without a hitch. Nothing was going to stop him from getting married tomorrow.
—Happy Mistakes—
Kyle laughed as he followed Jared down the hall to the suite he was sharing with Jared, Roldy, and Miles since they were all Roldy's groomsmen. The two had taken off after dinner. Roldy and Noah were still talking with guests and making sure everyone was happy. Miles was trying to impress Leora, who was oblivious to his advance. They had also managed to slip past Rafi, who was watching the guys like a hawk. He was making sure no crashers got through the door. The two were alone for the time being.
Jared fumbled with the key as Kyle pressed himself into the older male from behind. His hands danced up his sides, trying to distract him. Kyle laughed again as Jared cursed under his breath and shoved him away. Kyle just moved in closer, his breath tickling his neck as he spoke.
"What's the matter Jer? Am I distracting you?" Kyle whispered huskily.
"Very much so," Jared replied. He finally managed to swipe the key correctly.
The pair stumbled into the room. Kyle quickly led Jared towards the bedroom. Neither of them could keep their hands to themselves. All Kyle could focus on was Jared's hands. They were everywhere.
Kyle paused as he heard a thud. Jared looked at him confused.
"Did you hear that?" Kyle asked, putting a hand up.
"Hear what?" Jared asked, confused.
Kyle looked around the room. He knew he wasn't going crazy. He had heard something. There wasn't supposed to be anybody in this room.
"You're losing it, " Jared said. He took a step closer to the blonde again. "Now come on, we've only got a short amount of time before the others get bored and come back."
"I heard something, " Kyle mumbled, as Jared started kissing him once more.
Another thud came from across the room, followed by a giggle.
"Ok, I heard that, " Jared said stopping what he was doing.
Kyle looked to the wardrobe across the room. It was cracked ever so slightly. "I'm calling Rafi; I think we have some intruders, " he said, pulling his phone out.
Suddenly two teenage girls burst from the wardrobe in a panic. Jared looked surprised and stepped in-between them and Kyle. One was a tall ginger girl and the other a short Latino girl.
"Wait, " the ginger girl said, putting her hands up.
Kyle quickly called Rafi as Jared floundered like a fish. He didn't know what to do in this situation. He quickly started in on the girls about the lack of privacy and about breaking so many laws right now. It didn't take long for Rafi to answer his phone, annoyed that Kyle had managed to escape him.
"Yeah, sorry about that Rafi, but we have a bigger problem, " Kyle said slowly as he walked away from the girls and Jared.
"What's wrong? You didn't go outside did you," Rafi asked, realizing the seriousness of Kyle's voice.
"I'm in Ro's suite and we have some intruders. I'm betting there are some in Noah's suite," Kyle said looking at the girls. The Latino girl meekly nodded her head. "I would do a sweep of the whole floor. We've got two here."
"Stay put, and stay safe. I'm gonna get your dad, and my team. We will do a sweep of the whole floor," Rafi said.
"Thanks, Rafi," Kyle said nodding his head. He hung up and looked over to Jared. "Rafi is on his way."
The four sat in awkward silence. It wasn't long before there was a knock at the door. Kyle jumped and answered it. Jared followed him. Kendall was at the door, with a worried James right behind him.
"What is going on," Kendall asked trying to step into the room.
"We've got some wedding crashers," Jared said.
"Where's Rafi," Kyle asked.
"On his way, he's getting his team to come sweep the whole floor," Kendall said pushing past Kyle. He asked the girls to leave the room with him. They quickly jumped up and followed him out of the room.
James kept Kyle in the room for the moment. "Are you ok?"
"I think so, I just feel so violated," Kyle said as he leaned against the counter in the room. Jared moved to stand beside him.
"What happened?" James asked.
"We came into the room. We were uh, talking, and I heard some noise and found them in the wardrobe over there, " Kyle said.
"Talking?" James asked.
"Mostly, " Kyle replied. James just shook his head. He didn't want to hear anymore.
"Did they take any pictures or video?" James asked.
Kyle's eyes went wide as he realized he hadn't thought about that. What id they had been recording? Taking pictures? Or worse live streaming. What had their plan even been?
Kyle bolted from the room. James and Jared followed him. Kendall and Rafi were talking to the girls and the hotel manager. The rest of the security team was waiting for instructions. Kyle quickly walked up to the girls but saw Kendall had their phones and was yelling at the manager.
"How did these girls get a master key? This is unacceptable," Kendall said.
"I am so sorry, I don't know how this happened. I will find out who gave these girls the key and deal with this. I am so sorry Mr. Knight," the manager said. He was a short and stout balding man.
"It's a total invasion of privacy," Kyle said stepping up. "I don't know if I feel safe."
"Don't worry kid, I'll take care of this," Rafi said ruffling Kyle's hair. Kyle swatted at his hand. "My team I will do a sweep of all the rooms Kendall, of any guests who don't feel safe," he assured Kendall. He turned to Kyle and held his hand out for a room Key. "I will personally search through the Gooms suites."
The manager stopped Kyle, "here take my key, it has all access, all you need to know is the room numbers."
Kendall quickly rattled off several room numbers and told Rafi to send some guys downstairs to get the rest of the group's room numbers from the front desk. The manager gave the front desk a call and told them to participate with the security team.
"I want something done about this," Kendall said turning to the manager still angry.
"I couldn't agree more," the hotel manager said, "I can offer my security team as well and when I find out who gave these girls a key they will be fired."
"No one gave me a key," the Latina girl said putting her hand up. "I stole them."
"Them?" Kendall asked.
"I gave some to my other friends too, they went to the other room," she said hanging her head. "I'm sorry, we only wanted to meet the guys, we didn't mean for this to happen."
"What did you expect would happen, that we would find you in the room and what?" Kyle asked, "I feel so violated like I have no privacy anywhere." Jared stepped up to him, putting an arm around his shoulders. Kyle leaned into his touch.
"I'm sorry, we didn't think-" the other girl started.
Suddenly the door to the stairwell burst open. Miles was the first one through, followed by, Noah, Roldy, and Matt, followed by one of the guys from Rafi's security team. He did not look happy.
"You know Rafi, you might want to train your guys a little better, it was so easy for me to slip past them," Miles said as he walked down the hallway.
"Not now Miles," James said.
"Sorry, I make jokes when I'm uncomfortable," Miles said as he walked over to Kyle. "What happened?"
"We had some intruders, they were there before we even arrived," Kyle said gesturing to the two girls. "There are more, probably in Noah and Matt's room too."
"I am handling it," Rafi said, "like I just told the others I will personally search your rooms, along with Kendall and James' rooms, with Carlos and Logan too. If there are any guests who are nervous too, just let us know," Rafi said.
"I'm sure Winnie and Tim would want their room searched," Roldy said.
"I'll call Tim and ask," Jared said whipping his phone out.
Rafi walked away over to his team. Kendall and the manager headed down to his office with the girls. James hung back with Rafi and his team to stay in the loop of what was going on.
Kyle moved away from the group. Suddenly everything felt like it was crashing in on him. His panic was starting to set in. He just needed a little space. He didn't know what was going on. He felt like he was suffocating.
"You ok?"
Kyle looked up as Miles walked over to him. The other four were busy talking, they hadn't noticed Kyle leave. Miles did, he always knew when something was up. Kyle looked up at him, unable to find the words. He just slid until he was sitting on the floor. Miles sat down beside him. He held his hand out to Kyle. Kyle took it and leaned over so his head was resting on Miles' shoulder.
"Man I should've been there, I would've laid the smackdown on them," Miles said.
"They were teenage girls Miles," Kyle replied meekly. He still felt out of sorts.
"So what, they invaded our room and who knows, they could have been violent. I'm not afraid to hit a girl if she deserves it," Miles said.
"Oh knock it off," Kyle said shaking his head.
The two sat there in silence as they watched Rafi head into their suite. It was then that Jared noticed Kyle was gone. He looked around panicked until he spotted the two on the floor. He walked over to them.
"Everything alright," Jared asked.
"Yeah, just waiting," Kyle replied.
Jared gave him a skeptical look, but didn't say anything. He knew Kyle didn't want to speak.
It wasn't long before Rafi returned. He gave the guys the all-clear. He told Noah and Matt to go with the others for a bit. He was sure that there was someone in their room. They nodded and followed Roldy into the room. Kyle, Miles, and Jared followed suit. Rafi stopped Kyle. Kyle told Jared to go, Miles ushered him along.
"Are you sure you're ok?" Rafi asked softly.
"I don't know, I guess I'm just a little freaked out," Kyle admitted looking down at the ground. He hated this feeling. "I know I act all cool and collected, but stuff like this gets to me. I mean what's to stop it from happening again?"
"I'm gonna stop it from happening again, I had too many guys downstairs when I should've had more up here. It's my fault," Rafi said.
"It's not your fault, you can't control what some crazy fans do," Kyle said.
"I know, but it happened on my watch, I won't let it happen again. You have my word Kyle, I will keep you and the guys safe," Rafi said.
"Thanks, Rafi," Kyle said, "I don't know what to do right now. Like I know we have fans who love our music and want to meet us, but this feels a bit extreme."
"It was extreme, and sometimes these things happen. I will do my best for the next couple of days to make sure nothing else happens and keep you guys all safe," Rafi promised, "now get in there and relax. I'm heading over to Noah's suite; I'll be back when it's all clear."
Kyle nodded his head. He entered the room where the guys were all sitting around quietly. Jared jumped up once Kyle entered. He was on him pretty quick.
"I'm fine, " Kyle assured him.
"Cause you didn't just have a panic attack, " Jared replied.
"It was only a small one, " Kyle shrugged.
He walked over to the couch and sat down beside Miles. Jared joined him, grabbing his hand reassuringly. No one said a word. They didn't know what to say. They were all a little in shock over the whole situation.
Eventually, Kendall and James returned. The police had been involved and wanted to talk to Kyle and Jared. They needed statements and wanted to know if charges were being pressed. The guys collectively decided not to press charges, as they figured the girls had learned their lesson.
After everything was said and done, the guys all headed back to their rooms. Noah and Roldy shared an adorable goodbye kiss, as they wouldn't see each other until the wedding. Kyle and Jared entered their room of the suite as Roldy entered his, and Miles claimed the couch bed.
As Jared was settling in, Kyle couldn't help but think about the night's events. His mind would stop racing. He couldn't calm down. He was too anxious to sleep.
"Lay with me," Jared said sitting up next to the blonde. He wrapped his arms around him.
"Sorry," Kyle mumbled.
He allowed Jared to pull him back until they were laying down. Jared rested Kyle's head on his chest, right over his heart. Kyle smiled as he listened to his heartbeat. It was very calming.
"Just relax Kyle," Jared said softly. He started stroking his back soothingly. It wasn't long before Jared drifted off to sleep.
Kyle couldn't sleep, no matter what he did. Eventually, he untangled himself from Jared. He didn't even seem to notice the movement. Jared was in a deep sleep, which was good. Kyle crawled out of bed and slipped on his pajama pants. He walked out to the living room, where Miles was still sitting up.
"You can't sleep either?" Miles asked. Kyle shook his head. He walked over to the couch. Miles made room for him. "I should've been with you."
"We snuck away Miles," Kyle replied as he leaned over on his best friend. "Like I said before, what could you have done?"
"I don't know, but I could've been there for you," Miles said.
"It's ok Miles, I'm fine, I just...this is the part of fame I didn't want. This is why I gave up modeling, but somehow I ended up as a musician with singles in the hot 100," Kyle sighed.
"I know, life is funny like that," Miles chuckled, "never thought I'd have famous dads."
"When did things get some complicated?" Kyle asked again. Miles only shrugged. The two sat there in silence. They didn't need to talk. Kyle just needed to know that Miles was there. He knew MIles cared, they were always there for each other, no matter what.
"We're gonna flush those pills after the wedding right?" Miles asked.
"Yes," Kyle said nodding his head.
