Chapter 43: See that Line? I Never Should Have Crossed it
Kyle tossed his headphones down in frustration. He was trying so hard to get this new song done, but it sounded like trash. Or so he kept telling himself. He wasn't supposed to do the whole love song thing. Love songs were cheesy and stupid. Everyone did that. Kyle wasn't like that, but lately everything he wrote was a love song. Everything that came out was cheesy, ooey gooey, lovey dovey crap.
He heard the door open behind him. He glanced over his shoulder as Rafi entered the room. He gave a nod and turned back to the sound board.
"Hey, kid," Rafi greeted him.
"Hey, Rafi, it's nice to see you're always eager to see me," Kyle said with a confident smirk, turning his A-game on. He had to fake it, otherwise Rafi would know.
"Why? There's no one even around to laugh," Rafi said as his face went red.
"I'm here and I'm laughing," Kyle chuckled. "So did you guys ever find out who trashed that studio, then?" he asked casually.
"Nah, the cameras were acting wonky that day," Rafi said.
"Really?" Kyle asked, arching a brow at the older man.
"Yeah, we were doing some maintenance that day. A few of the cameras stopped working for a bit," Rafi said, taking a seat on the couch.
"I think the cameras caught everything, didn't they?" Kyle asked, standing up. He moved to sit next to Rafi.
"Oh yeah, but somehow the footage went missing," Rafi said.
"Thanks, sorry," Kyle said, looking down at his feet.
"Hey, everyone has a bad day, kid," Rafi said, patting his shoulder.
"I just…things aren't going how I thought they would," Kyle said.
"So, what happened with you and Miles? You were the only two to leave the studio that day, and I haven't seen him since," Rafi said.
"It's complicated," Kyle said.
"Are the rumors true, then?" Rafi asked.
"It wasn't supposed to get this far," Kyle said, fighting back tears.
"What?" Rafi asked.
"It was a joke. I was messing around and kissed him on New Year's because he was complaining about being single. It was just a joke," Kyle said, his tears threatening to spill.
"Why'd you keep it going?" Rafi asked.
"Because it wasn't really cheating at first, or so I convinced myself. I was just helping Miles figure out his identity, and then it got serious real fast. Suddenly I wanted to spend more time with Miles than with Jared. We started fooling around more and more. Next thing I knew, I was falling, and falling hard. I just…I never wanted this to happen. I don't want to hurt either of them," Kyle said.
"Well, it's a little too late for that," Rafi said. "Trust me, as someone going through a divorce, honesty is the best policy."
"Divorce?" Kyle asked.
"Yeah, she's been sleeping with her boss," Rafi sighed.
"That sucks," Kyle said.
"Yeah, we were falling apart anyways," Rafi said. "But back to you," he said, bumping Kyle gently.
"I have to tell Jared, I know," Kyle said.
"And Miles," Rafi said.
"I already did that, and he wants nothing to do with me. He's taking Leora to prom this weekend," Kyle said.
"What?" Rafi said.
"They've been kind of dating for a couple months now. I thought if I pushed him at Leora, it would make these feelings go away. Instead, all it did was annoy me and make me want to smack her," Kyle said.
"Oh, you sure have made a mess of things," Rafi said.
"Yeah, but he's better off with Leora. She's the stable one. Me? I'm a hot mess and I'm flailing, hoping someone can catch me, and the walls are slowly caving in and nothing helps. Nothing stops the constant panic and anxiety, except for Jared and Miles. They make me feel at home in my own skin," Kyle said looking down at his hands. He couldn't look at Rafi.
"You love them both?" Rafi asked.
"Yeah," Kyle said.
"You gotta be honest, tell them the truth," Rafi said.
"But I'm scared," Kyle said. He felt his heart pounding in his ears. He knew he had to be honest with them both, but that didn't mean he had to like it.
"It's ok to be scared, and you might lose one, if not both, but you need to be honest," Rafi said.
"Yeah, I guess," Kyle said.
They sat there in silence for a moment. Kyle was trying to calm his racing mind. There was so much going on. Rafi was right, too. He needed to talk to both Miles and Jared. He needed to figure this all out.
He wasn't sure who moved first, but suddenly they were kissing. He was kissing Rafi. He was kissing Rafi after admitting to being in love with both Jared and Miles. Why was he doing this?
"I am so sorry," Kyle said, jumping up in a panic.
"Slow down, kid," Rafi said, standing up as well. "It's ok, you're just emotional right now. I'm not gonna hold it against you this time."
"I didn't mean to do that," Kyle said, "I'm sorry, I just…I don't know what came over me."
"Hey, relax, it's ok, I get it. You're emotional and I was a listening ear, but that's ok," Rafi said. "I'm going through a divorce and I'm not looking for anything with anyone right now. Besides, you've got two other people you have to figure out as well."
"I know, I know," Kyle said, backing up, away from Rafi. "Why is my brain like this?! Why?! Please don't tell anybody about this."
"Your secrets are safe with me, kid," Rafi said, putting an emphasis on the word "kid."
"Right, I gotta get going," Kyle said. He turned and gathered his things from the soundboard. He took off, leaving Rafi behind.

Leora walked up to Miles and Lucas in the library. She sat down at the table with them.
"So, they just kicked you out like that?" Leora asked, turning to Lucas.
"Not them, just him," Lucas said. "I told mom I wasn't coming home until he apologized, and Logan went to get my stuff for me last night, which I was told was the best idea 'cause Carlos is emotional and would make a scene."
"He would," Leora said. "Logan's a doctor and has to be polite to jerks all day, so he's got a good poker face, unlike Carlos, who is very emotional, especially with family," she said.
"Yeah, you should have seen him when we found out Sandra wasn't my mom. He went ballistic on her when she tried to come back into my life. If dad hadn't been there, I'm sure cops would have been called," Miles said, "on her 'cause she's crazy and a crackhead."
"Right, and I'm learning that," Lucas laughed. "Layla is just like that too. She canceled on Millie last night to help cheer me up."
"She ditched Millie?" Leora said.
"Yeah, she did."
Millie slid into a seat next to Leora. Leora looked over at Layla, and Erika walked up to them as well.
"I'm mad at her, but I understand. Are you ok?" Millie asked Lucas.
"I'm fine. I'm sure mom will talk to him. She's been coming around to the idea of Artie and I dating," Lucas said, "but he owes me an apology and I'm not gonna accept anything less."
"And you shouldn't. He's being ridiculous," Miles said. "Standing up for yourself is important."
"That's what you did with Kyle?" Layla asked, taking a seat next to Miles.
"Yeah, I stood my ground and he didn't like it, and this time I'm not going to apologize for it," Miles said.
"Good, don't. Kyle's an idiot and needs to realize he can't always have his way," Leora said.
"But, Miles isn't always so innocent," Lucas said, looking at his brother.
"No, I am at fault here too, but he's got to apologize, 'cause I already have, and he refuses to acknowledge his fault," Miles said, jumping up.
"Where are you going?" Layla asked.
"Bathroom. I'll be back," Miles said. He booked it out of the library.
"He's not coming back," Lucas said as he watched him leave.
"Nope. Those two are being idiots," Leora said, shaking her head.

Kendall smiled as he watched James exit his manager's office building. James had been having a stressful week and been meeting with Marty a lot to talk contract negotiations. He had been signed on for two seasons of his show, but he wanted to go back. However, the offer they were giving him was garbage and he was fighting for more.
James was talking animatedly with Marty and hadn't noticed him yet. Kendall smiled when he saw Marty notice him. Marty changed the direction they were walking and James just went with him, pulling his phone out.
"I'm serious, Marty. I don't want to piss them off, but I'm not taking less than what they paid me last season. That's crap," James ranted as he typed on his phone.
"I know, I'm reworking the contract," Marty chuckled. "So what do you want for lunch?"
Kendall pulled his phone out as it buzzed. He looked down at a text from James about not being able to make lunch. He had work to do.
"I don't care," James said, "whatever."
"I thought you were too busy for lunch."
James' head snapped up from his phone. His eyes went wide as he saw Kendall.
"It's a working lunch," James said.
"Work can wait," Marty laughed. "Take him and do whatever it is you do to get him to relax." He looked at Kendall.
"You heard the man," Kendall said, offering his arm to James. James smiled as he took his arm.
"Take as long as you need too. Don't worry, James. I'll get this sorted and taken care of," Marty said as he turned and walked away.
"So, you're a little wound up?" Kendall asked.
"I'm fine. Marty's just…we are both stressed," James sighed.
"How about I take you home and do that thing I do to make you less stressed?" Kendall said.
"How about you feed me first?" James asked.
"Yeah, I've got food already. We can go eat and I can help you relax a little." Kendall chuckled. He led James to his car.
The ride to the condo was rather silent. Kendall kept a hand on James's knee the entire way. He could tell he had his work cut out for him. James was already texting Marty by the time they reached the condo.
Once he parked the car, he took James' phone away. James turned to him with a glare that softened.
"Sorry," James said.
"Inside," Kendall said softly as he pocketed his phone anyways.
James did as he was told. Kendall followed him into the kitchen, where he had set up their lunch. James smiled as he saw the table set.
"You really did have all this planned," James said in awe.
"Oh yeah, I even told Marcie to take the kids to the zoo or park or whatever. I gave her my card and told her to take the afternoon and have fun," Kendall said, leading James over to the table. He pushed him down into a chair.
Kendall ran to the oven and pulled out some food. He returned to the table and served James his lunch. They chatted as they ate, with Kendall avoiding any work-related talk.
Once they finished, Kendall cleared the table and led James up to their room. He made him strip down to his boxers and get on the bed. James did as he instructed.
Kendall grabbed the bottle of massage oil he had bought and climbed onto the bed. He settled himself on James's thighs. He poured some oil into his hands and got to work. He could feel the knots in James' back.
"Why am I smelling cinnamon?" James asked.
"Because they were out of the vanilla stuff you like, so I grabbed the cinnabon scent," Kendall replied, giving James' side a gentle pinch. "Don't complain, I'm doing all the work here."
"Sorry, your highness," James snorted.
"Watch the sass, I'll stop," Kendall threatened.
"No, it feels so good. I'll behave," James promised.
Kendall ran his hands down James's back. He felt another knot lower. He started to press and rub at it, earning a small groan from James. He continued to work out his kinks. James hummed contently.
Kendall slid off the brunette. He leaned over and pressed a kiss to his shoulder. "Hey, stay here and relax. I'll be back."
"Where are you going?" James asked.
"Just give me a few minutes, you relax," Kendall said.
Kendall gave him another kiss to the cheek. He climbed off the bed. He ran to the bathroom. He started to fill the tub, making a mental note of trying to convince James to get a jacuzzi tub for their house while the remodel was still underway. He then started to light the candles he had placed earlier. Once everything was set, the bathroom was smelling of vanilla, James' favorite scent.
He ran back to the bedroom, where James was on his phone. He looked up at Kendall and held up a finger.
"Marty, I'm not gonna make it back. I trust you," James said. "Yes, I'm fine." His cheeks went red. "Stop, I'm hanging up now. I'll send Kendall your regards."
James hung up and turned to the blond. He stood and walked over to him. Kendal grinned and grabbed his hand. He led him to the bathroom.
"Whoa," James said with a smile.
"I was able to get the vanilla candles you like," Kendall said.
"I can tell," James said, stepping into the bathroom.
"Come on, take these off and get in the tub," Kendall said, tugging at the waistband of James' underwear.
"Will you be joining me?" James asked as he pushed them down his hips.
"Of course," Kendall replied as he started undressing. "I would never leave you alone, especially when you're naked." James laughed as he climbed into the tub. Kendall quickly joined him.
Kendall sat down, pulling James into his lap. James complied and leaned against him. Kendall wrapped his arms around him.
"I already told Kelly not to expect me back this afternoon either," Kendall said.
"Good, you're not going anywhere," James said, snuggling into the blond.
Kendall's hands started to move about James's body in the familiar dance they knew so well, hitting every sensitive spot. James sighed as he rested his head back on Kendall's shoulder. Kendall brought his lips to James' shoulder, placing an open-mouthed kiss there.
Kendall's hands moved lower down his husband's body. James leaned into his touch. His hands slid down his hips and gripped them right. James squirmed in his hold. Kendall leaned in and nipped at his ear.
"Tell me, Jamie," Kendall said huskily, "are you relaxed yet?"
"Getting there," James said, grabbing one of the blond's hands and bringing it down to his dick.
"I don't think this relaxed," Kendall said, gripping him. He slowly started to move his hand up and down. "I think I can take care of this problem."
"Yesss," James sighed, leaning into the blond even more.
Kendall peppered kisses down his neck and shoulder and back up. James was turning to goo in his hands.

Carlos made his way into the house. He was currently on the phone with Mary King. She was calling to check in on Lucas.
"Mary, he's ok, don't worry," Carlos said as he set his keys in the dish by the door.
"I know, I just…I'm so sorry for all this. Gerald's just…he's worried about Lucas. He's always babied him and wants to protect him from the world," Mary sighed.
"I know, and maybe a little time apart would do them both some good," Carlos said.
"I can't believe he did this," Mary sighed.
"Gerald's just looking out for Lucas. I get that, but he let his anger get the better of him. They both did," Carlos said as he made his way to the kitchen. He started to pull food from the fridge.
"Yeah, if there is one thing Lucas inherited from Gerald, it's his temper, that's for sure," Mary said.
"Yeah, I know how that can be. Miles is like a mini Logan at times. It's so strange, since we've only really known he's a son for a few years. But, Artie really is a good kid. You two would love him if you gave him a chance," Carlos said.
"Really?" Mary asked.
"Yeah, he's a great kid, and he makes Lucas happy. Shouldn't that be more important than anything else?" Carlos asked.
"Yeah, his happiness matters most. I just…I'm scared that things might get too much for him," she said.
"Don't worry, he's got Miles, and Kyle and Leora. He's also got a good head on his shoulders. His mom taught him how to be level-headed," Carlos said.
He heard the front door open and several voices called out.
"Gotta go. I'll talk to you later, ok? Just give him some time," Carlos said.
"I will, and thanks for listening, Carlos," Mary said.
"No problem," Carlos said, giving her a quick goodbye. He set his phone down as Miles, Lucas, and Leora entered the kitchen.
"Papi, we're home. School was lame," Miles said, snatching an apple from the counter.
"It wasn't that bad," Lucas said.
"Anyways, we are gonna hang, out and Layla went with Millie and Erika to the mall," Miles said, turning and shooing the other two out of the kitchen to the living room.
Carlos smiled as he returned his attention to making dinner. Once everything was in the oven, Logan entered the kitchen. He made his way over to the Latino with a smile. He gave him a deep welcome home kiss.
"Careful, there is a room full of teenagers nearby," Carlos said.
"Sorry, but I've got some great news," Logan said.
"Oh really?" Carlos asked.
"Guess who just got a promotion," Logan said.
"What?" Carlos asked.
"Yeah, I am Marcus' right hand man, Lonny got an offer to head a research team in New York, and Marcus gave him a rave review. He couldn't pass this opportunity up," Logan said.
"That's amazing," Carlos said, pulling Logan into a hug. He kissed him again.
"I know. This is great. This is everything I have been working for," Logan said.

Kyle made his way into the condo. He had skipped the studio today. He didn't feel like working on his music or facing the guys. They were all skating around him, trying not to set him off, but also curious about his fall out with Miles. He didn't want to talk about it. He needed days off too every once in a while.
Tossing his jacket into the closet, he made his way towards the stairs. Kendall exited the living room much to his surprise. Kyle paused, arching a brow at him.
"Why aren't you at the studio?" Kendall asked.
"Why aren't you?" Kyle asked back.
"That's fair, but I just figured you'd want to be working on your new music," Kendall said.
"Nah, I didn't feel like it today," Kyle shrugged.
"Wanna talk about it?" Kendall asked, leaning against the wall.
"Not really," Kyle said as he turned to walk up the stairs.
"Kyle," Kendall said. He stopped again and turned to look at him.
"What? I'm tired, dad. I just want a day off," Kyle sighed.
"You know you can talk to us," Kendall said.
"Yeah, I know. I just have a lot of homework to do," Kyle lied.
He turned and ran up the stairs. He slipped into his and Leora's room. He shut the door and walked over to his cot sitting down with a sigh. He dropped his backpack at his feet.
He wasn't sure where his energy was. It was just zapped today. To top it all off, his head was buzzing. He couldn't get it to go away. He knew in the back of his mind, there was one way to get this headache gone and give him energy.
He looked down at his backpack. The pills Jesse had given him were in there. He had fallen right back into it so easily. It gave him endless energy to get through the day or two. Sleep was overrated anyways.
With a sigh he gave in. He pulled the bottle out. He popped two pills. He stashed the bottle quickly. He stood and walked over to the desk he had to share with Leora. He started on his homework after texting Jared.
He hadn't seen him in a few days, aside from being at the studio. Even then it was all business. They barely had time to talk anymore. It was crunch time. Tour was getting closer and closer. Everything was getting finalized and ready to go. Kyle was helping Kendall with all the behind the scenes stuff. It was exhausting work but it had to get done.
Everything was exhausting lately. It took all his energy just to force a smile and pretend that everything was fine. When in reality he was falling apart at the seams. He was being pushed and pulled in every different direction. Someone always wanted something from him. No one even noticed how tired he was. He never let them see.

Jared sighed as he fell down onto the orange couch in 2J. Noah was currently sitting at the other end of the couch, watching a cooking video. Jared had invited himself over, looking for Roldy, only to find out that he was out with his dad, who was in town for the weekend.
"So why aren't you out with Ro?" Jared asked.
"I wasn't feeling too good earlier," Noah said with a shrug. "I didn't want to risk getting anyone sick, so I stayed home. Then you bust in looking for Ro and refused to leave"
"Well, I need his advice on something," Jared replied.
"What's up? Maybe I can help?" Noah asked, scooting closer.
"No, get away from me, sicky," Jared laughed, shoving him away.
"I'm feeling better. It was probably something I ate. I knew that sushi was suspicious," Noah said. "Now, what's so important you had to barge in here unannounced?"
"I saw something the other day, and I don't know what to do," Jared said slowly.
"What?" Noah asked curiously.
Jared sighed as he looked down at his lap. He was torn. He really wanted to talk to Roldy about this. He hadn't told anyone yet about what he saw with Kyle. He had been avoiding the blond the last few days as well. That had been easy, since Kendall had basically grounded him and was keeping him home. Jared was just trying to figure out what he had seen that day, and if the rumors were true.
"Jer?" Noah said, bringing him back to reality.
Jared looked up at the brunet. He had finally paused his show. He was giving Jared his full attention.
"Ok, let me ask you a question," Jared said slowly.
"Go ahead, I'm all ears," Noah said.
"What would you do if you saw Roldy kissing someone else?" Jared asked.
"Ro would never do that," Noah said quickly.
"But what if he did, what would you do?" Jared asked.
"Is this about the rumors going around about Kyle?" Noah asked.
"Kind of," Jared said, looking away again.
"Kyle would never do that. He adores you, and he gave up most of his senior year to help you with your sisters. If that's not love, I don't know what is," Noah said.
"But he cheated with me," Jared said slowly.
"So what? He made a mistake, he's only human," Noah said.
"And I saw him kiss Rafi the other day," Jared said.
"What? Rafi? Are you sure?" Noah asked, his jaw dropping in shock.
"No, I'm lying and trying to start drama for no reason. This is why I wanted to talk to Roldy," Jared said.
"Sorry, I am just shocked, is all. Rafi is married and about to have a kid. He would never do anything to mess that up," Noah said.
"Actually, he's going through a diviorce and the kid isn't his," Jared said.
"What?" Noah asked.
"Can we get back to the important part where I saw him and Kyle kissing?" Jared asked.
"What did Kyle say?" Noah asked.
"I haven't actually talked to him yet," Jared admitted. "This was like on Tuesday, when he got sent home from school, and I just…I didn't know what to think at first. I thought my mind was playing tricks on me. I walked away and I've been avoiding it ever since."
"Jared, that's not healthy. You need to talk to Kyle and sort this out," Noah said.
"But I've barely got a hold on him, I don't want to lose him," Jared said, "I don't know what truth those rumors hold anymore. I don't think I'm going to like his answers."
"He would never sneak off with Miles. They're best friends, like Kendall and Logan. They are like carbon copies of their dads. Go talk to him, you'll see," Noah said.
"Kyle and Miles have always been freakishly close, and you really can't have one without the other. I know if there was anyone who could take Kyle away from me, it would be Miles," Jared replied.
"Knock it off," Noah said, shaking his head. "Kyle and Miles are best friends."
"Who are fighting like a couple who just broke up," Jared said.
Roldy entered the apartment, calling out for Noah, but paused when he saw Jared.
"Oh, hey, Jer," Roldy greeted him. "Feeling any better now?" he asked as he crossed the room.
"Yeah, I think it was something I ate," Noah said.
"So, gonna tell me why you've suddenly become a recluse this last week?" Roldy asked Jared as he sat down beside him.
"Recluse?" Jared asked.
"Yes, the only time I've seen you this week was at the studio, and you've been acting a bit strange," Roldy said.
"Strange?" Jared asked. He looked to Noah, who shrugged.
"What's wrong?" Roldy asked.
"What would you do if you saw Noah kissing someone else?" Jared asked.
"So it's true? He was messing around with Miles?" Roldy asked.
"Not sure about that one, but I saw him kissing Rafi the other day," Jared said.
"What? That punk. Do you need me to go beat Rafi up? Or I could ask Darnell. He'd do anything for me," Roldy said.
"No," Noah said with a frown.
Roldy and Jared laughed at that. Roldy scooted over to Noah and batted his eyes at him.
"Love you. You know I would never do that to you," Roldy said.
"Ok, but back to me. What do I do?" Jared asked.
"Have you talked to him yet?" Roldy asked, "Do you need me to tattle to Kendall?"
"Thanks for trying to hype me up to do stupid shit, but what if the rumors are true? I don't know if I'm ready to hear that, because just a few days ago, I would have said Kyle would never kiss anyone else. Yet, I saw him kiss Rafi with my own eyes and I am not so sure anymore," Jared said.
"Don't take this the wrong way, but didn't he cheat on Lilly with you?" Roldy asked. Jared nodded his head.
"I think you need to go talk to him before you jump to conclusions," Noah said.
"I think kissing someone else is not an excusable offense, within this context," Roldy said.
"You don't know the details. Maybe Rafi kissed him," Noah said.
"I was there, Noah. I saw it happen," Jared said, "And what context is it ok to kiss someone else?"
"Like when you're joking with friends like we do, or how Kyle jokingly kissed Miles on New Year's, but now I'm starting to wonder if that was even joking, given the rumors going around about them and Miles recently coming out," Roldy said.
"Stop making sense," Jared said, smacking Roldy.
"Talk to him first! Don't listen to this fool," Noah said.
"You married that fool." Jared pointed out.
"I know, and he's usually smart, but this is for you and Kyle to figure out. Don't go in, guns blazing," Noah said.
"Nah, shoot shit up and leave no stone unturned," Roldy said. Noah leapt across the couch and tackled Roldy, covering his mouth.
"Seriously, talk to him calmly. You may not like what he has to say and you might break up, but be civil about it," Noah said. "Remember his dad is our boss and we don't want to ruin that relationship."
"Nah, Kendall loves us," Roldy said, pulling Noah's hand from his mouth. "He would probably take Jared's side in this."
Jared gave a weak chuckle at that. These two were right. He needed to talk to Kyle. Only Kyle could tell him what was what.
"So, what did your dad want?" Jared asked.
"Oh yeah," Roldy said sitting up. "He and Sashi had some news to share."
"Are they getting married?" Noah asked.
"No, actually. I'm gonna be a big brother," Roldy said.
"What?" Noah asked.
"Yeah, my sentiments exactly," Roldy said. "But it will be cool to have a baby brother so I can share all my sage wisdom."
"Sage wisdom?" Jared asked, laughing.
"Screw you," Roldy said, shoving Jared.
"Ro," Noah said.
"It's fine, Noah," Roldy said, turning his attention back to him. "I've moved past that. Like, yeah, it sucks that we aren't, but I am happy for them. I mean, I've always wanted a little brother, and it's better late than never."

Kyle sighed as he got ready for prom. It seemed so dumb to him now. He'd rather not go, but he didn't have a choice.
"Why are you going if you don't want to?" Leora asked as she entered the bathroom, shoving him aside so she could do her makeup.
"I don't have a choice," Kyle replied simply.
"Of course you do," Leora said.
"No I don't. That fucking prick the juniors call a class president is evil," Kyle said.
"How so?" Leora asked, confused.
"Let's just say, he knows something he shouldn't, and to keep him quiet I am going so they can keep stupid tradition of last year's king and queen passing the crown down," Kyle said.
"What? Blackmail?" Leora asked, shocked. "Spill the beans."
"Never mind," Kyle said, pushing past her.
He didn't need her to know that the junior class president, Martin Hollis, had caught him and Miles sneaking off one day a few weeks ago. He had followed the two and caught them making out. Kyle had struck a deal with him to keep him quiet. Martin had stuck to his word thus far. No rumors were floating around school yet, so he had to keep his end of the deal.
"Oh, come on. What dirt could he have on you?" Leora asked.
"It's nothing really, but I'd rather not risk any bad rumors floating around right now. I don't need to risk any bad press right before the tour," Kyle said.
Leora just rolled her eyes at him.
He left and headed to the room they shared. He walked over to his phone, which was charging. He saw no message or texts, which was weird. It seemed Jared was taking this whole semi-grounded thing seriously. He had barely heard from him over the last few days. He was sure this was Kendall's doing.
Lately everything felt like it was crashing in on him. His life was spiraling out of control. There was nothing he could do but hold on through the free fall.
He stood up from his bed. He grabbed his backpack. He pulled out the pills Jesse had given him. He had fallen right back into the pattern. It definitely gave him the energy he needed to get through the day. He took a couple before tossing the bottle back into his backpack.
He returned to his phone. He opened his messenger and started a text to Jared. He had texted him a couple times over the last few days, but he didn't get anything other than short answers from the other man. It was like he was mad at him too. Everyone was mad at him. It was unfair.
Kyle typed out an apology for missing their movie night last night, but Kendall was a dictator. He wasn't letting him out of his sight. He looked down at his phone as he waited for a reply.
"Come on, let go," Leora said, sticking her head in the door.
"Isn't your boyfriend picking you up?" Kyle asked, looking up at her, annoyed.
"Well, yeah, but dad and pops want pictures," Leora said. "You don't have to talk to him if you really don't want to, but just be nice or don't say anything at all."
"Fine," Kyle said. He slipped his phone into his pocket. He would deal with Jared later. Maybe he could ditch prom and go see him.
He followed Leora down to the living room. Kendall and James were already there with Carlos, Logan, Miles, Lucas, Artie, Layla, Erika, and Millie. Miles smiled when he saw Leora. He completely ignored Kyle. He was fine with that.
"Artie, what are you doing here?" Kyle asked, shocked to see him.
"Lucas got the principal to approve me," Artie said.
"Nice," Kyle replied.
Carlos and James quickly took over taking pictures. Eventually they had coupled everyone off. Kyle and Mille moved aside as more pictures were taken.
"So Maleficent, no Craig?" Kyle asked.
"Millicent, and it's Greg. And no, we broke up. His dad got a job out of state and they had to move," she said.
"Oh, sorry," Kyle said.
"I suppose Jared is too old for prom," Millie said.
"Something like that," Kyle chuckled.
He looked over as Carlos took several pictures of Layla and Erika, who were giggling and laughing together while James handled Miles and Leora and Lucas and Artie.
"Love sucks sometimes," Millie said.
"Oh, kid, you have no idea," Kyle replied, "it doesn't get any easier."
"I was afraid of that," Millie sighed.
"But it can be worth it with the right person," Kyle said, stealing a glance at Miles. He noticed his smile and how it didn't quite reach his eyes. "You'll find someone who you just click with and can share all your secrets without fear of being judged. When you find that person, you just know," he said.
"Like you and Miles?" Millie asked.
Kyle's head snapped back over to her. She had a knowing look on her face.
"No. I mean, he is my best friend. I mean, he just was," Kyle said.
"Do I look stupid?" Millie asked.
"No, you look evil," Kyle replied. He was starting to regret talking to her. "There is nothing between me and Miles. I am with Jared."
"Yeah, but I've seen the way you two have been acting. And always running off to his room and locking the door? You can't tell me you were always just playing video games," Millie said.
"I-don't know what you think you saw-" Kyle started.
"Millie!" Layla shouted from across the room. She ran over to the two and grabbed her arm. "You and me, now."
"I thought you would never ask," Millie joked, jumping up. She joined Layla in front of the camera.
Kyle sat there watching her. What was she implying? Who had she told? Who was she gonna tell? How had she even figured it out? Who else knew?

Adam yawned as he sat down next to Cooper. Jennifer had taken the kids tonight. She had missed them and wanted to have a sleepover. Adam and Cooper had been more than willing to let her.
"It's so quiet," Cooper said softly.
"Don't get used to it," Adam said, placing a hand on his stomach.
"I know, it's a false sense of security," Cooper laughed.
"Are we ready for another kid?" Adam asked.
"Not at all," Cooper replied.
"Oh, good, I'm not the only one who's scared," Adam sighed, relieved. He pulled Cooper closer.
"I don't know what you're freaking out about, I'm the one who's gotta push this kid out this time," Cooper said, snuggling into Adam's side.
"I love you," Adam said, smiling down at him. He pressed a kiss to the top of his head.
"So we are definitely gonna need a bigger place," Cooper said.
"I've been thinking about that," Adam said.
"House this time?" Cooper asked.
"Yeah, I think we should get married too," Adam said.
"We are technically engaged, even though you never wear your ring," Cooper said.
"Sorry, it gets in the way. I'm a total klutz and get it caught on everything," Adam said.
"Yeah, you are," Cooper chuckled.
"And I mean really do it this time. Let's get married and get it over with," Adam said.
"If we just go to the courthouse, your dads will kill us," Cooper said.
"So," Adam said.
"I rather like you alive," Cooper said, looking up at him. "We can start making plans if you want. I also don't want to be a whale when we get married, so we either do it in like two months or we wait until after the baby and I can get back in shape."
"Two months? That's impossible to get everything done," Adam said.
"So, we wait and take our time planning," Cooper said.
"Ok, fine," Adam said.
"Who's your best man?" Cooper asked.
"Day," Adam replied.
"Of course. I think I'll ask B," Cooper said.
"Yes, and we have to include Jake, Kyle, Leora, and Jenny," Adam said.
"Jenny and Miri can be flower girls, and Kenny can be the ring bearer," Cooper said. "And I'll ask Mina, Rina, and Jace to be my wedding party."
"Mason too," Adam said.
"Isn't he ordained by some website?" Cooper asked.
"Oh my god, we could ask him to marry us," Adam said quickly.
"We can't forget Mike and Luke," Cooper said.
"Of course," Adam said.
"See, we're planning," Cooper said, smiling.
"Look at us being adults," Adam said. "Now the real question is, what do you want for supper?"
"I don't know, as long as it doesn't have tomatoes," Cooper said.
"I could whip up some alfredo with chicken and spinach," Adam suggested. "I think we have chicken," he added.
"Sounds good," Cooper chuckled. He sat up, letting Adam get up. He leaned back into the couch once Adam was gone.
He watched Adam move about the kitchen, getting what he needed for dinner. Cooper sat back with a smile. He couldn't be happier than he was at this moment. The only thing that would make it better was having his babies home.
"Is it bad that I miss the kids?" Adam asked.
"I was just thinking that too," Cooper replied.
"Look at us, it's Saturday without the kids and here we are moping about missing the kids," Adam said.
Cooper stood up and stopped Adam. "Let's go out, then. Let's get our minds off the kids. This is probably gonna be one of the last times we get to do this for a while."
"Yes, sir. Let's go out and have fun," Adam said. He quickly put everything away.

Miles watched as Lucas led Artie into the gym. He hung back with Leora for a moment. She smiled at him. She took a step closer to him.
"Before we go in there," Leora said.
"Don't worry about me. I'll leave him alone. If he wants to be a dick, I won't bother with him. I'm waiting for an apology I will never get and I'm not holding my breath," Miles said.
"Ok, I just don't want him to ruin this night for us. He's been acting strange all week and been very moody," Leora said with a frown.
"Yeah, he's being a dick and I've been making excuses for him 'cause the tour is coming up and everything, but there is no excuse. He's just an asshole," Miles said.
"You ever gonna tell us what he did?" Leora asked.
"Does it matter?" Miles asked.
"No, I guess not, but we are curious as to what could tear you two apart. You've been best friends since kindergarten and survived a lot together," Leora said.
"Yeah, well, nothing lasts forever," Miles sighed.
"Is it because of me?" Leora asked.
"What?" Miles asked.
"Is it because we started dating? I never meant to come between you two," Leora said.
"No, it's not that. It's-it's complicated," Miles said. "Let's not focus on him. Let's just focus on right now. You and me, that's it," he said.
"Somehow, I don't think that will be possible," Leora said.
"I won't let him get to me. I'm here with you, aren't I?" Miles asked. "Fuck Kyle right now. He's the last thing on my mind. You're the one who keeps bringing him up."
"Sorry, I'd just hate to be the reason your friendship is ruined," Leora said slowly.
"It's not your fault. Now come on, let's go have fun," Miles said.
He grabbed her hand and led her inside. He knew deep down that she wasn't far off from the truth. He had to bury that thought away. She needed to think he was in love with her and only her. He needed to get over Kyle. There was nothing there. It would never work between them.
He quickly found Lucas and Artie dancing with Layla, Erika, and Millie. They joined them laughing and having a good time. Miles couldn't help but notice Kyle sitting across the room alone, glaring at anyone who got too close.
Miles turned his attention back to the other three before him. He wasn't going to let Kyle get into his head. This night was about Leora and making her happy.

Kendall laughed as he listened to Carlos talk about some onset shenanigans he had gotten up to with a couple costars. He was currently sitting on the loveseat, with James tucked into his side. James had a glass of wine as he laughed too. Carlos and Logan were together on the couch.
The kids had left for the dance, and Katie had taken Jenny for the weekend, claiming Jessica missed her, but Kendall knew it wasn't just Jessica. The guys decided to hang out. James and Carlos had whipped up a quick dinner.
Afterwards they had relocated to the living room. There was an argument over what movie to watch. In the end they decided on a movie they had all watched a million times. Kendall and Logan spent the entire movie laughing and quoting all the lines much to James and Carlos' annoyance.
"Do you have to do that?" James asked as the credits started to roll.
"Yes," Kendall and Logan answered simultaneously.
"They do it every time, don't act so surprised," Carlos laughed.
"Man, I can't believe this is going to be the last prom we have to deal with for a while," Kendall said, changing the subject.
"I know, no more until Jenny is older," James said.
"Lucky, we've got two more years with Layla, but then we are done," Carlos said.
"Jenny will be grown and dating before you know it," Logan said.
"Nope, I'm in denial about that," James said, shaking his head.
"She's almost three," Kendall said slowly.
"Miri too," Logan said.
"How did that happen? These kids are growing even faster than ours did," Kendall said.
"I know, it feels like the girls were just born, and now we have the boys," Kendall said.
A knock at the door caught their attention. Carlos jumped up to answer it. He returned with Adam and Cooper.
"Hey, what are you two doing here?" James asked, sitting up.
"We wanted to come talk to you," Adam said. "I'm actually glad you're all here," he added, looking to Carlos and Logan.
"What's up?" Kendall asked.
Adam looked at Cooper.
"Just show them," Cooper said.
Adam grinned as he pulled his phone out. He ran over to Kendall as he pulled up a photo. Cooper walked over to Carlos and Logan with his phone.
"I wanted to show you guys before we posted it," Adam said quickly.
Kendall nudged James up from his side. James sat up, rolling his eyes. Kendall took Adam's phone and looked down at the picture. It was a picture of Miri and Kenny holding a pair of controllers and wearing kids headphones with shirts that read "player one" for Miri and "player two" for Kenny, and next to him was a onesie that read "player three loading."
"Adam," Kendall said, looking up at him.
"Yes," Adam said, nodding his head.
"Are you serious right now?" Kendall asked, passing James the phone.
"What?" James asked, looking at the phone, confused.
"Are you pregnant?" Logan asked, his eyes wide as he looked at Cooper's phone.
"Yeah." Cooper nodded his head.
"Oh my god, seriously?" James jumped up. He pulled Adam into a hug. "Again? I thought you were on birth control."
"I am, but Cooper isn't, and there was a strep throat incident which we were all on antibiotics for," Adam said.
"And antibiotics negate some birth control," Logan said.
"Why does nobody tell you that when they give you antibiotics? I mean, I have been taking it so carefully, and it's a blocker too," Adam said..
"Wait, is Cooper pregnant?" James asked.
"Yeah, me this time," Cooper said, nodding his head.
"Well, congratulations! And I think that photo is cute," Kendall said.
"Yeah, Jake helped me with that," Adam said.
"Jake knows?" James asked.
"I'm sure Damien was first to know," Kendall replied.
"Third, behind Blaine and Rina, and I am never gonna live it down," Adam sighed.
"Blaine only found out 'cause he was there when we found out, well when the ER doctor confirmed what I already knew cause I had taken like ten tests earlier that day and they were all positive, so I already knew," Cooper said.
"We were just talking about how fast Miri was growing up, actually," Carlos said.
"I know. Kenny is gonna be one in a few weeks, and then Miri will be three," Adam groaned, "it's going way too fast."
"Speaking of, where are the kids?" Kendall asked.
"With my mom. She was missing them and wanted them for the night," Cooper replied.
"Yeah, we were enjoying a nice kid-free night when Jake sent me the pictures finally, and I wanted you guys to see them before we posted them," Adam said.
"We should tell my mom too, before you post that picture," Cooper said.
"Yeah, probably," Adam said.

Kyle was leaning against a wall, watching people dance. It wasn't so much dancing as it was grinding against one another. It looked gross and made him wanna barf. He hated prom with a passion. Nothing good ever happened at prom.
All night he had been avoiding people too. He didn't miss the stares they were giving him or the hushed whispers that turned to nervous laughter as he walked by. He didn't care what anyone else thought, he wasn't going to see any of these people after he graduated. None of them even mattered.
He pushed himself off the wall and made his way through the crowd. He exited the gym and made his way outside. He needed some fresh air. He made sure he was alone before walking over to his car.
He grabbed his backpack in the back seat. He pulled out the pill bottle again. He looked at the bottle. He wondered how much it would take for him to not feel anything. It would be so much better than feeling too much.
He heard someone exit the building behind him. He poured a few pills into his hand and took them quickly. He stashed the bottle in his pocket. He turned around, groaning inwardly when he saw it was Martian Hollis. He didn't need this right now.
"Kyle, I'm glad you could make it," Martin said with a fake smile.
"Didn't have much of a choice," Kyle said as he turned the sink off. He turned to dry his hands.
"Sure you did," Martin said, "I'm just surprised your sister is here with Miles. I for sure thought-" he started.
"Shut up," Kyle snapped.
Martin put his hands up. "So, does your boyfriend know you're screwing your best friend too? What about your sister, does she know?" Martin asked.
"I said shut up," Kyle spat.
Martin put his hands up with a sneer. "Relax, your secret is safe with me, for now."
"Look, I did what you asked. I showed up. You can't change the terms of the agreement."
"I can. That's what blackmail is all about," Martin said.
"Look, I showed up. I'm here. I'll crown you the fucking king like you asked," Kyle said.
"Yeah, but can you be less grumpy about it?" Martin asked.
"Nope," Kyle said. He pushed past the other boy.
Kyle headed back inside. He made his way down the hall, bypassing the gym. He leaned back against the wall, covering his face in his hands. Everyone just needed to leave him alone. Kyle took a few calming breaths. He had another hour of this crap before he could leave.
His chest felt tight. His knees felt weak. He slid until he was sitting on the floor. The world was closing in on him. It was getting darker and harder to breathe. His heart felt like it was about to beat right out of his chest. He could feel it thumping so hard.
"Hey."
Kyle looked up as a dark figure made its way towards him. He couldn't quite make out who it was. The voice was familiar, but his brain couldn't decipher who it was.
Kyle opened his mouth but no words came out. He couldn't focus on anything other than the pounding of his heart. Why was it so dark? Was the room spinning? He felt like he was suffocating.
