I do not own anything except any OC characters that I choose to add into the story. Thank you.
II.
The room was quiet for a few moments, "Are you alright?" The Goblin King's voice breaking the silence.
"Alright? Alright?! Why is heaven's name would I be alright?!" The woman exclaimed, pushing up from the floor as she began pacing back and forth. "I was kidnapped from god-knows-who in the middle of cooking supper and brought to god-knows-where because you've pissed-off some snobbish Fae." She replied, her voice hard as she gestured while she spoke, showing how aggravated she was with the situation. "And what did he mean, time is running out? And what is this 'Champion' business? Also, what did he mean about my first time down here? Does he mean when I ran your labyrinth?" She paused for a moment as she took a deep breath. "What have you gotten yourself into, Jareth?" The woman asked, this time her voice much softer.
A deep sigh was heard from the darkness, then a shuffling of chains, and then he spoke, his voice gentle, "Ah, sweet Sarah, I thought you might have forgotten my name." He paused, then continued when she didn't respond. "I am sure you are as vexed as I with this whole situation. As for time running out, unfortunately, that little bit of information somehow escaped from the small circle that I surround myself with. Seems as though I might have a mole in my midst. And as for 'Champion', that is your title. For one who defeated my labyrinth and bested myself, it earned you the title of 'Champion of the Labyrinth' or in formal company, 'Lady of the Labyrinth'. As for the predicament that we find ourselves in, you need not worry. Everything is going according to plan." Jareth said, trying to keep his voice soft and calm.
Sarah leaned against the wall as she let him finish his explanation, noting that he chose not to answer a few of the questions entirely, possibly due to the fact that they might not be 'alone'. She made a mental note to ask him again and wouldn't be taking no for an answer. "So, what do we do in the meantime, then?" She asked, raising her eyebrow.
His throaty chuckle drifted through the darkness again, "We 'do' nothing. As I stated, everything is going according to plan. I have contingences in place for this type of dilemma." Jareth said, pausing before continuing, "You should get some rest, precious, for we do not know what the morning will bring. I will keep watch, not that I can do much else." He finished gruffly.
"About that. Why have you not just 'poofed' us out of here?" She asked, sliding down the wall into a sitting position, the chains clinking softly as she adjusted her position.
"I do not 'poof' anywhere. And as it happens, my magic is currently useless due to the nature of that which bind us." Jareth replied, his voice hard as the sound of shaking chains could be heard from the darkness.
Sarah looked down at the chains on her ankles and pondered for a moment on why the chains would have any effect on him, when she realized and in a breathless voice she replied, "Iron…" There wasn't any response from the darkness. She pulled her knees up against her chest, folded her arms and placed her head upon them, "I would suppose a nap wouldn't hurt." She said softly, as she felt her eyes become heavy.
As a pair of mismatched eyes watched her from the darkness as she succumbed to her exhaustion, Jareth began to sing gently, not caring if someone could hear or not.
No one can blame you
For walking away
Too much rejection
No love injection
Life can't be easy
It's not always well
Don't tell me truth hurts, little girl
'Cause it hurts like hell
But down in the underground
You'll find someone true
Down in the underground
A land serene
A crystal moon
Ah
It's only forever
Not long at all
Lost and lonely
That's underground
Underground
Sarah was running, and it felt she had been running for hours. Her chest hurt and she was out of breath, but something inside of her told her to keep running. The walls seemed to loom in towards her as she ran. The twist and turns of the labyrinth lay out in front of her, and it was like she knew the exact route to take, unlike before. She took another turn and cried out as the ground under her caved in and she fell.
The fall was short, and she stood, rubbing her butt. It was dark, but for some reason she could see well, almost as if there was a light nearby, but Sarah could plainly see there was none. She shrugged, since that seemed to not be the most pressing matter at the moment, as something else was urging her onward. She took a look around to better acquaint herself with her surroundings. It was a tunnel, with a dead end behind her, that lay out in front of her. "Well come on feet." She said to no one as she started walking down the tunnel.
It was a rough-hewn tunnel, with only enough room for her and maybe someone of shorter stature to walk side by side. It didn't feel claustrophobic, which never bothered her before, but knowing the labyrinth, one wonders what may lay in wait for the unsuspecting. As Sarah continued on down the tunnel, she noticed a faint light further on, and she decided to focus on it as she went. The closer she came to the light, the brighter it became, which scared and excited her. When she came about 15 feet or so from the light, she noticed it was spilling out into the tunnel from a doorway. As she neared the doorway, she had to shield her eyes from the brightness. The light was warm and inviting as Sarah passed through the doorway, not knowing what lay beyond.
