Monday, Noon 11:12
The house is quiet. A drop of water falls from the kitchen faucet into the dirty dishes from the previous breakfast. The sun shows the dust in the air and shines on the closed eyes of a lone chipmunk laying on top of the couch
Alvin lays with his eyes closed. His headache had begun to clear but was still prevalent much to his annoyance. He had decided to watch some TV to take his mind off it but ended up just turning the volume down and resting his eyes atop the couch.
But he was forced to open them when he heard the sound of an old sports car driving up to the house. Alvin looked to the clock confused, It had only been three hours since the others had left which left Alvin perplexed."It's only 11:13, why is Dave back?" He asked himself. Nevertheless he didn't care as he simply closed his eyes again.
The door opens and Dave and Eleanor walk in. "What's Eleanor doing back so early?" He wondered, it didn't bother him enough to get off the couch though and he continued his sunbath.
"Alvin! Where are you?" Dave called out but his voice fell on deaf ears. He looked around the house and found Alvin in the living room "there you are! Are you awake?"
"Yes I'm awake." Alvin replied with his eyes closed
"How are you feeling?"
"Better than how I felt in the morning. What are you doing here anyway?"
"Oh uh I got a call from the school because apparently Eleanor had a bad day so they asked me to come get her."
This got Alvin to open in his eyes "What? Why, What happened?"
"I don't know she wouldn't tell me. Would you keep her company? She seems pretty down and I'm kinda on my lunch break right now so I gotta get back to the studio."
"(Sigh) Sure I'll do it."
"Great. She's in the kitchen, I'll be back with the others in three hours." Dave told Alvin and he left the house and drove off.
Alvin watched the car leave through the window and looked towards the kitchen,"Better see what's going on." He thought. Alvin got off the couch and walked through the living room which was connected to the kitchen. "Eleanor? Where are you?"
"Here…" Alvin looked to the kitchen but didn't see her. He went in and found her sitting on the kitchen island
"What're you doing up there?"
"Just uh… you know… thinking." Alvin jumped up to the island and noticed she had pink eyes. "Oooh you look worse than me Haha!" Alvin attempted to cheer her up but to no avail. He then sits down next to her "So eh why are you here?"
"Didn't Dave tell you?"
"No he didn't because he doesn't know."
"Well I don't really want to talk about it."
"You're gonna have to talk eventually. Why not do it now?"
"Because I don't wanna…"
"Well why not?"
"I just don't."
"But I do."
"Can we just not talk about it?"
"We have to talk about it." Eleanor pauses and looks away from Alvin and to the floor below
"(Sigh) alright… fine, I'll tell you. Just don't tell anyone unnecessary, okay?"
"I promise."
"Okay." Eleanor took a deep breath "Remember a few months back when I was… maced and robbed?" Alvin eyes got wide
"Wait… that had something to do with whatever happened today?"
"Y-yeah, it's just…" She gulped with her eyes beginning to water "There's this group of boys who have been…"
"Giving you a hard time?"
"Yeah, Exactly! They've been tormenting me for months, and no matter how many times I ask, they never stop…"
"Jesus… Why haven't you told anyone?"
"They threatened me, told me I would regret it if I ever told anyone."
"Who are these guys anyway?"
"Those guys who wear matching bomber jackets, they call themselves Bobcats?"
"Those assholes? I see them all the time! If only I knew I'd–"
Eleanor looked up "It's fine Alvin, really it's okay!"
"No it's not okay Eleanor! Nothing about this is okay. Listen, I'm gonna make sure they never bother you again, alright?"
"But if they find out I talked they'll–"
"I won't let em do anything to you. I promise" Eleanor stared at Alvin. uncertain if he would be able to keep his promise, as four teenage boys against one chipmunk would be an uneven match up
"I'm still not entirely on board with this…"
Alvin jumps off the table "Don't worry about it, relax. Here, let me make you some food for once." He walked over to the fruit "Can't be too hard, after watching Theodore make these every morning I'm pretty much an expert!" He opened the fridge and began rummaging through it
Eleanor raised her eyebrow "What are you making?"
Alvin finished looking through the fridge and closed the door revealing an egg in his grasp "Your favorite!"
"My favorite food is Blueberry pie, which has no eggs in its recipe."
"Oh uh hehe, Of course it is!" He jumps up to the counter and places the egg there. "Yeah but I don't know how to make pie so this will have to do." He runs over to the bread box takes out a slice of bread and cuts a hole into it "I saw Theodore make these one time." He brings it over to a pan. He turns on the stove and nearly puts the slice on it before Eleanor stopped him
"Wait wait wait wait!" Alvin looked at Eleanor confused, sure that he had done everything right "Did you butter the pan?"
"Uh I think I did… but I better do it again just to be sure." Eleanor laughed as he quickly ran to the fridge and got out the butter and threw it on the counter. He applied it to the pan and then placed the bread upon the pan. "Okay if Theo can do it, then I can too." He said to himself and cracked the egg and broke it over the hole in the bread, It fell in perfectly. "Yes! Ha ha I did it!" Eleanor couldn't help but smile even though Alvin wasn't even finished cooking
He let the toast cook and jumped across the counter to the kitchen table where Eleanor was sitting "your sisters will be home in a few hours, You're gonna have to come clean to them. Until then why don't you sit down and have some toast."
Eleanor looked at Alvin "Hey Alvin?"
"Yeah Eleanor?" She leaned to the side and looked behind Alvin
"I think it's burning…" the smile on Alvin's face disappeared
"What? No, I just put it on!" He looked back to the stove and saw smoke rising from the pan "Shit!" He jumped to the counter and saw he had it on high heat. He quickly got a spatula and flipped the toast revealing a nearly burnt underside "damn! I can't let her see this side! Wait… I know! I just won't burn the other side and only show that side!" Alvin smiled to himself as he watched the toast cook
"It's burnt isn't it?" Alvin looked back at Eleanor who had her arms crossed awaiting his answer
"Wh-what d-do you mean? I-I uhh didn't burn it! It's fine, don't worry about it!" He took the spatula and lifted the toast to see a crispy underside "perfect! She won't suspect a thing!" He took the toast off the pan and realized he forgot one crucial thing: A plate. He stood there holding the spatula for a few seconds before setting toast back on the pan and running to get a plate. He threw the toast on the plate and triumphantly presented it to Eleanor.
She took one look and then looked at Alvin skeptically, She lifted the toast to reveal a dark underside of burnt toast and dead unborn chicken. "Ummm it looks a little burnt don't you think?"
"Whaat? Your talkin crazy!"
"Are you sure? Because it looks like you burnt it and purposefully flipped it twice so I wouldn't notice."
"What? I-i did no such thing!"
"Right… It's not too burnt so I'll still eat it. just eh, pay better attention next time."
"Whatever." Alvin said and went to go wash the pan but Eleanor stopped him
"Can I ask you something about Theodore?"
"Of course, Shoot!"
"What does he think of me?"
Alvin looked at her and smirked "gee i don't know, you'd have to ask him yourself." Eleanor looked at Alvin, unable to see what he was thinking and sighed
"Okay… well I'm gonna eat this burnt toast you made
"Then I'm gonna go wash the pan and chill for a few hours."
After Alvin finished washing the pan he began walking back to the the living room but Eleanor jumped down and stopped him "Wait!" He looked at her confused. "You're not gonna tell him right?"
"Tell who what?"
"Tell Theodore that I like hi–" she stopped herself and Alvin looked at her and laughed "Stop laughing! It's not funny!"
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! It's just so funny!"
"No it isn't!" Eleanor said visibly upset
"Whatever you say. But hey! Little word of advice," Alvin got close to Eleanor and whispered to her "The key to my Little brother's heart is cheesecake." Eleanor looked at him and smiled. "Welp, I'm gonna go chill on the couch." Eleanor watched him leave and went back to her toast and finished while thinking of Theodore completely forgetting about the Bobcats.
In the living room Alvin layed on top of the couch awaiting the inevitable conversation that would be arriving in a few hours, and fell asleep.
