Kessy, Owl and Gopher had a long, cold night. They curled up in their hiding place. It was too risky to fly out considering the excitement they just caused. For a time they spent the hours to come up with a plan to find the others and avoid the Dark Dream King. They kept thinking and thinking and thinking. The trio soon fell asleep after thinking too much.
The next morning, they woke up. Every part of their body aches after laying amongst hard rock. Gopher tried to stretch but it almost made him fall off the edge. Feeling the air, he leaped back and hugged Owl. Kessy stretched out her wings then shivered as a gust went past them. Stomach rumbled loudly, making everyone flinch.
"Garn sarnit!" Gopher grumbled. "We need to get outta here before we're sitting ducks! I think we can go now."
Owl turned to Kessy. "Kessy, would you be a dear?"
Kessy flew out carefully. Her wings flapped tenderly to avoid being seen since her blue feathers stood out against the mountain. She flapped and glided. So far, there was no one there. Suddenly, a gust of wind caught her. Kessy tried to turn around and head back but it didn't work. It felt as if the wind formed puppet strings that she had no control over. After a few moments of thrashing she crashed into a wall of black feathers.
"Well…Isn't this my lucky day?" A raven looked down at Kessy with a massive grin. His beak shone brightly in the light. "After all my spells, I've finally conjured up one that will make everyone remember my name. Jinx the Raven!"
Kessy raised a brow. "Jinx? As in bad luck?" She clamped her beak to hide her laughter.
Jinx glowered. "Don't get too chummy, bird! One day all will fear me as the ultimate magic user and scout!" He moved closer to Kessy. "Where are your other friends? I know they're hiding somewhere."
"Like I'll tell you anything!" Kessy hissed. She was suddenly clapped down by claws. She struggled and thrashed but no luck.
"Come on out, right now! Or I'll squeeze the life out of her!"
Owl gulped. His wings shifted. "Oh…dear…This-this is terrible. I've never imagined a predicament like this…" He turned to Gopher. "What should we do?"
Gopher pondered for a moment. Then it hit him. "I got an idea!" He whispered to Owl of his plan once the large bird leaned in. "Just get ready to flap and have another garsssshh darn spell ready!"
Jinx looked around. His dark eyes watching every part of the mountain. "Well then, I guess I'll take you to the Dark Dream King myself." He was about to speak an incantation when something blinded him. Before he could find the glimmering source, a large shape knocked into him. Forcing the raven to let go of Kessy.
Kessy fluttered in the breeze. She angled toward Owl. The two birds veered right in hopes of avoiding being seen by any Chimeras. "Nice work!"
"Don't celebrate yet!" Gopher yelled over the wind. "We still need to make a break for those cliffs! Then, we can find Pooh and the others!"
"I remember the map Tobias showed me." Kessy explained. "If we can get past them, we should be able to sneak past the Chimera before they do their patrol."
"Get ready!" Owl shouted. "I'm ready for wind maaaaaagggggiiiccc!" Owl's wings were tugged left and right. His vision spun as the gales began to twist, almost forming a tornado. He stuttered and shifted. Finally, he found the incantation he was looking for. "Spin and weave, but yield thy winds! For I believe!" A gust of wind canceled the current long enough for Owl and Kessy to slip through. Owl looked over at a dizzied Gopher. "Are you alright?"
"I'll let you know when my stomach stops turning.." Gopher covered his mouth. His face turned into a dull shade of green.
Kessy spotted the place of their goal. "I see it!" She gasped as a Jinx blocked them with a large armor made entirely of wind. "How does he do that?"
"I won't let you pass!" Jinx shrieked. He flapped his wings hard. Blades appeared out of nowhere. He laughed as Kessy and Owl dodged them. Gopher held on for dear life. "Pathetic! Now I'll-Huh?!" To his shock Kessy glowed a strange fire around her body.
"Rings of fire. Cheerful blaze." Her eyes glowered at Jinx. "Pyro light, get us through the haze!" Suddenly, her entire body was engulfed in flames. She resembled a Firebird more than the little blue bird that Rabbit rescued years ago. She plowed into Jinx, knocking the wind out of the black bird. Owl flying behind her.
"Well done, Kessy." Owl beamed.
"Thanks!" Kessy smiled back. The smile was soon gone when she saw Jinx flying after him. "Yikes! He doesn't give up that easily does he?"
"I won't let you escaaaape!" Jinx flew faster. His black eyes burned with rage. His wings flapped harder and harder. The winds howled all around him.
"Dive to that valley!" Owl yelled. "Quick!" He arched his back slightly. He felt Gopher hold onto him tighter. He zoomed to the ground. Kessy right beside him. As the ground began to move closer and closer, his wings were feeling the tug of the fierce gales. "Now!" He pulled up at the last moment.
Just as Kessy was pulling up, a red portal appeared in front of her. She heard Jinx laugh hysterically behind her. Oh no! She thought. Not again. Just as she was about to enter, she heard several screams come from the other end. A solid wall of fur and feathers shot out, causing her to fly backwards. Jinx soon joined the mess and the group soon landed with a loud crash.
Owl and Gopher gasped at the sight. They flew closer to have a look. To their surprise, the strange shapes that crashed into Kessy were Gypsey, Tobias and Lacy. All of them were clumped together, groaning. "What in tarnation?!" Gopher yelled. "How did ya get here?"
"Have you found out how to the spell that will rescue us?"
Lacy shuffled a little bit, then her head popped out of the pile. "If we had, we wouldn't resort to dark magic to do so."
"Then how did you get here?" Owl asked.
"Curses!"
Everyone turned their attention to a mass of black feathers popping out of Gypsy's wing. "If I'd known someone casted a Shadow Warp Spell, I would have avoided it!" He pulled himself out and preened his feathers.
Kessy got up with the help of Gypsy. "So, if you didn't bring them here…Who did?" She gasped as growls were heard. Shadows covering them.
"I think we got bigger problems…" Owl eyed the Chimeras cautiously. Various heads and horns glaring at them. Orbs of red and orange filled with hate.
"Oh, ya think!" Gopher shouted.
