Naruto and Kakashi stared at each other, a heavy silence had broken through their conversation at the mention of breakfast. Naruto smiled, "Sure. I know a small little restaurant that serves the best cinnamon rolls." Naruto said as he reached into his pocket and grabbed his wallet, "On me." He said.
Kakashi nodded and followed the boy. Watching his back as he walked, a small bit of information from Hiruzen had made him curious as to what exactly he was dealing with. "You…you served during the third war didn't you?."
"Hm, yeah." Kakashi said simply, clearing his throat. "That must've been interesting."
Kakashi said nothing at that statement, simply looking at Naruto before looking away.
Naruto opened the door for Kakashi and let him, following the man to a small booth where they quickly made an order. "It's very interesting." Naruto began, "Children…the way they act."
Kakashi looked up from the glass of water, "well they're children. I would imagine their very little experience to world would be the conductor of their behavior." He said, Naruto frowned, "Really?, I guess I think differently. A child and their growth is defined entirely by the people that raise them." Naruto said as he leaned back and began smiling again, "You have to point them in the right direction…before their dreams are realized."
"Dreams…what kind of dream do you have?." Kakashi asked. "Hmm, a fox." Naruto responded.
"A fox?."
"Yeah…a fox, very nice looking animals. You ever seen them smile?."
Kakashi didn't know how to properly respond to such a simple and straightforward response. Simply saying huh and nodding. Their food and arrived and Naruto quickly began eating, Kakashi watched him, contemplating what he was about ask next. "Hey Naruto, do you remember a girl named Aiko Tamaki?."
Naruto stopped eating, looking up from the plate with an odd expression for moment before he flashed a small smile. "Aiko?…hmm yeah that sounds familiar. I think we went to class together…she kind of stopped coming one day."
"Do you have any idea of what happened her.?"
"No…we never talked, I didn't care much for her."
"Hm, you know that old BBQ spot, the one that hosted all those ninjutsu display nights?."
"Yeah, I think so."
"Yeah her dad was the owner, apparently their whole house went up in flames. No one got out, it was…crazy…a massive man hunt was conducted but nothing ever came up."
"Hm, I try not to concern myself with those kinds of things…I wouldn't worry about it." Naruto said, as he poked the grilled fish, "I don't know, I just thought it was a bit weird you know I—"
"It's best not to be worried about those kinds of things." Naruto repeated, Kakashi frowned. "All I'm saying is—"
"You're foods going to get cold, besides once we finish here we oughta get going."
Kakashi looked down at his plate, ignoring the food and reaching for the cup of water, "I talked with lord third." He said, this seemed to get a slight reaction, Naruto stopped poking his food for a second before he quickly began poking it again. "You did it didn't you?."
"Did what?" Naruto asked incredulously.
"You killed those people."
"That's a strong accusation Hatake…I wish you wouldn't attack my reputation so harshly." Naruto said facetiously. A small smirk flashing across his face.
Kakashi put the cup down, and stepped out of the booth. "I'll see you at training ground seven." He said as he walked away, Naruto simply staring at the man walk away before looking down at the food and snickering. "Funny guy." He said.
Naruto grabbed a toothpick on his way out, twirling it between his fingers for a few minutes before entering a ninjas weapon shop, walking to the very back and grabbing cartfuls of paper bombs and steel chakra wire, staring at the silver thread for a moment before dropping it into the cart.
He walked up to the cash register and flashed a smile, "You find everything okay?." The young cashier asked as she began removing his items from the cart, "Are you kidding me?, this place has yet to lack something that I need. I mean really, it's always quiet, cool and—the costumer service is superb."
The young girl blushed, "Thank you." She said quietly, Naruto looked around. Admiring the simple architecture before looking back at the cashier, "now, I've got to ask, and the answers probably no and that's okay, but. Can I meet the owner?."
"My fathers not here at the moment but I can pass on any message if you'd like."
"Woah, look that. Lucky me. Tell your father he should think about franchising, a high quality establishment would be very popular."
The cashier nodded, "I will pass it along…Mr…?"
"Naruto, Naruto Uzumaki. May I get your name?."
"Tenten."
"Well, it was very nice to meet you and I do hope to see again." Naruto said as he paid and grabbed his things, "it was a pleasure meeting you as well !." Tenten said as she waved, Naruto returning the wave with a small smile.
He arrived late. Not by much but late enough to get chastised by Sakura, "Ah, sorry, I lost track of time whilst eating breakfast." He said, zipping up the tan pouch strapped to his pants.
Kakashi eyed the boy for a moment before rooting through his pocket and pulling out a pair of two, silver bells. "Alright, now that you're all here we can finally get this thing underway." He said calmly. "This is what's called the bell test, while some jonin may use a different variant of this test i like to use the most effective method. You have until 1:00 PM to get these bells."
He wrapped the belts around a belt loop and clapped his hands, smiling under his mask, "If you don't have a bell by the time the test is over I will quickly send you back to Iruka and he can deal with you for the next year." He said, Sakura frowned, "but there's only two bells."
"Yeah?."
"So one of us will fail either way."
"If you say so."
Sakura grit her teeth at the dismissive answers, Kakashi only continued to smile. "Alright then, oh and one last thing. Come at me with the intent to kill." He said. "With that said, Godspeed."
There was silence for several seconds before the sound of the students scattering filled the air. Each genin taking off in different directions.
Naruto landed with a quiet thud, reaching into his pouch and pulling out the massive bundle of explosive tags and chakra wire.
"Intent to kill."
