Later that night…

Inside the darkened Library of Jade Mountain Academy, Starflight was in a secluded spot that served as his spot to sleep. Fatespeaker was resting next to him in the combined bed of moss made for them. They rested in curled balls side to side. As the blind NightWing slept, he dreams of things that could have been along with what had happened in his life.

Starflight pictured himself in a majestic realm where memories played in his head of all the things he had done and could see before his sight was taken from him. At his side, he saw Sunny, whose bright smile warmed his heart. He saw all the things they had done together and even visions of a future he once pictured, where he and Sunny became a couple, running the library together and even having dragonets together in the future. But those dreams were crowded by the things that had happened to him, from a giant dragon destroying a prophecy tablet, to fire blasting into his eyes, among other things that had happened. The last thing he saw in his dream was Sunny, with a saddened look on her face, holding his paw…before she let go and flew away from him.

Back in the real world, the heartbreaking dream was enough for the NightWing to quietly sob as he slept. His shedding tears were the only sign of life his eyes could produce. He sobbed for his new life, he sobbed for what he could never have with Sunny, he sobbed for everything he had lost at this point. His sobbing was just loud enough to stir Fatespeaker awake, and she looked to see the sobbing NightWing. With a saddened look adorning her snout, Fatespeaker gently rested her head on top of Starflight's neck, and wrapped a comforting wing around him as a form of comfort…

The Next Day…

Starflight was at his desk, running a claw through a small wooden tablet to read out its words. This was one of the only ways he could continue reading and learning more about Pyrrhia and its tribes. The other ways were the times when Fatespeaker would read to him or when he practiced reading Braille. Starflight remembered the beauty Pyrrhia had, despite all the danger he and the others had been through, all the times they were imprisoned, forced to fight, or moons know what was worse. His crippling injury left him feeling like he was forever trapped in an endless, pitch-black void. There was no light to be seen anywhere, and the only way he could picture any of his friends was by picturing them as best as he could from the memories he had. The other way he could tell his friends were there was from the voices that ran into his ears to remind his soul of what was happening before him.

As he continued reading through the wood tablet, he remembered the day he and Sunny spoke. That one day from 1 month and 4 weeks ago where they talked about his romantic feelings. "Im Sorry, Starflight. I love you, but…not like Fatespeaker does". Those words played over and over in Starflight's head like they were etched into the stone walls of his mind. His heart felt heavy from his unrequited feelings for Sunny, feeling as if Blister and Burn came back to life, shrunk to its size, and shredded it to strands with their claws. He tried to look happy after that day, wanting Sunny to feel like he was doing OK despite being rejected. All this did each time he saw Sunny made his heart weigh heavier each time.

"Starflight." a voice said, cutting through his heavy thoughts as he read from the right side of him. He knew it was Fatespeaker, who was helping him in progressing with his blindness.

"Yeah, Fate" He responded, his voice giving its best attempt to sound normal.

"I just found a new scroll that I think you would like" Fatespeaker responded as if she was busy with something." I have to go and pick it up, I left it in the Great Hall"

Starflight's head was in Fatespeaker's direction, listening to every word she had said. Starflight knew that Fatespeaker loved him romantically, but he knew that the feelings he had for Sunny simply couldn't compare to those Fatespeaker had. She was only his close friend and assistant…for the moment. Starflight nodded at her proposal. "Go and get it then, Fate. " Starflight responded. "I'll be right here."

Fatespeaker smiled as she left the library through the main entrance. However, unbeknownst to Starflight, Fatespeaker crossed the other side of the exit, where Clay, Sunny, and Tsunami waited for her signal. She had them wait at the lip of the library entrance for well over thirty seconds. After that long half a minute, Clay gave Fatespeaker a long paper that was made to look like a scroll, and she quietly gestured them to come inside with a beckoning wave of her talon. The four dragonets quietly traversed the corridor into the library, where Starflight continued reading from the wooden tablet. But when he licked his lips, he stopped and fully stuck out his forked tongue like a snake. Through that, Starflight picked up multiple scents-Something muddy, something fishy, and something sandy. He wasn't sure why he was smelling these sents until the realization slowly came into his head.

"Fatespeaker…you didn't tell me we were gonna have Clay, Tsunami, and Sunny in today," Starflight responded with surprise in his voice.

Clay, Tsunami, and Sunny approached before they all sat on their hind legs just a few feet from the desk each with a solemn, apologetic look on their faces.

"Hello, Starflight," Clay spoke first to the blind NightWing in a saddened, yet determined voice.

Starflight's brow raised upward, for just because he was blind didn't mean he could still make expressions. "Why are you guys here?" Starflight asked with curiosity in his voice "Shouldn't you be readying the classes and yourselves for the new-"

"This is different, Star." Tsunami interrupted firmly. Starflight was quick to silence himself at Tsunami's brash, yet authoritative voice.

Sunny looked at the NightWing with an empathetic look adorning her snout."We're here to talk to you." Sunny responded firmly, but not unkindly. "To help you"

Starflight had tried to diffuse the situation by acting like he was casual and happy. "Guys, I appreciate you all coming, but I can handle the library with Fatespeaker. I don't need help-" Starflight responded with his best diffusing sentence.

"Yes you do, Starflight." Clay firmly interjected, making Starflight stop mid-response. "We know all about how you are feeling about what Sunny told you, among other things, Fatespeaker told us last night. That's why we're here"

Starflight looked grew a surprised and defensive look on his face at their response. "What did they know about him that they are suddenly so concerned?" He thought in his mind. He then opened his mouth and spoke in a defensive voice to Fatespeaker over what they said about her. "Fatespeaker, what did you tell them?" He asked.

"Everything they needed to know, including the things you did" Fatespeaker answered, confidence dripping in her voice and how she stood.

Clay carefully moved closer to the desk, with Sunny and Tsunami behind them. They soon stood at each open space of the desk, just a few inches from the now-surrounded NightWings. Clay maintained his apologetic look on his snout.

"We each here to tell you how much we value having you in our lives, and to apologize for seeing you differently" Tsunami explained in an equally apologetic voice, though it was more reluctant in tone.

"I'll Start" Clay responded as he placed a forearm on his shoulder. "Starflight, you were always the oddball in our group, with your endless knowledge, and constant lecturing that got under our scales, and all that. But above all that, you've been a huge help to us than we thought. If it wasn't for your knowledge, none of us would be here and helping achieve peace in Pyrrhia. It's taught us many things about the world and helped us get through many obstacles in our path. You doing all those things back on NightWing Island only adds to this. I'm truly for seeing you differently. I couldn't have known." Clay quietly poured out to his brother, in a tone a sincere leader would speak.

Starflight's confused look grew into one of odd forgiveness over Clay's apology. Next, Clay moved back and Tsunami stepped forward. "Starflight," The SeaWing began in her brash voice. "I saw you as an annoying, uninteresting, weak NightWing with no powers and no strength. I saw you as a NightWing that tried to lecture us on every single thing you know about Pyrrhia and its kingdoms, to bore and annoy us in showing how big your brain is, but was so cowardly and weak to prove yourself in battle." Tsunami seemed to say insultingly.

Starflight grew a smug look at Tsunami's seemingly insulting view of him like she didn't care about how he was feeling.

"But…I was wrong" Tsunami suddenly said, reluctance painfully obvious in her voice. Her response caught Starflight off-guard, for he didn't suspect Tsunami of all dragonets to be one apologizing to him."A few times during our adventure, I had admittingly felt sorry for you at times because I believed that you lacked bravery, fighting skills, and especially powers since you're a NightWing. But then Fatespeaker told me everything that happened when you were gone back on NightWing Island. I never knew you could be so brave when you have to, especially when you killed this "Viper" Fate told me about. Who knew a dragon could be killed by the most unlikely of dragonets?"

Tsunami's admittance seemed slow and reluctant as she spoke. But Clay was quick to push her along. "Can you please get to the point, Tsunami?" Clay responded to help Tsunami speed up with what she had to say. Tsunami looked at the MudWing and nodded. "Yes, Thank You, Clay." Tsunami quickly thanked Clay before looking back at Starflight. "Starflight, what I'm trying to say is I'm… I'm sorry. For misjudging you and all that during our adventure. You're much more valuable to us than you think, and it's our fault for seeing you differently." Tsunami reluctantly apologized, her voice sounding like it was forced out of her, almost like Clay had a spear pointing at her neck ready to stab her unless she said what she had to say.

Starflight, however, couldn't believe what he was hearing from them. He always thought they probably didn't care about me much because of how much knowledge he had and what little desire he had for battling. He wondered "Why were they all apologizing to me all of a sudden? They did nothing wrong." Starflight felt Clay's apology was sincere and that Tsunami's apology was genuine, yet reluctantly forced out of her. But since Sunny was also here, and was the one he was feeling longing and pain for, The NightWing wondered what she had to say to him about this.

Sunny quietly approached Starflight, looking up at him due to her being slightly smaller than him. She looked at her brother with unshed tears that decorated her apologetic expression on her snout. "Starflight…you being heartbroken, and all these things Fatespeaker told us…is it all true?" Sunny asked.

Starflight knew she didn't love him romantically, but didn't want her to feel like she did something wrong. "Of course not." Starflight quickly said to the hybrid in a falsely normal voice. "You're doing this to help me feel better when it isn't necessary. You all have better things to focus on than being here for me. I'll be o-"

"Don't lie to us Starflight." Sunny told Starflight in a firm, but not unkind voice. "I know you wouldn't lie about anything to us. That just isn't you"

Starflight tried to maintain his normal, unfazed look as she spoke, but deep down he knew she was right. Starflight may be a know-it-all and he may be cowardly, but brave when he has to be. But the one thing he never was to his friends was a liar. Starflight gave off a reluctant sigh at her response."Yes Sunny…it's true." Starflight humbly, yet sadly, answered. "I just saw everything that happened with the tribe, and how things were not what they seemed. I had to help them somehow, and that was why I did all those things, including helping Glory stop Battlewinner and all that." Starflight continued to explain. His explanation only made Sunny's guilt, regret, and pain grow more as her brother poured his pain onto her in his explanation. "As for my heartbreak" Starflight continued to speak, but his breathing began to audibly falter with emotion. "I know you don't have romantic feelings for me. I know you love me like a brother, nothing more. I just thought I had a chance to be with you, cause you were the only one that saw me for who I was. I just…I just didn't-" Starflight explained, as his voice started to break.

But all the SandWing-NightWing did was rest her talons on Starflight's shoulders, her reflective eyes beginning to form a thin line of tears. "Starflight" She began, with an already broken voice. "I feel it's my fault that I just turned you down so bluntly. I should have told you my feelings more thoroughly" Sunny explained, while still having her talons on Starflight's shoulders. You know we all grew up together in the same cave with the Talons. I felt you were one of the few dragonets I could talk to. And I felt your knowledge would help us fulfill the prophecy and it did. I liked having you around during our adventures because of how smart and knowledgeable you were. Even if it got on the other's nerves".

Starflight's lips wobbled as Sunny explained her reasons for turning him down in better detail.

"So when you confessed your romantic feelings for me, it confused me afterward. You know this. I was just unsure about how I loved you because romance never struck my mind about you. About anyone, in fact. Me rejecting you is not because you were boring or because you were annoying or anything like that. I just…couldn't have those feelings for you. I honestly wished I could, but my heart said otherwise."

Starflight brought his snout down, feeling the same pain he felt after Sunny turned him down previously, perhaps more so with her much more detailed reason. Sunny, however, brought his head slightly upward with one of her talons to have his head facing her directly, even if he was blind.

"But I want you to know that this doesn't mean I don't love you overall." Sunny began to assure, determination lightly mixing with her apologetic tone. "You are one of my favorite dragonets to know. I love the fact that you cared for me so much and how you always reassured me. You've always been there for me and the others, and your knowledge, no matter how annoying Clay and the others thought it was, played a vital role in ending the war and fulfilling the prophecy."

It was here during Sunny's reassurance to Starflight that her eyes began to slowly form tears, as her voice became more broken. "You are family to us, even when we found our real ones. I am so…so sorry for underestimating you Starflight. You've done so much back on that island and we didn't know that…I didn't know that. You cared about fulfilling the prophecy just as much as I did, and none of us saw that. I just want you to know that…even though I can't have that relationship with you, I'm still going to be here for you. To talk, to listen, to be there when you need me...because that's what family does: they are there for each other. I promise you Starflight…I will always be family." Sunny told Starflight.

"We will always be family," Sunny, Clay, Tsunami, and Fateseaker said in unison before Sunny carefully wrapped her wings around the NightWing.

Starflight felt overwhelmed by what they all had said to him, especially by what Sunny said. He once believed them all as people that couldn't care less about what he taught, with Sunny being the one he felt he could connect with. So all of them assuring Starflight that they were family to him began to touch his heart more and more, as his blindfold began to slowly dampen from his now shedding tears. "Guys…I.." Starflight tried to piece together, his voice making his slow sobbing visible.

Sunny's grip on Starflight tightened as she closed her eyes, and her lips quivered, just slightly baring her teeth as she let out a hard sniffle. She felt her eyes burn from the tears that grew as her body shook ever so gently, her pain and regret from hurting Starfilght evident. "Starflight…I'm sorry…I didn't mean-…" Sunny tried to piece together to further apologize to her brother for his unrequited love for her, and his heartbreak as a result of it. And then it happened. The dam that Sunny had in her mind holding back her tears broke open. She cried when Dune was killed by Scarlet. She cried when Kestrel was found dead. But those times are nothing compared to how she cried in Starflight's grasp. Her small frame shook as she took a deep breath, and released her pain in the form of loud, heart-shattering bawls that mixed with her audible sobbing as her tears exploded freely from her eyes, running down her face and dropping like raindrops onto the floor of the library. Each mournful wail the hybrid let out stabbed deeper and deeper into Starflight's heart.

It wasn't long before Starflight's internal dam broke and he sobbed along with her, wrapping his wings around her body as tight as he could. His tears seeped through his blindfold until they dripped through the bottom of it as 2 log streams of sorrowful tears.

As they embraced and sobbed, Clay, Tsunami, and Fatespeaker shared a heartbroken glance with each other, before, one by one, they each embraced the sorrowful dragonets. Clay, being a giant MudWing, had the easiest time doing so thanks to his large frame and massive wings.

"It's alright you two. We're all here for you. Let it all go." Clay whispered gently to his brother and sister, resting his large head in between Starflight and Sunny.

Despite fighting the urge to, despite still wanting to look and feel composed and fierce, it wasn't long before Tsunami felt tears leak from her eyes as she tightened her embrace of the two dragons. She felt her tears forcefully leak from her eyes as she gave off an occasional sniffle.

Fatespeaker was the only one hugging the two dragonets that didn't cry, though her mind was screaming to do so.

To add to the comfort he and the others were offering Starflight and Sunny, Clay slowly closed his eyes and did something none of the dragonets expected him to do. Clay...began to purr. It was a low guttural purr that emanated from his throat. It vibrated into the hearts of each dragonet he cared for, his familial love for them radiating from every beat of his heart. The group continued with their sorrowful embrace for what felt like an eternity before Starflight and Sunny's sobbing quieted down, the two dragonets slowly collecting themselves.

When he felt they had calmed down from their intense sobfest, Clay looked at the two dragonets, a warm, loving expression in his eyes.

"We're gonna take you outside for the day." Offered to the two of them, but mainly at Starflight. "Would you like that?"

Starflight remained silent as he pondered for a moment. He would be better if he was left to continue reading in the library, but…since they had 6 months left to get the school in order, he felt a day of flying would be good for him.

"I…I'd like that." Starflight quietly agreed as Sunny, still sobbing, mustered a warm smile at her brother.

Clay, Tsunami, Fatespeaker, and Sunny carefully led Starflight out of the library into the Great Hall, where they stood in unison together, their wings fully spread and ready to take flight. Fatespeaker and Sunny stood with Starflight in between them and they exchanged a thankful look in their eyes before each dragonet leaped into the skies of Pyrrhia on their special day of flying…
