Everyone inside the house stood still, frozen in place. No one even dared to breathe as there was another loud knock at the door. The occupants of the house all looked at one another, wondering who should answer the door.
"Well, so much for taking the fight to Cal," Jack frowned.
"I don't want him here Jack," Rose stared at her husband pleadingly, hoping that he'd have a plan to deny Cal entry.
"I don't think we have much of a choice, Rose," Jack went to her and took her into his arms. "It'll be alright. I won't let him near you."
"It's not me that I'm worried about."
"Dawson! Rose! I know that you are in there, you might as well come out and face the music!" Cal called out, clear anger and hatred in his voice. He banged on the door again, this time even harder.
"What do you want to do?" Tommy asked, keeping Lily in his arms.
"I guess I'll go answer it," Jack sighed, feeling like there really was no choice. Besides, this was his house. He was responsible for what went on in it.
"Jack!" Rose grabbed his arms, not wanting him to go.
"We have no choice, Rose."
"Fine...but let me go with you. Everyone else...stay here in the kitchen. It's just Jack and myself he wants at this time."
"Rose," Sarah began to object, feeling bad for all the trouble she felt that she was causing. After all, if she hadn't run away, Cal would never have shown up here.
"It'll be ok. Besides, he has a new fiancee, right? He probably just wants to tell me off. I can handle that," Rose gave a shaky smile, before taking Jack's hand. She looked at him with a grim smile. "You jump, I jump. Right?"
Jack returned the smile and leaned in to give her a short kiss. "Right."
Together, Jack and Rose walked into the front room and opened the door to a glaring Caledon Hockley and who Rose recognized as Isabella, his new fiancee. Isabella's eyes grew wide when she saw Rose, alive and well.
The couple stared at Jack and Rose in stunned silence at first. Then Cal's eyes filled with rage.
"I always knew you were a faithless slut!" Cal's hand shot out and slapped Rose.
"You son of a bitch!" Jack's fist immediately shot out and connected with Cal's nose.
"Cal!" Isabella cried out in dismay.
Jack wasn't finished. He launched himself out the door, pushing Cal to the ground, and began punching him. Cal was fighting back and soon the men were wrestling on the ground, fighting for the upper hand as they cursed at each other.
"Oh my god," Sarah gasped in dismay.
"There you are! You have caused us so much trouble!" Isabella glared at Sarah.
"Oh shut up! Fabrizio, Tommy, separate them!" Sarah took Lily so Fabrizio and Tommy could pull the two men apart.
It so happened that Tommy and Fabrizio both pulled Cal off Jack. Cal struggled in their grip as Jack walked up and hit Cal again in the face.
"That's for flipping a table and scaring Rose!," He punched Cal in the stomach. "That is for planting that necklace on me and having me locked below a sinking ship. Compliments of the Chippewa Falls Dawsons!" Jack punched him again. "That was for slapping Rose again." Another slap. "That's for abandoning Lily!"
Finally, Rose had enough and pulled her husband back. "Darling, that's enough. You'll beat him to death if you don't stop."
"You are a barbarian!" Isabella cried out.
"Oh shut up, Isabella! Before I have Sarah do the same to you!" Rose shot back, annoyed by her presence in her house. "What are you two even doing here? I had given Harold that infernal necklace to return to you, so you should be going back to Pennsylvania by now!"
"If only!" Isabella rolled her eyes.
"You gonna keep your hands to yourself if we release you, mate?" Tommy asked, giving Cal a stern look.
"The hell I will! I want revenge!" Cal struggled in their grip.
"Oh Cal, give it up. From what I hear, you deserve it. In fact, Jack deserves to get another hit in, seeing that you had shot at them both, chasing them deeper in that sinking ship," Sarah rolled her eyes.
Jack grinned as he moved towards Cal. "That's right. I do deserve another one."
"Jack, stop! Please, no more violence," Rose sighed, feeling tired. She walked up and took her hand in his, trying to ignore her stinging cheek from where Cal had slapped her. She could see the rage simmering in Jack's eyes when he looked at her, probably noticing a bruise.
"He bruised your cheek," He growled.
"I'll be fine. It'll heal. Besides, you gave him more than one punch for me. Let it go," Rose forced a smile.
"Now we're going to ask again, can we let you go without any more trouble?" Tommy asked one more time, ready to just knock Cal out himself.
"Fine. I'll keep my hands to myself," Cal grumbled.
As soon as Fabrizio and Tommy released him, Isabella raced into his arms.
"Oh, Cal! That horrible boy hurt you! Such a horrible gutter rat," Isabella sobbed.
"Oh please, Cal wouldn't have got hit if he hadn't hit Rose upon sight," Sarah folded her arms, having given a crying Lily to Leah to take upstairs. "What are you two doing here anyway? Like Rose said, she had the heart of the ocean returned to Cal because she didn't want anything to do with him anymore."
"I came here to let her know what I think of her and her shenanigans on and after the sinking! Having an affair with a steerage whelp! Then faking her death instead of returning to her family! Wasting our money and time on a useless memorial service! We all mourned her death!" Cal spat.
"Oh please! My mother mourned the loss of her meal ticket and as for you, you only mourned for that tacky necklace! You cared nothing about me!" Rose snapped.
"That's not true! You were precious to me, Rose!"
"Jewels are precious, Mr. Hockley. You know, it's sad. When I saw you on the Carpathia, checking on Lily...I thought that maybe I was wrong. Maybe you had a heart after all."
"You were there?" Cal stared in disbelief.
"Yes, I was. I saw you down in the steerage section, walking around, looking for me. I hid and followed you and watched as you inquired about Lily, who you used to get onto a lifeboat. I thought that maybe you were going to take the child in and claim her as your own. Instead, you abandoned her. Giving an address so when she came of age she could work in one of your mills."
"Oh Cal, you are a bastard aren't you?" Sarah shook her head, disgusted by her brother.
"Oh shut up, you!" Cal glared angrily at his sister. "This is your fault! You couldn't just do what you were told! Just like Rose, you just had to have your own way and ran away from your duties! Well, I have news for you! Father sent me here to get you back and drag you back home by your hair if I have to and that is exactly what I'm going to do!"
"No, you're not! You will do no such thing!" Sarah glared at her brother, her dark eyes flashing with determination.
"Oh yes, I will too! There is nothing to stop me! Not Rose, Not Dawson, they have nothing to do with you! They cannot help you! You are a Hockley by blood and you will do what Father says! Which is to return home with Isabella and me immediately!"
Sarah smirked as she held up the hand that wore Fabrizio's ring. "Oh yes, there is something to stop you! I am no longer Sarah Hockley. I am Sarah DeRossi now and there is nothing that you and Daddy can do about it."
Cal and Isabella stared at Sarah in outright horror. Cal took a step towards Sarah but found his way blocked by Fabrizio.
"You are not going anywhere near my wife. You can leave now. Go back to where you came from."
"That's right, Hockley. It's over. You're leaving here without Rose and without Sarah. Neither of them wants anything to do with you," Jack stated, drawing Cal's attention away from Fabrizio and back to him.
"You. This is your fault!" Cal glared at Jack.
"I don't see how. I didn't tell Rose to leave you. In fact, if you had been a decent fiancee and not her mother's little puppet, she may have stayed and married you. She wouldn't have looked at me twice. If you had treated Sarah like she was a person and not some piece of property for you and your father to barter with, she would have willingly gone home with you. She may not have run away at all. When will you and people like you learn that you can't treat people like shit and expect them to stay?"
"I don't want Rose anymore. You can have the faithless wench! I hope she's happy living in squalor!" Cal glared at Jack with disgust. "As for Sarah...well father will hear about this! She may not have to come with me, but she's going to wish that she had!"
"Really, Sarah. I don't understand you," Isabella shook her head in disapproval. "You could be on the arm of a wealthy businessman, living in the lap of luxury. Instead, you marry this filthy Immigrant and will end up living in the slums."
"Oh please, this house is far from a slum, Isabella. It may not be Hockley Manor, but it's the best place I've ever lived, thank you very much," Sarah rolled her eyes.
"Come along, Isabella. We are done here!" Cal grabbed his fiancee's hand and began pulling her back to the car that was waiting at the end of the path leading up to Dawson's front porch.
Something suddenly occurred to Rose and she stepped forward again. "Cal wait! What's become of my mother?! Is she well?"
Cal glared at Rose one more time and gave a disgusted snort. "As if you cared, Rose. The fact that you never contacted her in all this time tells me that you don't."
With that, the couple made their way back to the car that had brought them there and was now gone.
"Well, that was interesting," Tommy watched the car disappear down the street.
"We did it, though! We confronted him and won!" Sarah squealed with delight, hugging her new husband. "I'm finally free!"
Rose sighed, getting a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach. Things seemed like they had come to an end where Cal was concerned, but she had a bad feeling that they were only just beginning.
