Thanks to gaara king of the sand for the help.
Everyone gets back on the train and they start moving again. Danielle is sitting on the edge of the boxcar, her walkie-talkie beside her. Clementine sits next to her.
"Do you want to talk, Clem?" Carley asked the teen.
Clementine quickly shakes her head.
"What about you, Dani?" Carley questions.
Danielle frowns and shakes her head as well.
"Okay… Are you okay, Dani?" Carley asked the young girl.
"No..." Danielle muttered.
"What's wrong?" Carley questioned.
"I'm just thinking about what Chuck said." Danielle replied.
"What'd Chuck say?" Carley asked.
"That what happened to Duck would happen to me." Danielle said.
"The fuck he did. I'm gonna go talk some sense into him. You girls sit tight." Carley huffed.
Danielle nods, and Carley goes to talk to Chuck who is standing at the front of the train.
"What the hell did you say to Danielle?" Carley inquired.
"She told you what I said didn't she?" Chuck replied.
"You told her she was gonna die; that she was gonna end up like Duck. Why'd you go and do that?" Carley demanded.
"'Cause she is." Was Chuck's blunt reply. "I don't know much about you folks, but I can tell you, sure as the sun's gon' come up tomorrow, that y'all keep going on like this and that girl ain't gonna make it. None of those kids are."
"What do you know?" Carley huffed.
"I know that you don't have a goddamn plan. We get to Savannah and then what?" Chuck asked.
"We'll figure it out." Carley said.
"Well, get to figurin' because it'll be on top of us before ya know it." Chuck said. "Look, y'all need to sit down and hash things out. Find a map for Christ's sake-I'd give you one if I had it. And if something were to happen to you... you gotta prepare the kids. Teach them how to use a weapon."
Carley sighed, knowing he was right. She already had a close call with Lilly. "Clem knows how to shoot and Dani's just a little kid?"
"You think she's too young to handle a gun? There ain't too young, not anymore. You gotta consider her a living person. That's it. You're either living or you're not. You ain't little, you ain't a girl, you ain't a boy, you ain't strong or smart. You're alive." Chuck said. "I suggest you give both your girls a haircut, I have scissors in my pack. And then show all of those kids how to use a gun, if they don't know how because like it or not, that's what saves your life from here on out. Explain to the little one how they work and not to be afraid. I don't mean to tell you how to do your job, but too many people have died already..."
"You're right…" Carley said.
"And seein' another kid die might just do me in." Chuck said.
"I hear you." Carley said. "It's not bad advice… But next time… Save the harsh words for me, not the kids."
"Will do." Chuck said.
Carley nodded and walked away, going back to check in on Clementine and Danielle.
Danielle looked over to her and asked, "Did you talk to him?"
"I did, he had some, uh...he explained himself and made some good points." Carley said. "Look, we're not going to let anything bad happen to you. But there are some precautions we have to take."
"Okay, yeah, that makes sense." Danielle said.
"You need to learn to protect yourself." Carley said.
"Like hiding or running away? Got it." Danielle nodded.
Carley shook her head. "You need to learn how to shoot, honey."
"But… But what if I mess up…?" Danielle worried.
"Don't think like that. You won't." Carley replied, picking up her gun and showing it to the child. "First, don't be afraid of it. It's just a tool. But know where your finger is all the time. And don't put it on the trigger unless you want to hurt somebody."
Danielle hesitantly took the gun. "Okay. Okay."
"See, it's not scary." Carley said.
"It's heavy." Danielle commented.
"You'll get stronger. To aim, you look right down the top, through that notch. Line up the sight at the end with your target." Carley explained.
"Okay…"
"Squeeze the trigger, steadily, okay? Don't give it a quick yank or pull." Carley told her.
Danielle nodded. "Steady. I can do that."
"And always aim for the head…"
"What if it's a bad person…? Not a walker." Danielle asked.
"Then just keep shooting…" Carley said.
"Okay. I'm ready…." Danielle said.
Carley grabs an empty bottle from the ground and set it onto a crate. Danielle aims the gun. Carley helps her properly hold it.
"Good. Don't lock your elbows." She adjusts the child's arms. "Okay, let's take the first shot. Squeeze the trigger smoothly and I'll cover your ears. Nice and easy." The woman covers Danielle's ears.
With some hesitation, Danielle fires but misses.
"That was okay… We'll try it again.
"But my hands hurt. I don't like this…"
"I know, but it's important…"
"Okay…" Danielle muttered.
Carley once again helps her properly hold the gun, coaching her on where to aim.
The young girl manages to shoot the bottle.
"Amazing! Great shot." Carley said.
"Thanks." Danielle smiles.
"Let's try it again. Practice makes perfect." Carley said. She set up another bottle and the two continue to practice for a while.
Clementine frowns, the sound of the gunshots reminding her of the sight in the forest. Of Katjaa, of Duck… Of Shawn.
The girl forces herself to her feet unable to listen anymore.
"Clem, are you okay?" Carley asked.
"I… I just need some air…" The girl rushed outside.
Danielle looked concerned. "Is she gonna be okay…"
"I hope so Dani…" Carley said. "I think that's enough practice for now.
"Okay. I feel good." Danielle said.
"Not so scary, huh?" Carley asked.
Danielle shakes her head. She returns the gun and Carley puts it away.
"Now we need to do something about your hair. Clem's hair could use a trim too…"
"A trim? You- You don't have to cut my hair… I don't want it cut…" Danielle replied.
"I think that might be best…" Carley said. "Unless we find a way to pin it up."
"Please don't cut it… I don't want it cut…" Danielle frowned. "I-I like it long… Mommy liked it long…"
Carley sighed at that. "Okay… But we can't leave it down like that…I'll see what I can do…"
"Okay…"
Clementine decided to go outside for some air and noticed Ben out there "Hey… Crappy day, huh?"
"The crappiest…" Ben agreed.
"Crappiest ever…" Clementine mumbled.
"Clem… If… I were to tell you something…" Ben paused. "Please… Please …Promise you won't hate me."
"Why would I hate you?" Clementine asked.
"You just might when you hear what I have to say…" Ben said.
Clementine furrowed her brows. "What are you talking about Ben?"
"…It was me." Ben said after a moment.
"Huh?"
"I was the one giving the bandits supplies." Ben told her.
Clementine's eyes grew wide. "WHAT?
"It's all my fault." Ben buried his head in his hands, looking guilt ridden.
"What for? Why the hell would you do this?" Clementine asked, her heart aching as she realized he was the one she saw while on watch that night. How could he have done this…?
"I know. They said they had my friend, that he was with them. By the time I realized they didn't, it was too late...they said they'd kill me. Kill all of us. I'm sorry, Clem." Ben said.
Clementine feels tears began to fall. Tears of anger and pain. "It's all your fault. Yo-You killed Shawn… Katjaa and Duck are gone because of you! You ruined everything!"
"I know… And I'm so sorry… If… If I could take it back I would…." Ben frowned. "I…I was thinking about talking to Kenny..."
Clementine immediately shook her head. "I don't think that's a good idea… Not right now…"
"I guess not. I just… feel he should know…" Ben said.
"If Kenny finds out, he'll kill you…" Clementine said.
"I figured…" Ben lowered his head.
"I won't say anything, and right now… you shouldn't either…" Clementine said.
"…Okay…" Ben agreed.
Not wanting to be around him any longer, Clementine returned inside.
"Just in time. I was thinking, you could use a haircut." Carley spoke.
Clementine noticed Danielle was laying down, her hair secured in a different style.
"I don't need a haircut…" Clementine argued.
"Clem… it'd be smart to… trim your hair… That way it won't get grabbed…" Carley said.
"I can take care of myself, Carley…" The teen said.
"I know you can, but I still worry about you…" Carley said.
Clementine sighed. "Okay… Fine…" The girl gave in. "Please don't make me look stupid. I already feel stupid…"
"Clem, don't talk like that…" Carley said.
"I couldn't help anyone… If I was smarter… none of this would've happened." Clementine said.
"Stop… I don't want you blaming yourself. Nothing that happened is your fault…" Carley said to the girl.
"Maybe if I noticed more—"
"Nothing was your fault, Clem…" Carley said.
Clementine didn't respond. Carley frowned and just focused on trimming the girl's hair. Just as she finished and offered the teen her hat back, they felt the train jerk and Kenny shout. "OH, SHIT! HOLD ON, EVERYBODY!"
The train squeals to a halt and everyone gets out.
On the overpass ahead of them, part of a gas truck is hanging off the edge and blocking the road.
"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! FUCK! FUUUUUUUUUCK!" Kenny shouted.
"Maybe we could walk?" Ben suggested.
"That's fucking stupid, Ben." Kenny retorted.
Ben frowned. "I'm just sayin'..."
Chuck hummed. "I dunno; I ain't got much experience with y'all's fortitude but we could probably deal with that. We got a goddamn train."
"That thing's not full of milk, Charles. That's gas or diesel; something that's going to explode." Kenny said.
"YOU gotta get ahold of yourself. This a crew here." Chuck said.
"Shut the hell up. Don't tell me how to—"
"Yo, you keep screaming like that and you're gonna get your face chewed off." A man suddenly called to them.
"Are you guys gonna be trouble? Because we could've just kept walking." A woman calls.
They look up to see a man and a woman stand on the overpass. Kenny reaches toward his gun. Carley quickly stops him.
"No, we're friendly!" Carley calls then hisses in a low voice to Kenny. "Don't even think about it."
Kenny huffs, but lowers his hand.
"That's what everybody says." The woman on the overpass replies.
"We know." Carley said.
"You guys got a problem with your train?" The man asked.
"Yeah, you're standing right in front of it." Kenny called back.
"Dude, it's a wreck. It's not so bad from up here. Send one of your people up to have a look." The man replied.
"I'll go… I'll see what these people are about." Carley said.
"Anything goes sideways up there, we won't let them escape." Kenny said.
"Settle down, Kenny…" Carley said. Slowly she approached the ladder. "If I come up there, you better not be murderers or thieves."
"I guess you'll have to find out." The woman replied.
Carley sighed and climbed up the ladder. She can hear the two talking amongst themselves just as she reaches the top of the overpass.
"Hey there, I'm Omid." The man greets.
"Carley."
"Christa." The woman introduces. "What's the deal with the train?
"We're driving it." Carley answered.
Omid beamed at that. "OH, MAN."
"And your people… What are they like?"
"...We've… had a pretty bad day, but I can assure you everyone down there is cool." Carley said.
"We're sorry for anything that's happened to you guys." Omid said. "That train is awesome, though."
"That tank is your real problem. We'll help you with it, but if we see anything we don't like, we're moving on down the road. Alone." Christa said.
"We'd appreciate the help." Carley said.
"You can't just blast through it, I guess." Omid sighed.
"If you could get it down, the rest would probably be pretty easy." Christa said.
"We'll start there." Carley said.
Christa nodded. "We'll come down and settle in and see if we can help."
Carley agrees to that. She's glad these people aren't looking for trouble. They head back to the group to talk to the others about their plan.
"Guys, this is Omid and Christa."
All of the group member looked at them but say nothing.
Omid rubbed the back up his head awkwardly. "Not big on welcomes..."
"Like I said, we had a long day. But we're not against good people." Carley said.
"Holy shit! You guys have a kid!" Omid suddenly said, noticing Danielle.
"Yeah… We do…" Carley said.
Danielle shyly hid behind Clementine.
"Well, we just wanted to say hi and say that your train is pretty cool." Omid said.
"But we're not looking for charity." Christa added.
"We COULD help you guys, though." Omid said.
"Maybe." Christa spoke.
"So, yeah...hi, uh, again." Omid waved.
"The plan is to cut that tanker down and be on our way." Carley said.
Kenny nodded. "Seems like plan enough to me."
"You want to start in on that tanker?" Omid asked.
"I'll get to know the girls for a minute, if you don't mind." Christa said.
Carley nodded in response.
Kenny looked to Omid. "Why don't I show you how this thing works, in case something happens?"
"Really, Kenny?" Carley asked.
"It's probably for the best. Someone might want to have a look inside of that station back there, too." Kenny suggested.
"Sounds great. Let's do this thing." Omid said.
Kenny and Omid enter the cab. Christa goes to talk to Clementine and Danielle. Chuck sits on a rock, playing guitar. Ben sits on top of the train.
"So… Where are you from?" Clementine asked.
"San Francisco." Christa replied.
"You're pretty far from home then." Clementine noted.
"I blame the one in there. He wanted the "great American road trip"." Christa said.
"I guess he got a little more than he bargained for, huh?"
"For sure…"
Carley walked over to the girls. "I'm gonna take a look around, you two good here?"
"Well… I can come too." Clementine said. "I'll watch your back."
"Alright kiddo…" Carley agreed.
"Can I come…?" Danielle asked.
Carley and Clementine exchanged looks. Carley reluctantly nodded. "Sure, I don't see why not."
"You three be careful in there." Christa said.
"We will." Clementine replied as she stood, taking Danielle's hand.
Carley and the two girls make their way over to the station. They notice the words "SURVIVORS INSIDE" is painted on the roof. Clementine frowned, she wondered if there were still any survivors inside.
Carley and Clementine approach the door, Clementine holding onto Danielle's hand. Carley tries the door, but it's locked.
"Damn… We'll have to find another way in." Carley said. Carley notices a window above the door but can't see into it.
"Dani, you think you can take a peek inside?" Carley asked the young girl.
Danielle nodded. Carley picks the girl up and allows her to look into the window. "Okay, I can see in, what do I do now?"
"What do you see?" Carley asked.
"Lots of crates and stuff." Danielle said.
"Maybe we can find the key or figure out a way to knock this door down." Carley said.
Danielle reaches through the window and unlocks the door. "I think I opened it."
"For real?" Clementine asked.
"I think so." Danielle said.
Carley places Danielle down and tries the door. It opens.
"Nice job, Dani." Clementine praised.
"Thanks." Danielle smiled.
They enter the station and it's too dark for them to see much of anything.
"Maybe we can find something to prop the door open." Clementine suggested.
"Yeah, sounds good." Carley said.
Clementine notices a brick on the ground and uses it as a door stopper. Sunlight illuminated the building.
"That works. Nice thinking, Clem." Carley said.
"Okay. What do we need?" Clementine asked.
"Something to help us deal with the tanker out there." Carley said.
They looked around Clementine spots a blowtorch. "What about that?"
"Actually… That's exactly what we need." Carley said.
"But how do we get in there?" Clementine asked.
"I'm not sure… Maybe…" Carley paused and notices the keys are inside the cage. "Damn… There's the keys, but we need a way to get them…" She looks at the gap above the door. "There's some space up there, but not much. Dani… Do you think you can… go over the top of the fence and grab us the key?"
Danielle nods in response.
"Be careful, Dani." Clementine tells the little girl.
Danielle nods. "I will."
Carley boosts Danielle into the cage while Clementine watches her back.
The girl notices a walker approaching from another door and calls to Carley, "Watch out!"
"Shit!" Carley quickly pulls out her pistol, as another walker is approaching. She manages to shoot both of the walkers while Clementine rushes to the cage where Danielle is at. "Danielle, get the keys, hurry."
Danielle nods and rushes to grab the key, as a walker in the cage stands to approach her. She hand it to Clementine who takes it through the bars while Carley shoots the last walker.
Clementine unlocks the cage and pulls Danielle into a hug. "Are you okay?"
Danielle gives a small nod.
"We're okay. Everything's okay." Carley said.
"What's going on? I thought I heard a gunshot." They heard Christa's voice from outside the door after a moment.
"More like three…" Clementine muttered.
"We're fine." Carley called back.
Christa enters the building and notices the walker corpses.
"We found some walkers, but we handled them." Carley said.
"I guess you did… But if you three were to die in here, three dead turns to six, and that would've been a problem." Christa said.
"Good thing it didn't happen, then." Carley said.
Christa huffed. "I'm gonna go make sure the noise didn't cause us any problems."
"That's a good idea." Clementine said.
Christa smiles and nods, then starts to leave. Before reaching the door, she turns back to Carley. "I hope you know what you're doing for the kid's sake…"
"We're still alive, aren't we?" Carley replies.
"Yeah, you are." Christa said then turns to leave.
"Can we get out of here, please… It's spooky."
"Yeah, Dani…" Carley said. "Are you sure you're okay?"
"Yeah. I'm just a little shaky." Danielle said.
"It'll pass." Carley picks up the blowtorch and they head out and return to the group.
Omid exits the cab when he spots them. "Find anything…?"
"We found a blowtorch in the station. This might help us out."
"Excellent, I'll come up there with you to have a look.
Omid climbs the ladder. Carley follows after him. Carley sets the blowtorch down and turns it on, but it doesn't ignite.
"Shit." She mutters.
"What's up?" Omid asked.
"The hose has a leak in it." Carley said.
"Turn it off," Omid said. "I don't want my eyebrows burned off!"
Carley complies
"We better plug that leak with something." Omid said.
Carley looks around until she finds some tape in the back of a nearby truck, she then uses the tape to cover the leak.
"I'm not gonna be much help with cutting this thing…"
"Yeah… Me either. It's pretty much out of our reach." Omid said. "But your friend down there… He's pretty tall,"
"Ben?" Carley asked.
"Yeah… Why not send him up here?" Omid suggested.
Carley was unsure. "I don't know…"
"Do you have a better plan?" Omid asked.
She didn't… "Alright, I'll go get him…" Carley reluctantly agreed. The woman headed down to go get Ben.
"Me, you want me to do this?" Ben was shocked that she had even suggested that.
"Ben, you can handle it… We're counting on you here…" Carley said. She really hoped he'd be able to do this.
"But… But what if I mess up…" Ben asked.
"You won't… I'm sure it'll be okay… But we need you to do this…" Carley said.
Ben took a deep breath. "…Okay…"
Ben shakily looked to the ladder and begin to climb.
"Great, you're here. You know how to work this thing?" Omid asked.
"U-Uh, not really…" Ben stammered.
"Well it's pretty simple…" Omid showed him how to turn it on. "Just… focus on the hitch, it should cut right through…"
"A-Are you sure this will work?" Ben asked.
"Dude, you're melting metal with fire. It'll work." Omid said.
Ben nodded. "I got this… He muttered to himself before turning on the blowtorch. He started to cut the hitch while closing his eyes.
He was more than surprised that it was actually working.
"That's crazy, look at it go." Omid said.
After a few moments, the truck starts to slide down. Noticing this, Omid pulls Ben backward to safety before the teen can fall.
"Cr-Crap… Thanks…" Ben said.
Omid nodded. "No sweat, man."
"It just needs another cut…" Ben said. "But I can't reach it now."
"Damn… No way I'll be able to reach it…" Omid said.
"Maybe if…" Ben trailed off.
"If what?"
"No… Nevermind…" Ben shook his head.
"Hey, don't do that? What's on your mind?" Omid asked the boy.
"If… I dangle you by the edge and you cut… We'd… be able to… reach it…" Ben said after much hesitation.
"What?" Omid asked, wondering if he had heard right.
"I'm sorry! I know it's stupid… I just…."
Omid sighed stopping him. "Alright, we're try it… Just… don't drop me…"
"O-Okay…." Ben said. He would try his best not to.
Omid leaned over the edge and used the blowtorch as Ben held onto his arm to keep him from falling.
As Omid cuts, Ben glances up and notices something. "Oh shit!"
"Guys, there walkers on the way!" Carley calls to them.
Omid flinches. "WHAT THE WHAT?"
"There must be thousands..." Ben panicked. "WE GOTTA GO! NOW! CUT! CUT!
"I AM!" Omid exclaims after another moment he says, "IT'S GOING! PULL ME UP!"
Ben quickly pulls him up and the tanker falls and crashes into the ladder, destroying it. "How the hell do we get down?" Ben asked.
"I- I don't know… Fuck!" Omid said. "KENNY GO, we'll find a way down!"
Everyone but Ben and Omid get into the train as Kenny starts it up.
"We'll find a way how?" Ben panicked.
Omid rushes over to the railing, watching as the train starts to move, Ben rushes over as well.
They both climb over the railing, leaning against it.
"We…We gotta jump." Omid said.
"Wh-What? N-No!" Ben protested.
"We have to!" Omid said.
"GUYS, COME ON!" Christa calls.
Ben starts taking quick breaths, not knowing what to do.
"It's fucking scary, right?!" Omid asked him, then looked behind them to the walkers. "But that's scarier…" Seeing Ben wasn't going to jump, Omid pushed him.
Ben yelled and landed on the train with a yelp.
Omid then jumped and hit the top of the train, bouncing to the ground. He screams in pain.
"Shit!" Christa jumped down and helped Omid up. Omid limps and Christa runs alongside the train. Ben gets into the boxcar while Christa and Omid run beside him. Carley and Ben grabs Christa's arm and hoists her into the boxcar.
Clementine and Carley then reach to Omid, but he falls behind due to his leg.
"OMID!" Christa exclaims.
Omid picks up the spend and manages to grab Carley's hand. The woman and Christa quickly help him into the boxcar.
"That...was a LOT...of them." Omid muttered.
"Y-Yeah…" Clementine muttered. "Are- Are you okay?"
"We're alive, but my leg is fucked." Omid replied, through heavy breaths.
"We're fine, Clementine. We're fine." Christa assured the teen.
Things just kept getting worse… Clementine decided this was the worst day ever.
