Chapter 4: An Offer You Can't Refuse
Ron Stoppable was feeling positive, school had left a good taste in his mouth (for once).
He'd managed to deal with Possible and was now free to act as he wished- well… within reason, of course. There were still a few things he needed to do, before he'd be able to tackle his real goal. 'All in good time…' he mused to himself, chuckling lightly.
Suddenly an annoying ringing emanated from his pocket, his good mood souring rapidly. 'Great… I completely forgot about this damn thing…' Glancing at his 'Ronunicator', he sighed and rolled his eyes. 'Such a stupid name.'
The blonde very reluctantly answered the device, staring at the familiar face of his hacker teammate. "Hey Wade, what's up?" he greeted the boy, hoping that this wouldn't be something that would get in his way- or worse… annoy him.
"H-Hey Ron… um, can… can we talk?" the young boy asked very tentatively, glancing away from Ron.
Suppressing the urge to roll his eyes, the blonde nodded his head. "Sure… what is it?" Ron wanted to desperately cut the call and go back to his planning, but refusing to talk with the young genius now would only hurt him in the long run.
"I've, um… heard about it- you and Kim, that is…" the boy began, confirming Ron's suspicions. "I just wanted to ask how you're doing…" Wade asked calmly, clearly trying to gauge his friend's mood.
'Annoyed that you're bringing this up… but overall, I'm doing great! Never been better, especially when I think about how SHE'S doing!' the blonde thought to himself, deliberately looking away from the screen. "Wade, I'd rather not talk about it…" he admitted grudgingly.
"R-Right… sorry for bringing it up…" Wade stammered. "But, that's not the only reason why I called you…" the boy on the other side of the screen continued. "There's been an incident in the city. I still don't have all of the details, but-"
"An incident? Anyone we know?" Ron asked, a bit of interest in his voice. He could use a little something to do, hopefully it would give him more time to think… away from the prying eyes of his 'team'.
"I'm not sure yet… but it seems like it" Wade admitted, seriously regretting calling the boy. This entire conversation had been strange and uncomfortable, far from Ron's typically lighthearted fare.
"Okay… when can you get me a ride?" the blonde sidekick asked.
"Y-You want to go… alone?" the hacker questioned, Ron nodding for confirmation. Wade found himself puzzled, his friend was not normally one to jump into a hairy situation… especially one he had no information on.
"I think I can at least check it out… maybe even deal with it myself. Hell… it might even help me with my thoughts…" Ron expounded. He needed to show that he was fine with his breakup with Kim, perhaps this would also be a good opportunity to prove that he didn't need anyone's help.
"Oh, okay… that works, actually…" Wade muttered, glancing away for a moment before turning back to his blonde friend. "Give me ten minutes! Your ride should be there before then" the younger teen explained, cutting the call.
In truth, Wade had intended to ask Ron if he was capable of taking care of this mission on his own. Or, failing that, with some help from Global Justice. The hacker had been contacted by Kim's mom fairly recently, the older Possible stressing that it would be better if Kim abstained from missions entirely until they sorted this whole breakup out- or when she calmed down, whatever came first.
Wade had been prepared to offer Ron some form of assistance in the mission, inform Dr. Director, or even just pass on it entirely. Seeing Ron so RECEPTIVE left him wondering…
'It's probably nothing…' Wade was still a preteen, he had no experience with relationships- let alone what came after them. He had no idea how most people dealt with breakups, or the pain that followed.
He just hoped both his friends could got back to being a happy couple- or, failing that, at least remain good friends… He didn't want to even imagine what it would be like, if they stopped being friends altogether.
X-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-X
Ron arrived at his destination, some no-name lab he'd never heard of in the middle of the city. Looking up at the structure, he noticed it was fairly isolated from all the other buildings around it.
'Pretty sketchy… another one of Global Justice's secret labs?' Ron pondered. It wouldn't be the first time he'd been sent to one of their research facilities (or military outposts), with the mission of recovering (or destroying) something they didn't want to lose control of. "May as well get this over with…" he groaned to himself, walking inside.
'Could it be Drakken, with another stupid idea? Maybe Monkey Fist, or DNAmy?' Whoever was responsible, it didn't matter. They would all end up in the same place… at his feet, after he was done with them.
The blonde teen simply walked inside the building, not seeing any reason to obfuscate his presence at the moment. 'If they're still here after all this time, they would have to be either really confident or really dumb…' he mused.
According to what Wade had told him, the lab itself was on the higher floors. Nice and secluded, tucked away from any prying eyes. And on the off chance it was discovered, or infiltrated? They had a clear view of said intruder's escape route, as well as plenty of time to intercept them. All of which left him wondering… what was even up there?
The elevator he'd found dinged upon reaching Ron's destination. It wasn't the roof, but only a few floors below it. He noticed a few broken sensors, along with scorch marks all around the elevator's entrance, it was clear that Wade's info was correct.
All the broken furniture and scattered rubble would have made any other agent wary, cautious. Ron didn't see a reason to even bat an eye over it… this was hardly the first time he'd been confronted with such a scene.
Walking a bit deeper into the facility he spotted a few open doors, as well as several that had been blown inwards (obviously the result of failing to keep the intruder out). Scattered chairs, broken desks, and numerous papers littered the floor.
Broken cameras, fried lights that flickered on and off at irregular intervals, everything gave off the feel of a science experiment gone horribly wrong. The only thing missing was blood and bodies, but Ron knew for a fact that all personnel had been evacuated at the attack's inception.
The intruder must have been pretty content with letting everyone escape, instead focusing on their objective alone. 'Sounds like Shego-' Ron mused to himself, his train of thought cutting off upon feeling the hair on the back of his neck stand up. He ducked out of the way in a hurry, swaying to the side.
His reward was a pure bolt of blueish lightning slamming into the wall, scattering debris and sparks over the floor.
"I didn't think they sent in anyone else… seemed pretty responsible for them. Well… I hope you weren't close to retirement…" a cold voice declared, its tone promising an abrupt end to whoever was in its way.
'Well… maybe this was a good call after all…' Ron mused, already recognizing who had spoken.
The smoke cleared to reveal a slick, dark bodysuit. It was covered in lines running over it, like traces on a circuit board. A head of hair shaped like electrical cables- along with thick, dark, round goggles suitable for serious welding.
She stared right at him, taking a moment to processes who the person in front of her was, a smile broke out on her face. "Well, look at what we have here… Did you and your partner come to try and stop me? Or, did you come to see me specifically?" the older woman asked, the power in her hands steadily growing increasingly lethal.
"Mmm… I suppose it's a little bit of both, actually…" Ron confessed in a casual tone. He tapped his chin, sliding to the side once more as a bolt slammed into the ground in front of where he'd been standing. "Oh my, I think someone's a bit cranky…"
"Shut up! Don't think I'll let you off the hook like last time!" Electronique fumed, a bit of color on her face (and more power in her palms).
"YOU let ME off? Funny… and here I thought I left a pretty good impression on you…" Ron teased, watching her expression morph into embarrassed rage. She began throwing her lightning bolts at him in earnest.
Ron weaved and dodged- up, down, from side to side- using the destruction around him as cover to creep closer. He dropped his whole body down in a crouch, smirking at her. As he expected, another bolt fired at his position. Even more smoke and dust billowed up, concealing him. Electronique paid it no heed, shooting blindly at where she thought Ron was.
The older villainess kept firing in anger- her lack of focus totally unlike her usual cool, cocky self. It was all the fault of that blonde teen- who was, even now, taunting her with his damn smile. It was all because of their last meeting… the way he'd talked, stared at her, touched her- it made her feel odd. A different kind of electricity ran up her body, she shuddered in a way she hadn't in a very long time. After their first meeting Electronique had been furious and, dare she say it, embarrassed… as soon as she'd found the time to really think about what had happened.
It was the main reason why she was even in Middleton in the first place, instead of Go City. She'd been betting on the blonde showing up again, if only to protect his own stomping grounds. Electronique was ready to get some answers from the young man, even if she had to beat them out of him.
Electronique's world was suddenly turned upside down, feeling her back bend under the sudden pressure of someone's kick 'So, Kim Possible IS here after all!' she concluded, her body flying towards the floor. Electronique slammed into a fractured table, what was left of the furniture crumbling under her momentum.
Her lungs filled with the dust and smoke hugging the ground, leaving her coughing and hacking. Electronique readied herself, prepared to search for her second opponent as soon as the smoke dissipated. When it cleared, she noted that Kim Possible had hidden… all she could see was her blonde sidekick.
"Tag teaming me… I never would have thought that Team Possible was the same as those so-called heroes on Team Go…" the older woman hissed, scanning her surroundings again.
"Tag teaming you?" Ron parroted, one eyebrow raised. "Do you SEE anyone else here?" he challenged, smirking cruelly.
"Don't think I'll fall for your little trap a second time… I know Possible is hiding somewhere, just waiting for a chance to take me out…" Electronique glared at the boy, scowling fiercely as she got up.
"Is that so?" Ron sounded amused, chuckling slightly. "Well, I'll tell you what… why don't you come over here… and I'll show you EXACTLY where she's hiding…" His outstretched palm beckoned her closer, challenging Electronique, mocking her incessantly.
The villainess's blood boiled, as she recalled the last time she'd trusted his words. The fresh memory left her legs trembling. 'He'll pay for making me feel this way…' The woman rushed forward, caring nothing for the attack that would undoubtably come from behind her once more.
Fists raised as she approached her target, intending to pummel the boy in front of her until she felt better (and got her answers). Electronique's hands charged up with enough power to shock him at the slightest touch. She roared in anger, her fist rushing to his face and connecting.
"Oh… sounds like someone can't wait to get touchy feely with me…" Ron teased, his tone chipper.
'What?' Electronique quickly looked around, wondering if maybe Possible had done something to sap the charge from her or block the attack. That thought instantly evaporated upon realizing that her hands were still charged with electricity… and were currently held in the blonde's grip.
Ron smiled at her. "Well?" His grasp slid down to Electronique's wrists, he flung her to the side and she crashed into the wall. "Do you see Possible right now?"
The older villainess dropped to the floor, her body sluggish after the hit she'd taken. 'What the hell?!' She shook, trembling, struggling to hold herself up. She felt like she'd been hit by Hego of Team Go and his super-strength… not by a mere sidekick!
Electronique glanced up, already preparing to fling herself to the side and get some much-needed breathing room if a follow-up attack came… only to see the blonde standing in the same place as before.
"Take your time. We wouldn't want POSSIBLE to sneak up on you again… now would we?" he mocked. Ron examined his surroundings, not even bothering to look at her.
Electronique gritted her teeth, finally clambering to her feet and steeling herself. 'So, he's got a trick to stop my attacks from hitting him… not for long!' The gray-skinned woman rushed forward once more.
Ron still refused to glance her way, so very secure in his 'trick' to keep Electronique at bay.
'Let's see how confident you are after this!' she shouted in her mind, her whole body charging with power. She came at Ron with a kick aimed at his head… he dodged without any issue, the same annoying smirk upon his face.
Electronique followed up with a flurry of swats to his face and chest. All she needed was a glancing blow to shock Ron, weaken him, and win this little encounter… Sadly, that proved to be an impossible task to accomplish. He simply kept moving around, almost as if he was playing with her. After a few minutes of continuous running and attacking, her body started to slow down. Not only had she still failed to hit him, Electronique had wasted even more energy trying to do so.
All while Ron simply stared at her, a pitying smile on his face. "That's it? Out of steam already? I expected more from someone like you…" he teased, Electronique redoubling her efforts.
"Shut up!" she screamed, her swipe headed towards his face- only to miss again. She stumbled and fell to the floor, her opponent's amusement palpable.
"Don't beat yourself up over it… I'm used to women falling for-" Ron failed to notice her hands snapping out, pushing herself up. She kicked his side, Ron lashing out to grab her leg. "Ohh… so close… but still not enough." To his utter amazement, the woman suddenly rushed towards his face. Electronique leveraged the leg that was in his grip, wrapping her other leg around his midriff and coming face to face with the blonde teen.
"I win…" Electronique whispered, her smile triumphant. She released the power she'd charged up all over her body, the response instantaneous. She watched as Ron's body was hit by the electricity, shaking a few times in the iron grip of her powerful thighs.
After a few seconds the discharge stopped and she inspected her handiwork. He wasn't moving, but that much was expected with how much juice she'd pumped into him. Electronique only hoped she hadn't fried his brain, or made his heart stop… Ron still had a lot to pay for, after what he'd done to her.
She started to pry herself from him- the only problem being that her leg was still immobilized in his grip! 'Let go already… Did his muscles lock up, or something?' Before she was able to do anything, Ron's grip tightened on her leg. Her body was flung away, then slammed into the floor. A second later a hand wrapped around her neck, pinning her in place.
Electronique would have screamed, or at least coughed, if not for the hand pressing on her windpipe. It was almost impossible for her to breath, let alone talk. Her eyes opened wide in fear and shock, the same blonde that she'd attacked staring at her and obviously furious.
He gave Electronique a slight upward tug, her whole body now held aloft by said teen. Her hands scrabbled at Ron's grip, trying to desperately pry him off her without any success. It was like trying to shove a brick wall with her bare hands.
The young Stoppable simply stared at the older woman with a frown for a few seconds. Ron finally let go of her body, allowing her to drop to the ground. "Can't say I expected that…" he admitted airily, glancing away.
Electronique was barely listening, coughing and hacking loudly as she took in as much air as she could. Her body was still weak, trembling badly. Her eyes watched Ron's feet as he approached.
"I honestly didn't think you would be able to actually hit me… That's on me, for being overconfident… I'll have to watch out for that." Ron stared down at her critically, judging her with a silent gaze.
"H-How did y-you…" Electronique rasped out, massaging her sore neck.
"What… beat you?" The casual way he said it proved he hadn't taken her seriously from the get-go. "It may be hard for those colorful clowns from Team Go to do it… But, after our last meeting, well… Let's just say I had an eye-opening experience…" he growled, smirking cruelly.
"Our last…" Upon recalling the day Team Possible had gotten in her way, she remembered the blonde teen. He'd been running around like a headless chicken, screaming in fear, while being chased by the members of Team Go. Her eyes opened wide in horror, Ron's villainous smirk confirming her suspicions. "Y-You were hit by the Attitudinator…"
"Bingo… I knew you were smart…" the blonde praised, eyeing her weak form. "Now… what to do with you…"
Electronique swallowed hard, apprehensive over the way he was staring at her. She'd already figured out that he was stronger, and faster, than she was. On top of that, her electricity only seemed to annoy Ron- rather than hurt, or incapacitate, him.
He wouldn't hurt her, right? Really hurt her, that is… He was one of the good guys, like Kim Possible or Team Go. They didn't hurt, or kill, the people they fought. They send them to prison. But considering the casual way he'd beaten Electronique (almost strangling her), along with the fact he'd been hit with the Attitudinator… things looked very grim.
Was this it? Was she going to meet her end? Not reaching her goal of taking over Go City, or even a fierce battle to death against Team Go?
Electronique held her breath and closed her eyes, waiting for the blow that would end her…
…
After a few seconds of waiting she finally opened her eyes, looking at the sunny face of the blonde teen that was staring at her. A nice, handsome smile that looked completely different from the cruel smirk he'd had before.
"What do you say we call it even?" he asked, offering his hand to her.
"C-Call it even?" she parroted mindlessly. What the hell was he talking about?
"Yep! I'll overlook the fact that you claimed I needed Possible to help me… and you overlook the unfortunate thing that happened to you…" the young Stoppable explained, looking fairly pleased at his own words (and the apparent solution).
The older woman wisely chose not to question any part of that odd statement. If Ron was impervious to anything Electronique could do to him, it only made sense not to piss him off.
"Y-Yeah… e-even… sure…" She winced and grabbed his hand, still feeling the needles of pain radiating across her back from where he'd slammed her into the ground as Electronique was hoisted to her feet by the blonde.
"Good… To be honest, I was going to let you go anyway. You know, just tell everyone that you got away… After all, it was YOU who freed me from my past self" the young blonde elaborated.
'I caused this?' Electronique considered. While she could take credit for stealing and using the device initially, with all the resulting chaos it was difficult to keep track of who was hit.
"Now that that's out of the way, I have a little… job offer for you" Ron declared, letting go of her hand.
"What are you- wait… did you say a job?" Electronique questioned. She leaned back against the wall closest to her, the coolness of the material soothing her aching back, catching her breath.
"That's right…"
"What could you possible need from-"
"I was thinking of you working under me… as my henchwoman…" he explained, expression serious.
Electronique's eyes opened wide in shock, having surely heard one of the most insane proposals in history. "Working under YOU?! You must be joking-" Electronique fell silent immediately, Ron's gaze shutting her up in a hurry.
"I'm not… and I'd advise you to think VERY hard on it… You wouldn't want to miss out and… regret it later…" the blonde teen growled, watching her carefully.
Electronique recognized the message buried in his tone. 'Join me, or stand in my way…' He didn't say it, he didn't need to. Electronique had been approached by a number of villains that had tried to recruit her in the past. Offering her money, or a position of power, if she would but lend them her aid… They'd all learned pretty quickly that she was NOT a woman so easily bought, or the kind swayed by idle treats.
But the one in front of her… Ron Stoppable… he didn't promise her any of those things.
He didn't appear to be making idle threats either… Unfortunately, Ron looked fully prepared to act- if he felt the need to.
"What will you do… if I refuse?" she asked with an edge to her words, already expecting the worst.
"What will I do, you ask? Mmm… now that's a difficult question to answer…" The young man moved from his spot, ambling closer. "I mean… think about it from MY point of view. I'm putting a lot of faith in you with this offer. If I don't get the reaction I want, well… I'll be pretty annoyed, I'm afraid…"
"That… doesn't sounds like much of a choice…" she hissed, frustrated at already being on the backfoot.
"Really? I was about to let you leave, mull it over… really think it through, you know?" Ron moved closer, leaning against the wall next to her, his hand extended next to her body. "Just consider it… this really is a golden opportunity for you. I'll even let you have a shot at Team Go… and I was being honest, when I said all those things during our last meeting…"
The older woman glanced to the side, pondering his 'offer' …and the fact that she was feeling hot again. Electronique had experienced… difficulties dealing with that blasted team in the past, they always seemed to get the upper hand on her. "And if I still say no?" she asked, pointedly avoiding his gaze (it was much easier to talk when she didn't have to look at him).
"Then you had better stay out of my sight…".
X-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-X
A few hours later Ron was back in Middleton, returning from his little mission. As soon as he'd left the lab, he had called Wade. Ron explained that the culprit had managed to get away, making a smokescreen and escaping while Ron was unable to track her.
He'd told Wade that the culprit was in fact Electronique, and that she'd suddenly decided to change her usual stomping ground from Go City to Middleton. Ron's casual comment should prove to be an adequate justification for Electronique's future change in location.
Ron had just arrived home, smiling broadly. He'd gotten the chance to blow off some steam with a small mission, plus perhaps he had just recruited his first henchwoman. …and if she refused? Well, she'd been warned.
The home of the Stoppable family was as silent as it usually was. A trip, a business meeting, a vacation… it didn't matter. They would have just gotten in the way, making it more difficult for Ron to work.
His thoughts drifted to his next plan, a smirk sprouting up on Ron. "I can't wait to see his face-" he commented to no one, his thoughts cut off by a ringing doorbell.
Ron wondered if he should pretend to not be home, before ultimately deciding to answer. It was better to deal with issues as they popped up, to prevent them from hindering him in the future.
'I wonder who is it…' he mused, could it be Possible? Not likely, surely the redheaded girl would need substantially more time before she could face him again.
He opened the door slowly, mild surprise appearing on his face before it morphed into a knowing smirk.
"Well… look what have here" he mocked. "I wonder what people would think, if word got out that YOU came to visit ME…" The blonde teen looked up and down, eyeing the brunette girl standing in his doorway.
Bonnie Rockwaller was staring at her own feet, the girl eschewing her normal cheerleader outfit. Instead she was clad in a simple pair of jeans, along with a black short sleeved shirt. Hanging around her neck was a small, golden necklace that seemed to add to her charm.
The girl fidgeted in place, playing with her hands behind her back for a few seconds, before finally looking up at the blonde boy. "W-Well… here I am…" she stated softly, cowering under his intense gaze and predatory smirk.
"Yeah, you are… I wonder what you're doing here…" he remarked.
Bonnie looked up at him, still unsure of what she was doing. "Y-You told me to… at school…" she replied, her voice unusually weak.
"Did I now? Mmm… let me think…" Ron appeared to be contemplate something for a few seconds, enjoying Bonnie's obvious discomfort. "Fine… why don't you come in and we can 'talk' about it…" the blonde Stoppable offered, walking inside and leaving the door open for her.
Bonnie watched him a moment, before glancing around furtively. It was already fairly dark, surely nobody had seen her walk here. Finally, after a few seconds, the brunette teen took a deep breath. She walked inside, closing the door behind her.
…
A pair of eyes stared intensely, watching the cheerleader disappear inside the house, shock didn't even begin to describe what she'd just seen…
"What the hell is going on?!" they shouted, pulling out their phone and rushing away.
