Here we are, chapter two. I'm not going to be uploading super regularly, I'm posting this chapter so soon after the first because of what seems like a glitch in the system where my story isn't showing in the list of Wings of Fire stories. But other than that, I hope you all enjoy this chapter. I still hope I'm able to capture the original characters well enough, and give a interesting and engaging OC. My passion with this story is going strong, and I don't think i'll be slowing down any time soon, but I guess we'll see. Anyway, enjoy the second chapter.
I own nothing but my OC.

He yawned lightly as he uncurled his wings for the day, his tail flicking out, accidentally bashing a large crab and flinging it far off the island, landing with a faint splash. He groaned lightly. "Need to stop doing that to potential breakfast." He stretched lightly, before looking up at the sun overheard, glaring at the rising sphere. He also saw the dark clouds on the horizon over the sea. A storm was coming. He sighed, tracing a claw in the sand on the beach of his isolated home. "One day at a time. Take it one day at a time..." His ears picked up something faint, nowhere near close enough to hear the intelligible part, but enough to recognize the tone. Screaming... quite a lot actually. He turned his head to see if he could guess the direction it was coming fro-... oh. Queen scarlet's palace. Either that egomaniacal queen and her people are really excited about something, or she finally got a prisoner a bit too much for her to handle. But the truly concerning part was the flock of black dragons he could spot flying away from her palace, little dots in the sky, but he knew the movement patter well enough. Nightwings. What did they want after all these years of hiding?... no. Not his problem. He found it hard to remind himself of that over and over again. Like a part of him was telling him that would be the right thing to do... okay, yeah, a part of him was telling him just that, but it had gone so wrong every time...
He moved to the other side of his island, pulling one of his only worldly possessions out of the leather sack that was hidden under the sand. It was shaped like a board, but had two curves on the ends of the long sides of the board, several strings tied to both of the curves. He plucked at the instrument with the tips of his talons, the sound of it slowly helping him ignore the sounds. It was a curse, having such sharp hearing, but also a blessing, because only he could appreciate music on a level other dragons couldn't. He played and played, drowning himself in the music. It really was soothing. Until a extremely loud roll of thunder broke him out of his trance. He apparently lost track of time, the storm nearly right on top of him now. He sighed, buried the instrument again, then went to his sleeping hole. It wasn't much, but it would keep out some of the rain. He closed his eyes, trying to ignore the booming thunder until the storm passed.
On the edge of the mud kingdom.
Clay panted as he flew as hard as he could, his mudwing red and brown scales getting soaked in the pelting rain. It was so cold, like icicles stabbing in-between his scales. He was bulky, red and brown scales covering his body with a sort of flat snout, His brown eyes scanning for his friends as they left the mud kingdom, flying toward the kingdom of the sea. The first he saw was Tsunami, his bravest friend. She was a sea wing, sea and dark blue scales covering her body with phosphorescent scales that glowed with light, her wings flapping hard to go ahead of the others. He saw Glory next, The most sassy of their group, but no doubt the most beautiful. Her scales and wings were semi translucent, only a hint of the colors that her scales shifted through showing. Mostly green and a tint of red. He didn't see those colors on her very often, the green he's never seen before. At least, not this dark a shade. His gaze passed next to Starflight, the Nightwing had grown strangely quiet since they left the mud kingdom, his black and silver scales looking absolutely drenched. Clay strained his neck to look at his last friend, Sunny, who clung to his back, her golden yellow scales shining even more due to the rain drenching her, each flash of lightning reflecting off of her like a small beacon in the storm. She was a sand wing, but was very strange looking for one, mainly in that she was the smallest sandwing that their guardian, Kestral, had ever seen, and the fact that she was lacking the signature tail barb that all sandwings had.
He winced as he remembered the last thing Kestral said to them as they left. Their Skywing guardian had berated them for being foolish in saving her with her long thought lost daughter, Peril. Peril had freed them from the arena after Glory had hit Queen Scarlet's face with a venom that none of them had known about before. Kestral then said her goodbye, saying something about talking to a mountain dragon? He hadn't been paying close attention. The five of them had been headed out towards the kingdom of the sea when the storm hit, and they all regretted not finding shelter. It was raining so hard that they could barely see, and the wind was fighting them every step of the way.
Starflight was the first to turn to the others and shout "We need to find shelter! We'll be torn apart if we try to push forward!" Tsunami growled, a furious expression on her face. "Oh, well excuse me, fine leader! Where should we go!? We just left mud kingdom and Scarlet's soldiers are probably still after us!" Glory rolled her eyes. "Anywhere that isn't out here would be fantastic!" Clay groaned. They always got heated up like this. "Guys! Stop fighting! We should find somewhere safe until this crazy storm passes!" The three looked to him, before they all started to nod, Tsunami speaking out. "I think I saw a cove awhile back. We ca-" "CLAY!" Clay felt a icy chill go down his back... wait, that wasn't ice. It was talons.
"I'M SLIPPING!" Sunny cried out as the wind roared, catching under her wings as she was suddenly ripped off of Clay's back, the wind throwing the small sandwing into the storm. All four of them screamed. "SUNNY!" They all dove after her, trying to keep sight as the storm roared even louder, clay pushing his wings as hard as he could to try and catch one of his dearest friends before they were torn apart by the wind. He saw her in the next lightning strike, along with the Island she was only moments away from crashing into. He pushed himself beyond his limits, catching up to her in a burst of speed, wrapping his talons around sunny, then twisting so that she was shielded, putting himself between her and the ground. Throwing his wings out helped a little, but didn't stop him from crashing hard into the sand of the island, sliding up the beach, and colliding head first into a rock jutting out of the sand. It was smooth, thank the moons, but Clay could tell his vision was slowly fading, darkness slowly taking him as he faintly heard Sunny crying out his name.
"Clay! Clay wake up!" she shook his shoulder, but the big mudwing didn't even stir. He wasn't dead, she could see him breathing, but he was unconscious. Tsunami, Glory and Starflight landed on the beach next, all of them panting as they came up, seeing clay with his head against a rock that had a new crack split down the middle of it. Glory groaned. "I am not carrying him off this island." Tsunami growled. "Well, what else can we do!? We'll be flung into the air if we stay here." Starflight looked around, noticing a small alcove that a giant boulder had nestled into the back of, with a little bit more room underneath. "There! It's not much, but we need to lay low until this storm passes!" Tsunami grumbled, but helped Starflight drag Clay to the small relief from the storm.
Sunny looked out to the storm from their small little hovel, moving to clay as she cradled his head in her talons. "I hope clay is alright. that sounded like it hurt." Tsunami gave a small chortle. "You know Clay. It would take mountains to break his head. He's probably fine." Sunny couldn't help but give a small laugh, but nodded as she held her friend's head. "...I hope you're right." Starflight frowned as he looked up, unable to see the clouds. "... Let's try to get some sleep. We could be here awhile." He moved over to a place where he could get comfortable, Tsunami and Glory following suit, too tired to argue against that plan. Sunny gave another worried glance to Clay, before settling down next to the unconscious dragon, giving him the warmth of her sandwing scales, the other dragons moving to be closer to her other side to get some of the warmth as well. The other three fell asleep quickly, their shallow breath a small kindness in the raging storm.
Sunny gave a final worried look to clay, before settling down, lowering her head... only to blink as she thought she heard something. She swiveled her head, looking around. That sounded like a voice... a dragon voice. But then it was gone. she looked to the boulder behind them all, swearing that was the direction it came from. Wait, was that?... She rubbed her talons over her eyes. She could have sworn that a part of that boulder had... moved. She stared for what felt like a long time, but saw nothing else. She shook her head. "Must be my imagination." she laid down, finally letting sleep take her.
The storm roared for hours, what seemed like days, but when sunny opened her eyes next, it was... well, sunny. The sun was peaking over the horizon, casting it's intrusive rays into her eyes. She blinked a few times, getting up from her spot. Sand had gotten between her talons, and she shook them to clean them a little. The entire island was covered in a rainy residue, and littered with small crabs scuttling on the ground. She smiles, pouncing on one and eating it, causing others to scuttle away from her. A mumble came from behind her. She turned to see that Clay was mumbling in his sleep. "No... 5 cows.. and a hippo..." She stifled a giggle. Classic Clay. She moved over to the other three, shaking them awake.
The three of them blinked awake, sunny smiling as she shook herself. "Morning. the storms gone, and Clays dreaming about eating cows." Tsunami laughed. "That sounds like our Clay. Told you he'd be fine." She got up, Glory following suit as they looked around, seeing more of the crabs. "Well, guess we're hunting crabs for breakfast." Starflight opened his mouth to say something when Clay's eyes popped open. "Did someone say breakfast?" The four of them stared at him for a long minute, making Clay look confused. "... what?" Glory smirked. "Only you would wake up from a possible concussion to the word breakfast." Sunny smiled, before taking Clay's talons in hers. "Don't you ever scare me like that again." Clay smiled warmly. "Same to you. Feeling you slip off my back was awful." She smiled back, before they others stretched, Tsunami smiling. "Well, let's go catch some crabs!" She then gave a small yelp as a random crab had pinched the webbing of her talon. The others laughed, before joining in on pouncing to catch crabs.
Focus change: ?
He was having a bad time in his dream. Laughing and talking and movement. All of it irritated him. He tried to tune it out but the talking just would not stop, and then there was the laughter. By the moons, it had been so long since he heard laughter that it was borderline infuriating against the silence that he had become accustomed to. He internally sighed, figuring it was time to end this dream. Wait... why had the laughing not stopped?
He cracked one eye open, and to his horror, 5 dragonets were on his island, right in front of him, laughing and pouncing on crabs. He stayed very still, blinking a couple of times to make sure he wasn't hallucinating. Unfortunately, he wasn't. there really were 5 dragonets on his island. A mudwing, a Seawing, a Rainwing, a Nightwing, and a... weird looking sandwing. He debated with himself, if he should just wait until these 5 left him in peace, but then he realized he hadn't eaten yesterday, and his Stomach wasn't exactly subtle. If he didn't reveal himself, his stomach would be a dead giveaway soon. He gave an internal sigh, before starting to emerge.
Focus change: Dragonets
The 5 dragonets were laughing, playing a little game while catching the crabs... well, at least Sunny and Clay were. Starflight was sitting off to the side, Glory laying down on a flat rock nearby. Tsunami was fuming at the fact that she had still not caught and eaten the crab who had blatantly attacked her, the little creature always managing to scuttle out of her reach at the last moment. Clay was slow, but Sunny was able to heard some of the crabs to clay so he could catch them, their pinchers not strong enough to hurt his thick scales.
"URGH! Why cant I catch this stupid 6 legged fiend!?" Tsunami roared at the little crab, who scuttled away further toward the beach. Clay looked over to her. "Maybe you could ask nicely?" Tsunami rolled her eyes. "No! That little monster needs to pay for attacking me!" Starflight got a bit more comfortable. "I'm pretty sure it was just trying to defend itself. Crabs typically attempt a pinching attack on predators bigger than themselves to ward them off." Tsunami growled. "Nobody asked you!" Starflight frowned. "I'm just explaining facts." Tsunami frowned at him, opening her mouth when a voice came from the cave which they slept in, so deep that it caused the island to shudder. "Then explain a fact to me."
They all jolted, faces staring at the cave, as the boulder began to move. The outer layer seeming to break into pieces, but a closer look showed that it was actually scales parting away from each other as gigantic wings unfurled, a stone scale covered talon reaching out, thudding into the ground loudly. The shape seemed to unfurl and become larger, and larger, until a massive dragon, nearly 5 times as big as their guardian, Kestral, who was full grown, stepped out of the cave. He towered over all 5 of them, The black and red veins between his scales seeming to flow through his body, the blood red star like shapes in his black eyes seemed mesmerizing to them, and his wings looked like rivers blackened blood. The dragon gazed down at them, an annoyed expression on his face.
"Now... would you all care to explain why 5 dragonets are bumbling around on my island?"
There you have it. the dragonets have been thrown off their original course and encountered something they were never supposed to find. Again, i hope I'm able to capture the personalities of the original characters well enough to make this story enjoyable. I really want to make this story my main focus, and the fact that i actually have a general idea of an end goal this time is helping me push the words on this paper. Review if you'd like, i'm always looking to improve and take advice. Until next time.
