Our Middle

Chapter 10

Later on that night

(Remember when this rooftop was our hideout from the world. Mini golf. Predictions. Water balloon fights. Sometimes I miss that time. When it was us against the world.) Lucas admitted.

Haley stared back at him. (It's still that way. You're my best friend.)

(I know you're world has never been more full or eventful. But you aren't alone here.)

(Me and Nathan. Skills and mouth. We're the support system that won't change.) Haley reassured him.

(I want to be the dad to my kids that I didn't have. Keith made the blue print.)

(Do you think he would support what I'm trying to do?) Lucas asked.

(I have no doubt that he would be. Parents aren't perfect. They aren't going to need or expect anything from you but love support and understanding.)

(Knowing you will never not be there. And show up when they need you too.)

(Don't hide you're heart. The last time we were up here making predictions.)

(You wrote you would try again with Brooke.)

(What happened with that?) Haley questioned.

(I tried. She dumped me. She couldn't get over what had happened. Even though it didn't mean anything.) Lucas said.

(What about you're involvement with Peyton. You've never been a without emotional ties kind of guy. I was heartbroken. Peyton wanted me back.) Lucas explained.

(I love and care for Peyton. She's my first love.) Lucas confessed.

(What about Brooke?)

(I don't know if it's worth ever reopening that door. I think letting Brooke go is the only choice I have left. I fell in love with her but at this point.)

(I think our story as a couple needs to be over. It hurts too much.)

(Holding on to hope.) Lucas admitted.
