Into The Den;
Naomi was chatting with Asuna during the 6th period when Yuki summoned Naomi out of class. The professor dismissed her with tonight's schoolwork and Asuna promised she would get the rest of the day's assignments to her. She walked down the stairs and did her best to ignore the whispers and chatter from her classmates.
"You think she involved with the whole Akira Saito thing?"
"She's been called out a lot, hasn't she?"
"She wasn't in class yesterday either."
"Maybe she was giving a statement to the police?"
The professor clapped his hands getting all of the students' attention back to him. He continued his lecture and gestured to the large chalkboard.
Naomi stepped out into the hallway and Yuki closed the door behind her.
Naomi groaned, "What now?"
Yuki did her best to keep her composure. The younger girl was nothing like Zero, despite them sharing some personality traits. Zero at least liked Yuki; Naomi did not. Yuki was just relieved that Naomi was following her outside the academic building.
"It's not about Akira Saito," Yuki said, "We're going to the Moon Dorms."
Naomi stopped dead in her tracks, "You're kidding."
Yuki knew this was going to be difficult. She may not know Naomi, but her demeanor in the office that night was clear – Naomi had no intentions of ever meeting anyone in the Night Class.
"It's mandatory," Yuki grabbed Naomi's wrist and pulled her along the path, "The deal was if you're not a prefect then you must meet the Night Class."
It was a shitty deal, thought Naomi. Either way, she was going to meet the Night Class. The only difference was whether or not she was going to be holding back a hoard of Day Class students when she met them.
Naomi dug her heels into the ground, "I don't want to meet the stupid Night Class!"
Yuki at this point had Naomi in a choke-hold, "You have to; besides you broke school rules."
"Wouldn't be the first time," Naomi spat.
Yuki dragged her down the cobblestone path, "You're not going to meet the whole Night Class," she sighed, "just Kaname."
His name sounds familiar, Naomi thought. She dug her nails into Yuki's arm, "Who's that?"
"He's the Moon Dorms president," Yuki explained as she kept dragging Naomi toward Moon Dorm gates, "Making nice with him will smooth things over with everyone else in the Night Class."
We don't even have a dorm leader... just a class president, she thought, who is a pain in the ass.
Naomi slumped against Yuki's hold trying to stop the prefect from taking her to the Moon Dorms – to say she failed would be an understatement, damn, she's strong for a tiny thing. Well, that, and the fact that I refuse to exercise because I hate sweating; sweating is gross.
Naomi stopped resisting at this point, "Why?"
"Well..." Yuki trailed off, "because he's a pureblood."
Naomi shot her a quizzical look, "Huh?"
"Purebloods are 'pure'."
"No shit," Naomi pulled her head out of Yuki's loosened arm, "You're going to have to go into more detail because this isn't cutting it."
"They have no human bloodline. Most vampires have some amount of human blood while purebloods don't." Yuki explained, "It makes them elite and they're rare, not many are left."
"So, let me get this straight," Naomi started to smile, "he's like an extinct animal." She giggled.
Yuki glared at her, "Don't call Kaname an animal!"
Naomi laughed, "He's like one of those dodo birds!"
"Stop it, don't call him that!"
"Is he on one of those lists?" Naomi grinned, "Like for endangered species? I could call - I'm sure the Wildlife Conservation Association would love to know."
Yuki crossed her arms, "That's not funny."
Naomi rested her hand on her knees as she continued to laugh. "You seriously need to lighten up," she said out of breath.
"You won't be laughing when the Night Class hates you for talking about Kaname like that." Yuki's glare hardened, "Are you done?"
Naomi raised her hand while the other was still resting on her knee, "Wait," She wheezed, "give me a sec..." tried to regain her breath. Naomi stood up straight, "Alright, I'm done."
Naomi fanned herself with her hand, trying to calm herself down, "I'm hilarious."
Yuki's eye twitched but she said nothing. She had the feeling if she ever did get into a verbal argument with Naomi – she would definitely lose. "We're here," Her eyes widened, "Oh, and Zero being a vampire is a secret."
Naomi's mood shifted in an instant, "Why would it be a secret?"
Yuki's back straightened, "Because he's going to stay in the Day Class."
"What?!" Naomi yelled, "Did we witness different things that night?"
Yuki gave Naomi a serious look, "He doesn't want to be in the Night Class, and I don't want him to go to the Night Class either, so-"
Naomi cut her off, "Tough! Last I checked, vampires go to the Night Class and humans go to the Day Class."
"You don't understand!"
Naomi's eyes widened, "What is there to understand? Or did you forget that he literally attacked you!"
"I didn't forget!" Yuki was on the verge of tears, "He didn't want to be a vampire."
"And I didn't want to come here, but guess what, we don't always get what we want."
Yuki turned her gaze away from her, "Let's just go inside."
Naomi scoffed, "Are you serious right now?" She grabbed Yuki's shoulder and forced her to turn and face her, "He could've killed you that night."
Yuki brushed Naomi's hand off her shoulder, "No, he wouldn't have."
"Really," Naomi said, "because when I got there, he was still drinking your blood. What if I hadn't been there to push him off of you?"
Yuki shot, "I would've pushed him off."
"You could barely stand," Naomi shot back.
Yuki was right before, she couldn't win an argument against her; "Can we talk about this later?"
"People only say that when they know they've lost," said Naomi. She crossed her arms against her chest and leaned to look at Yuki in the eyes, "You know I'm right."
Yuki didn't look her in the eye when she opened the Moon Dorms double doors. The Moon Dorms were beautiful and elegant. Everything was spotless and while the Sun Dorms were clean – it was never this clean.
There's a chandelier here, thought Naomi. Talk about inequality. Her gaze drifted to the blonde boy and middle-aged men lounging on a couch she was sure was worth more than her.
"Aido?" Yuki said.
Aido shifted his gaze towards them. A wicked smile curled his lips.
Naomi knew that type of smile. She has worn it enough times to know that he was up to no good.
Aido stretched out of the couch and started to usher the men out the door, "Thank you so much for your time but I'm not interested in work in the daytime."
"But sir-?!" One last push from Aido and the men were gone.
Aido rubbed his eyes, "I'm so tired and it's all their fault."
Naomi rolled her eyes.
Aido smiled at Naomi, "And who's this? A fan?" His eyes twinkled with mischief.
Naomi scrunched her nose up in disgust, "You wish."
Aido's smile widened as he leaned in until their faces were inches apart, "Playing hard to get?"
Naomi didn't break eye contact from his icy blue eyes, "Not really." She pushed his head away from her with her hand, "Go away."
"We're sorry to disturb you, Aido." Yuki grabbed Naomi's shoulders, "But we're here to see Kaname."
Aido ran his hand through his hair. He was clearly upset that Naomi didn't give him any attention, so he wrapped his shoulder around Yuki instead. He grinned, "So, she's the one Kaname was telling us about?"
"Yeah, we're here to see him," Yuki said sweetly.
Aido slipped away from Yuki, "Is that so?" He put his hands behind his head and started to walk up the stairs, "This way then."
Naomi was eyeing the front doors debating whether or not she should leave. Yuki wasn't paying attention to her anymore, she could make a clean break of it and run back to class or back to the Sun Dorms.
Naomi grabbed the handle and was about to push, until Aido said, "Whose bite marks are those, Yuki?"
Naomi snapped her head in their direction, and she saw Aido holding a bandage between his finger, while Yuki was holding her neck.
So much for the secret, Naomi almost laughed.
Naomi put a hand on her hip, "Do you usually rip people's band-aids off or are you just some sort of creep?" Aido switched his attention to her. Good, she didn't need Yuki bleeding out on her again. She walked in front of Yuki, "And last I checked, it's none of your business."
"Ah," Aido hummed, "so you know who it is."
"It's been dealt with," Naomi stated.
"Kaname said the same thing," Aido said, "to 'forget about it'."
"You should listen to him."
Yuki's eyes softened, "Did he really say that?"
Aido glanced at Yuki and the candles blew out all around them.
The temperature dropped in the room. It was so cold Naomi could see her breath, what is happening?
"I've had enough." Aido gritted out, "I'm really irritated," he grabbed the railing and Naomi couldn't believe her eyes, it was covered in ice.
Naomi backed away as the ice started traveling toward her. No, not her – Yuki.
Aido jumped down the stairs and landed in front of Yuki, "Just what are you to Kaname, Yuki?"
Naomi tried to move and Yuki out of the way, but her feet were frozen to the floor, well, this isn't good.
"Kaname saved me from a crazy vampire ten years ago," Yuki shouted, "he is my savior!"
"Hmm, such a thing happened?" He gave her a toothy grin, "You should repay your savior with your blood. Yes, go offer yourself to him now and let him drink you dry."
Naomi glared at him, "That's the most idiotic rationalization I've ever heard in my life."
Aido tilted his head back at her, "And you're rude."
"You don't know the half of it," Naomi spat out.
Aido sent her foul scowl, "You're worse than rude."
"I can be worse."
Aido began to stalk his way toward Naomi, "I'd watch your tone." He grabbed her arms and ice started to envelop her.
He was close, so close.
"Aido stop!" Yuki yelled, "Leave her alone!"
He smirked, "What happened to that atti-"
Naomi spit in his eye. Some of the ice melted off of her arms enough for her to move her arms again. She raised her hand to slap him, but someone caught it before she could strike him.
Kaname gently grabbed Naomi's hand, "Stop, Naomi."
He literally appeared out of nowhere, Naomi thought, that's not normal.
He's a vampire, genius. Of course, it's not normal.
Kaname let go of her hand and stepped in front of her. One swift moment later, Kaname racked his hand across Aido's cheek.
Aido fell to his knees in an instant, "I'm sorry, Kaname." His head hung low, "I was being too impudent."
Whatever you do, do not call him a Dodo bird to his face.
Naomi stumbled back. The ice was gone, thank god. She glanced at Kaname and Yuki. He was caressing her, and Yuki was looking at him as if he was really her savior, this is a little weird for me.
Naomi shivered – shit, she was still cold.
"I'm sorry," Kaname said, "this was your first impression of us, Naomi. I promise you we are not like this."
Naomi's jaw clenched – he used her first name again.
"My name is Kaname Kuran," he introduced himself with grace, "It's great to officially meet you."
Naomi crossed her arms and ignored his introduction, "I think that's exactly how you all are." She walked towards the door, "Only pretending otherwise when it's convenient for you."
She grabbed the handle waiting for Yuki to join her.
Kaname sighed, "I do hope, I'll be able to change your mind." He ran his hand gently through Yuki's hair, "I'm sorry, Aido said things to upset you both." Kaname shifted his gentle gaze to Yuki, "You shouldn't go to dangerous places by yourself, Yuki." Then lowered to her neck where two puncture marks were prevalent, "Bring Zero with you next time. It's the least he can do."
Naomi felt the door be tugged on the other side, Zero.
"He's come for the both of you," Kaname said.
Naomi pushed past Zero, hitting him on the shoulder as she passed through him.
Kaname called her out one more time: "I hope to see more of you, Naomi."
Her nose scrunched up in distaste, I don't.
Naomi ignored him.
I need a nap, she rubbed her eyes, I haven't slept in twenty-four hours.
