Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 16 of Someone Like You. Thank you to those who have left reviews with this. It does mean a lot to me. I am trying my best when it comes to writing this story, or in this case re-writing it and hopefully it will look much better as I've written it. We are getting closer to the last chapter of this story. And hopefully I'll be able to start the next part of this book series soon enough once I finish up other books that I'm supposed to be working on. Without further ado Chapter 16. ENJOY!
Chapter 16
Elizabeth was thankful that they had been saved from the island. She and her older sister listened to what their father said before going on in attack mode. She knew that her father meant well, but leaving Will to die was something that she wasn't about to have happen. "But we've got to save Will!" She said, trying to plead her case with their father.
"NO! You're safe now. We will return to Port Royal immediately -– not go gallivanting after pirates." Their father snapped at the two of them. He was upset that Rose had gone off after Elizabeth in hopes to save her, but it caused more problems than just a little bit.
Rose winced looking down knowing that she went against her father's words by going after Elizabeth. She knew that there was a chance that there would be no way for her to find a suitor after this whole thing and that was even after everything with Beckett. She knew that James wouldn't want a woman who would willingly risk her own life for her sibling.
"Then we condemn him to death!" Elizabeth shouted frustrated at what her father was saying.
"The boy's fate is regrettable ... But then, so is his decision to engage in piracy." Their father said reluctantly knowing that the fate of the young man would be a dent in the community.
"To rescue me! To prevent anything from happening to me!"
James's eyes went wide wondering if there was another motive for him going after the pirates and taking Rose with him and the pirate that had threatened her. His heart leapt into his chest in worry. He could only hope that the pirate didn't do any harm to Rose.
Jack saw an opening and played Norrington. "If I may be so bold as to inject my professional opinion. The Pearl was listing near to scuppers after the battle. It's very unlikely she'll be
able to make good time. Think about it. The Black Pearl ... the last real pirate threat in the Caribbean, mate. How can you pass that up, right?" Jack questioned as he tried to get James to take the bait of what was being said. He was just hoping that the man was smart enough to take the bait. All he wanted was to get his ship back.
James looked over at Jack. "By remembering that I serve others, Mister Sparrow, not only myself." He said coolly, his eyes slightly narrowed at Jack.
"Commodore, I beg you - please do this ... for me. As a wedding gift." Elizabeth blurted out the whole thing of accepting the wedding proposal from James.
Rose's eyes went wide as her head sharply turned to her younger sister. "Lizzie what are you…" Her heart fell inside of her chest. Everything that Elizabeth had said on the island made her heart ache. The color drained from her face, unsure if Elizabeth had meant what she had said on the island or not.
Everyone was taken by surprise by what Elizabeth had said.
James looked at Elizabeth weighing her words before looking over at Rose. His cheeks flushing slightly in embarrassment. He hadn't expected Elizabeth to agree to his marriage proposal. He cleared his throat. "I see where your heart truly lies Elizabeth."
Rose's eyes went wide as she heard James's words.
"I release you from the proposal." His eyes went towards Rose. He cleared his throat causing the blonde haired woman to look up at him with wide blue eyes. "There is one thing that I should've known the day that I proposed to Elizabeth, that her heart lay elsewhere with Turner." He admitted softly talking loud enough for Governor Swann, Elizabeth, and Rose to hear. "Governor Swann."
Governor Swann looked over to James wondering what was going through this young man's mind.
"I wish to propose to your daughter, Rose."
Rose's eyes went wide at the thought. James really did want to marry her instead?
The Governor looked at his eldest daughter. "Do you accept the Commodore's proposal?" He questioned as he saw the shocked look on her face.
Rose swallowed the lump in her throat as she looked up into James's eyes. She took a shaky breath and slowly took James's hand. "I do." She said softly. "Only if he'll have me." Her heart pounded in her chest as James' hand gripped onto hers lightly squeezing it letting her know that he was alright with this development even though it was probably not what she had planned.
"A wedding! I love weddings! Drinks all around!" Jack looked over and saw the look on the Commodore's face. "I know. "Clap him in irons", right?" He questioned holding up his hands.
"Mister Sparrow. You will accompany these fine men to the helm and provide us with a bearing to Isla de Muerta. You will then spend the rest of the voyage contemplating all possible meanings of the phrase 'silent as the grave.' Do I make myself clear?"
"Inescapably clear," Jack said with a groan. He knew that he had no choice in the matter since he had threatened the future Mrs. Rose Norrington when he was trying to get free in Port Royal.
Murtogg and Mullroy escorted Jack away from them and towards the helm to get the directions to Isla de Muerta.

James crossed towards Rose who was talking with Elizabeth softly. He saw the look on his fiancee's face and knew that this was probably the right thing to do to please Rose and get into her good graces after making a mistake of proposing to her younger sister. Sometimes he wondered if his heart was thinking of marrying Elizabeth because Rose could easily be snatched up by someone else who was more worthy of her love than himself.
"Commodore, I must question the wisdom of this." The Governor questioned James softly.
"With all due respect, Governor …" He quickly checked himself before getting upset with Elizabeth and Rose's father. "Mr. Turner is a subject of the British crown, and therefore under
my protection." He said softly looking over at the Governor.
"Rightly so. Take care of her." The Governor said softly looking back at his daughters who were busy talking about something important.
James walked towards Rose and Elizabeth. "Rose…"
Rose looked at her sister and Elizabeth nodded her head moving away from her older sister to give them a moment alone.
"I find myself … worried that your answer is perhaps ... less than sincere." He said softly looking at her, his face showing the concern that he wished he never wore.
Rose looked up at James. "I would not give my word lightly." She said softly, her cheeks flushing some.
"I know. But is it wrong for me to wish for it to be given unconditionally?"
"It is not a condition. It is a request. Your answer would not change mine. You are a fine man ...
James." Rose said softly as her blue eyes locked with his green ones. "I find myself the one that's not worthy of you…"
James cleared his throat. "If it is about your engagement to Mr. Beckett…"
"I feared that you wouldn't want someone that was not willing to marry…"
"You didn't want to marry him for a reason."
"I stick by what I said… I just want you to help find Will and bring him home…"
James just for a brief moment, smiled into a wide boyish smile before his military bearing reasserted himself. "Well. Very well. Excellent." He offered his arm to her.
Rose looked over at Elizabeth who nodded her head before she slowly took James's arm. She slowly walked with him.
James looked at her with a soft look on his face. "Your sister is quite the little planner…" He mused softly as they walked.
Rose looked over at James, her brows furrowed. "What do you mean?"
"She never wanted to marry me, but knew what was best…" James admitted softly. "Her willingly agreeing to my proposal, I knew that she had eyes for another…"
Rose's cheeks flushed. "She thinks we'll make a fine pair…" Rose admitted softly. "She had told me countless times to begin with…" She tucked some hair behind her ear. "She means well."
James nodded his head slightly. "You have grown into a fine woman…" He admitted softly as he looked at her.
Rose looked over at him, her eyes locking with his. "And you are a fine man… any woman would accept your proposal…" She admitted to him softly.
James gave her a small smile. "You always did have a bright side of thinking of things." He mused softly. He had actually missed this side of Rose. He was thankful that Rose had agreed to his proposal. He knew that he had made the right choice.
Rose nodded her head shyly, her cheeks coloring in slight embarrassment. "I had to." She said softly, clearing her throat.
"I have to admit… you did a fine job helping your father with Elizabeth." He mused softly, his way of saying that he was proud of what she had done, even though he was very worried with what she had done.
Rose nodded her head shyly as she worried about her lower lip between her teeth. "Yes." She said shyly. "I was hoping that I would be able to help him raise her right after our mother had passed.
"You would make a wonderful mother." James admitted as he looked over at her.
Rose looked up at him blushing, dusting her cheeks. "You really think that?"
James gave her a boyish smile and nodded his head. "I do."
Rose nodded her head shyly. "You'd make a wonderful father… a doting one at that. You'd protect us."
James cleared his throat, nodding his head shyly.

James and Rose strided up to Elizabeth and Jack who were busy talking and the two of them stepped back.
James tossed Jack his compass. "With me, Sparrow."
Jack turned and gave Elizabeth a brief backwards glance and he followed James after he bid his fiancee Rose a good night.
Rose came over to her sister shyly biting her lip softly. "I know why you did what you did." She said softly to Elizabeth. "You wanted James to see his mistake of proposing to you." She rubbed her arms softly as she looked out to the ocean.
Elizabeth turned to her sister. "You and James… are the perfect match." Elizabeth said softly, putting her hand on Rose's shoulder, squeezing it lightly.
Rose looked down shyly, her cheeks flushing. "You wanted to save Will so you can also have that very happiness that you know James will give me…" She said softly.
Elizabeth nodded her head shyly. "It is."
Rose looked up at her sister. "I could never thank you enough for this… and I'm supposed to be the older sister protecting you from the dangers of the world. I have to say I wasn't fast enough to protect you from what had happened with the pirates…"
Elizabeth gave her sister a smile. "You're the best big sister that I could ever ask for."
Rose looked over at her sister. "You really think that."
"You helped raise me after my mother passed away… you always put things aside to help raise me, that was including your love of James…"
Rose cleared her throat softly. "I suppose I did do that."
"You didn't have to do that, but you did. You even forced father's hand in your engagement to Mr. Beckett will continue to care for me."
"I would do it again… I always will. You're my little sister, I'm willing to protect you no matter what."
