Ranma and the Talismans chapter 2
First of thank you all for the wonderful support. Next up I will admit I am saving Jackie for special appearances, but I can guarantee you that when he shows up he will have some awesome fight scenes, and there's a good reason for his absence. Also suspect a few cool fight scenes involving characters like Tohru, El Toro, Hak Foo, and a handful of others later on.
Reviews & replies:
Abhinav chhetri- I think the words above answer this question.
Spiderfan- that's part of the reason why I am saving the final decision for what girl ends up with Ranma for way later. This way I can balance out the pros and cons with each one in my story to find the best possible choice.
I would also not underestimate Nabiki's money making abilities. Sure she might not make enough to sustain the property, but she just needs to make enough that her father doesn't get swamped with debt. Sure he does have a spot on the Nerima board, but it's likely a low level position considering he doesn't want his theoretical political opponents getting wind of his past.
mad thought- no worries she's currently in last place in the fiancé race in this story.
AshelTDust- Both series use Magic and Marshall arts heavily, but are rarely used with each other in a crossover fanfic. That's part of the reason why I was inspired to do this story.
Plus, adding in Nabiki into the fiancé race is a good way to mix things up compared to other stories. What can I say I have recently read a few Ranma x Nabiki fanfics and they are surprisingly good.
djinn- thanks.
Perseus- I like that prank idea. All I will say is that the prank I have in mind requires Uncle's indirect help, or the talismans.
Phantom thief of harts- I have big plans for the vampire, book of ages and future jade. Plus, the lotus temple is hard to pass up considering it is one of my personal favorite one shot JCA episodes. However, those episodes are still long ways away, and I can't explain much about what I have planned for the book of ages and future jade, because of spoilers. Although, I will say that the vampire will be eating like a king.
I am definitely planning on using some anime and OVA only material later on in the story. However, don't expect me to adapt every Ranma ½ and Jackie Chan adventures episodes and chapters.
Abhinav chhetri- I was just trying to give her a name that reflects her brother. Soun is similar to sound and by extension hearing, and Site would represent another sense that begins with S. Then again wordplay is not my strong suit.
Disclaimer: I own none of these characters, Ranma 1/2 Is owned by Rumiko Takahashi and VIZ Communications. Jackie Chan Adventures is owned by Adelaide Productions, Sony Pictures, and probably Jackie Chan.
I recommend supporting the source material.
The walk to school and meeting the blue thunder.
There's a saying the early bird gets the worm. When the Tendo Family heard this phrase they took the phrase to heart. Kasumi normally wakes up before the sun rises preparing breakfast, with a smile on her face. The second two awaken is Akane who routinely goes for an early morning jog. This is quickly followed by Soun as the man is normally halfway through his morning paper by the time his youngest daughter returns.
Even the Tendo family guest were early birds. Because the rising of the sun in the east to Genma and Ranma means it's time for the two of them to spar together. Their traditional sparring match would then continue until Kasumi announced breakfast was ready. This particular one resulted in Ranma being nice and dry, and a soaking wet panda to be sitting by the table.
The only member of the Tendo family who wasn't an early bird was Nabiki. Although at least she can take some solace in the fact she wasn't the only one who likes to sleep in. Somehow the most adventure-seeking member of the household was about as much as an early morning person as her. Evident by the fact both of them were still in their pajamas. However, not even the allure of their beds could match the desire to have some of Kasumi's cooking.
Of course, Genma was the first one to reach for the food in front of him. Although before the panda could so much as grab a single piece of rice Kasumi, with surprising speed and strength stopped Genma in his tracks. Before saying, "I'm sorry, Mr. Saotome, but pandas don't eat people food. Here, I made you your very own special dish just in case." At that moment the oldest Tendo daughter pulled out a tray of fresh bamboo shoots in front of the human-turned-panda.
No one knew where the housemaker pulled out at least 30 pounds of bamboo from. Let alone where she managed to find it on such short notice. These facts didn't stop Genma from at least trying it. With a single bite, the part-time panda's eyes widened and he began to gorge himself on his special meal. The rest of the house occupants started to consume their meals shortly after this.
Ranma knew his father in panda form could eat human food with no problem, but if it meant not having to fight for every bite during a meal he would keep quiet for as long as he can.
"So where did you find so much bamboo?" Nabiki asked, staring at her older sister in shock.
With her usual smile, Kasumi replied, "a good chef must always prepare a perfect dish when needed". Nabiki looked like she wanted to continue her quandary but decided to give up on the matter when her stomach growled.
Ranma might have not been the biggest fan of staying at the Tendo House, but he couldn't complain about the food. Heck if Kasumi could make a type of grass taste good he could suspect a lot of A-grade meals in the future.
At that moment the heir to the Saotome school remembered there was one more important family member he was interested in. "So Jade have you talked to your Uncle yet about curing the curse". At that moment Genma stopped his gorging to pay closer attention to the conversation.
"Uncle said to give him a few weeks". The Panda quickly pulled out a sign that said [What?!] Luckily before Jade had to deal with an angry Kung Fu panda she gave her explanation.
"When it comes to magic Uncle likes to do research, or at the very least examine the magic in question firsthand before giving out his opinion. However, Uncle had recently lent out many of his books on Jusenkyo, so it will take him a while to do his research. On top of this, my other uncle Jackie recently asked Uncle for help on some big translations that will keep him occupied for quite a while. Under normal circumstances, Uncle would likely be here to help by the end of the day, but you guys caught him at the worst possible time".
Sighing in disappointment the two Saotomes then attempted to drown their sadness in what was left of their breakfast.
—-
Shortly after breakfast, Genma returned to human form to deliver some important news to his son.
"School?" Ranma said, neglecting to hide his annoyance. In a casual voice, Genma replied, "we are going to be staying here a while. It only makes sense."
"It's the same school Akane and I go to. We'll see you there!" Nabiki chirped, walking by the two Saotomes.
Akane quickly followed behind her older sister as she said. "Nabiki, wait! I'll go with you".
Dismissively the middle Tendo Child replied, "What are you talking about? Ranma's your fiancé, remember? You should walk him to school!"
At that moment Jade decided to chime in. "technically both of you are Ranma's fiancé, so by that logic shouldn't you both walk Ranma to school". The girls seemed to focus more on Jade's statement rather than the fact she appeared out of nowhere. Ranma knew his guard was downed, but the fact Jade managed to get right behind him
without him noticing is spooky. With just a glance at his father Ranma knew Genma had a similar opinion.
"By the way Nabiki can I carry your bag for you"? The middle Tendo sister simply smirked at this and handed her bag to Jade as the group began to leave the house.
The four were silent for the majority of their trip. Ranma decided to take the high road by walking on top of the river fence. Meanwhile, the girls were walking on the sidewalk. However, this silence was broken by Akane wanting to get some of her frustrations out, "just remember Ranma we are strangers, Ok. So don't hang around me at school".
Sneering Ranma said, "don't worry. I can't stand short-tempered macho chicks like you"?
Nabiki couldn't help but smirk when she asked, "So what about girls like me"?
Ranma in a neutral tone responded with, "I don't know a lot about you yet, but as long as you keep your hands to yourself when I am in my female form we will be getting along leagues better than your tomboy sister". Hearing this Nabiki slightly widen her eyes blinked a few times, and Akane in rage through her book bag at the gender-bending martial artist. However, the boy simply caught it and tossed it back at his spitfire fiancé.
However, looking down he saw Jade still walking beside them and asked, "Jade don't ya have to be getting to your own school or something"?
Jade responded with "yes, but Furinkan high is on the way, and my school starts a good 10 minutes after yours. Besides I don't want to miss the show".
"What does she mean by the show". Ranma asked in interest.
But Nabiki cryptically answered, "you just have to wait and see. Although I will say it will explain why my little sister hates boys".
It was Jade's turn to ask a question when she said, "So why are you walking on the fence".
Ranma in a chipper tone answered. "Training. The Saotome school likes to turn everything around us into an opportunity to improve our martial arts skills. So by simply walking up here, I can squeeze in a little bit of extra training time. Plus, the view up here is kind of nice".
The youngest of the four couldn't help but smile after hearing this. "So if I walked on top of that fence I might as well be extending my training sessions by a good 15 minutes a day"?
The pigtailed boy simply shrugged his shoulders and replied, "according to my pops, yes". With those words, Jade with surprising ease got on top of the fence and attempted to walk along it the same way as Ranma, but after a few steps, she quickly lost her balance and was about ready to fall into the river down below.
The world was suddenly in slow motion to the three of them as Jade was falling. With astonishing speed that even Ranma himself wasn't sure he could accomplish he grabbed onto Jade's shirt with his right hand and held onto the fence with his left. With a quick sigh of relief, the pigtailed martial artist somersaulted onto the other side of the fence with Jade held close; before gently putting the girl down. The girls were quickly running over to scold Jade for her actions, but Ranma spoke first in the gentlest but most worried tone he can. "Are you all right Jade?" The girl from Hong Kong simply replied, "I think so".
With those words spoken Ranma, pulled out the sternest voice he could, "Jade Chan what were you thinking?! It took me years of training before I was able to comfortably walk on a fence like that"! Taking a deep breath, he tries to calm down for the next few words. "If you promise to not do that again without my approval I'll train you how to keep your balance on any surface, deal". Jade Quickly excepted the deal and the quartet was on the way to school once again. Only this time Ranma was walking within arm's length of Jade to make sure she didn't get into any more trouble.
Nabiki subtly walked closer to Ranma and said, "thank you for saving Jade. Although I'm more shocked you managed to scold her like that. I didn't peg you like the big brother type."
Ranma rubbing the back of his head in embarrassment responded with, "I didn't know I had it in me myself. At least that would be the last accident we get into on our way to scho…" At that moment he, now she was splashed by an old lady watering her garden.
Holding up her now-wet loose pants Ranma said, "I am going home and taking a bath".
"But you'll be late for school," Akane countered.
"Think I want to start school as a girl? Ranma replied.
Nabiki was the next one to speak, "would it really be bad if you come to school as a girl?"
"Besides, you could use this as an opportunity to mess with uncle Genma", Jade chirped in. Ranma couldn't help but ponder this route for a few seconds after hearing that last part, but she quickly shook her head and dismissed the idea.
"I don't think it would work out. There's a decent chance I'll turn back in the showers if a single splash of hot water gets on me. Besides Akane would probably punch me all the way to China if I attempted to go into the girl's locker room".
Akane relieved that Ranma's mind wasn't in the gutter at that time decided to give him an out. "In that case, we just need to get you some hot water. Luckily there's a clinic just up ahead, I'm sure we could get some hot water there".
Nabiki in response said, "in that case, me and Jade will go on ahead. I have some business I want to do before school starts, and someone needs to make sure Jade doesn't get into any more trouble". Jade simply rubbed the back of her head in embarrassment before The two groups split up.

Dr. Tofu's Clinic
The clinic itself was part of a larger two-story building. Although Ranma had no idea if the building was the entire clinic or just the bottom floor. All the redhead could tell was that this place specialized in acupuncture, moxibustion, acupressure, and minor ailments/injuries based on the sign in front of the building. Ranma could also tell from just a glance inside the lobby the clinic was still a few minutes away from opening for the day.
"Akane are you sure it's all right for us to be in here?" I'm sure Ranma. Just wait there while I go grab some hot water". With those words said Akane disappeared from Ranma's site.
Alone Ranma thought to herself, "oh boy what a way to start the day. At this rate I'll be late". However, a strange-looking book sitting on the desk caught Ranma's eye. The title of the journal read "Uncle's 1001 uses for garlic". Before the pigtailed martial artist could take a closer look a bony hand reached out and grabbed the girl's shoulder. The pigtailed martial artist quickly turned around and saw a human skeleton.
The redhead quickly screamed and leaped on top of the door beside her. Taking a closer look Ranma saw a man behind the skeleton. This man had brown hair in a ponytail and was wearing glasses. In a high-pitched voice, this man attempted to do some ventriloquism with his skeleton, "Oh, pardon me!" Back in his normal voice, he attempted to reassure the frightened girl by saying, "there's nothing to worry about. This is just Betty, my skeleton."
Before Ranma could make heads or tails of the Man in front of her, Akane came around the corner with a steaming kettle. "Ranma here's your hot…" Akane immediately after seeing Tofu forgot what she was doing and became bashful. The black-haired girl then began to bow and placed the kettle on Ranma's head to make her bow as well. Right before saying, "Dr. Tofu! Um… good morning".
Tofu bowed as well to Akane and said, "good morning to you Akane. You haven't been by lately any new injuries".
Akane still bashful replied, "no sir. Um… I mean I haven't been doing anything that would hurt me".
Ranma didn't bother to tease Akane or get mad over the fact she put a tea kettle on her head. Because it only took a single look for the current female martial artist to realize Akane had a crush on the guy with the skeleton. Unless he has a rivalry or grudge against that person Ranma will let slide most crazy nervous behaviors because of love. No point in teasing them about that, when he constantly puts a foot in his mouth whenever thoughts of a girlfriend come into his mind.

Streets at 8:20 AM
Dark clouds began to appear overhead as the two anything-goes practitioners were sprinting down the streets. The two weren't worried about the rain because all their worries were focused on getting to school on time. However, this didn't stop Ranma from starting a quick conversation about Tofu.
"So does that guy study martial arts"?
Akane slightly out of breath replied, "how could you tell"?
"Sneaking up on me that way, I didn't even hear him coming".
Akane smiled as she confirmed Ranma's theory. "True he's a very strong martial artist. If the rumors are true dr. Tofu's master is said to be able to pull out miracles. Although Tofu certainly doesn't look it, does he? Ever since I was little whenever I get hurt, he would always make it better".
He noticed something was odd with the way Akane was talking about Tofu and asked, "so isn't he a guy? I thought you Hated men". Akane at that moment mood began to worsen. At the very least Ranma timed his question perfectly.
As they started approaching the school the youngest Tendo sister said "that's right, I hate boys"!
When they finally entered the gates of Furinkan high the sound of a stampede of wild buffalo began. A crowd of boys quickly emerged all wearing different outfits. Some had different sports equipment, and others were wearing distinct martial arts uniforms. However, regardless of which sport or martial arts they practiced each one was preparing to fight and were saying some variation of, "I love you Akane".
When the black-haired girl finally came close to the front of the pack of boys, the best way to describe it was like a snow plow driving through a centimeter of snow.
With a single punch, Akane was able to knock out any pursuer that got close. If a boy tries to stay out of range Akane used her school bag as a makeshift club to one-hit KO them. She even threw in some kicks to mix up her attacks. Even when the horde tried to dogpile the youngest Tendo she just knocked them all out in rapid succession.
However, these weren't just strong attacks each blow had a purpose in the grand scheme of the battle. Akane used her knocked-backed opponents to hit another adversary or two. Sometimes she would use her enemy in a judo throw as a makeshift weapon. She even attempted to brake weapons while punching out the boys, so the horde wouldn't be able to recycle any of their weapons for later in the fight.
Meanwhile, all Ranma could do was stare in complete shock. "what am I even looking at"?!
"That would be in Akane's words the hentai horde".
"Oh thank you for the explanation Jade. Jade?! What are you doing here?!"
Akane's cousin simply shrugged her shoulders and replied, "like I said I came to watch the show. It's rare to see someone pull one verse 50 and come out on top. Let alone every day consistently, and without any notable injuries".
Ranma couldn't help but whistle at this. This event had put Akane higher in terms of martial arts than Ranma had assumed, compared to yesterday. Sure by the looks of things, some of the boys were holding back a little or were more focused on asking Akane out on a date than actually fighting her. However, it only took a glance for anyone to realize a good 95% of the horde were notably physically fit, and that a decent number of them had some level of martial arts experience. He couldn't help but wonder if it was because of the seriousness of the situation, or if Akane was skilled at fighting a large number of opponents. Regardless of which one it is, Ranma will never admit Akane Tendo blew his expectations out of the water on that day.
Ranma and Jade weren't the only ones watching as a crowd of students also began to spectate the battle from each of their respective classrooms. One of these students just so happened to be Nabiki and she noticed the only two that weren't fighting and said, "Ranma and Jade quit your gawking and get to class. Better get moving or you're going to be late. It's ok she knows what she's doing. This happens every morning".
At that moment the horde of pursuers had finally been dealt with. Examining her work Akane said, "Honestly you would think that they would have all learned by now". Yet one remained, and he is the strongest, most persistent, and dumbest of Akane Tendo's admirers. With a single thrown rose to Akane, Takewaki Kuno made his presents known.
"Truly such a boorish lot. Each one of them fought for the privilege of your company, Akane. If they could manage to defeat you, that is. What fools these mortals be. Will you spar with me"?
This final challenger walked out from behind a tree. From the wooden sword in his hands to his outfit it was obvious this guy was part of the Kendo club. It was also presumed by Jade and Ranma this kendo practitioner had spent a great deal of time preparing that line while the rest of his love rivals were getting their bones turned to dust by their crush.
"Man you are sure popular with the guys around here". Ranma said stepping forward.
Annoyed the black-haired Tendo sister said to her fiancé, "stay out of the way, or you're going to get hurt". Jade couldn't help but eye roll at this statement.
Kuno noticed the newcomer and declared, "aren't you being awfully familiar with Akane"
Ranma asked the girl beside him, "Tell him Akane".
However, Akane simply whistled and said, "tell him what"?
Angered by the lack of an answer the Man with the wooden sword declared, "Who are you boor? Ah, but isn't it custom to give one's own name first! Fine then mine I shall give".
"I am the undefeated captain of this school's kendo club. The rising new star of the high school fencing world. My peers call me the blue thunder of Furinkan high." At that moment the man took a dramatic pause as the sky behind him lit up with lightning. "Tatewaki kuno, age 17".
Jade after hearing this simply shrugged her shoulders and said, "I see you change your title again. What was wrong with the shooting star".
Kuno at that moment finally noticed the kid next to Akane and in a far more casual voice said, "shooting star wasn't catching on liked I hoped. Besides someone as glorious as me has many magnificent and legendary titles".
Meanwhile, Ranma was left completely speechless by Kuno's theatrics and was left mumbling. In a way, only he could manage Ranma gave out the worst possible response. "Okay, I um… I'm staying at the Tendo practice hall…".
Kuno hearing this immediately swung his sword and shouted, "what?! you are staying under the same roof as Akane"! However, the teen effortlessly avoided the attack. With his martial arts instincts in action, Ranma was finally able to get a proper introduction.
"I'm Ranma Saotome heir to the Saotome School of anything-goes martial arts. I accept your challenge".
"I Upperclassman Kuno shall bring you to justice"! The 2 1/2 girls in the yard couldn't help but roll their eyes at this statement.
Ranma countered by saying, "so who is hounding a girl"?
His closest fiancé added, "He's just staying with us."
Jade chimed in last, "so you are going to attack any boy who is staying at the same property as my cousins"?
These words fell on deaf ears as Kuno just kept on swinging his bokken. However, Ranma just kept on dodging. The danger of Kuno slices became clear when he accidentally demolished a stone wall, but the pigtailed martial artist avoided the attack. Yet the force of the blow didn't even phase Ranma. The black-haired boy was eventually forced to leap onto the trunk of a nearby tree, but the swordsman not wanting to give his opponent a chance to continue evading his blows quickly struck again. However, the attack only hit the tree as Ranma evades it once again.
The anything-goes practitioner continued to avoid every single one of the upperclassman's attacks. Normally one will assume someone who is forced to dodge attacks would be making distance between them and the attacker, but Ranma just kept on closing the distance as if Kuno's assault were barely a factor until they were face to face. "Let me make one thing perfectly clear. You got the wrong idea about me and Akane. She means nothing to me. If you want a crazy violent chick go for it. Just leave me out of it"!
This caused the opposite reaction Ranma was hoping for. In anger, Akane called her house guest a "jerk" and through her book bag at him. Meanwhile, Kuno angry his opponent would insult the girl of his dreams began swinging his bokken with renewed vigor. Both attacks missed their target and resulted in the black-haired girl's book bag being split in two.
Leaping up into the air Ranma readied a finishing blow directly onto Kuno's forehead. Meanwhile, Kuno prepared a horizontal slash against the young Saotome. However, two unexpected things occurred at that moment. The first was that it began to downpour right when the entire school's attention was fixated solely on the fight. The second was a panda running at unbelievable speeds straight at the martial artist.
Right, when Ranma's transformation occurred she got enveloped by a giant black and white creature and disappeared somewhere into the school's property. All the while Kuno was knocked out by the very same animal. Leaving Akane, Jade, and the rest of the School confused about what occurred.
The only one happy about this outcome was Nabiki. No one ever bets on a Panda interrupting a fight during her last-minute betting pools. Not even that one weird guy wearing a panda shirt in the back of the classroom. Nabiki can at least say her new fiancé can at the very least make her wallet happy with his/her presents.

Gym equipment storage room
The currently female Ranma was trying to squeeze as much water out from her clothes as possible while venting to her father. "What was that about? Oh jeez if it hadn't rained I'd have nailed that clown with one…"
Her musings were cut off by the sound of a window opening and Jade and Akane climbing in. The older of the two interjected, "I wouldn't be so sure about that. Just look at your throat".
With that, the redhead took a closer look at her neck and noticed a bruise. Impressed Ranma couldn't help but say her thoughts out loud, "wow, and he didn't even touch me once, that's not bad".
Sarcastically Akane said, "if he had hit you'd be breathing through a hole in your neck. Looks like it was a pretty even match, wouldn't you say".
Jade piped up on her thoughts on the fight, "I wouldn't be so sure about that. I have seen Kuno fight at least two dozen times against you, and after only seeing Ranma fight twice I could tell our resident redhead was in complete control of the battle".
Smirking Ranma simply said, "sure there is a chance I could've lost, but she's probably right. I am pretty sure I left an even more embarrassing mark on Kuno".
Akane couldn't help but sigh at this and say, "regardless of who won the fight we are both late now".
These words barely bothered Ranma, but based on the way Jade's eyes widen she had enough worry for both of them. "if you two are late, then there's no way I can reach my school in time, unless". Jade Chan quickly developed a mischievous smirk as she looked at the panda. "Uncle Genma, do you mind caring me to school? In response, Ranma's father simply pulled out a sign that said, [do I look like a taxi]?
Nonchalantly Jade replied, "oh here I thought I was going to give my favorite uncle the location of Kasumi's secret cookie jar". Genma's opinion quickly switched as he flipped the sign over, and it read [climb aboard]. Not wanting to waste any more time the kid climbed onto the panda bear's back and said, "if anything else interesting happens calllllll mmmmmeeeee". Before Jade could even finish her sentence the two had sped off into the distance.

Evening at the Tendo House
"Why didn't you call me"?! An irritated Jade asked.
Her cousin simply shrugged her shoulders and said, "you were at school". The adventurous girl could only let out one of her trademarked "ah" in disappointment.
Apparently after Jade left, the fact Ranma and Akane were engaged, and that Ranma had two fiancés became public knowledge at the school. Kuno walked around with a misspelling of "buffoon" on his forehead, in the form of a bruise. Ranma once again fought Kuno, but this time in girl form knocked him unconscious and saved him from drowning.
After that Ranma started a rumor of a red-haired girl who lives in a tree and wore no pants. Finally, Ranma once again defeated Kuno.
Depressed Jade hearing about Akane and Ranma's day could only say, "here I thought I was going to have the most interesting day at school".
Hearing this Ranma couldn't help but point at his father and say, "does it have anything to do with that"? At that moment Genma in panda form was balancing on top of a ball while juggling fruit.
"With two minutes to spare Mr. Saotome manage to get me to school, but not before a large chunk of my class caught a glimpse of me with him. Let's just say I was the most popular kid at school for a little while. One of my classmates even commented that I should sign up 'my pet panda' for the pet show coming up. Knowing Uncle Genma could easily win I suggested it to him and offered to split the prize, 10 free tickets to any moose world of our choosing. Needless to say, he excepted".
At that moment Panda Genma ate the fruit he was juggling and made his way to a steaming kettle of water. Pouring it onto himself Ranma's father said, "come on boy we're heading to the dojo. You are going to train Jade".
Two "what's?!" can be heard after this statement. An excited one from Jade and a surprised one from his son. Soun was the next one to speak up. "I suppose it's about time. Akane we should tagalong.
Akane immediately asked, "what are you two planning"?
Genma could only smirk as he said, "We are moving to phase 2 of uniting the schools".
I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter, and thank you for all the support you all have given me.
Lastly, here's an interesting question what stuff should I write with Uncle's introduction chapter? In Soun's eyes, Uncle is someone who could take Jade away from them if he deems they are overall a bad influence on the girl. However, to someone like Ranma, he is someone who could help with the curse. What type of shenanigans will Uncle's visit cause?
