(A/N) To answer a question I've received regarding the Grimm Aura and Azure Grimoire. In the context of this story, the both of them are entirely different from each other. The full details are a MAOR SPOILER that I can't go into details about. The full details about the difference between the two will be revealed in time. But I can't do that right now since its too early.
Chapter 49 Steps of the fall
(Team RWBY's Dorm Room)
The past couple of hours has been nothing short of bizarre for Yang Xiao-Long. Everything was going smoothly for the start of the finals. Yang found herself fighting against Mercury and managed to win while hearing the cheers from the audience. Unfortunately, before she could bask in her well-earned victory. She found herself being attacked by Mercury and had to attack him in self-defense. Though what makes the moment bizarre, instead of the Atlus soldiers arresting Mercury for assault. It was her that was arrested instead. Making things worse, mere seconds after her arrest. She saw the video of her attacking Mercury while he was down. Making things worse is that millions of people saw what she did and aside from claiming self-defense with no proof. There was no way that she could prove that Mercury was in the wrong.
"I'm telling you General, he was the one who attacked me." Yang told General Ironwood in a pleading tone
"I'm sorry, but video footage and millions of viewers say otherwise." General Ironwood responded to Yang
"But there's no way that Yang would do that." Weiss told the General
"Yeah, there has to be an explanation to all of this. My sister would never attack someone like that for no good reason." Ruby told the General Defending her sister
"Listen, I know that . . . . ." General Ironwood said before him and team RWBY heard some noise from outside the room
"Your not supposed to be here." One of the soldiers said
"I SAID MOVE DAMN IT!" Ragna yelled before he forced open the door. When everyone looked at Ragna, they saw that he was clearly fuming with anger. When Ruby looked further, she saw that the soldiers that were standing guard outside were knocked to the side and Makoto was standing across the hall
"Ragna, what are you doing . . . ." General Ironwood was about to ask before Ragna cut him off
"You know damn well what I'm doing here General. If your going to question Yang, why not question the little bastard himself?" Ragna yelled at the General before Ironwood spoke up
"Mercury and his team returned to Haven so that he can be with his family. So until further notice, nobody will be able to question them." General Ironwood responded to Ragna while staying calm
"Then what about treating him here in Vale. You mean to tell me that you brought your army and can't even be bothered to have something for situations like this?" Ragna yelled at General Ironwood
"Listen Ragna, there are strict guidelines that has to be followed and . . . . ." General Ironwood said before Ragna cut him off again
"That's a massive load and you know it! Let me guess what your going to say, because the people drew their own conclusion your going to assume the worst. You of all people should know that the people don't know everything! Maybe Mercury provoked her or did something that caused him to get in her head! Do your damn job, look into this further and question the little bastard!" Ragna yelled further to General Ironwood before he lost his patience
"THAT'S ENOUGH RAGNA!" General Ironwood yelled to Ragna causing everyone nearby to flinch except for Ragna. After a quick second, the General calmed down and took a deep breath before he spoke further
"I understand that your angry and upset at the situation involving Yang. I was given a warning about how passionate you are with certain things. The staff here knows that she would never lash out like that under normal circumstances. But the sad truth is that my hands are tied. She's not arrested, but her and the rest of her team are disqualified. You have a match coming up soon Ragna, I suggest that you go and get some fresh air so you can have a clear mind for your match." General Ironwood explained to Ragna and everyone
"Listen you need to . . . ." Ragna started saying before Yang spoke up
"Ragna . . . . don't even bother, nothing can be done at this point." Yang told Ragna in a tone that is a mix of somber and depressed
"I'm sorry, but the decision is final. Good luck on your match Ragna." General Ironwood said before he left the room
"Do all of you believe me?" Yang asked in a depressed tone
"Of course, I know you're a hothead but not ruthless." Weiss told Yang
"Of course I believe you Yang." Ruby responded to Yang
"Do you really have to ask me that Yang?" Makoto answered
"I want to believe you Yang, but its hard for me to do so. To be honest, I can't say that its entirely impossible for you to act like that." Blake said in a somber tone which caused Ragna to get angry
"You want to believe her it's hard, do you have ANY idea how stupid that sounds?" Ragna responded angrily to Blake
"I have a good reason to feel the way I do Ragna." Blake responded angering Ragna even further
"Oh really, we gave you the benefit of the doubt after you kept several secrets from us. Like for example you being a Faunus and a former member of the White Fang. Give me some time and I can easily go on." Ragna stated causing Blake to stand up and talk in anger
"Like your one to talk Ragna. Your known for being one of the most violent and most disrespectful students here in Beacon. If you and Yang's situation was reversed, I wouldn't put it past you for a second." Blake angrily responded to Ragna
"You know what . . ." Ragna was about to respond before Makoto got between the two and separated them
"THAT'S ENOUGH YOU TWO! Listen Blake, I think you could have worded that a lot better. Because the way you said that, gives the impression that you don't trust Yang after all this time." Makoto told Blake before she turned to Ragna
"I know how you feel Ragna, but losing your temper at the drop of a hat won't do any good for anyone. I never thought I'd say this, but you need to keep a level head like Jin." Makoto told Ragna causing the both of them to turn away in regret
"Thanks Makoto." Ruby said to Makoto in a grateful tone
"I'm sorry, I should have worded that a lot better than I did. Its ust that I know from personal experience that people can change for the worse. I know that Yang wouldn't do anything like that. I'm sorry for implying otherwise." Blake said realizing her mistake
"I'm sorry too, I know for a fact you didn't do anything Blake. It's just that this situation is too messed up." Ragna said while trying to calm down
"Well look on the bright side, Yang isn't getting arrested and as long as you lay low for a while. I bet this situation will blow over in no time." Makoto told everyone in an optimistic tone
"Makoto, nobody is going to forget about this anytime soon." Yang said before she brought up her scroll and brought up several interviews
"I don't know what those professors are teaching that girl. But whatever it is, they need to set some standards." A person who is being interviewed said before Yang went to another news channel
"I can't believe that she would do something like that. Does Beacon have any standards for the students they teach?" Another person said before Yang went to a different channel
"The only kind of person who does that are either thugs or criminals. Should we really be comfortable with Beacon teaching kids like her." A third person who is being interviewed said about Yang before the channel was changed
"If she's being trained to be a Huntress, whose job is to protect people. Then I won't feel comfortable trusting my safety to someone like her." A fourth person said to the interviewer
"What was the Headmaster thinking letting someone like that into Beacon? What kind of example does that set for everyone who wants to be a Huntress." Another person said on the interview before Yang turned off her scroll and started to look depressed
"I didn't say it would be quick and easy, I'm just saying that you have to lay low for a while." Makoto said to Yang
"That's because they don't know anything. They didn't even bother to get your side of the story. Or better yet even question Mercury about anything." Ragna said in a furious tone
"Ragna, I appreciate you sticking up for me to the General. But everyone already came to their own conclusion." Yang told Ragna in a somber yet appreciative tone
"You have your own tournament match coming up soon. I know your mad about what happened with Yang. But there's nothing we can really do about it. So how about you give it your all and represent Beacon with Bang. Bring home the gold Ragna." Ruby told Ragna trying to bring back her optimism
"Fine, but that won't stop me from trying." Ragna said in a reluctant tone before he left the room.
"If there's anything I can do, just let me know." Makoto said before she left to catch up with Ragna to keep him out of trouble
"I'm going to just get some rest." Yang said before she started to lay down
"Yeah, let's leave her alone for a bit." Ruby said before her and her team left the room to give Yang some alone time
(Moments Later)
Jin caught wind of the events that happened as soon as everyone else did. Under most circumstances, he would easily chalk it up as an unwanted adrenaline rush. Or better yet, he would assume that its Yang being her hot-headed self. But the problem is that the match involved Mercury. Given that Ragna warned him not to trust Cinder, its to be expected that the same caution extends to her team. When Jin looked over the footage, he realized that everything that happened, even Mercury and his team leaving as soon as they did was too convenient. After parting ways with Pyrrha, Jin decided to look into the mater as much as he can. Because there were too many things regarding the situation that didn't seem right to him.
"Yang attacking Mercury the way she did. Also the way team CMSN disappearing so quickly and conveniently. Given everything that's happening, there's no way that this can be a coincidence. I have to investigate this while I still have the chance, before Cinder does whatever she's planning. Or worse, my brother acts on impulse and makes things worse." Jin thought to himself while he was looking around Beacon. As he was wandering around Beacon, he came across Tsubaki and has gotten her attention
"Is everything OK Jin, you look like your bothered about something?" Tsubaki asked in a concerned tone
"I'm . . . . fine Tsubaki, I'm just a bit tired from a lot of interviews regarding what happened." Jin told Tsubaki
"I understand, what Yang did to Mercury was utterly disgraceful. As students who are being trained to protect the people. We need to set an example to the one's were sworn to protect as well as to our fellow students." Tsubaki told Jin
"Tsubaki, I'm fully aware of the fact we're not exactly close to Yang. But from what we both know of her. Can you honestly say that she would be capable of lashing out like that?" Jin asked
"Its as you said Jin, I don't know Yang as much as your team does. So as someone whose visiting from Atlus, I can only work with the impressions I have. Though I did spoke to Makoto earlier and she assured me that there is no way Yang would act like that. I trust Makoto and from my impressions of Yang. I can see that even though she can be a hot-head, she's not a bad person." Tsubaki explained to Jin
"I understand Tsubaki, even Yang knows not to attack someone the way she did after the match. So there has to be more to it. But what makes this strange is that nobody is questioning Mercury. Given the circumstances its not entirely unusual for the injured party to want to be with his family. But all of the medics that's here in Vale and he would rather wait for treatment. Something about this seems off to me." Jin explained to Tsubaki
"Its as you said Jin, until the ones in charge of the tournament gets Mercury's side of the story. Nobody will really know anything about what's going on. Though to be perfectly honest, I'm surprised that the tournament hasn't been cancelled." Tsubaki told Jin
"What do you mean Tsubaki?" Jin asked in a curious tone
"I just find it strange how the tournament can go on like everything's normal. Especially when its so soon after the Grimm Breach. I do understand that a lot of businesses have invested a lot of money into the tournament. Not to mention that it's one of the few times of the year that the four Kingdoms comes together. But the security and stability of Vale is in question right now. Not to mention that because of the breach, a lot of people are on edge about what will happen next. I think that it would have been better for the tournament to be cancelled and just focus on the festival." Tsubaki explained her points and concerns to Jin
"I understand, the General seems to be confident in the strength of his army to be able to protect us. But if the breach was able to happen while they were here. Then what else could happen before we even have a chance to even stop it? Regardless As such, until we can get the full story. There's nothing anyone can even do about it." Jin told Tsubaki especially since he knows that there's no evidence to really connect her or her team to anything
"Before I forget, Jin would you like to spend some time with me after the tournament? Its been so long since we saw each other. I figured that it would be nice for us catch up. Besides, I want to hear all about your experience here in Beacon. Especially since I've heard about this Blonde Duo from Makoto." Tsubaki said before she chuckled
"I do admit that spending time with you after the tournament would be nice. But just because me and Jaune are friends. Doesn't mean we should refer to ourselves as the Blonde Duo." Jin told Tsubaki annoyed at the nickname
"Well, regardless of how you feel about the name. I'm still looking forward to us spending time with each other after the tournament." Tsubaki said in a happy tone
(Beacon Hallway)
After parting ways with Makoto and promising her that he wouldn't lash out at someone and will stay out of trouble. Ragna decided to investigate team CMSN's dorm room. Thanks to the lockpicking skills Jubei taught him. He was able to get into the dorm room without breaking down the door. When Ragna looked into their room, he saw nothing out of the ordinary. What makes things strange is that there were no personal belongings, nothing in the closet. It was as if team CMSN disappeared completely. After realizing that he couldn't find anything, Ragna decided to go and leave and try to explore so he could find something.
"That room was completely empty, I don't buy them leaving Vale. There has to be a hint about where they are somewhere around Beacon. There planning something involving the Maiden, but what does the tournament has to do with it?" Ragna thought to himself while he was walking through the Beacon Hallway. As Ragna was walking, he came across a familiar individual with red eyes and a large weapon. When Ragna looked at the person, he saw that it was Qrow, Ruby and Yang's uncle. The second that Qrow noticed Ragna, he uncrossed his arms and decided to speak to him.
"You know, its not often I come across people like you Ragna. If there were more students like you, I would never have quit teaching." Qrow told Ragna before he started to drink from his flask
"Thanks for the praise, now what are you doing here?" Ragna asked Qrow while trying to endure his frustration of the whole situation
"For starters, Yang told me how you stood up for her to the General. As an uncle, I gotta say that I'm grateful for you sticking up for my niece like that. But as a Huntsman, I have to tell you that its not a good look." Qrow told Ragna causing him to speak up
"Look, I believe Yang so if your going to lecture me then get it over with. I know that there's a lot more going on than most people think." Ragna told Qrow before he was cut off
"Then lets talk about what we know then Ragna. The only thing we know is that millions of people saw her attack helpless kid. So unless you have something that proves otherwise that can't be argued against. Then there's really nothing you can do, now is there?" Qrow told Ragna
"Well like I told Yang, it won't stop me from trying. I don't abandon the people I care about. Not this time, not again." Ragna said while uttering the last part
"Helping people huh, you know your passion to help Yang reminds me of someone I know. Though that was before she made a lot of bad decisions for herself." Qrow told Ragna before he was in quick thought about the certain someone
"This person wouldn't happen to be named Raven would it?" Ragna asked causing Qrow to give Ragna a brief but hidden surprise look.
"Now how did you come across that bit of information?" Qrow asked in a curious tone
"Because she met up with me before my doubles match. She wanted to extend an offer for me to join her tribe. She said the you're her brother and that I'd be a great addition to her family." Ragna told Qrow causing him to take another drink
"Damn, typical of her to try something like this." Qrow muttered before he spoke further to Ragna
"Listen Ragna, if Raven has come for you for something. Then its not something with your best interests at heart. Besides, she's the last person who should be playing the family card." Qrow told Ragna
"What do you mean?" Ragna sked in a curious tone
"The only reason that she went out of her way to recruit you. Is because she knows for a fact that your strong. I had a feeling that she saw me arguing with that Atlus Specialist. So its to be expected that she saw you fight her and managed to hold your own. As an extra bit of details, a few weeks ago she told me of a guy with a red coat, white hair, and large sword who was able to hold his own against the Mad Dog Azrael. She knows that your strong, and her recruiting you isn't what I'd call an enticing offer. The tribe, or as she'd call it our family. Are a bunch of killers and thieves," Qrow explained to Ragna
"I wasn't going to accept her offer anyway. Me becoming a bandit who does more harm than good. I couldn't bear the look on Sister Celica's face if I did that. Besides, what does this have to do with her use of the family card?" Ragna asked before Qrow spoke further
"She told you that I'm her brother right? Well did she say anything else aside from that?" Qrow asked Ragna while giving him a focused look
"No, can't say that she did." Ragna answered before Qrow spoke further
"Well something that you should know is that Raven. The woman who played the family card, is Yang's mother." Qrow told Ragna
"The same mother who abandoned her own daughter?" Ragna asked trying to hold back his anger
"Yep, the very same one. In fact, I came across Raven a while ago and wanted me to pass along a message to Yang. The message is that Raven saved her once. But she shouldn't expect that kindness again. Does that sound like the kind of woman who values family?" Qrow asked Ragna
"I suppose not, at least I'll know to ask why she abandoned her own daughter." Ragna told Qrow
"Listen Ragna, it might not look like it to you. But Raven is very dangerous, she has a view on the world that I don't particularly agree with. I can't stop you from interacting with her, but you do need to be smart with how you do it." Qrow said before he started to walk away. Before he went too far, he turned to Ragna and started to speak further
"Thanks for sticking up for my niece. I know what me and everyone else saw. But people turning on her and calling her a thug. It's reassuring to know that someone is on her side, nice to know she has a friend like you. Especially if you're willing to go and yell at the General for her." Qrow said to Ragna before he started to walk away
(Beacon Airship Docks)
"I'm sorry about everything that's happening with Yang. Are you sure that you still want to come with me to the Arena and watch me and Ragna fight in our matches? I'll perfectly understand if you want to stay behind and support your sister." Bang told Ruby
"Its fine Bang, I won't be able to do anything for Yang right now anyway. Besides you and Ragna are still our friends and if either of you win the tournament. Then not only will Beacon get a win, both team RWBY and JNPR will win by association." Ruby said in an optimistic tone
"Its nice to see the both of you are energetic after what happened. It's good that neither of you are letting all this negativity get you down." Amane said as he was approaching Ruby and Bang while accompanied with Velvet
"Hi Amane, hi Velvet." Ruby said greeting the two
"Amane, are you coming to the arena with us? The more friendly faces we have in the audience the better." Bang asked
"As much as I would very much like to enjoy the upcoming dance. I regretfully would have to decline. I'm here to see you two off. I ran into Velvet on my way here and we decided to come together." Amane answered
"I'm very sorry about what happened with Yang. It's just so sad that a lot of people are jumping to conclusions without knowing anything about her." Velvet told Ruby
"Its shameful is what it is. I do admit that it doesn't look good for Yang. But if the people just listen to both sides of the story. Then all of them would have a different opinion. Bullet had told the Professors repeatedly that Yang would never attack someone unprovoked like that." Bang said loudly
"I understand why your mad Bang. But the truth is, the people doesn't know Yang like we do. They just have to work with the little information they have and was enough for them. Besides, most people don't know what its like to have that adrenaline during a battle." Velvet told Bang and Ruby
"Well thank you for your support Velvet, it really means a lot. But you know, you should have seen how furious Ragna was with the General. You don't find many people willing to go in General Ironwood's face and yell at him." Ruby said shocking Bang and Velvet
"I know that Ragna and Yang are friends, but he has to keep a level head in situations like this. I'm surprised that the General didn't disqualify him." Velvet told Ruby
"I think that General Ironwood understood why Ragna was angry as he was. If his friend was being publicly humiliated, I doubt he would take it well." Amane said to everyone
"What will you be doing here Amane?" Ruby asked in a curious tone
"Well since Yang is going through a lot right now. I figured that I should stop later and try to cheer her up. I figured that Yang could be another person who could use a friendly face. Bullet and Tao already went on ahead to the arena so they can cheer on Bang for his match." Amane answered
"You said Yang is another person that could use a friendly face. Is there something else going on?" Bang asked in a curious tone
"It might be just me, but I've noticed that ever since the start of the finals. Pyrrha looks as if she's been bothered by something. She's too strong to let the first-round loss get to her. So it might be something recent. It's probably just nothing, but I want to stick around to make sure." Amane explained to everyone
"Well, thanks for sticking around Amane. A friendly face does go a long way at times like these." Ruby said in a grateful tone.
"Its no problem, now Bang don't let yourself be down by everything that's happened. Just stay calm, confident, and keep a level head and you'll do fine." Amane told Bang before he left the group to go back to Beacon, while Ruby, Bang, and Velvet boarded the airship
(Team RWBY's Dorm Room)
It has been roughly an hour since Qrow left Yang alone and told her that he came into contact with Raven. Making the moment she heard the news bittersweet is that Raven wanted Qrow to send a message and its that Raven won't save her again. Since she already saved her once. Adding to the bittersweet news is the set of circumstances that Yang has found herself in. Yang was certain without a doubt that Mercury was the one who attacked her.
The problem was that it was hard to argue against the video footage she saw. As well as the hundreds of people in the audience that saw her attack Mercury with their own eyes. Though it was very much reassuring that her friends and family had her back the entire time. It didn't change the fact that a lot of people are quick to bash Yang's name and call her all types of names. Yang isn't the kind of person to let something like this keep her down. But it still hurts her to know that a lot of people are turning their backs on her and abandoning her. An issue she has that originated from her mother abandoning her at such a young age. While Yang was deep in thought, she heard a knock at the door. Not having anything better to do, she decided to open it and when she did. She saw that it was Ragna who was at the door.
"Hey Yang, I didn't wanna bust the doors open again. So I figured that I should do the common thing and knock. I decided to see how your holding up from everything that happened." Ragna told Yang
"I'm doing alright, its just a lot to take in you know." Yang answered before she sat back down on her bed.
"Listen, I tried to look for any member of team CMSN and I couldn't find any of them. I even went as far as to go to their dorm room and I couldn't find anything. But I'm not giving up, if I keep searching maybe even ask some questions I'm sure I can . . . ." Ragna said before Yang started to cut him off
"Ragna, I'm sorry but there's nothing more you can do about this. You probably heard by now, but team RWBY is disqualified. I don't run away from a fight, but even I know that this is something that can't change." Yang told Ragna in a somber tone
"Well I'm not giving up Yang." Ragna told Yang in a bold and confident tone
"Ragna, its over, even if you find anything I doubt it'll be enough to get people to change their minds about me. I appreciate you trying, but the truth is that there's nothing more you can do." Yang told Ragna maintaining her earlier tone
"Its just infuriating that all this happened to you Yang. We both know that you would never attack someone like that." Ragna told Yang
"I know, but it is what it is. You know Ragna, I know that I wasn't in the wrong regarding Mercury. But it didn't change the fact that a lot of people have been condemning me for a few hours. But I'm taking things as calmly as possible. Yet your angrier about things than I am. Enough to even get in General Ironwood's face and yell at him. You wouldn't happen to know something about any of this would you?" Yang asked while giving Ragna a focused look
"I don't know anything Yang, its just strange that everybody is making a big deal about all of this at your expense. Yet nobody has the chance to question Mercury about anything. What makes things even stranger is that nobody has heard anything and I'm working with only rumors. Besides, I don't like to see people suffer if I can prevent it. You know what happened between me and Jin. After a couple of years, that moment was an eye opener for me and I decided that I would use my strength to prevent the suffering instead of being the one to cause it." Ragna told Yang
"I understand." Yang said before she stood up and approached Ragna. Once Yang got close to Ragna, she started to give him a hug.
"Thank you for having my back, but if you really want to support me. Then go to your tournament match and bring home the win." Yang told Ragna
"But Yang I can't just . . ." Ragna started to say before he was cut off
"Listen Ragna, I don't want to be the thing in your life that holds you back. I know that there will be other tournaments. But this is still your time and I won't be able to live with myself if you don't take this moment for yourself at my expense. We can't change what happened with me. But it doesn't change the fact that you can still go on. Now you just need to win for the both of us. Besides, I'm not getting expelled, so we'll have a chance to settle who's stronger between me and you later on in the school year." Yang told Ragna regaining her optimism
"Are you sure Yang?" Ragna asked in a curious and concerned tone
"Of course, I know how much you were looking forward to this tournament. Especially the chance at fighting Sol. So go out there and win for the both of us." Yang told Ragna
"Hehehe got it." Ragna proudly stated before he left the dorm room and decided to make his way to the airship dock. A few moments after Ragna went further away from the doors of team RWBY and JNPR. He decided to take a deep breath and clenched his fist in anger
"I'm sorry Yang, I'm so sorry for not being able to stop Cinder by now and prevent this." Ragna muttered to himself filled with guilt for lying to his friend
(The Amity Arena)
"Alright everybody, we apologize for that unfortunate incident from earlier. But now its time for the next match of the finals." Professor Port announced to a cheering audience
"Now who will be the ones to go up against each other in an incredible battle that will true testament to their skills, and strength?" Dr. Oobleck asked before the randomizer showed up. When a couple of seconds have passed, Bang's face showed up first
"Alright, Scruffy Leader is going to be fighting first!" Tao yelled in an excited tone
"I wonder who he's going to go up against?" Ruby asked in a curious tone
"Well whoever it is, won't stand a chance." Nora yelled in a confident tone
"Let's not jump the gun too early, he could be fighting a powerful student for all we know." Makoto said before the randomizer stopped and it showed who Bang will be fighting. The face that appeared is Zato
"The fighters have been decided, Bang Shishigami will be fighting against Zato!" Professor Port announced to a cheering audience, as the two were getting to the center of the arena
"This could be a good thing. from what I can tell, Zato's semblance basically gives him an extra fighter. When it comes to close quarters fighting, Bang is in his natural element. As long as Zato doesn't have any sneaky little surprises, Bang should have a good chance at winning this match." Kagura said to his team and nearby friends
"I Bang Shishigami look forward to our honorable match." Bang told Zato with enthusiasm. Once Zato nodded, he started to approach Bang and the two stood close to each other. Ready to make their move
"You may now, BEGIN!" Professor Port announced before Bang's and Zato's fist clashed with each other causing them to be knocked back
After the two were knocked back, Bang proceeded to throw his nails at Zato. While pursuing him to prevent him from summoning his shadowy figure. Zato however, was able to dodge each of the thrown nails easily. Before Bang got too close, Zato decided to grab some of the thrown nails. After grabbing the nails that Bang threw, Zato quickly threw them at Bang in a blinding speed. Reacting quickly, Bang was able to block the rethrown nails with his gauntlets.
Unfortunately for Bang, this is exactly what Zato wanted. Because Bang having to block the thrown nails, allowed Zato to get close and was able to land several quick jabs against the Beacon student. Bang was able to endure the attacks and a split second before Zato was able to land a punch. Bang blocked the punch with his gauntlet and once he did so, the stun functions were activated and Zato was stunned. While Zato was stunned, Bang proceeded to hit him with a series of quick attack jabs. When Zato made a move to counterattack, Bang quickly jumped back to avoid the hit. For a few seconds, Zato proceeded to continuously attack Bang. Only for each attack to be either blocked or avoided.
After Bang blocked a few more attacks, he made a move to kick Zato. Unfortunately, Zato was able to grab Bang's foot and threw Bang near the edge of the arena. Bang used his giant nail to anchor himself to the ground, but realized that there is now a considerable distance between him and Zato. The second Bang noticed this, he proceeded to rush to Zato in a quick speed.
"Eddy." Zato said before a shadow figure appeared before Zato
"This is now a two on one fight. Bang is much better suited for fights like these. But the problem is that we don't know what else Zato can do. The good news is that there's no environment for Zato to take advantage of." Baiken said while watching
"Your right, but that also works against Bang as well. Most Semblance has some form of weakness or limitations. Unless he figures out a way to make the fight against Zato and his shadow semblance much easier. Then he's not going to last very long in this fight." Tenjo told Baiken while in disguise
After Eddie was summoned, he disappeared and then instantly appeared in front of Bang. Once Eddy was close, he proceeded to rapidly punch Bang while Zato himself was getting closer. Fortunately, Bang managed to block the punches with his giant nail. But this didn't last too long until he noticed Zato was right behind him. Not wanting to take any chances, Bang used his giant nail to push Eddy away and proceeded to block a good amount of Zato's attacks. Unfortunately, Eddy was able to return to his earlier position and tried to attack Bang like before.
This time, Bang was prepared and proceeded to quickly block the attack onslaught from both Zato and Eddy. The ninja was able to stand his ground while blocking the relentless attacks. Unfortunately, this gave Bang little to no options in terms of counterattacks. Making things worse is that Bang knows that he can't keep this up forever and Zato knows this. As things stands, its only a matter of time before Bang's defenses break and he'll be in an even bigger position to lose. After enduring the attack assault for a few more seconds, Bang decided to use his giant nail to launch himself back to make distance.
"FU-RIN-KA-ZAN!" Bang yelled activating his semblance and started to run towards Zato and his semblance Eddy and proceeded to fight against them
This time Bang was able to hold his own and maintain the pressure on the two. Both Zato and Eddy made a move to attack whenever they could. But this time Bang was able to land several hits against the two. Bang's attacks were much faster than Zato expected and neither him or Eddy was unable to black many of them and were hit several times. After enduring a few more hits, Zato was knocked back a small distance while Eddy continued to endure Bang's attacks. After a few more seconds, Eddy was knocked back by a strong kick from Bang.
After getting kicked back, Eddy changed his hands to tendrils and tried to attack Bang with a strong whip attack. Fortunately, Bang was able to quickly dodge each of Eddy's tendril whip while getting closer to Eddy. Before Bang got close, Zato leaped over Eddy and stood in front of Bang and proceeded to attack him. Bang decided to quickly block the attack and was able to counterattack Zato with a strong kick. After Zato was knocked back, Bang continued his attack against Eddy and was able to knock him back. After Eddy was knocked back, Bang was able to quickly rush to Zato and was able to furiously attack him.
As expected, Zato was able to hold his own against Bang and managed to block a good number of attacks. Before Bang was able to keep the attack assault going, a shadow spire appeared between Zato and Bang and separated the both of them. After the two were separated, the spire took a humanoid form and turned back into Eddy.
"You've done well to last this long against me. But now your luck has run out. Eddy Merge!" Zato commanded before Eddy started to merge with Zato. A second after Eddy merge with Zato, a dark shadowy figure stood in the arena with wings. Bang didn't know what happened, but he realized that Zato has just gotten a lot stronger.
"It appears that Zato has merged with his semblance and gotten stronger. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a skill that not many people are able to utilize with their semblance. We are in for a real treat tonight." Dr. Oobleck announced to a cheering audience
After seeing Zato merge with Eddy, Bang realized that he couldn't risk Zato doing anything. So Bang decided to quickly rush to Zato in a blinding speed and managed to land a strong punch. Even though the attack was able to land, Zato wasn't even fazed and didn't even move. When Bang fully realized the difference in power, he was intimidated for a second. But didn't let it consume him and decided to run around Zato in his merged form to try to find an opening. Before Bang could do anything, Zato quickly moved forward in a blinding speed and managed to land a strong punch to Bang. Once the punch landed, Bang was launched into the air. Before he landed, Zato was able to attack Bang with an intensive punch assault. After the assault ended, Bang was launched to the edge of the arena. The good news is that Bang was not only in the arena but also has enough aura to stay in the fight. The bad news, is that Bang was unable to maintain his semblance and his FU-RIN-KA-ZAN wore off. Bang knew that he could reactivate it again, but he needed to think of a plan that would allow him to stand against Zato in his merged from.
"Fighting me with my semblance at this time has put you in a disadvantage. Eddy becomes significantly stronger within the darkness as well as my aura. Though you have done well to last this long, your finished. Forfeit the match and your injuries will not worsen." Zato told Bang while the ninja was able to stand up. As Bang was standing up, his giant nail started to glow.
"I Bang Shishigami will not surrender. A true warrior will stand their ground in the face of all challenges. If I forfeit now, then I'm not only giving up on myself, but also the people who believe in me." Bang said before he fully stood up and took a fighting stance
"FU-RIN-KA-ZAN!" Bang yelled activating his semblance once again. This time though, his giant nail started to have a brighter glow.
While Zato is confident in his improved strength thanks to him merging with his semblance. He knows from his experience that he's never to underestimate another person's strength or resolve. When Bang stood up, Zato proceeded to get closer to him and finish the fight in one attack. Zato in a blinding speed dashed to Bang and was able to stand before him and was about to deliver a decisive attack. Before the attack could reach Bang, the giant nail glowed much brighter and released a small explosion of energy that Zato was caught in. Zato was able to jump away from Bang before anything further could happen to him. Though when Zato looked at Bang further, he saw that Bang was getting stronger.
"I don't know how but my aura has gotten weaker. I need to be on my guard with him." Zato thought to himself while on guard.
"HYAAAAA!" Bang yelled while he was radiating energy from his semblance. As Bang was yelling, His Aura Weapon Phoenix Rettenjo started to glow much brighter and started to dissolve. The energy that the giant nail dissolved into has merged with Bang and its clear to both Zato and the audience that Bang is getting much stronger. After a few more seconds, Bang was enveloped in both yellow and red energy aura.
"Incredible, I don't know what is going on with Bang. But one thing is clear folks, something incredible is happening and we're in for an amazing showdown." Professor Port announced to the cheering audience
"Tenjo, do you know what's going on?" Baiken asked Tenjo in a low tone while she was in disguise
"Bang has started to call upon more of the power of Phoenix Rettenjo. In response the weapon has merged with Bang and is making him stronger. But there's a cost, the moment the enhancement stops, Bang's aura will break immediately, and it will take twice as long for him to recover. But Zato's, aura will gradually weaken over time." Tenjo explained to Baiken
"Looks like Bang is starting to use more power from his aura weapon. But I wonder if it'll be enough against Zato." Kagura thought to himself while watching the match
After Bang was filled with a strong surge of energy, he was able to quickly rush to Zato in a blinding speed and threw a punch. By a thread, Zato was able to match Bang's punch with his own and the fists of the two clashed against each other. After the collision, the both of them were knocked back. But the two rushed to each other and proceeded to clash attacks with their fists. Both of the fighters were able to attack each other at an intense speed and the two weren't backing down for a moment. After a few more seconds, Zato was able to land a punch against Bang and managed to knock him back a small distance. Though after he did so, Zato started to feel much more weakened.
"The strength of my aura is draining fast. This fight must be put to an end soon." Zato muttered before he went after Bang
Once Zato got close, Bang decided to focus on the strength of his aura. Once he did so, Bang caused a small explosion of energy and was able push back Zato. After he did so, Bang proceeded to attack Zato from many directions in a blinding speed. Bang was so fast, Zato was unable to defend or counterattack Bang's attacks and was forced to endure the assault. After enduring another attack, Bang was able to punch Zato across the arena and to the efge. When the both of them looked at the screen, they saw that the both of them were at 25% of their aura.
"This is the last move." Both Bang and Zato thought before they decided to generate as much strength as they could and charge at each other.
Once the two got close, the both of them were able to land a critical blow to each other and were sent back a good distance at the same time. After the both of them were knocked back, they stood up and struggled to move. Before either of them could do anything, Bang collapse to the ground exhausted and very much weakened. After Bang fell down, energy came out of Bang's body and materialized into his giant nail. When Zato looked at the screen, he saw that Bang's aura had went down to zero, while Zato was still in by a sliver.
"The winner of this intense match is Zato!" Professor Port announced to a cheering audience. While Bang's teammates and friends made it to the stage.
"I'm sorry everyone, I have fought as best as I could, and it wasn't enough." Bang said weakly
"Don't worry about it Bang, you gave it your all and you did great." Jaune said reassuring his friend
"Meow, you fought great Scruffy Leader. It was so cool to see you go all yelling meow." Tao said in an excited tone
"Well given who you were up against, I supposed you didn't do too badly. Just train harder and you'll do better next time. But overall, not bad Bang." Bullet said to Bang
"Wait, you guys aren't mad that I lost?" Bang asked in a slightly surprised tone
"It's like you said Bang, a thousand tournament losses will not affect our friendship. If anything, this will give us the motivation to train harder and get better. So that next time, we'll be on top." Nora said in a confident tone
"You fought splendidly Bang, you have nothing to be ashamed of. Words can't describe how proud of you I am. You and Kagura represented Beacon and Ronin-Gai wonderfully." Tenjo thought to herself
"Well for his first tournament outing, not bad. We're going to have a lot of work to do in terms of training. But I'll admit he did pretty good." Baiken told Tenjo while the two watched proud of what they saw
(Team RJNN's Dorm Room)
After speaking with Tsubaki, Jin found himself spending a lot of time in the room looking at various interviews to see if anyone saw something different. As he suspected, Jin couldn't find anyone that says they saw something different than what everyone else sees. Jin's research took up a great deal of his time and attention, which prevented him from keeping up with the tournament. But Jin has more pressing concerns that held a greater priority over the tournament. The reason is that not only is the safety of Vale at stake, but also him and Ragna's loved ones, Sister Celica and Saya.
Making the situation more dire, is that Pyrrha told him that Ozpin decided to have her inherit what's left of the Fall Maiden's power. To further add to the dire circumstances, the Headmaster and his inner circle is giving Pyrrha until after the Festival to make her decision. In addition, the inner circle knows only one thing about the threat and its that they made there move. Jin realizes that times is not on his side and he has to either find proof that Cinder is up to something or figure out what their plan is and how to stop it. Ragna participating in the tournament will be enough to get Cinder and her associate's attention on him. While Jin will be able to investigate in secret and with discretion.
"Damn it, I'm getting nowhere with the investigation. From what I was able to research, everybody is saying the same thing, that Yang assaulted Mercury and crippled him. But that doesn't make sense from a strategic viewpoint. Why would Cinder allow one of her teammates to be critically injured like that?" Jin thought to himself while watching various interviews.
"There must be a better way to look at this. There might be something about the Grimm Breach that I overlooked." Jin thought before he decided to look into the Grimm Breach and read various articles that didn't have any mention of him.
"I should have known that the Grimm Breach articles weren't going to be of any help. Roman and many of the White Fang members were on the scene and the eager Crime Boss took all the credit for the Breach. Besides, when Ragna confronted Cinder, it seems like she made no mention of the White Fang so we can't look into any possible connection." Jin thought while going over the various articles involving the Breach
"If we can't find any connection Cinder has to these events. Then Ozpin and his inner circle won't believe us and will be unable to do anything. I don't even want to think about what will happen if this is handled poorly. Not only our family is as good as dead, but if word spreads it will cause a panic and . . . . wait a second." Jin thought before he decided to look into the Grimm activity.
After he did so, he saw various news channels reporting the spike in Grimm activity. Jin decided to look into the Grimm activity reports further and noticed that there is a considerable increase in Grimm activity which a good number of them were not too far from Vale. When Jin noticed this, he decided to look into the history of the Grimm activity spike and there hasn't been a considerable spike in Grimm activity since the breach.
"Hmm, with the Grimm increasing their activity like this after the Breach. Then there's no way that nobody could have known this. Under most circumstances, a great deal of the Vytal Festival would have been restricted or at the very least delayed. So why is it things went on like normal, unless . . . . ." Jin thought before he remembered General Ironwood bringing his army to Vale
"That's right, the council must have decided to keep things going as schedule. Since the General brought his army then most people would believe that Vale was secured. Especially since it came from Atlus. So the next time the Grimm activity spiked is when . . ." Jin thought as he was looking into it and realized the next time the Grimm activity spiked is when Yang attacked Mercury
"Controversy during a major tournament is bad enough. But if its during something as important as the Vytal Tournament, then it would cause a fuss. Especially since tensions are already high after the Grimm Breach. Wait a second . . . with the Maiden already in Beacon, then that would mean. . . ." Jin muttered in a low tone before he thought about a lot of the major events that happened involving Roman, the White Fang, and Cinder. After thinking for a few moments, Jin came to a major realization, that's evident from the shocked look on his face.
"Damn it Cinder, so that's what your plan is!" Jin stated before he quickly ran out the library.
(Beacon Courtyard)
Jin has spent a good deal of time running to the airship docks trying to call someone on his scroll. Unfortunately, he couldn't get a call through and there was nobody nearby. Jin tried going to the Headmaster's office but knew that if he did. He would unintentionally lead Cinder and her allies to the Maiden. Which would put them in a position to get the rest of her power. The next best thing is to stop the tournament and since the General is at the arena right now. Then the stopping the tournament without causing a panic is much more possible. Especially since General Ironwood is part of Ozpin's inner circle.
"Damn it Ragna, you need to pick up your scroll. Time isn't on our side and you need to work with me." Jin thought while he was hurrying to the airship docks. After a few seconds, Jin heard a response.
"What's up bro, is everything alright?" Ragna said over the call
"Ragna you need to . . . hold on, what did you call me?" Jin said in a cautious tone
"I called you bro, is there something wrong? You know you can talk to me right?" Ragna said over the call
"I thought so." Jin said before he summoned his sword and froze a good portion of the ground. After he did so, Emerald jumped from a nearby tree.
"Not bad Hero of Vale, so what gave me away?" Emerald said in a mocking tone
"Ragna would never call me bro. Since you don't appear to be a hacker and was able to communicate with me. Its safe to say that your semblance is an illusion. So I would hazard a guess that it was you who got in Yang's head and made her attack Mercury." Jin stated while he drew his sword. Before Jin could attack, he heard a pair of hands clapping together. When Jin saw who was clapping, it was Cinder and she was accompanied by Mercury
"When I heard that you and Ragna are brothers. I had a feeling that he might've gone to you for help. Especially after my warning regarding the two he cares about. Looks like my suspicions were spot on. Though I do admit that I'm surprised that you figured things out." Cinder said before she started to conjure her flames
"Do you honestly think that the three of you can kill me?" Jin said while tightening his grip on his sword
"killing you will be a nice bonus, but that's not the objective. We just need to keep you busy and stop you from ruining the main event." Cinder said before she brought up her scroll and showed it to Jin. When Jin focused his look, he saw the tournament and realized that time isn't on his side.
(Amity Tournament)
"Now that we've all settled down from that intense match. Let's see who will be the next ones to fight in the tournament." Professor Port announced before the randomizer showed up. After a few seconds two faces appeared and the crowd went wild. The pictures was of Ragna and Sol
"Looks like the next combatants as well as the next fight is going to be a doozy everyone. Ragna the Bloodedge, will be fighting against Sol Badguy." Dr. Oobleck announced to a cheering audience while the two got on arena
"GO RAGNA!" Ruby cheered with a lot of enthusiasm
"YOU CAN DO IT RAGNA!" Saya cheered on as well
"WIN ONE FOR TEAM RJNN!" Makoto cheered further
As Ragna and Sol was getting on the arena, the both of them looked at each other with a great deal of excitement. Ragna was furious about the situation with Yang. But he also knew that she told him to enjoy the tournament and win for her sake as well. As expected, Ragna is truly motivated to fight and win in the Vytal Tournament. Especially since he's going to be fighting someone that he's been excited to fight since the beginning. Unbeknownst to Ragna, Sol is sharing in the anticipation and excitement as well.
"I had a feeling that the tournament would be interesting this year. Especially since I saw you in Goodhag's classroom." Sol said while he and Ragna was circling each other
"What can I say, I aim to impress. But you know, after fighting you in her class. I was excited at the chance to pick things up and I can honestly say that this will be worth the wait." Ragna responded excitedly
"I heard that you were angry about what happened to your friend and I honestly don't blame you. Do you think you can keep a level head in our fight?" Sol asked in a curious tone
"Don't worry about that, I'm really good at channeling my anger. So just think of it as an extra motivation for me to win." Ragna said in an excited tone
"So it looks I don't have to worry about you being distracted. Which means you won't have any excuses for when you lose." Sol said in a confident tone
"I see your confident, but don't get ahead of yourself. Especially since I'm not going to be holding back this time. Now let's pick up where we left off." Ragna said as he was grabbing his sword
"I see, but just so you know, I won't be holding back this time either. All this time you've been fighting the amateurs, but amateur hour is over. As of this moment, your up against a pro." Sol said while grabbing his sword as well
"You may both BEGIN!" Professor Port announced a split second before both Ragna and Sol clashed their swords with each other.
(A N)
For Ragna being angry about the situation with Yang, as far back as the first chapter. Yang was the first person that Ragna met and became friends with. Their bond of friendship deepened when they confided in each other about the personal parts of their past. Ragna's fallout with Jin and Yang looking for her mother. So when Yang was in trouble, Ragna had every right to be furious and seeing people go against Yang added to Ragna's anger.
As for Ragna keeping the details regarding Cinder a secret. One of the biggest problems is that he doesn't have any proof. Making the situation much worse is Cinder's threat to Sister Celica and Saya. If Ragna tells the wrong person and they handle it poorly, then Ragna's family is as good as dead. Even though Yang would believe him and try to help him, discretion is not one of Yang's and by extension team RWBY's strong suits. A good example of this is that after the events of the Grim Breach in the series. Cinder, Mercury, and Emerald knew full well that team RWBY had something to do with it. Which shows that team RWBY lacks discretion. To further add to this, both Yang and Ruby boasted to their uncle about having a role in Roman's capture. Which also shows another weakness that they have. The weakness is overconfidence and it can be used against them.
Ragna needed the help of someone who understood the situation and was able to use discretion. Since Jin is also family to Celica nd Saya and much smarter than Ragna. He would be the best choice for Ragna to get help from. If it was up to Ragna, he would have handled things his way, but as it was pointed out in an earlier chapter. He was very desperate and needed the help. Because Celica and Saya were Ragna's and by extension Jin's personal stake in the situation.
For Bang vs Zato
Under most circumstances, the fight would have been very close. Even to the point of a draw. But the things that were against Bang in the fight is that compared to Zato, Bang's skills weren't developed enough for him to be able to beat Zato.
Bang is able to hold his own in close quarters fighting. But the problem is that he went up against someone who's had much more experience in that specific fighting style. In this story, Zato is on his last year at the Shade Huntsman Academy. So its to be expected that he's had a lot more time to hone his skills and build on his experience.
Bang using Phoenix Rettenjou would have given Bang the boost he needed to win. But Bang isn't either skilled or experienced enough to properly wield its power, especially with its enhance ability. If Bang had at least six more months of training with Phoenix Rettenjou. Then he would have been skilled enough to properly utilize it for him to tip the scales. But a tournament is not the best place for a trial by fire.
Furthering Zato's strength, his semblance and his aura gets stronger during the nighttime. But the enhancement can only be triggered if Eddy is summoned. Zato can merge with Eddy at any time. But if he does so, his aura will drain at a faster rate. If Bang had more training time with his aura, skills, and Phoenix Rettenjo. Then he may have won the fight. But as he is right now in the story, Zato is the stronger one.
Phoenix Rettenjo is able to nullify energy. If the person's aura isn't nullified, then it will get weakened over time. But it ultimately depends on the strength of the person affected. It also has the ability to merge with its user and make them stronger. The drawback is that the user will be on a time limit when using the enhancement. The stronger the user, the greater the enhancement and time limit.
The drawbacks to Phoenix Rettenjo is that it won't differentiate between friend and foe. It only protects and strengthens its user. Secondly, once the time limit runs out after the user uses the enhance ability. The user's aura will break instantly, and it will take twice as long for the user's aura to fully recover. So it is important for Bang to get better with Phoenix Rettenjo.
So read and review
Thank you
