To answer a few questions I've received.
Trivia Vanille is Neo's real birth name. This has been confirmed in the RWBY novel Roman's Holiday. The reason for her name change is because of the events in the novel. The novel also explains how Neo and Roman met and established their bond. In the previous chapter, I added in some details that was confirmed in the novel. Like for example, Neo's real name and the Academy she went to that was confirmed in the Novel. Hazama knew Neo's real name and said it just to mess with her. Knowing that it would agitate her since she is still grieving for Roman.
I've noticed a lot of responses towards Yang in the previous chapter. I do know that she needs to cool down but there is a reason for it. It was already tense for her to meet her own mother that abandoned her when she was a baby. But there was no way she could keep it all together with both her mother and Ragna who hurt and lied to her. Especially since Ragna did indirectly play a role in the loss of her arm. Seeing two people who have hurt her greatly along with her abandonment issues was too much for Yang to deal with at once. She will cool off but it was too much too soon.
Chapter 77 Recruits
(Kuo Koana)
It has been a day since the press conference that Ghira called on in Menagerie. The conference was initially done to rally the Faunus to protect Haven Academy and prevent a repeat of the Fall of Beacon. Unfortunately, Adam's appearance had prevented the Belladonna's from not only rallying the Faunus of Menagerie. But also turned the Faunus against the Belladonna's. While there are still a good number of the Faunus that haven't sided with Adam or the White Fang. There are still a large number of Faunus that aren't convinced to side with the Belladonna's which is once again thanks to Adam. Which motivated, Blake, Sun, and Tao plan on going out to gather volunteers to defend Haven Academy.
Unfortunately, this proved to be much easier said than done. As the three Faunus set out to get volunteers. Each of them were given various forms of rejection. Blake went to various Faunus hoping they would sign up to be volunteers. Only to be given numerous forms of rejection. Sun and Tao didn't fare much better by comparison. Sun confidently went to several Faunus to convince them to sign up. Only to be completely ignored and left alone. While Tao decided to continue to get volunteers. At the moment, Sun and Blake decided to take a break.
"I can confidently say that trying to get volunteers is a lot harder than I thought. It's not like school where all the Professors had to do is say stuff like this is for a noble mission." Sun vented to Blake
"Things are different here Sun, the schools get a lot of support from the Kingdoms. But there is nobody that is supporting us. We're asking the Faunus here to put everything at risk for a School full of people that they don't know. Especially since we're doing this based on sketchy details." Blake explained to Sun
"Well it's still frustrating that nobody is jumping at the chance to do something about the White Fang. Especially since if the White Fang keeps this up, the Faunus will be persecuted because of what Adam is doing. This affects them too and a lot of people just don't give a damn." Sun vented to Blake
"I know its frustrating, but you need to keep in mind that we're hoping people will help us when they have no real motivation to do so. Other than the simple reason that it's the right thing to do. Especially since so many Faunus came to Menagerie to get away from it all, just like me." Blake told Sun before she continued
"Sun, you were right when you said that I came to Menagerie to run away. Especially since I've been leaving too many things with the White Fang unfinished." Blake told Sun
"But its clear that you're trying to change for the better. I mean nobody's perfect but your making progress on being better. I mean you welcomed me and Tao into your home. You didn't even give me problems for when I screwed up when you could have slapped me around." Sun told Blake
"You and Tao are at least trying to help me and watch my back. Besides, slapping you around when you didn't do anything wrong. Would have been nothing short of mean and mean spirited." Blake told Sun
"I just don't get it, how can so many Faunus just follow Adam knowing what he's done? Especially since so many members of the White Fang died during the Grimm Breach." Sun told Blake causing her to have a guilty look before she spoke up
"Sun, when you saw my family's home, what was the first thing that came to your mind?" Blake asked while she drank her tea
"Well I admit that I was surprised but that's just about it." Sun answered
"What makes it easy for the Faunus to follow someone like Adam is that he can easily relate to them. My father used to be the leader of the White Fang. But when he talked of peace with too little results. The members of the White Fang slowly stopped following him. Which includes me, something I'm ashamed to admit." Blake told Sun before she explained further
"The White Fang are a group of Faunus that want things to be better for the Faunus. So it is important for them to follow someone who not only can get them results. But also be someone they can relate too. Me and my family did go through some problems because we're Faunus. But our problems were not as drastic as most of the members of the White Fang. So with the Faunus seeing Adam's scar on his face, not to mention the White Fang's violent ways get results for the Faunus. It was easy for the Faunus of Menagerie to follow Adam." Blake explained to Sun
"I never thought of it that way." Sun said
"Making things ironic is that while the White Fang in Vale served Adam. They willingly worked with Roman who is a human and because me, and my team and friends failed to prevent the breach. A lot of people died, including many members of the White Fang. As for Adam's message about believing in a peaceful coexistence. I wanted to be judged for my actions. Though looking back at everything I've done, it seems like an idea I haven't really thought through as much as I should have." Blake explained before she continued
"When I left the White Fang, all I've done is hide and lie to people. When Velvet was being messed with in front of me because she's a Faunus. I did nothing while I defended the White Fang who has done much worse. Weiss's life was affected by what the White Fang has done. But instead of showing sympathy and comfort. I defended them and tried to justify it. When Jin rightfully criticized me and the White Fang, I angrily responded to him with rage. Especially since he ended up saving my life more than once. I wish I knew then what I know now, so I could stop myself from being so stupid and cowardly. Something needs to change and it starts here. Adam needs to be stopped and so does the White Fang. We don't have a lot of details but we have to prevent the White Fang from attacking Haven. Even if it means doing it alone." Blake explained to Sun
"Don't forget that you won't be doing it alone. I'll be there to have your back and I'm sure Tao will stand with you as well." Sun enthusiastically said causing Blake to have a sudden thought
"Now that you mention it, I wonder how Tao is doing?" Blake asked before they heard a yell
"Come on, I said I didn't want to sign up!" A Faunus yelled
"Meow, come on sign up and you get to beat up some bad guys." Tao loudly said to a Faunus she was chasing.
"Oh no, come on Tao their supposed to volunteer to sign." Blake quickly said as she got up to get Tao long with Sun
"That crazy cat should have stayed with the rest of her clan." The Faunus said before running off in a panic
"Tao, you can't pester people into signing up with us. They have to want to do it of their own free will." Blake told Tao
"But the chance to beat up bad guys is something that should excite everyone meow. So I had to get as many people as I can. If a lot of people sign up, then Tora will be so proud of meow." Tao enthusiastically said to the two
"I've always wondered about this, how do you know Tora Kaka? Is she a family member of yours?" Sun asked
"In a way she is, she's a member of the Kaka clan. As a matter of fact, she served as the guardian of my Village." Tao answered
"Wait, I don't get it, how is it that she has your last name and is not related to you?" Sun asked in a confused tone
"You don't know much about the Kaka clan, do you meow?" Tao asked Sun
"To be fair Tao, neither of us know much about you or the Kaka clan." Blake said defending Sun
"Oh yeah, I never did tell you guys about my clan aside from my teammates. Seems a bit strange that I haven't told you guys by now?" Tao told the two before she spoke further
"Well, the Kaka clan are a clan of Cat Faunus. What makes us stand out is that we tend to keep to ourselves. Most of us aren't related by blood but a lot of us have the same last name." Tao told the two
"Now that I think about, I remember overhearing you mention that your clan don't live near the Kingdoms. Is that true Tao?" Blake asked
"Yep, it's not because we've been treated badly meow. But its just how we prefer to live. We still have access to common things like Scrolls and toilets. But for the most part we tend to stay away from the Kingdoms meow." Tao briefly explained to the two
"I see, so that's how you know Tora, the both of you come from the same clan despite not being related." Blake said to Tao
"Yep, Tora was the protector of my Village when I was little. She played with me a lot when I was younger. She even taught me how to fight and convinced the Elder to let me go to Beacon. Now it's my turn to be a good protector for my Village meow." Tao enthusiastically explained
"Wow, that is so cool, to have someone train and believe in you Tao." Sun said in an impressed tone
"Meow, all that work, and talk has made me really hungry. Let's get some food in us meow." Tao excitedly said before she ran off
"It's kind of admirable, for as long as I've known Tao. She's always in good spirits and doesn't let anything get her down. Kind of like Makoto now that I think about it." Sun said in an impressed tone
"Yeah, though we do need a lot of energy to keep her out of trouble. Let's catch up too her." Blake said before she went after Tao with Sun following her
(The House)
Qrow spent several hours looking for Huntsman and Huntresses that will help with the retrieval of the Spring Maiden from his sister. Though every attempt ended in failure, because every single person was unavailable. It was expected to some extent that he wouldn't be able to reach some of them. But it was odd how all of them were unavailable. With a good number of them being MIA. From Qrow's years of experience, this is either the strangest of coincidences or there is something sinister behind all of this. Having to return to the house with no new recruits and to explain to Ozpin the situation gives the veteran Huntsman a very unsettling feeling. As he entered the house, Qrow noticed a commotion and as he went further in the house. He was able to learn what is going on.
"You actually managed to find a Murakumo Lab?!" Nora asked
"Yes Nora, and the experience was honestly unsettling." Jaune responded while on the couch with Ozpin nearby taking control
"What's this I'm hearing about a Murakumo Lab?" Qrow asked as he entered the living room
"That mission you approved for both Jaune and Lambda to participate in led them to a Murakumo Lab uncle Qrow." Ruby told Qrow that surprised the Veteran Huntsman before Ozpin spoke up
"Jaune, why don't you tell us again how you and Lambda came across a Murakumo Lab? I understand that seeing the lab is quite traumatic, but it is important to understand the details for future reference." Ozpin told Jaune
"It's like I said earlier, me and Lambda were in the sewer system looking for a creature that was attacking people. We asked around and learned that it was in the sewers and we decided to go after it. As we were looking for it, we came across a trail and followed which led us to the lab. That is when we encountered the creature." Jaune explained to everyone
"You said a creature, can you describe the kind of Grimm it is?" Qrow asked
"It does have a mask but it doesn't seem like any Grimm I've ever seen before. It's just a black blob that was able to summon and control insects. When those insects touched us, our aura was drained and it can use energy blasts. Me and Lambda fought it off but we barely survived against it." Jaune said causing Ruby to have a shocked look on her face
"Is it hard to understand it when it talks because it sounds like a jumbled mess?" Ruby asked
"Yeah, it tried to talk a couple of times but I couldn't understand it." Jaune answered
"I remember that thing, from a few months ago. But I didn't think it would be here." Ruby said voicing her shock at Arakune's return
"Professor, I know that strange creature is something we can't ignore. But from what we were told of the Murakumo Labs. This is something that can't be ignored. So what will the Council do about the lab?" Jaune asked causing both Ozpin and Qrow to have a regretful look on their faces. Before anyone could question the look, Qrow spoke up
"I hate to say it, but if my hunch is right and it normally is about these things. The Council will likely keep quiet about this. Since this is something that's not known to the public, the Council will want to keep it that way." Qrow told Jaune which shocked him
"You can't be serious, there are corpses in that lab. Monstrous things were done in that lab. More has to be done so the people that did this won't be able to get away with this." Jaune stated angrily to Qrow
"Jaune, you must understand that the existence of the Labs can't be known to the public. Can you imagine how the public will respond if they learned about the Murakumo Labs right in this very Kingdom? Distrust will be spread throughout the Mistral and since we don't know anything about the Murakumo Labs. Nothing will really be done in the grand scheme of things. Especially since we don't know who works in those labs." Ozpin told Jaune
Jaune hated to admit it, but Ozpin and Qrow are right. It was hard enough for Jaune to know about the Murakumo Labs. But for him to experience them in person is another kind of horror entirely. Especially since he doesn't know who to go to with what he knows about Lambda and Kokonoe. If Jaune tells the wrong person, then he could unintentionally turn the group against Lambda. Which is the last thing they need given the current circumstances. Yet at the same time, he can't keep this a secret forever and he feels like he's in over his head.
Telling Jin is an option, but there is a very likely chance that he will show no sympathy and see her as nothing but a potential threat. Even though he is willing to give Jaune a chance despite cheating into Beacon. The situation with Lambda is completely different and will most likely bring a different outcome. Telling someone that Relius is the progenitor of the Murakumo Labs is essential. But it will lead to more questions and will endanger Lambda. It is moments like these he wished Pyrrha was here to give him advice. But this reminded Jaune that Pyrrha was killed by Terumi and the burden she was expected to bear. All under his nose, which reminded him of everything Kokonoe said to him and made him realize that he needs to get stronger himself.
"I'm going to go, I'll be back later tonight." Jaune said before he left
"Will he be alright?" Ruby asked in a concerned tone
"I'm sure Jaune just needs some time to cool off. Being in those labs will be traumatic for anyone." Ren said
"Before I forget, how did the recruitment go?" Ozpin asked Qrow
"It went bad, I'll give you more details later. Preferably in private, how did training go while I was gone?" Qrow asked before he took a drink
"Some of the people here took to my training and instructions rather well. Even Oscar has made significant progress." Ozpin told Qrow
"Yeah, though I still say that Ruby got that lucky punch in." Oscar told Ozpin internally
"Though the progress on their training with Jin . . . leaves a few things to be desired." Ozpin told Qrow
"Hey, it's not our fault that training with Jin is a nightmare. He runs us ragged and gives us little to no breathing room." Nora stated
"It couldn't be that bad." Qrow responded
"The training is rough, but his attitude makes him intolerable." Bullet responded
"Come on everyone, I know that Jin is admittedly a bit difficult. But we can't disregard the skills he has. He's the only one here who is exceptionally skilled with his Nox Nyctores. Therefore learning all that we can will be essential for us in the long-run. Especially if we fight other users of the Nox Nyctores." Bang said defending Jin
"So does that mean we need to put up with his constant put downs. Don't forget, he said clearly that he thinks your giant nail. Which is a Nox Nyctores just like his sword and it has the power to nullify our aura." Bullet angrily stated before Qrow took a deep breath
"Where is Jin now?" Qrow asked
"He's training by himself, when he saw that we were getting tired of his crap. We decided to just call it quits for the day." Nora answered
"Uncle Qrow, since your back you can help train us. Since there is still a lot of us and when more help comes. We won't be so overwhelmed and it'll make things easier for Professor Ozpin and Jin." Ruby suggested
"I'm not the best teacher out there pipsqueak. Training you is one thing, but a lot of people at once. Like I told Leo, I gave up teaching for a reason. But I'll talk to Jin about his approach. Like Bang said, we can't deny his skill and he can help us come a long way with getting stronger." Qrow said as he took another drink
"I'm going to go outside, fresh air does the soul good and clears the mind." Bang said before he stepped outside
"I could use some help preparing some food for tonight." Ren said before Nora rushed to him
"With me dutifully helping the incredible Ren with prep. Especially since Ren is such an amazing cook, I just have to help out. Nora excitedly said
"While Ruby will help me in the kitchen as well Nora. Since there is no harm with another pair of hands. Especially since the extra pair of hands will stop Nora from having snacks during kitchen prep." Ren said causing Nora to pout before her, Ren, and Ruby went to the kitchen
"I'm going to go train with Lambda, I need to do something productive with my time." Bullet said before she left leaving Qrow and Ozpin alone in the living room
"Well with everyone gone this seems like a good time for you to tell me how things went with your recruitment." Ozpin said before Qrow started to talk about what happened for the past few hours
(Raven's tent)
There was a tense air within the Raven's tent and the reason is obvious to everyone inside. It is clear that there is still a great deal of tension between Ragna and Yang. Even though Weiss and Makoto are standing between the two to make sure they don't fight each other again. Ragna is determined to get to Haven with a chance to get his revenge. While Yang is still enraged at Ragna and is determined to protect Ruby from him and not be hurt again. Another source of tension is Raven herself due to the situation between her and Yang. The group agreed to go into the tent so Raven could explain to everyone why they shouldn't bother with Ozpin's mission. Whether or not the group will listen to her depends on how this meeting goes. Though Raven hopes that Yang will listen to her and stay with the tribe. She really wants Ragna to stay and join the tribe. Due to how much he can benefit from her guidance and what he can bring to the tribe. Currently, they are in the tent while Vernal is serving tea to the group.
"Thank you Vernal, you can wait outside now." Raven said as Vernal left
"So, what is this truth that you want to tell us about?" Yang asked in an impatient tone
"You know, you all should drink your tea. It's much better when it's hot and it has tendency to calm the nerves." Raven said to the group.
"You know, you're really obnoxious." Weiss stated to Raven
"Hello pot, meet kettle." Ragna commented causing Weiss to give him a brief glare before Raven started to speak
"The truth is that absolute truths are hard to come by. Nothing in the world is as black and white as the Academies would have you believe. By now, Qrow has told you plenty of stories and you all easily trust him." Raven stated to the group
"Unlike certain people in my life, Qrow has always been there, and he hasn't given me any reason to doubt him." Yang stated to Raven
"That doesn't mean those reasons don't exist. Which also extends to the Academies and the Headmasters." Raven stated
"What does this have to do with Ozpin?" Ragna asked
"A couple of things, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if there are reasons to doubt the Six Heroes." Raven responded
"What does this have to do with the truths that your so determined to tell us about?" Makoto asked slowly losing her patience
"Several things in fact, you all need to understand that truths people like to tell you. Are not entirely certain truths and there is always room for doubt. Think about it, all of are poster children for the Huntsman Academies. You all have different motives, but at the core of it, you all want to make the world a better place. Though something none of you realize is that your motivations can change. When you all experience certain things, your motivations can change and that is something Ozpin and Qrow won't fully understand." Raven told the group
"What do you know about motivations?" Yang asked
"Me and Qrow attended the Academies, compared to what we experienced with the tribe. The entrance Exams were child's play. We didn't attend to make the world a better place, we went to Beacon to learn how to properly kill Huntsman." Raven said which surprised most of the group
"Makes sense, with the kind of training a Huntsman have. They have the skills to fight against the bandits and track you all down. While regular Villagers don't stand a chance against bandits." Ragna briefly explained to everyone
"Spot on Ragna, the Tribe needed a counter force and me and Qrow were the right age. We were good and eventually caught the attention of Beacon's Headmaster. I thought he was interested in me and Qrow, but he really had his eyes on team STRQ." Raven told the group before she continued
"Extra training missions, more attention, and turning a blind eye to when we get into trouble that we shouldn't have gotten into. All for the sake of a mission that is part of something bigger than any of you think. In fact, I know for certain that one of you knows that Ozpin isn't entirely who he says he is. Isn't that right Ragna?" Raven said causing everyone to look at Ragna
"What are you saying Raven?" Ragna said while on guard
"I heard that you and your brother stumbled on one of Ozpin's secrets. A secret that involves a great power that's connected to the bigger picture." Raven said which surprised everyone
"Are you kidding, another secret Ragna!" Yang angrily yelled causing Ragna to respond
"How did you know about that Raven?" Ragna asked
"I have my methods, but this does prove my point. Ozpin has plenty of secrets and this is the just the start. Everything the public knows about Ozpin is wrong." Raven said to the group
"Since you said we don't know anything about Professor Ozpin. Then why don't you tell us what you know about him?" Weiss suggested to the Tribal Leader
"What I know is that the man you know as Ozpin designed the Huntsman Academies and has followers in each of them. The moment I learned this I felt that I needed to learn more. Only to realize that the world is a lot more dangerous than I thought. Especially with the fact's he entrusted to our team." Raven explained before she continued
"The Grimm has a master named Salem. She can't be reasoned with, she can't be stopped and she will not rest until humanity crumbles beneath her feet. She's not the only threat we have to worry about, but for now we should focus on Salem." Raven said as she drank her tea
"Like I give a damn about that." Ragna said which surprised everyone especially Raven
"The Grimm has a master and Ozpin has secrets that affects Remnant. Most people would be afraid but your focused." Raven said in an impressed tone
"It sounds like this Salem is connected to Ozpin. Which means she orchestrated the Fall of Beacon and is involved with Terumi and Cinder. All this means is another name on my list of people to kill." Ragna angrily said to Raven before Weiss spoke after noticing a specific name
"Ragna, what does Terumi have to do with any of this? He's one of the Six Heroes." Weiss asked
"Because Terumi is a major threat just like Salem. Interesting fact, Yuuki Terumi betrayed the Six Heroes. In fact, the Kingdoms were against the Six Heroes and tried to kill them after the death of the Black Beast." Raven briefly explained to the group
"That makes sense, me and a group of students fought against Terumi. The experience was far from pleasant. The worst part about it, he was holding back and Jubei ended up saving us." Makoto said to everyone
"Which leads to another question, what do any of you know about the Black Beast itself?" Raven asked
"Aside from the fact that we were all lied to about the name, not much. There is that speech Cinder made, but . . . . ." Yang said as she angrily looked at Ragna
"Since your well informed and is sharing details with everyone. Allow me to clear a few things up before you share certain facts. That speech was right on a few details. Before my master left, he told me about the Black Beast and brought me up to speed on everything. The Black Beast did die, but its soul has a surprisingly strong instinct to survive. Though my aura and semblance are my own, half of the Black Beast's soul and power is within me and attached to my soul." Ragna said which surprised the girls except for Raven
"You said half, do you know where the other half is?" Weiss asked
"The other half is within Nu, when I went berserk during the Vytal Festival. Terumi made my half of the Black Beast's soul go berserk and you all know the rest of the details." Ragna said which surprised everyone even further
"So if we'd have brought in Nu, she would have been with the General instead of with Salem. Now this master of the Grimm has someone who has half of the Black Beast's power. All because of you Ragna." Yang angrily said while giving Ragna a glare
"Now do you understand the threats that are out there? Salem controls the Grimm and Terumi is working with her." Raven told the group
"It still doesn't matter, I just have another name on my list of targets." Ragna stated which piqued Raven's curiosity
"I said earlier that she can't be stopped or reasoned with. So what makes you think you can do any better than a man who's fought her for years?" Raven asked in a curious tone
"For starters she doesn't know a damn thing about me. So when I fight her, I will start by cutting off her head. If that doesn't work, I'll cut her into small pieces or beat her to a pulp. If she is still around then I will make sure she knows fear and will see to it that she will know to run away at the sight of me." Ragna stated to Raven
"Confident, though from what I've seen of your skills and strength. You might be able to pull it off Ragna." Raven said as she drank her tea
"Why should we believe any of the things you've told us?" Yang asked
"Your catching on, you've accepted everything with blind obedience. You may hate Ragna's guts. But he has questioned everything and knows the bigger picture. Especially since he's been thrown into the middle of it." Raven said in an impressed tone before she spoke further
"Otherwise you'll end up just as blind as Qrow and your fool of a father. Your sister is with Qrow right now, so it's only a matter of time before she ends up like them." Raven said causing Yang to blast the ground and destroy the table
"Don't you dare talk about my family like that!" Yang yelled causing Makoto to grab her shoulder
"Yang, I know how you feel. But you need to stay calm." Makoto told Yang
"You don't get it Makoto, this is my mother. Someone who abandoned me when I was a baby. She's judging my family and my life despite not being a part of any of it." Yang told Makoto
"You should listen to her Yang, your friends and teammates won't let you down." Raven said to Yang which angered her further
"You don't know anything about my teammates. You don't know anything about me or my life. If anything, it seems like to me that you care more about Ragna than you do about me!" Yang angrily yelled at Raven
"I know more than you think, because of everything I've seen. For example, I know that magic truly does exist. Like the power Jin used to save Vale from the Grimm breach. The power he used is called the Power of Order. Though if you need more convincing, I can prove it. Just come outside and I will show you. Tai told you about my semblance, but I doubt he told you what Ozpin did to Qrow and me." Raven said as she walked outside
"Go see for yourself, if you want more proof." Vernal said which surprised everyone before she stepped outside the tent again
"Yang, I know meeting your mother is complicated. But if you want to talk we can . . ." Weiss said before Yang spoke up
"I'm fine, I'll be even better when she takes us to Ruby. Well all of us except you Ragna." Yang stated
"Do we need to go over this again Yang? I thought I made it clear that I'm not going to let you stop me from getting to Haven. Whether I go with you or through you depends on you." Ragna stated to Yang
"You don't want to go because you care about Ruby or want to do the right thing. You only want to go because you only care about having your revenge. I bet that you would have left Ruby at the Tower if it meant fighting Cinder." Yang told Ragna
"You have the galls to lecture me about being selfish Yang? Especially since you put your own kid sister in danger, looking for a mother that's not even worth it. You would have to be incredibly stupid to do something selfish." Ragna stated which angered Yang even further and shocked everyone
"How dare you bring that up, you put Jin in danger because of your own pride. But at least I still have my sister, while Jin hates your guts and I see why! No matter what you say and do, the only thing you care about is yourself." Yang yelled causing Ragna to take his red and black coat and exposed his arm to everyone
"Noticed anything different everyone?" Ragna asked
"Your right arm is completely black, and it goes up to your shoulder." Makoto said after noticing Ragna's arm
"Did Ruby tell you everything that happened at the Tower?" Ragna asked
"Nothing else, only that you saved her life." Makoto answered
"Cinder and Terumi were there at the top of the Tower, along with Ruby and Pyrrha. When I got to the top, I was able to fight against Cinder but Terumi was another story. When I fought against him, that bastard cut off my arm. The power I have within, regenerated my arm but it still wasn't enough to fight against Terumi. Using what strength I had, I saved Ruby from Cinder's attack with my own body." Ragna stated which shocked Weiss and Makoto and disturbed Yang before she regained her focus
"I didn't know." Yang told Ragna before Makoto spoke up
"Ragna, you and Weiss should go outside and see what Raven has to show us. I'll stay here with Yang for a bit." Makoto said
"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. Come on Ragna." Weiss said as she went outside with Ragna following her after he grabbed his jacket
"Makoto, I know you have something to say about this." Yang said in a reluctant tone not looking forward to the lecture
"Your right, what was up with that earlier? I get that your angry and hurt, but fighting Ragna in a Bandit Camp of all places. You have to admit that this wasn't the time or the place for it." Makoto stated to Yang
"I'm sorry, but its just too much for me to deal with at one time. When I knew I would have to see my mother. The same person who abandoned me and knew I was looking for her but didn't give a damn about me. But for Ragna to be here as well just pushed me over the edge. He lied to me and hurt me, I lost my arm because of what he's done. So when I saw them here in one place. I couldn't stay calm and level-headed." Yang explained to Makoto
"I understand, you were overwhelmed with too much at once. But you really can't mean what you said about him not coming with us." Makoto told Yang
"I meant it Makoto, I'm grateful that he saved Ruby. But you heard everything he said, he's not going to help Ruby or to do the right thing. He's going because he wants revenge and nothing else. Having someone like him near Ruby will just put her in danger. Something I'm trying to prevent in every way I can." Yang explained to Makoto
"I know his motivation isn't exactly high standard, but don't forget that your motivation for being a Huntress was mainly for the adventure. Besides, don't you think he suffered enough? The world is against him, he's public enemy number 1. Not to mention that he doesn't know who to trust. I also get the feeling that something else happened at Beacon aside from what we know. Which is also strengthening his drive for revenge." Makoto explained to Yang before she continued
"Ragna is going to come with us whether you like it or not. If you fight him every step of the way. Then I know for certain that no good will come from it, if you spend your time fighting Ragna. While ignoring the fact that if he wanted it, he could have killed us. Like when he demonstrated his power earlier when you two fought each other. So let him come along with us. If he comes, we can help make sure he keeps a level head, and you can learn why he did what he did. The both of you were close back at Beacon. Doesn't the friendship you two had mean anything to you. Or are you going to throw it away without learning why? I know you're a good sister, but didn't he earn the right for you to give him a chance to do good?" Makoto explained causing Yang to think for a moment
Within Yang's mind and heart, she knew that Makoto was right. Even though Yang was overwhelmed with her sense of pain at the sight of Raven and Ragna. She knew that she should have stayed calm and focused on getting to Ruby. She also realized that during the entire time of their reunion. Yang never bothered to ask why Ragna lied to her and defended Nu. During their entire time together, Yang knew that Ragna wouldn't do what he did without a reason. So for everything to occur the way they did without knowing why. Gives Yang conflicted feelings towards Ragna. An individual she once saw as a close friend and maybe even a brother.
(Outside Raven's Tent)
Both Weiss and Ragna made there way outside of Raven's tent through the back entrance. Once they did so, they noticed that Raven was nowhere to be seen. Though the both of them are on guard. Weiss knew that this was a good opportunity to talk to Ragna about what happened earlier.
"When I saw you again I didn't know you lost your arm, so why didn't you tell me?" Weiss asked in a concerned tone
"Because it didn't really matter, Nu cut of Yang's arm. Which wouldn't have happened if I handled things better. Besides, I'm not here to give a sob story about what I lost." Ragna answered before Weiss held a brief thought before she continued to talk
"Ragna, I see that your clearly motivated to go after the people behind the Fall of Beacon. But Yang has a point, it seems like your motivated by nothing but revenge." Weiss told Ragna
"I haven't lied about wanting to get the people behind the Fall of Beacon. Cinder, Terumi, and now Salem have hurt the people I cared about and ruined my life. I am not letting that go, no matter what someone tells me." Ragna told Weiss causing her to think of a different topic when she realizes that Ragna is determined to get his revenge
"Do you really believe what Raven said about magic?" Weiss asked
"I believe her on that, magic really does exist." Ragna responded
"But its too unbelievable, I mean we have all kinds of dust and aura, even semblances. There is no such thing as magic." Weiss said
"That statement makes you sound very close minded. Magic really does exist, in fact you've seen it twice. Like Raven said, the power Jin used to stop the Grimm Breach." Ragna told Weiss
"But that's just a case of extremely powerful aura." Weiss answered
"Then how about this, do you remember when Sister Celica healed Jin's back and asked us to keep it a secret?" Ragna asked
"Yes, I remember that day." Weiss answered
"Sister Celica used magic to heal Jin. Master Jubei told me that she could use magic a long time ago when I trained under him. As for why she wants it to be kept a secret. So just imagine what will happen to her if everyone finds out about her magic powers?" Ragna said
"Alright, I see your point." Weiss said before Makoto and Yang walked outside
"Is everything good?" Makoto asked
"Yeah, nothing happened, in fact Raven is gone." Weiss said causing the group to look around the area further. As they looked around, they noticed a lone Raven and it proceeded to fly around, circling the group.
"I've seen that Raven before, many times in fact." Yang said as they all looked at the Raven circle them. As the Raven flew, it started to fly behind several trees and a brief second later. The Raven disappeared and Raven emerged and leaped towards the ground which shocked everyone except Ragna.
"That everyone, is an example of magic. But I don't know how she was able to acquire it. I doubt she was born with it, otherwise Yang would be able to do something similar." Ragna told the group
"Observant once again Ragna, if any of you want to learn more you can stay with me. Or you can get your answers from Qrow." Raven said before she opened a portal that led to Qrow
"You're letting us go, just like that without any argument or struggle?" Makoto asked Raven
"I'm giving you all a choice, stay here and I will answer all of your questions. We can have a fresh start. Or you can go to Qrow and fight an endless war. But can you really trust someone who has kept so much from you?" Raven asked as Yang went to get her motorcycle
"I have no reason to stay with bandits. No matter what they say." Weiss said
"You must be crazy if you think I'm going to join with bandits. I might as well join the White Fang." Makoto said before Yang came back with her motorcycle
"Yang, if you leave I will not be so kind at our next meeting." Raven warned Yang
"You weren't kind this time, so what will I be missing." Yang stated to Raven before she started to drive. Though before she went too far, she started to talk
"Ragna, if you want to come with us then do it now. I doubt mom will keep the portal open or open it again." Yang told Ragna before she drove off
"Listen to me Ragna, its not too late for you. You're at the center of more than you think. It's not just Salem, the entire world wants you dead. But if you're with the Tribe. You will be among people that will understand and trust you. There is so much I can teach you and I can help you reach your full potential. It's not too late Ragna." Raven told Ragna in a slightly pleading tone
"I've made my choice." Ragna said before he made a decision that will affect the rest of his life
(Streets of Mantle)
After a successful mission from the Hunter's initiative that was established by the nobles of Atlus. Most particularly the current head of the Kisaragi Household. Despite being unable to capture Dr. Merlot, the mission was considered a success since the abductions were put to a stop and the perpetrators are in prison. Ever since then, team KKMT has been on a long string of missions of numerous varieties. From having to kill the Grimm in many areas. To safely escorting Nobles and giving aide to the citizens of Mantle. Team KKMT was able to do all of this while maintaining their training. Currently the team has earned a well earned day off and they plan to have some time to themselves.
After Tsubaki confirmed that the new outfits for the team will be ready in a few months. She decided to make her way to the clinic because of an item in her possession. The item in question is a picture that was recovered from their first Hunter's initiation mission within a lab. The memories of the lab is still fresh on Tsubaki's mind and the horrors that she witnessed. The picture was found in the Lab and Tsubaki's instinct is practically screaming at her that the picture is important. Though she was vaguely able to make out the faces. She needs the picture to be recovered so she can be sure. Fortunately, she knows of a clinic in Mantle that has a good deal of technology. Which gives Tsubaki the idea to go there and see if the picture quality can be improved. Even though she could get this done in Atlus, there are too many people making snide comments about her because of the rumors about her family. She still loves her parents, but the snide comments are often hard to deal with despite the support from her family and team.
"I made it to Mantle, the Clinic shouldn't be too far now." Tsubaki thought to herself as she looked around the City and saw in greater detail the poor condition Mantle was in, especially compared to Atlus.
"How can so many people in Atlus allow the City of Mantle to be in such a bad condition. Surely It's already bad enough that the Faunus re mistreated on a daily basis especially when they work in the Dust Mine. But this is just inhumane. I hope the General knows that this can't be kept up for long. Because at the end of the day, the people are the ones who suffer." Tsubaki thought to herself as she was walking towards her destination. Though as she was walking, an alarm was blaring through the city and the people that were running inside the various nearby buildings in panic.
Before long, Tsubaki saw various Grimm enter the Mantle City District. The nearby drones tried to attack the Grimm but they were quickly destroyed by the Beowolves. When Tsubaki looked further, she saw that among the Beowolf Grimm, are several Ursa, Lancer, Teryx, and Manticore Grimm. Once Tsubaki saw the Grimm, she quickly armed herself and started to attack the Grimm.
Once she got close to the Grimm, Tsubaki quickly slashed the nearest Ursa Grimm and was able to kill it with ease. After the first Grimm was dealt with, Tsubaki noticed that the nearby Lancer Grimm was about to shoot her with its stinger. Reacting quickly, Tsubaki brought up her shield and blocked the stinger shots. Once the stinger shots was blocked, Tsubaki quickly rolled to the side and was able to avoid a claw from a Sabyr Grimm and proceeded to quickly cut it down.
"I can't believe I missed the Sabyr Grimm. With the alarm, more people should be coming to deal with the Grimm. I just need to hold out until then." Tsubaki thought before she blocked an attack from an Ursa with her shield.
Once the Ursa's attack was blocked, Tsubaki used her strength and speed to quickly cut it down and del with the other nearby Ursa. Realizing that this could be more dangerous than she expected, she used her semblance to gather energy from the light and got stronger. Shortly after doing that, Tsubaki used the Izayoi to create a light sword and was able to cut down a good number of the Beowolves and Ursa Grimm. The nearby Lancer Grimm tried to shoot at Tsubaki again. Once again she used her shield and this time instead of blocking the stinger shots. The shield reflected the attacks with various beams of light and was able to destroy the Lancer Grimm.
"HELP ME!" A female voice yelled quickly getting Tsubaki's attention
At hearing the yell, Tsubaki rushed towards the source and quickly cut down the Grimm that were in her way. When she got to the source, she saw that a female was crawling away from two Sabyr Grimm and a Teryx Grimm. Using a good deal of her strength and aura. She quickly made it to the source of the scream and proceeded to cut down the trio of Grimm with her light sword. After the Grimm were dealt with, Tsubaki saw that she was away from the Grimm and decided to check on the woman.
"Miss, it's currently safe now." Tsubaki told the woman
"It's about time, if you were any slower I would have been . . . ." The woman said before she took a look at Tsubaki and Tsubaki took a better look of her face. When Tsubaki saw her face in better detail. She recognized her as the trophy wife from the Fundraiser.
"So the genetic freak have come to insult me for my fall from grace." The former trophy wife told Tsubaki
"I remember you, along with everything you said." Tsubaki said suppressing her rage
"Hah well lucky for you, me being condemned to this trach heap of a city is a fate worse than death. After the Fundraiser, my ex-husband disowned me for embarrassing him at the party. Now I've been reduced to living here in Mantle. All because of the damn Schnee and that General. Not to mention you, the genetic freak that is a child of inbreeding." The Former Trophy Wife angrily told Tsubaki
"Miss, your current situation was brought to you by your own actions. I'm sure your ex-husband has told you that it is important that you keep your words to yourself. But instead of keeping quiet, you have brought the wrath of many nobles on to you. You've brought this on yourself. Now this is your chance to reevaluate yourself and make a fresh start. If you have nowhere to go, I can direct you to a homeless shelter. I'll even give you some lien if you need." Tsubaki said as she tried to give Lien to the Former Trophy before it was smacked away
"I don't need your charity or pity. If you want to kill me for your revenge then do it!" The former trophy wife angrily stated to Tsubaki
"I don't want to . . . . LOOK OUT!" Tsubaki said before she pushed the Former Trophy Wife to the side and used her shield to knock an attacking Sabyr Grimm to the side and destroyed it with a light energy burst. After the Grimm was dealt with, Tsubaki saw a horde of Sabyr Grimm coming towards them and when she looked around she saw the hoard of various Grimm from earlier and were making their way towards the two.
"Miss, I will do what I can here. Make sure you get to safety and stay hidden until it's safe to move." Tsubaki told the Former Trophy Wife
"But I . . ." The Former Trophy Wife tried to say before Tsubaki interrupted her
"Do it, you can't throw away your life!" Tsubaki said before she proceeded to fight against the charging Sabyr Grimm.
Tsubaki was able to quickly deal with the Grimm that were coming after her. But the impressive speed of the Sabyr Grimm slowly started to overwhelm her. Tsubaki tried to deal with the Grimm. But it was hard for her to fight against the Grimm and protect someone who is unable to get away. A brief second later Tsubaki refocused on the task and increased the intensity of her attacks against the Grimm. Using various light based attacks, she managed to keep the Grimm away from the Former Trophy Wife and destroyed the approaching Grimm. Unfortunately for her, the Manticore Grimm was slowly approaching and is accompanied by several Sabyr Grimm. Before Tsubaki could think of a plan, one of the Sabyr Grimm started to charge at her at an intense speed and leaped towards her. Before it got close and Tsubaki could counter it. A staff was thrown at the Grimm and knocked it back before it returned to its owner. When Tsubaki saw who the owner is, she sees a tall slender woman with glasses and a noticeable figure that her red dress brings out.
"Looks like I made it in time." Litchi said in a relieved tone
"Thank you, I was starting to get overwhelmed. My name is Tsubaki Yayoi." Tsubaki said introducing herself
"My name is Litchi Faye-Ling. Help will be here soon, we just need to hold on for 5 minutes. I've had some training so I know I can be of some help." Litchi said before the two fought against the Grimm
Several Sabyr Grimm started to charge towards Litchi. Reacting quickly, Litchi quickly swung her staff and was able to knock away several nearby Grimm and delivered a strong thrust attack towards the nearest Grimm and killed it. Litchi quickly noticed a Grimm was approaching her from behind and did a backflip to avoid the attack. Once the attack was avoided, Litchi threw her staff to knock the Sabyr Grimm into another Grimm that's in front of it. Immediately after that, Litchi delivered a rapid assault on the Grimm while they were close and after a brief moment. The two Grimm were knocked back even further before they disintegrated. After the Grimm were dealt with, Litchi regrouped with Tsubaki while being able to protect the Former Trophy Wife.
"We were able to bring down the numbers. But I don't know how long we can keep this up." Tsubaki told Litchi
"Its fine, just look up in the sky." Litchi said before Tsubaki did as she said. When Tsubaki looked, she saw a small figure exuding green flames as it flew in the sky.
The mysterious figure flew closer to the group and proceeded to release a set of blades and released several strong energy blasts and made very short work of the Grimm. Many of the Grimm that noticed this tried to run away. But the figure was able to destroy them as well. Once the Mantle's alarm stopped blaring, the figure flew to the ground. When Tsubaki saw the figure in a better light, she saw a light skinned girl with a green outfit and freckles. What made her stand out even further is that her orange hair is in twin pony tails.
"Penny, is that you? I thought you were destroyed?" Tsubaki said before the person turned towards Tsubaki and quickly rushed in front of her. Much to the red-head's slight panic
"Wow, I am very honored that you would call me Penny. But I believe you have been mistaken. I am not my older sister, in fact I am Penny's younger sister Polly Polendina. The soon to be protector of Mantle." Polly energetically said as introducing herself before looking at Litchi
"Litchi, I am very happy to see that you are still alive. I'm sorry that you had to fight the Grimm that came to Mantle. But my dad's overview of my systems took more time than I thought." Polly said as she gave her a hug
"That's alright Polly, but can you please let go of me. I appreciate the affection, but I'm having a hard time breathing." Litchi struggled to say before Polly let go in embarrassment
"I'm sorry, but I am always happy to see my friends and family alive and well." Polly said before she ran towards Tsubaki again
"Since we have fought the Grimm together. Can we be friends now?" Polly asked in a slightly pleading tone
"Um . . . . sure, the more the merrier, in fact you remind me of another one of my friends. Her name is Makoto Nanaya and I'm sure you'll get along well with her once you meet her." Tsubaki said much to Polly's delight causing her to jump up and down
"Yes, I made a new friend. First it was Litchi who works for my dad. Now its this Huntress who is . . . . um what is your name?" Polly asked in an awkward tone
"My name is Tsubaki Yayoi and I was on my way to the Clinic. I'm not sick or anything, I just need Dr. Polendina's help with something." Tsubaki told Polly and Litchi which made Polly even happier
"Yes, my new friend gets to visit my Dad. This is just like my first-time meeting Litchi, my first friend." Polly said as she flew around excitedly
"Polly doesn't get the chance to interact with people who are approachable. As you can probably guess Dr. Polendina created her, and I work for him as his assistant at the Clinic. Dr. Polendina sees her as a daughter. But after what happened with Penny, he's a bit overprotective of her. It took me and his former Lab assistant Clementine days to convince him to let Polly fight the Grimm. We can take you there if you want." Litchi told Tsubaki
"Thank you, I would very much appreciate that." Tsubaki said before they left the area
"Wait." The Former Trophy Wife called out getting Tsubaki's attention
"You had no reason to help me. You could have let the Grimm kill me. Especially with what I've done the first time we met. So why did you save me?" The Former Trophy Wife asked
"I can't deny the rage and anger I feel towards you for what you said about me, my family, and my friends. But if I give in to my anger and get revenge, then it would ultimately be pointless. The damage has been done and nothing I can do will change that. All I can do now is move forward and thrive to be a better person. If you want to make it up to me. Use this chance to reevaluate yourself and be a better person. Have a good day." Tsubaki said as she walked away with Litchi to get to her destination
(Mistral House)
For a few hours, the entire group spent hours getting the food ready for dinner. Though Qrow was unable to get more Huntsman or Huntresses for their mission. The group is confident that they will have better luck tomorrow. Qrow spent time explaining the situation to Ozpin and they decided to keep certain suspicions to themselves. While Jaune himself has been more focused on his training.
"So do any of you think Jaune will be OK?" Ruby asked in a concerned tone as she was cutting carrots with Nora
"Jaune will be fine, I mean he puts up with Jin and has gotten so much cooler since then. We just need to give him some time and space." Nora said as she snacked on a piece of carrot
"To be fair, Jaune did experience something that words can't describe. That can't be easy for anyone to stomach and he was also with Lambda. It couldn't be easy on her either." Ren commented as he fried the food
"I know, I don't think I could keep it together if I saw something like that." Ruby told Ren before he spoke further
"Ruby, I know you told us you what happened at the Tower involving Pyrrha. But are you sure your OK. Me and Nora along with several other students fought Terumi. But you dealt with him with too little help. I can't imagine that being easy for you in the slightest. Especially with what Qrow has told us. Are you sure your OK?" Ren asked causing Nora to give a concerned look
"I'm fine Ren, but to be honest. I don't want to talk about it, at least not yet." Ruby said in a slightly despondent tone
"Everyone, come here for a bit!" Qrow yelled
"We're coming." Ruby said before they left the kitchen. Ruby was the first to get to the Living Room. When she made it to the living room, she saw her uncle with his arm crossed. Though she quickly saw that he was not alone. Standing besides him were three people that she is happy to see. She saw Makoto standing alongside her teammate Weiss. But most particularly, she saw her big sister Yang.
"YANG!" Ruby yelled in a surprised tone causing everyone to come to the living room
"This is great, the sisters are back together." Nora said
"I know, this is heartwarming." Bang said agreeing with Nora. After a brief second, Yang ran to Ruby and gave her a big hug
"I'm sorry Ruby, I am so sorry." Yang tearfully told Ruby as she hugged her
"It's OK Yang, I understand." Ruby said as she hugged Yang. As the sisters were hugging each other. Jin walked into the living room and noticed everything that was going on. Weiss was the first person to see him.
"Jin!" Weiss yelled as she quickly made her way to Jin and give him a hug as well.
"I missed you." Weiss told Jin
I missed you too Weiss." Jin responded before Qrow spoke up
"I'm glad that this is heartwarming for everyone. But you all need to know that there is still one more person." Qrow said getting everyone's attention before he turned slightly towards the door
"Come on in!" Qrow yelled out before the door opened up. Once the doors opened, a single individual came through the door and most of the people were shocked to who he is. Jaune, Bang, Bullet, and Lambda were happy to see him. But most of the others had mixed expressions.
"Ragna, you made it." Jaune said happy to see Ragna again
"Yeah, this is a surprise." Nora said in a slightly scared tone remembering her fight against Beast-Ragna. At the sight of Ragna, Ruby approached Ragna and saw that it was him. After seeing his new coat and redesigned weapon. Ruby did something that surprised everyone. She smiled and gave him a hug that lasted a few seconds before she let go.
"Thank you for saving me at the tower." Ruby tearfully said in a grateful tone
"Anytime." Ragna said in a happy tone to Ruby. At the sight of Ragna, Jin aggressively approached him and once Jin got closer to Ragna, he moved Ruby to the side. Everyone in the room could feel the aggressive coming from Jin and decided to stand aside.
"Endangered anymore lives brother? Or did you get your fill after endangering Sister Celica and our sister?" Jin asked which angered Ragna
"I dare you to say that again Jin and choose your next words very carefully." Ragna angrily said while he balled up his fist
"Maybe you didn't understand me brother, so I will say it again. Did you do the same stupid shit that again endangered our family and let a murderous child get away with what she's done?" Jin said causing Ragna to throw a punch and the brothers started to fight each other before most of the people in the room broke them up.

Something I need to explain about Tao and the Kaka clan. When it comes to Tao's intelligence, she does have common sense but she severely lacks street and book smarts. What played a role into this is that the Kaka Clan do not have access to schools. Which makes it hard for them to get an education. There are many cases where teachers, Huntsman, and Huntresses do help with being tutors to the Kaka Clans. But the Kaka Clans not being part of the Kingdoms both by choice and circumstances made thing a bit difficult.
Tsubaki's secret in this story is that she is a child of incest. Before anyone gets the wrong idea, this has been confirmed in the main games and it is canon. I tried to be subtle and give small details. But since I've shown the Murakumo Labs in detail. Especially since the Labs experimented on a lot of people, especially kids. Confirming Tsubaki's secrets is very mild by comparison. I am fully aware of the Izayoi form Tsubaki has in the games and I have a few ideas on when to implement it into the story.
I am looking forward to the responses towards Polly Polendina. I would like to thank and give a shoutout to GM9000 for the idea. It fell within my plans and I am looking forward to the future with the character.
There is a lot more to Polly than this chapter shows. I'm jumping the gun a bit, but she will show up again in the next chapter and after that. She will NOT appear again until this story gets to Volume 7. That is the plan until further notice, but so far this is set in stone. Also, Polly WILL NOT be Penny 2.0, her role is to be a younger sister but there is a lot more to her. But I can't give those details away without spoiling anything.
Another thing, there is a major reason why Ragna will not join the tribe. In a future chapter it will be explained further and I am very excited for when we get to that point. There is also a good reason for that scene with Ragna and Jin and it will be explained in the next chapter.
