'Any early predictions you'd like to share Shota?'
'There's definitely some interesting match ups, it will come down to who can adapt best to their opponents plan. The person who adapts last wins.' Eraser stated dryly.
'Thanks Sho, now the break is over and it's time to kick off the first match. It's the ghostly goddess from 1-B, Reiko Yanagi versus the must useful item in any toolbox, Hanta Sero.'
Midnight sat on a referee podium next to Cementoss said, 'Ready, Set, FIGHT' with a crack of her whip.
Sero threw out twin streamers of tape from his elbows, attaching them to either corner behind Yanagi, with a change of stance he sent the two ends still attached in opposite directions to try to catch Yanagi in the scissor.
Not sitting idle, Yanagi kicked off her shoes and jacket, all three items orbiting around her. As the scissor sliced towards her she flew up into the air deftly evading it.
'Well if a little bit of tape isn't enough, why not try some more. FLEX NET', From Sero's elbows spewed forth a dozen strands which he was able to weave into a large net, completely covering the width of the platform.
Yanagi's face was set in stone as she used both shoes to catch the net in mid air.
'It seems that when you seperate your tape into multiple strands, you do not produce more volume. That will prove to be your downfall.'
Yanagi now with a mental grip on the net turned it around and sent it chasing after Sero.
Sero yanked himself out of the way of the net sailing towards him. He narrowly avoided the next assault as well, but now he was locked firmly into the defensive, it was taking every ounce of his agility to avoid his own net.
'You've got a weight limit for your control, don't you?'
Yanagi said nothing, remaining dispassionate even as she continued to hound him.
'Did you know that my adhesive can hold a metric ton of weight? I bet that's more then you can lift' saying that Sero quickly shot out tape to the net and ground. Yanagi struggled to reach him with the net but couldn't.
Just as Sero prepared to launch his next attack, Yanagi's jacket, which she had moved during the confusion, wrapped around his head. Panicking, Sero tried to rip the jacket of his face.
He struggled even harder once the jacket started forcing his body backwards towards the edge of the ring. Sero launched tape to the ground to anchor himself, succeeding partially and locking his body in a stalemate. The jacket wrapped around his face blocking his airways and his tape straining against the force of the jacket.
Sero hated doing it because it blocked his dispensers but he began to reel back in the tape he had made, gradually pulling himself back towards the centre of the ring.
Just when he felt he could sigh in relief, the jacket he had been fighting against pushed forward instead of back, not expecting the sudden shift he crashed his head forward into Yanagi's fist. The next twenty seconds were brutal as Sero dazed and blinded was unable to do anything against the beating he received, every blow multiplued by his own body's reactions.
When there was a slight pause as Yanagi caught her breath, Sero snapped off the tape locking himself to the ground, he wrapped his arms around Yanagi coiling them both in tape. With the last of his strength he ran straight for the edge of the ring. With a leap he bellyflopped Yanagi over the line, she coughed out a wheeze as the air was driven out of her lungs.
'Match over, Winner by Ring out Hanta Sero' Midnight announced.
It took a few minutes for the medic bots to arrive and even longer for them to cut the tape holding the teens together. By the time they were separated Sero was a flustered mess as Yanagi wore a devilish grin.
'What a first match listeners, Young Sero might have gotten the win there but he sure came out worse from the fight.'
'Both Students rely on their environment to best utilise their quirks. When it came down to it, it was a simple matter of endurance and reaction' Aizawa said.
After Sero and Yanagi were moved to the nurse's room to get checked, Izuku and Uraraka stepped onto the stage.
'Let's both do our best Uraraka' Izuku said with a smile.
'Of course' Uraraka answered with a blazing determination shining in her eyes.
'BEGIN'
Acting first Uraraka rushed towards Izuku arms outstretched. Used to Bakugo's quick rushes Izuku was prepared and simply used Ultrahand to move Uraraka's left shoe across attaching them together for good measure.
Slamming into the ground, Uraraka was quick to roll forward, kicking off her shoes in the process. Taking aim she launched them in a perfectly straight line directly at Izuku's head.
'Sorry Uraraka, this is a bit of a bad match up for you', Izuku stated contritely. He snapped his fingers just before the shoes would have hit him, they paused in the air for a heartbeat before rocketing back at Uraraka. She ducked just in time, doing her best to continue to close distance.
Just as she got within arms distance, Izuku whipped his Zonai arm to the side, yanking Uraraka by her shirt clear to the other side of the boundary. Before she could do anything else Midnight announced the ringout.
Izuku rushed over to check if Uraraka was alright, just in time to see her break down into tears.
'Damn it, I couldn't do anything. How am I meant to help my family now?' She sobbed.
'Uraraka, it's OK. This is just our first year, There's plenty of time to prove yourself. Even still, look at the crowd.' The sounds of the crowd washed over them.
'Good match'
'That was really unlucky for her'
'I wish I'd gotten to see more of what she can do'
'Damn I was rooting for her after the first two rounds'
'You see, it's not your fault. You still did great.' Uraraka looked up at Izuku tearfully, then around at the crowd. A new found resolve hardened within her eyes as she wiped her tears.
'I'm going to beat you next year Midoriya, count on it.'
Saying that she stood up straight and proud to the audience and with a wave walked out of the arena.
'And the random number generator strikes again. Anything she could have done differently Shota?' Mic asked.
'Not in this match, with nothing to use and against a ranged opponent with no cover, she was just unlucky.'
'Well that's the way the cookie crumbles listeners let's see if the next match will be more even. It's pink alien queen who can melt anything with her acid, Mina Ashido against the immovable object that is Eijiro Kirishima.'
'Ah man, your intro was way more manly than mine' Kirishima complained.
'Cheer up Kiri, we get to spar again in front of an audience this time. So that means I get to embarass you on live TV' she said with an impish grin. Kirishima could only pout as Midnight counted down the start of the fight.
'BEGIN'
Ashido started quickly by skating forward on a thin film of viscous acid. She circled around Kirishima slinging globs of acid towards him.
He hardened his arms and slapped the fluid from the arm, deflecting the majority away from his torso, even still many small holes began to melt through his clothes.
Sick of standing still Kirishima rushed forward to cut off Ashido's path, swiping with his hardened claw-like fingers. Ashido dropped under the swing, spun on the ground in a break-dancing manoeuvre and unleashed a kick to the back of Kirishima's knee.
He had hardened his leg against the blow but his muscles still gave out, sending him to his knees. Ashido proceeded to pound Kirishima into the ground covering her legs and fists with acid to increase the effect of her blows.
Kirishima weathered the blows, holding his hardening for as long as possible, the acid was gradually melting away at it though.
'RED COUNTER' Kirishima yelled as he landed a heavy hit to Ashido's head. She stumbled back giving room for Kirishima to regain his footing.
He looked at Ashido, her head was bleeding over her face, her pant legs were ripped, he could see blood pouring down inside, and her knuckles were bloodied and bruised from punching his sharp, rocky armour. He stopped himself from rushing her down, instead taking a step back and allowing her to regain her breathe.
'Thanks Kiri, that doesn't mean I'm going to go easy on you though.'
'That's so manly Mina, bring it.' He yelled excitedly.
Having learned her lesson now, Ashido kept her distance opting instead to spray acid from her pressed together hands.
'ACID SHOT', she yelled as she continued to shower Kirishima.
Knowing he couldn't stay idle Kirishima sprinted towards Ashido. She was far more manoeuvrable then he was though especially slowed by his armour as he was. Changing tacts he dug his fists into the concrete ground, pulling up fistfuls of rock which he launched at Ashido.
'ACID VEIL' She yelled as she created an opaque barrier of semi-solid acid to catch and melt the projectiles.
That barrier also served as her undoing however as Kirishima burst through the wall with thicker, heavier armour then she had ever seen him create. Covered in the acid the rocky plates covering his form immediately started to smoke and hiss.
'RED GAUNTLET' he screamed as he landed a decisive blow to Ashido's stomach, folding her body around his fist.
Ashido collapsed and Kirishima was quick to scoop her up and toss her out of the ring.
Winner, Eijiro Kirishima' Midnight announced.
Todoroki and Momo faced off in the middle of the ring. Todoroki's eyes shined with anger that seemd out of place on his usually stoic face. Momo seeing this gulped nervously before hardening her resolve.
'BEGIN' Midnight called.
Momo felt the temperature drop moments before seeing the wall of ice racing towards her. She crouched down, an insulation blanket erupting from her back.
Shock filled the stadium as a glacier towered over the roof. Murmuring bubbled up from the audience, questioning if a student had just been killed.
Before any heroes could spring into action to arrest Todoroki a crack and shatter exploded the glacier. Ice blocks rained down across the field, none bigger then a basketball. Momo was revealed, surrounded by support pillars and with a depressed detonation switch.
Todoroki Tsked and instead sent out a compressed spike. Momo acted quickly producing a shield on her arm to blunt the spike while dodging to the side. Using her shield she blocked or deflected all the spikes Todoroki sent her way. She rushed forward to try to close the distance while producing a sword to match her shield.
Just as she got within reach Todoroki lifted himself up on a pillar of ice evading her swipe. She was forced to dodge back as the pillar erupted with spikes.
Cursing she made some distance between them, creating a riot control cannon. With a bang a heavy sandbag rocketed towards Todoroki. He made an ice wall to blocking the projectile, which thudded against it.
Making use of the obscurement Momo launched an explosive into the base of the pillar. Todoroki felt the quake in his feet as his pillar began to crumble, acting quickly he made a slide beneath him, softening his fall. This time he was the one to close the distance, accelerating his run by creating blocks that he pushed off with each step.
Momo was happy to meet Todoroki, letting her sword training shine as she forced Todoroki onto the back foot. Todoroki stumbled slightly, Momo capitalised with an overhead swing to finish the fight, it was a feint however as Todoroki caught her wrist. Instantly she was cocooned within an ice block completely immobilising her.
'Yaoyorozu can you continue?' Midnight asked.
Momo struggled for a moment but had to relent, 'No I can't'.
'Winner Todoroki'
Without a word Todoroki began to melt the ice to release Momo. Teeth chattering Momo was escorted to the nurse's station to get checked over. The crowds cheering was noticeably quieter then the other matches, unsure how to react to the overwhelming display of force from Todoroki and the lack of any attempt to hold back.
