Chapter 18: Time Heist: Xandar 2014
***SANCTUARY II - 2014***
In the depths of Sanctuary II, a tense atmosphere filled the air as Thanos, the formidable Mad Titan, stood before a massive holographic screen displaying Nebula's memory file. Searching the memory file had been an interesting quote made by an unexpected visitor—Mephiles The Dark, an enigmatic and malevolent being who had recently crossed paths with Thanos. Nebula floated in the room, with her memory files being entered nearby by Ebony Maw, one of the Children of Thanos. He was using a console nearby to work through the cryptic codes of Nebula's mind to seek the truth.
Mephiles, with his dark aura, had proclaimed that the key to understanding Thanos' true intentions lay within Nebula's network. He had urged the Mad Titan to seek the truth about his own plans to collect the Infinity Stones and bring balance to the universe.
Due to Mephiles' wisdom but manipulative tactics, Thanos took Nebula of this timeline back to Sanctuary II for further investigation. She was meant to assist Ronan in obtaining the Power Stone for Thanos, but the power of the stone manipulated and corrupted Ronan, seeking it for himself. However, the appearance of Mephiles and Anti-Aqua on the Asteroid changed Thanos' plans, he needed answers.
Intrigued and, perhaps, a bit perturbed by the cryptic encounter, Thanos found himself pondering the words of this mysterious entity. As he stood before the holographic display, the memory playback of Nebula's experiences played out before him, revealing the dark truth about his own actions.
As the memory played in Sanctuary II, Nebula's face was a mix of pain and determination. She was reliving her own future self's memories, witnessing the cruel and ruthless actions of her father, and a bit taken aback by the discovery, Thanos, with his piercing gaze, turned to Ebony Maw, his trusted advisor and confidant.
"Run diagnostics. Show me her memory file," Thanos commanded, referring to Nebula's memory file.
The sinister Ebony Maw nodded and began analyzing the memory file. His eyes widened in surprise as he revealed, "Sire, the file appears entangled. It was a memory, but not hers. There's another consciousness sharing her network...another Nebula."
The Mad Titan's expression darkened with curiosity and suspicion. "Impossible. Mephiles was on to something," Thanos mused, contemplating the implications of this newfound revelation.
Ebony Maw continued his analysis, uncovering a time stamp within the duplicate memory. "This duplicate carries a time stamp... from five years in the future," he disclosed.
Thanos' eyes narrowed, trying to comprehend the significance of this revelation. A duplicate Nebula from another timeline, sharing her memories with the present Nebula—such a discovery challenged the very fabric of reality.
"Can you access her?" Thanos asked, considering the implications of linking the two Nebulas.
Ebony Maw confirmed, "Yes. The two are linked."
A plan began to form in Thanos' mind as he realized the potential significance of this connection. The duplicate Nebula from the future held the key to unraveling the mysteries surrounding his quest for the Infinity Stones. With access to her consciousness, he could glean insights into his future self's actions and motivations.
As Thanos prepared to explore the shared memories of the two Nebulas, he couldn't shake the feeling that his destiny was about to take an unexpected turn—one that would challenge his beliefs, test his resolve, and force him to confront the consequences of his actions.
Suddenly from the darkness of the interrogation room, Mephiles materialized from the shadows, his crystallized form seemed to emit an otherworldly glow that illuminated the chamber of the Sanctuary II. His lime green eyes bore into Thanos, cold and piercing, devoid of any compassion or empathy. Even without a mouth, his face exuded wickedness and malevolence, sending shivers down the spine of those present.
Ebony Maw, an alien being accustomed to witnessing extraordinary events, couldn't help but feel a chill run down his spine at Mephiles' appearance. His typically composed demeanor wavered for a moment, as he sensed an unsettling aura surrounding the enigmatic entity.
Mephiles' very presence seemed to distort the air around him, creating an eerie and suffocating atmosphere. The low hum of the ship's systems seemed to fade into the background, as if the entire universe held its breath in anticipation of what was to come.
As Mephiles spoke, his voice echoed in the minds of those present, chilling their souls with his calculated and sinister tone.
"Must hurt your ego, taking advice from the likes of me, doesn't it?" he quipped, the words cutting through the silence like a knife.
Thanos' expression remained stoic, betraying none of the emotions bubbling within him. He had faced formidable foes before, but there was something uniquely unsettling about Mephiles' presence. It was as if the very essence of darkness itself had taken form and stood before him.
"Mephiles," Thanos acknowledged with an air of caution, his gaze locked with the malevolent entity before him. He was not one to be easily rattled, but even the Mad Titan couldn't deny the unnerving aura that surrounded the crystalline figure.
Ebony Maw, though usually composed and in control, found himself taking a step back, creating some distance between himself and Mephiles. The enigmatic being's presence seemed to reach into the deepest corners of his mind, unsettling even the most composed of thoughts.
Mephiles' eyes narrowed, seeming to relish the discomfort he caused. His mere existence seemed to challenge the very fabric of reality, and his knowledge of events that had not yet come to pass was a testament to his enigmatic nature.
"You seek the truth, Thanos," Mephiles continued, his voice echoing in the chamber. "But are you prepared for the consequences of what you may find?"
Thanos' resolve remained unshaken, but a flicker of uncertainty crossed his features. He knew that delving deeper into the memories of Nebula and the revelations brought forth by Mephiles could potentially alter the course of his destiny in ways he could not anticipate.
As the confrontation between Thanos and Mephiles intensified, the fate of the universe hung in the balance. The chilling encounter with the malevolent entity was just the beginning of an epic clash that would test the Mad Titan's mettle, question his beliefs, and force him to confront the darkest corners of his own soul.
As the memories continued playing, Mephiles observed with a wicked glint in his eyes, his crystalline form seemingly absorbing every detail. Thanos watched on, his face remaining stoic but curious as he listened to his own words from the future.
"I am inevitable," echoed the resolute voice of Thanos in the memory, a statement that had become synonymous with his unyielding determination.
The memory paused, and Mephiles took the opportunity to probe further, his lime green eyes focused on the Mad Titan.
"A bold statement," Mephiles remarked, his voice echoing in the chamber. "But tell me, Titan, what do you think the surviving heroes are trying to do now? What did I try to warn you of?"
Thanos furrowed his brow, considering the question carefully. "They're trying to stop something I'm going to do in their time. They're trying to undo my plan for balance and correction in the Universe," he replied, a hint of uncertainty creeping into his voice.
Mephiles chuckled darkly, his malevolent aura intensifying. "You may have won the battle," he taunted, "but the heroes of light are looking to win the war. They seek justice and retribution from your actions in the future."
The revelation struck a chord within Thanos, and he couldn't deny the weight of Mephiles' words. He had believed that his quest for the Infinity Stones and his mission to bring balance to the universe were justified, that they were necessary for the greater good. But the surviving heroes saw it differently—they saw the devastation and suffering caused by his actions and were determined to prevent it from ever happening.
Thanos' gaze shifted to Nebula, who was still connected to the memory playback. He knew that her future self had witnessed the consequences of his actions firsthand, and it weighed heavily on her.
The Mad Titan's mind raced with conflicting thoughts and emotions. He had always been unwavering in his conviction, seeing himself as the instrument of cosmic correction. But now, faced with the possibility of justice and retribution, he couldn't help but question the consequences of his actions.
Mephiles watched with a sense of satisfaction as the revelation sank in. He relished in the turmoil and doubt he had instilled in the mighty Mad Titan. The enigmatic entity seemed to revel in chaos and uncertainty, and this moment was no exception.
As the memory continued to play, revealing the shocking sight of Thanos being beheaded by Thor. However, The Mad Titan's expression remained surprisingly composed. He seemed unphased by witnessing his own demise, almost as if he had accepted it as an inevitable part of his destiny.
"And that is destiny fulfilled." Thanos said, with a sense of purpose and acceptance in his tone.
However, the revelation of his future fate had clearly struck a chord within him. Thanos contemplated the memory, his mind grappling with the implications of what he had just seen. The notion of his own destiny fulfilled left him with a mix of emotions, including a lingering sense of that moment, Mephiles interjected with his enigmatic presence, speaking with an air of arrogance and malevolence.
"You're a fool to think that this is your destiny," he sneered, his lime green eyes narrowing as he looked upon the Mad Titan. "The heroes who survived seek to reverse your role in shaping the universe."
Mephiles' words echoed in the chamber, and Thanos' gaze sharpened as he considered the proposition before him. The notion of the surviving heroes challenging his plans for the universe was not entirely unforeseen, but it still sparked a flicker of defiance within him.
Before Thanos could respond, Mephiles continued, his voice taking on an almost seductive tone. "However, if we join forces, we can work together to keep your plan alive," he proposed.
The offer was both tempting and dangerous. Mephiles, a being of darkness and manipulation, had a clear agenda of his own. His motives were shrouded in mystery, and his alliances were ever-changing.
Thanos' mind raced with conflicting thoughts. On one hand, the notion of aligning with Mephiles, if only temporarily, could ensure the success of his mission to bring balance to the universe. Yet, deep down, he knew that such an alliance would come with its own set of risks and consequences.
In the midst of this cosmic standoff, Nebula floated silently, a witness to the unfolding events. She had experienced firsthand the atrocities committed by her father, and the idea of joining forces with an enigmatic and malevolent being like Mephiles was concerning, to say the least.
"And what is your role in all of this?" Thanos inquired, his voice calm and composed.
Mephiles' crystalline form seemed to shimmer with delight as he responded, "My role is simple—to aid you in your quest and ensure that your vision becomes a reality. Together, we can thwart the heroes' efforts to undo your plans and reshape the universe according to your will."
The Mad Titan considered the offer carefully. While he was used to facing challenges and adversaries, Mephiles was an entirely different kind of being—one shrouded in dark intentions and unpredictable motives. To trust him was a gamble, but the potential reward was immense.
"And what do you gain from all of this?" Thanos pressed further, seeking to understand Mephiles' true motivations.
Mephiles' eyes glowed with a malevolent intensity as he answered, "For me, it is a chance to ensure that my timeline, my existence, did not fall in vain. The heroes' meddling with the Infinity Stones threatens to undo the very fabric of reality, and I seek to ensure that my timeline remains secure."
Thanos nodded, taking in the implications of Mephiles' words. The notion of safeguarding his own timeline and the potential to rebuild the universe to his vision were powerful incentives. Yet, he couldn't shake the feeling that this alliance could come at a significant cost.
"What guarantee do I have that you will honor this alliance and not betray me when it suits your purpose?" Thanos questioned, his voice stern.
Mephiles let out a chilling chuckle, his form flickering with shadows. "Trust is not a concept I adhere to," he replied cryptically. "But rest assured, our goals are currently aligned. As long as we both share a common vision, this alliance shall remain intact."
The words sent a shiver down Thanos' spine, but he knew that Mephiles spoke the truth. Trusting an enigmatic being like Mephiles was a risk, but it was a risk he was willing to take if it meant securing his vision for the universe.
With a nod of determination, Thanos made his decision. "Very well, Mephiles. We have an alliance—for now. Let us work together to stop these heroes of light and ensure the universe is reshaped according to our vision," he declared.
Mephiles' eyes glowed with satisfaction, a malevolent grin crossing his faceless form. "Excellent," he replied, his voice echoing with dark delight. "The fate of the cosmos will bend to our will."
As the alliance between the Mad Titan and the malevolent entity solidified, the stage was set for an epic clash that would determine the destiny of the universe itself. The heroes of light, driven by justice and a desire to undo the horrors of the past, would face their most formidable challenge yet. As Mephiles revealed Gamora's current situation and her impending battle with Ronan for the Power Stone on Xandar, Thanos couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. His favorite daughter, the one he had groomed and trusted to be by his side, was now alienated and had chosen a path that led to betrayal.
"Gamora," he whispered, a tinge of sadness in his voice. He knew he had lost her, and her actions were proof of the divide that had grown between them.
Mephiles, sensing an opportunity to manipulate Thanos further, offered a tempting solution. "I can get the Power Stone and stop Gamora," he proclaimed confidently. "However, I will need Nebula of this timeline to aid me in a little errand, call it a Plan B scenario."
Nebula, who had been silently observing the conversation, looked to her father in determination. "I'm willing to show you, Father, that I can be trusted," she declared, her eyes meeting Thanos' with a hint of vulnerability.
Thanos regarded her for a moment, contemplating her offer. He knew Nebula's loyalty had been wavering, torn between her allegiance to him and her desire for freedom from his tyrannical rule. This could be her chance to prove herself and gain his trust once more.
"And what is this little errand you have in mind, Mephiles?" Thanos inquired, a mix of curiosity and suspicion in his tone.
Mephiles' crystalline form shimmered with a malevolent delight as he replied, "Oh, you will see, Thanos. All in due time." His evil chuckle echoed through the chamber, sending a shiver down the spines of those present.
As the pieces of the cosmic puzzle began to fall into place, Thanos felt a strange mixture of apprehension and intrigue. He knew he was being played, that Mephiles had his own agenda and that Nebula's loyalty was still uncertain.
Yet, the promise of the Power Stone and the opportunity to stop Gamora's betrayal were too enticing to ignore. Thanos knew that, for now, he had no choice but to entertain this alliance with Mephiles and rely on Nebula's assistance.
The fate of the universe remained uncertain, and the decisions made in the coming hours would determine the course of history. The clash of darkness and light, the pursuit of power and balance, and the struggle for redemption and trust—all these elements intertwined in a cosmic dance that would reshape the destinies of heroes and villains alike.
As Mephiles and Thanos exchanged glances, an unspoken understanding passed between them. Each knew that their alliance was built on shaky grounds, that trust was a rare commodity in the world they inhabited. But for now, their goals aligned, and the stage was set for an epic confrontation that would redefine the very fabric of reality itself. The destiny of the universe awaited its ultimate judgment, and the choices made in the coming battle would echo through the cosmos for eternity.
***2014 - THE BATTLE OF XANDAR***
The Battle of Xandar in 2014 was an epic and devastating clash of cosmic forces, as Ronan the Accuser, a radical Kree zealot, led a ruthless assault on the planet in his quest to claim the Power Stone for himself. The skies above Xandar were ablaze with explosions, and the ground trembled beneath the onslaught of war machines and alien soldiers.
Ronan's fleet descended upon the defenseless planet, unleashing a torrent of firepower that rained down upon the cityscape. Buildings crumbled, and innocent lives were caught in the crossfire as the Kree forces pushed forward with ruthless efficiency.
The Nova Corps, the defenders of Xandar, fought valiantly, but they were outnumbered and outmatched by Ronan's fanatical army. Despite their best efforts, the outcome seemed bleak as Ronan's forces pressed onward, determined to seize the Power Stone, a relic of immeasurable power hidden within the Nova Corps' vaults.
Amidst the chaos and destruction, a small group of unlikely heroes stood united against the overwhelming tide of darkness. Gamora, the betrayed daughter of Thanos, had joined forces with a group of ragtag misfits known as the Guardians of the Galaxy. Together with Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, the reckless and charismatic leader, the vengeful Drax the Destroyer, the wisecracking Rocket Raccoon, and the gentle yet formidable Groot, they had formed an uneasy alliance to prevent the Power Stone from falling into Ronan's hands.
The Guardians fought with everything they had, each using their unique skills and abilities to hold off the relentless Kree assault. Star-Lord's agile movements and blasters, Drax's brute strength and combat prowess, Rocket's ingenious gadgets and weaponry, Groot's towering presence and regenerative abilities—all combined in a desperate attempt to protect Xandar and the Power Stone.
As the battle raged on, Gamora found herself torn between her loyalty to her new friends and her unresolved feelings for her adoptive father, Thanos. The weight of her past choices hung heavily on her shoulders, fueling her determination to make amends and prevent the Power Stone from causing further devastation in the wrong hands.
In the midst of the destruction, a plan began to take shape. The Guardians hatched a risky scheme to infiltrate Ronan's flagship, the Dark Aster, in a desperate attempt to stop him. They knew that if Ronan got hold of the Power Stone, the entire universe would be at his mercy.
The final showdown between the Guardians and Ronan was a sight to behold. Explosions rocked the ship as the two sides clashed in a high-stakes battle for the fate of Xandar and the Power Stone.
In the heart of the chaos, the Power Stone's immense power began to wreak havoc, threatening to tear apart everything in its vicinity. The Guardians fought with every ounce of strength they had, each motivated by their own personal demons and desires to protect the universe from destruction.
From afar, our time traveling heroes materialized from the Quantum Realm onto the war-torn streets of 2014 Xandar, they quickly took cover behind a toppled building. Aqua, Axel, Rocket, Nebula, and Rhodey peered out from their hiding spot, watching the final showdown between Ronan the Accuser and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
In the midst of the chaos, they saw Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, dancing in a bizarre and unorthodox manner, throwing Ronan off guard. Rocket let out an exasperated sigh, seeing Quill from the past trying to save the universe by dancing.
"So, that's Peter Quill?" asked Aqua, pointing to the dancing leader of The Guardians.
"Yep, that's Quill," he confirmed. "Unfortunately."
Axel couldn't help but raise an eyebrow, confusion evident on his face. "What is he doing? Is this some kind of distraction?" he asked.
Rocket rolled his eyes. "Distraction? Nah, it's just Quill being Quill," he replied with a mix of amusement and frustration. "He called it the 'dance-off to save the universe.'"
Rhodey chimed in with a chuckle. "So, he's an idiot," he remarked, a hint of humor in his voice.
Nebula, who had a more complicated history with Quill, paused for a moment before nodding in agreement. "Yes, he is," she replied, her tone slightly conflicted.
As they continued to watch the strange spectacle, it became apparent that Quill's unorthodox approach had indeed managed to bewilder Ronan. The Kree zealot, once driven by his unyielding convictions, found himself momentarily thrown off balance by the unexpected dance moves.
For a moment, it seemed like Quill's bizarre tactic might actually work. The heroes watched with bated breath, unsure of the outcome of this seemingly unconventional plan.
Aqua couldn't help but let out a small chuckle, appreciating the audacity of Quill's actions. "Well, he's certainly got some... unique ideas," she commented.
Rocket snorted in agreement. "Yeah, unique is one way to put it," he muttered.
As the dance-off continued, the heroes could see the tension and uncertainty in Ronan's expression. For a brief moment, it seemed like the power of music and dance might be the unlikely key to saving Xandar and preventing the Power Stone from falling into the wrong hands.
As the five heroes watched from their hiding spot, they witnessed the intense moment when Peter Quill, with the distraction provided by Rocket, managed to grab the Power Stone from Ronan's grasp. The battlefield was bathed in a radiant purple glow as the stone's immense power surged through the air.
Aqua, attuned to mystical energies, could sense the raw power emanating from the stone. It was overwhelming and potentially dangerous if not handled with care.
Axel, still new to the world of cosmic adventures, couldn't help but be bewildered by the scene unfolding before him. "What's going on?" he asked, seeking clarification from Rocket.
Rocket smirked, his eyes fixed on the Guardians of 2014 as they held onto each other, absorbing the Power Stone's energy. "You'll see," he replied cryptically, knowing the spectacle that was about to unfold.
The Guardians of 2014—Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, and Rocket (holding the twig of Groot)—stood united, with each of them holding a finger to the Power Stone. The aura of power surrounding them was electrifying, and the intense energy surged through their bodies.
Ronan, filled with rage and disbelief, confronted Quill, unable to comprehend how mere mortals could harness the power of the stone. "YOU'RE MORTAL! HOW!?" he shouted in fury.
Peter Quill, standing strong in the face of Ronan's anger, replied with confidence, "You said it yourself, bitch. We're the Guardians of the Galaxy."
As Ronan attempted to impale Quill with the pole of his Warhammer, Peter redirected the Power Stone's surge with astonishing finesse. The energy flowed back towards Ronan, and the Kree's body struggled to contain the stone's immense power.
The battle between Ronan and the Guardians intensified as the Power Stone's energy threatened to overwhelm them all. For a moment, it seemed like the sheer force of the stone would consume them.
But Peter and Gamora acted swiftly, sealing the orb shut to contain the Power Stone's energy before it could continue to devastate them. The Guardians' combined strength and unity allowed them to harness the power of the stone without succumbing to its destructive force.
The battlefield fell silent as the dust settled, and the Power Stone's aura began to wane. The Guardians of the Galaxy had emerged victorious, and the threat of Ronan was no more.
"That was amazing to watch!" Aqua said with amazement, looking towards Rocket from her timeline.
Aqua felt a profound respect for the Guardians' ability to harness such immense power for the greater good. Axel marveled at the courage and resilience of these unlikely heroes, standing up against insurmountable odds. Rocket, despite his usual gruff demeanor, couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in the capabilities of his former self and his newfound allies.
The moment was a testament to the power of unity, the strength of resolve, and the capacity for ordinary beings to become extraordinary heroes. As the Guardians of the Galaxy celebrated their victory, the battlefield of Xandar bore witness to a defining moment—one that would ripple through time and space, leaving a legacy of hope and inspiration.
After witnessing the power of the stone and The Guardians teaming up, the five heroes huddled together, their heads close as Rocket shared his plan to secure the real Orb from Quill's possession.
"Show's over, folks," Rocket declared, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Now, Quill played a trick on Yondu and his Ravagers. He swapped the real Orb with a decoy to fool them. The actual Orb is with Quill, and he's planning to take a leak in those bushes, right over there in about ten minutes." Rocket pointed to a patch of bushes and trees which was untouched by the conflict, somehow.
Rhodey couldn't help but raise an incredulous eyebrow at the unconventional plan. "Seriously? We're going to jump a guy going for a number 1?" he remarked, slightly amused but also finding it rather unusual.
Rocket grinned, his whiskers twitching with delight. "Hey, when you gotta go, you gotta go," he replied, a hint of amusement in his voice. Axel nodded in agreement, recognizing the necessity of seizing the opportunity when it presented itself.
Nebula, ever pragmatic, saw the logic in the plan. "It's the best chance to get the Orb without getting into a heated confrontation with the Nova Corps," she noted, her eyes focused on the task at hand.
Aqua nodded in agreement, understanding the need for stealth and surprise. "Let's move quickly and catch him off guard," she suggested, ready to put the plan into action.
As the five heroes set their plan in motion, they moved with calculated precision. They stealthily approached the spot where Quill was set to take his break, carefully avoiding detection by the Nova Corps and anyone else nearby.
As the time travelers waited in their carefully planned positions, a sudden appearance of a dark portal opened behind the crouching Nebula.. Before she could react, Nebula was snatched away in a flash by a mysterious entity. The remaining heroes were too focused on their mission to notice Nebula's disappearance.
Aqua, crouched behind some debris, sensed the danger but didn't have time to react. Another dark portal opened behind her, and she was swiftly pulled into it. In an instant, Anti-Aqua emerged from the portal, seamlessly taking Aqua's place with her appearance perfectly mimicked to match Aqua of 2019.
Anti-Aqua, a dark reflection of Aqua herself, had mastered the art of deception, able to control her glowing eyes and darkness to blend in seamlessly with her surroundings. No one suspected that Aqua had been replaced.
Unaware of the switch that had occurred, the heroes waited patiently for Quill to make his appearance, all the while oblivious to the presence of Anti-Aqua among them.
Meanwhile, Nebula of 2014, now disguised as her 2019 self, decided to play along and take advantage of the situation. She knew that they needed to continue with their mission and ambush Quill to retrieve the Orb.
Anti-Aqua and Nebula of 2014 worked in tandem, neither revealing their true identities. Nebula played her part, acting as if nothing had happened, while Anti-Aqua watched and waited for the right moment to strike.
The tension in the air was palpable as the heroes held their breath, anticipating Quill's arrival. They were determined to secure the Orb and prevent any further complications, unaware of the sinister plot unfolding around them.
Finally, Quill made his appearance, completely unaware of the deception taking place in the shadows. As he approached the designated spot, Nebula of 2014 played her part, ready to ambush him and seize the real Orb.
But little did they know, they were not the only ones with a hidden agenda. Anti-Aqua, posing as Aqua of 2019, was silently biding her time, waiting for the perfect opportunity to reveal her true colors.
As the triumphant anthem "Come and Get Your Love" continued to echo through the battlefield, Quill couldn't help but express his joy. He started singing the song aloud, dancing a little jig in celebration of their victory against Ronan. The other five time travelers looked at each other with amused but slightly bewildered expressions. Quill's unbridled love for music was a bit unusual, but they knew it was a defining characteristic of the man they called Star-Lord.
"Is he always like this?" Axel whispered to Rocket, who shrugged in response.
"Yeah, pretty much," Rocket replied with a smirk. "The guy's got a thing for old Earth tunes."
As Quill continued to sing and dance, completely absorbed in his own celebration, Rhodey saw an opportunity to execute their plan. In a swift and calculated move, Rhodey activated his War Machine suit's arm and delivered a precisely timed smack to the back of Quill's head. The impact was enough to send Quill tumbling to the ground, unconscious.
The other heroes winced at the force of the blow, but they knew it was necessary to secure the Orb without a heated confrontation. Rhodey had acted swiftly and effectively, taking Quill out of the equation without causing any real harm.
"Smooth move," Axel remarked with a nod of approval. "Now let's get that Orb."
As Quill lay unconscious on the ground, the victorious battle and the song "Come and Get Your Love" now a distant memory, the team quickly regrouped. Rocket, ever nimble, wasted no time and snatched the Orb from Quill's pocket with a satisfied grin.
Rhodey, in his War Machine suit, chuckled at his successful hit on Quill. "That's what you get for singing in the middle of a mission," he quipped, finding humor in the situation.
Axel, though relieved that the plan had worked, couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. He noticed a subtle change in Aqua's demeanor, a hint of unease behind her smile.
"Hey, Aqua, you seem a bit quiet. Is everything okay?" he asked, concerned for his friend.
Aqua hesitated for a moment, her thoughts momentarily clouded. But she quickly composed herself and reassured Axel, "I'm fine, really. Mission accomplished, right?"
Axel nodded, but he couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more beneath the surface. He sensed a lingering presence, a darkness that didn't belong.
Meanwhile, Anti-Aqua, who had taken on Aqua's appearance flawlessly, was adept at concealing her true identity. She knew she had to act the part convincingly to maintain the ruse.
The team shared a moment of camaraderie and victory, unaware of the subtle danger that lurked among them. Axel's instincts were keen, but he couldn't quite put his finger on what was amiss.
As they prepared to make their way back to their rendezvous point, Axel kept a watchful eye on Aqua, unable to shake the feeling that something was not quite right.
In the midst of their celebration, the heroes were blissfully unaware of the web of deception surrounding them. The dark presence of Mephiles lingered, his plans unfolding with each passing moment.
***SANCTUARY II***
In the dark confines of Sanctuary II, Aqua and Nebula of 2019 found themselves bound by the formidable powers of Ebony Maw, using his psychic powers and telekinesis. As Thanos and Mephiles entered the room, the two captured heroes couldn't help but feel a sense of apprehension and concern for the universe's fate.
Thanos looked at Nebula with a mixture of disappointment and intrigue. "Nebula, you have disappointed me with your future actions, but it seems your past self has gained my trust with this mission," he remarked, his deep voice carrying a stern tone.
Aqua, trying to understand the motives behind their capture, boldly asked Mephiles and Thanos, "What do you plan to achieve by capturing us and orchestrating this elaborate scheme?"
Mephiles, his lime green eyes glowing with malice, turned his gaze coldly towards Aqua. "It's simple, Keyblade Master," he replied. "Our goal is to break the Avengers and Guardians of Light from the inside. We will let the heroes unwittingly collect the stones for us, and when the time is right, we will strike."
Thanos nodded in agreement, acknowledging the cunning of Mephiles' plan. "Indeed," he said, "Mephiles' original plan to obtain the stones directly was risky, but having the heroes unwittingly gather them for us is a far more calculated, safe approach. Once they have collected all the stones, we will strike in 2019 when they are all together."
Mephiles added confidently, "Some of the heroes on their missions might have encountered obstacles, but rest assured, they will overcome them and return the stones to 2019 for us to use."
The gravity of the situation weighed heavily on Aqua and Nebula as they realized the magnitude of the threat posed by this alliance between Thanos and Mephiles. The fate of the universe hung in the balance, and the heroes they had fought alongside were unwittingly being led into a trap.
Aqua's mind raced with thoughts of her friends and allies spread across time and space, each on a mission to collect the stones. She knew she had to warn them and thwart this diabolical plan.
As Mephiles laid out the intricacies of his plan, Aqua and Nebula of 2019 were stunned to learn that they had been replaced by their past counterparts. Aqua's heart sank as she heard that her past self, lost and consumed by darkness, was willingly aiding Mephiles in his sinister scheme. Nebula, on the other hand, knew that her past self had been desperate for her father's approval, making her a willing pawn in Thanos' plan.
With a mix of anger and determination, Aqua declared, "You won't get away with this! We will find a way to stop you!"
Thanos looked at her with a hint of amusement. "You are quite confident for someone in your situation," he said, his deep voice echoing through the room.
"How do they intend to travel back to the future? Time travel is not something to be taken lightly." Aqua asked, still bound by Maw's powers.
Aqua's question about time travel was met with a cold and calculated response from Mephiles. He opened his palm to reveal vials of Pym Particles, the key to traversing the Quantum Realm. "You are not the only ones with access to Pym Particles," he stated. "I managed to acquire some myself, and I also obtained the Time-Space GPS devices and Time Travel suits from another point in time to ensure Anti-Aqua and Nebula of 2014 can safely travel to the future."
A shiver of dread ran down Aqua's spine as she realized the gravity of their situation. Their enemies were not only powerful but also cunning and prepared. The odds were stacked against them, and the fate of the universe hung in the balance.
Mephiles continued with a sinister smile, "You see, we have planned every step meticulously. With the GPS Devices, Time Travel suits and the Pym Particles, Anti-Aqua and Nebula will seamlessly blend into your timeline without raising any suspicion. And by the time the heroes gather all the stones, we will be ready to strike."
Aqua's mind raced, searching for a glimmer of hope amid the darkness that surrounded them. She knew that they had to act swiftly and cleverly to thwart Mephiles and Thanos' sinister plan.
In the darkness of the Sanctuary II, a dangerous game of manipulation and deception unfolded. Aqua and Nebula knew they had to find a way to outwit their captors and warn their friends about the impending danger.
But with time and space against them, the heroes faced their greatest challenge yet. The fate of the universe depended on their bravery, their unity, and their willingness to face the darkness that threatened to engulf them all.
As they waited for an opportunity to break free, Aqua and Nebula knew that the path ahead was uncertain and perilous. But they also knew that they could not falter, for the fate of the universe rested on their shoulders. With determination in their hearts, they prepared to face whatever challenges lay ahead and to stand united against the forces of darkness that sought to destroy everything they held dear. The battle against Mephiles and Thanos had just begun, and the true test of their strength and resolve was yet to come.
However, two more Children of Thanos entered the room. Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive made their imposing presence known and added to the gravity of the situation. With Inhibitor bounds in hand, they swiftly moved to subdue Aqua and Nebula. Proxima placed a metal muzzle over Aqua's mouth, silencing her ability to command magic or summon her Keyblade. Nebula, too, was gagged to prevent her from speaking or using any of her cybernetic enhancements.
Maw's telekinetic powers kept the two heroes suspended in the air, rendering them helpless against the Children of Thanos. Aqua's hands were bound in the Inhibitor bounds, preventing her from accessing her Keyblade or unleashing her powerful magic. Nebula's hands were similarly tied together, leaving her without the use of her cybernetic abilities.
Aqua's eyes blazed with determination despite the restraints, and she glared defiantly at Thanos and Mephiles. "You won't succeed," she managed to mumble, her voice muffled by the metal muzzle.
Thanos, seemingly unfazed by Aqua's defiance, ordered his Children to take them to the bowels of the ship and ensure they could not escape. Proxima, Corvius, and Ebony Maw accepted the task without question, their loyalty to Thanos unyielding.
The heroes were led away, their hands bound and their abilities nullified, leaving them at the mercy of their captors. As they were escorted through the dark and foreboding corridors of Sanctuary II, Aqua and Nebula knew they had to find a way to break free and warn their friends about the sinister alliance between Thanos and Mephiles.
Yet, even in their dire situation, their spirits remained unbroken. They had faced overwhelming odds before and emerged victorious. They knew that as long as they remained united and resolute, they still had a chance to thwart Mephiles and Thanos' wicked plans.
As they were taken deeper into the heart of the ship, Aqua and Nebula steeled themselves for the challenges ahead. The fate of the universe depended on their bravery and cunning, and they were determined to stand against the darkness that threatened to consume everything they held dear.
In the depths of Sanctuary II, the heroes' struggle had only just begun. The true test of their strength and unity was yet to come, and they knew that they had to stay vigilant and resourceful if they were to have any hope of stopping Mephiles and Thanos and saving the universe from their malevolent grasp
