Long ago, in the vastness of the sea, there was only one creature. Named the "Origin Demon," it would roam around the sea in search for more life. Eventually, the beast grew tired of there being no other life in the sea, and as a result, it charged all of the power inside of itself and combusted; with the goal of destroying the Earth's oceans.
Instead, the explosion somehow created sea life, and the ocean was full of beings besides itself. It has been said that the Sea Kings, descendents of the Origin Demon, created the Devil Fruits using their power. But what if the Origin Demon somehow created one with it's power? That was the question on the mind of rookie scientist Howard Stein. Howard was researching this this topic for as long as he could remember after he first heard about the Origin Demon, collecting notes from past scientists on the matter.
Howard lives on Lucky Island in Rabbit Foot Village along with his grandmother Eunice and his 3 year old brother Eight. Lucky Island is on the outskirts of the Grand Line, so lots of Sea Kings and possibly even Devil Fruits reside there. He had heard rumors of a small island appearing in an area that is even closer to the Grand Line. Hearing this, Howard had grabbed his boat and sailed right to the island.
"Woah!" Howard exclaimed as he looked at the island. The island is very colorful, with each leaf on every tree on the island being a different color. There were strange flowers on the ground that Howard had never seen before. He traversed the strange island a bit, and ended up getting lost at every turn. He eventually came to the middle of the island, and he saw a strange purple and black root emerging out of the ground. "What the hell..." He said. It was like the root was glowing a golden hue.
He took the root back to his makeshift laboratory to investigate further. One day, his younger brother Eight was looking for him while he was out. He figured out where his lab was due to following him there. "Howard? Hello! Where are you?" Eight says, looking around at stuff in Howard's lab. He eventually comes across the root, admiring it's colors. "Ooh, a pretty lookin' snack! I was getting hungry too!" He exclaimed as he grabbed the root and shoved it in his mouth.
"Okay, I got all the necessary materials to expiriment further... Let me jus-" Before Howard could finish speaking, he saw Eight in the lab. "EIGHT! How did you get in!? Aww man I hope the root is okay!" Howard says as he looked over to where he left the root. Shocked, Howard looks over at Eight, who is still chewing the root. "Oh no no no no no! Eight spit it out, spit it out!" Howard screams.
Eight swalows the root and Howard angrily smacks him on the head. "Eight, do you realize what you've done?" Howard says while shaking his brother "All of my research on this thing is pointless now! I thought I was close to finding it..." Eight's stomach grumbles. "Hey bro, my tummy hu-" Eight started to burp before he finished talking. Eventually, he burped up a black and crimson fire. "What... was that?" Howard asks. "That wasn't normal, that's for sure!" Eight replies enthusiastically.
Howard's eyes light up. "Holy crap, you just burped fire! It's like a Logia Devil Fruit!" He says, while grabbing his notes on the Origin Fruit. "Logie... what?" Eight asks. "Logia! It's a type of Devil Fruit, you've heard of them right?" Howard replies. "Oh yeah, those fruits that give you superpowers like superheroes... Am I a superhero!? Oh man, I gotta tell gra-" Howard grabs Eight before he could leave. "No, we CAN NOT tell Grandma, or else we both will get in trouble!" Howard says.
Eight makes a face and starts whimpering. "I-I don't wanna get in trouble!" He exclaims. Howard smiles. "Exactly! Which is why you are gonna help me with my research!" Howard begins to laugh like a villain, causing Eight to cry. For the next 3 years, Howard helped Eight learn how to use his newfound powers.
3 years later, Howard was on a trip to go visit a place said to have been full of Devil Fruits. Little did he know, he somehow became famous for finding the Origin Fruit and he was murdered for his knowledge.
Eight figured out, and has been living alone with his grandma ever since, reading his brothers notes.
