Disclaimer: This story has nothing to do with Lothcat1138's story (Star Wars: Into The Unknown). The fact that my story is using the same title is purely a coincidence, I came up with this title before I found his story. Also I don't own Star Wars Rebels, or any of the star wars character showing up in this story. (If I did own star wars, the Ashoka series wouldn't be live action).

"And remember, the force will be with you, always…"

Constant pain, that was all Ezra felt as the ship jumped into hyperspace. His body screamed at him to let go, lay down, anything to ease the pain. But he knew he couldn't. He felt the Purrgill, they wanted to know where to take the ships. "As far away from Lothal as possible." was all Ezra could think. Then everything went dark.

Ezra opened his eyes. Something felt off. He wasn't in his bunk, he didn't hear Zeb snoring beneath him, and the ceiling looked different.

It took him a moment to realise where he was. He got up and looked around the bridge of the star destroyer. Most of the crew still there seemed to be knocked out. On the other side of the bridge he saw Thrawn lying on the ground. Shields had activated around the windows to prevent everything from being sucked into space.

Ezra shook his head. He felt the pain in his shoulder, where Thrawn had shot him during their battle over Lothal. He tried reaching out with the force, to see if the Purrgil were anywhere nearby, but he felt nothing. They were already gone. Suddenly he saw movement, one of the imperial officers was starting to wake up. Ezra reacted quickly, grabbed a blaster nearby and stunned the officer. Then the situation dawned on him. He was alone on a star destroyer, filled with thousands of imperials who probably wanted him dead. He had to get out of there. But how? He looked around the bridge. His eyes caught a vent. He rushed over, opened it, threw his blaster in, climbed inside, closed it behind him and started crawling. He had no idea where to go, but he figured it was best to get as far away from the bridge as possible. Then he would figure out what to do next.

After an hour of crawling, climbing, and sliding through the vents Ezra felt tired. Facing the Emperor, fighting his way to the bridge, communicating with the purrgil, and his shoulder wound had all taken their toll on him. As he laid his head down his thoughts went to his friends, to Lothal. Had his sacrifice worked? Was the empire gone from Lothal? Had Chopper shown his message to the others? These questions plagued his head as he fell asleep.

Elsewhere in the unknown regions

...

"Myra wake up!"

Myra opened her eyes, to see her brother Adrian standing next to her bed with a big smile.

"Good morning Adrian."

"Good morning sis, are you ready for today?"

"Uhm, what was today again?"

She could see he wanted to roll his eyes. But he didn't. "Today" he said in a formal voice, "is the day my little sister joins me in the Space Defense and Exploration force."

As he was saying this Myra felt herself fill with excitement. "Did you really have to say that in such a voice." she laughed.

He glanced at her, "well since you seemed to have forgotten…"

"You wake me up and expect me to remember everything in the first millisecond?"

"Fair point" Adrian's smile still hadn't left his face. "You should come downstairs as soon as you've changed, mom and dad are preparing a special breakfast."

With these words Adrian left. Myra started changing her clothes. While she was doing this she couldn't stop herself from smiling. It had been her dream to join the SDEF for a long time now, and she'd worked really hard to get accepted on a ship. Of course Adrian already working there helped too. She had wanted to go to space for as long as she could remember.

As soon as Myra was done changing she practically jumped down the stairs. Her mother and Adrian were already sitting at the table, and her father walked into the room with a bowl filled with a fruit salad moments later.

"Special delivery for our special girl." He said with a smile.

"My favourite salad! Thanks dad!" Myra looked in the bowl.

"Of course", he still smiled. "Figured the best way to start a special day is with your favourite meal"

Myra dug into her salad, making sure to enjoy every bite. Adrian had told her they'd be eating the exact same meal every day for the next three weeks, so she wanted to enjoy this special meal while she still could.

"Are you ready?" Her father asked after they finished. Myra nodded. "Alright then, let's go." Her father gestured to Adrian to follow them as well.

As they stood outside the house her mother came after them. "Take care Myra" she said, while pulling her daughter into a hug.

"I will mom," Myra promised.

"And if she doesn't, I'll take care of her for you " Adrian called from the speeder.

Their mother briefly smiled at him, then looked back at Myra. She took a step back, and watched as the speeder drove away.

Ezra opened his eyes. Did he hear a voice up ahead? Ignoring the pain in his shoulder, he pulled himself towards the sound. He reached another vent exit where he could hear several distinct voices talking.

"The damage is pretty bad sir, we might be able to repair the damage to the engine, but we don't have enough fuel to make it to imperial space, even if we found a way to navigate through whatever we find here in the unknown regions." a female voice sounded.

Ezra almost let out a gasp, they were in the unknown regions? His plan to get rid of the imperials had worked even better than he'd hoped. If they were lost in the unknown regions, there would be no way Thrawn and his fleet would threaten Lothal, or the rest of the galaxy, any time soon.

"That remains to be seen. Get to work on the engines, see if you can contact any of the other ships, find out their losses and what resources they have left, and report your findings in my office." Ezra heard Thrawn's calm voice respond.

"Right away sir," the female voice answered.

"And you," it sounded like he was talking to someone else now, "find the jedi, set your weapons to stun, we need him alive."

"Yes sir!" a stormtrooper answered.

Ezra heard several people walking away in different directions. He thought for a moment. Thrawn said he wanted him alive. Why? He shook his head, it didn't matter. These imperials had tried to blow up his home, there was no way he'd help them. He had to get off the ship. Maybe he could steal something from the hangar.

Ezra kept crawling for several hours, his thoughts often with his friends. When he passed Thrawn's office he took a quick break to look at the wall with Sabine's art one last time.

Ezra was almost at the hangar when an alarm went off outside the vents, followed by commands being yelled in the distance. He felt waves of vibrations going through the ship as if something had exploded on the outside. Were they under attack? He crawled until he was near an exit of the ventilation system. Through the small holes he saw stormtroopers and crew members running around. This was either a drill or indeed an attack, and based on the vibrations Ezra was willing to bet it was the latter.

He started thinking, maybe he could use the chaos of the battle to escape. But how? In a battle like this the hangar would probably be full of imperials, and he needed a ship with a hyperdrive. He decided he would go to the hangar first and figure out a plan once he got there.

As he kept crawling he still felt vibrations from the battle going through the ship. He kept checking exits to the ventilation system to see where on the ship he was. At some point he looked through it and saw a TIE fighter. Was he at the hangar already? He looked again and spotted several other TIE fighters, a couple of gunships, a TIE defender and a shuttle. Most of them looked in bad shape.

"This must be the maintenance bay," Ezra softly said to himself. It was probably easier to steal a ship from here than from the main hangar.

He looked at the ships. The only ones with hyperdrives were the shuttle and the Defender. The shuttle looked like it was missing quite a few parts, making it unsuitable for travelling, so he chose the Defender.

Right as Ezra wanted to drop out of the vent a door opened.

"Any damage in here?" A stormtrooper's voice sounded.

A few moments later another voice answered "Negative".

"What about the Jedi?"

"No sign of him either."

"Alright, let's move to the next compartment."

The doors closed. Ezra waited a few moments and then checked if the troopers were indeed gone. He then jumped down and quietly made his way to the Defender.

Once inside he took a quick look at the controls. It wasn't the first time he'd flown a defender, so it only took him a few moments to get familiar.

He then looked out of the window. The only way to get out was through the doors to the main hangar, which were closed.

Ezra opened fire on the doors, but with no effect. Did this thing still have its torpedoes? It didn't look like that. "Karabast," Ezra cursed out loud.

He looked at the doors again. They looked damaged, but not in a way that would help him.

Before Ezra could think of a solution the shields activated. The ship was taking blaster fire, the stormtroopers had found him!

In panic Ezra pushed the controls forward and the defender smashed into the doors, crippling the tips of the wings. His cannons now no longer worked. But he noticed the doors looked way more damaged than before. He flew the ship backwards, and then smashed into the doors again. As he flew backwards he saw the shields were starting to fail, and the stormtroopers were still firing. "Come on" he grunted as he smashed the ship into the doors again. This time it was enough, and he left a defender shaped hole behind.

Ezra now found himself in the main hangar. It was full of stormtroopers, but before they could react the Defender's engines kicked in and the ship flew into the vacuum of space.

There Ezra was greeted by the largest space battle he had ever seen. The damaged imperial fleet was facing off against another unknown big fleet. This fleet didn't look like rebel ships. In fact they didn't look like any ships that Ezra had ever seen, or even heard about.

Suddenly Ezra spotted a ship from the other fleet coming towards him. Before he could react it opened fire on the defender.

Steering as hard as he could, Ezra was barely able to avoid the bolts of energy in the crippled Defender. He knew he had to get out of there. As the other ship turned around, preparing for another run, the navicomputer lit up, alerting Ezra that it couldn't calculate a jump in this section of space. Panic started rising through Ezra's body, as the other ship fired on him again. Suddenly he heard, or rather felt, a voice which almost sounded like Kanan.

"Trust in the force"

With moments to spare, Ezra shut down the navicomputer and the Defender jumped blind into hyperspace.

Once in hyperspace he let out a sigh of relief. He tried to relax now that he was out of danger. But something felt off, like the force was trying to tell him something.

No it wasn't telling him something, it was warning him. Before Ezra could react his reflexes kicked it, pulling the controls to the left. The ship changed its course and Ezra felt the danger going away. The sudden movement was followed by more pain in his shoulders, but Ezra knew there was nothing he could do about it, all he could do was give it as much rest as possible. Before he was able to relax however, he felt the danger again, and his reflexes reacted again. Following this there was a brief break. Ezra considered leaving hyperspace, blind jumps like this were dangerous after all. But he also knew he'd be as good as dead if he exited hyperspace nowhere near a star system or planet. Ezra sighed. Like Kanan's voice, or whatever it was, had said, all he could do was trust in the force now

Myra was barely able to contain her excitement as she and Adrian followed the SDEF officer. She had said goodbye to her father when they arrived at the base. While they were walking Myra made sure to look around, she'd never been inside a spaceport before.

The SDEF officer stopped in front of a hangar. "Here is your assigned ship," She said, before turning around and walking back.

Myra looked into the hangar. There she saw a light freighter. A few people were standing in front of it. "Hey Sam, look who's here!" Her brother shouted.

The people turned around. One of them, a blonde woman, started walking towards Adrian and Myra.

"Good to see you Adrian" she nodded once she arrived.

"Good to see you too Samantha" Adrian nodded back.

The woman then turned towards Myra. "And this must be your sister, Myra the explorer." Myra blushed a bit when hearing the nickname Adrian often called her. The woman held out her hand. "Adrian has told us quite a lot about you. I'm commander Sanko, but you may call me Samantha. Or Sam, whichever you prefer."

Myra took her hand and shook it. "Yes commander Saman-"

"Just call me Samantha, we're not as strict as the academy makes us out to be."

Myra nodded. "Yes Samantha."

Samantha turned around and gestured for them to follow. "Come, time to meet your new crewmates." Myra and Adrian followed her.

"This," Samantha pointed at one of the other two crewmembers standing next to the ship, "is Johnny, he's my copilot."

"Hi Myra." Johnny waved. Myra waved back, not knowing what to say.

"And this is Adam, he's our onboard mechanic." Samantha continued.

"Welcome aboard Myra," Adam held out his hand, "I hope you'll have a great time with us on the ship."

"Thank you," Myra said, shaking his hand. "I hope so too."

The pain in Ezra's shoulder threatened to take over his entire body. Navigating through hyperspace using the force was not something he had done before, or trained to do, and it was taking a toll on him. He was feeling exhausted. The last time he'd properly slept was before the battle against the empire on Lothal began, and aside from being knocked out on the bridge of Thrawn's star destroyer, and a brief nap in the ventilation system, it had all been action since then. A black border started appearing around his vision. As his body automatically reacted to the warnings from the force, he started seeing memories.

His father playing with him in the grass.

His mother hugging him as he fell asleep.

Playing with other kids in his neighbourhood.

Meeting the Ghost crew for the first time.

Practising lightsaber forms with Kanan.

Repainting the TIE fighter with Sabine.

Getting flight lessons from Hera

Playing pranks on Chopper

Watching the sunset on Atollon with Zeb.

He missed them, his family.

Suddenly he felt a change in the force, like he was supposed to do something again. Barely conscious, he reached out with his hand to bring the ship out of hyperspace. The last thing he saw were the blue lines of hyperspace turning into dakness as he passed out.

Author's note: This story is going to be quite different from other post-rebels stories. Most of the Rebels cast will likely not show up, at least not in the present (maybe in flashbacks, we'll see). I might write a seperate story for Thrawn later on, but I'll need to read his canon novels for that first. I'm trying to keep this as canon compliant as possible, other than of course Ashoka and whatever other shows/movies feature Ezra in the future.

I don't really have a schedule for releasing chapters, I'll just release new chapters whenever I get the motivation and time to write them. Hopefully that means at least one chapter per month. Anyways, thanks to everyone who took the time to read this. Make sure to let me know if you have any feedback.
