Scaling the mountain was fun and easy for Sonic because it only took fifteen minutes to get to Goron City. There, the little hedgehog began to search for Scarlet Scorch. He knew she was the one with the next spiritual stone, but what could he do to get her to trust him? First, Sonic had to find her. Luckily, a goron was rolling by. "Excuse me, wait!" Sonic called after him. The goron stopped rolling. "Oh, a hedgehog. Hello, hedgehog," he said. "Welcome to Goron City. We are gorons. We're gentle giant creatures. We only eat rocks. You wouldn't taste good because you're too pointy," the goron said with a laugh. Sonic laughed too. "That's funny," he said. "But I'm looking for the Scarlet Scorch. She has the spiritual stone?"
"Oh yes," said the goron. "Of course, little hedgehog. You can find her in her room on the first floor."
"Got it. Thanks," Said Sonic. "Remember," the goron called after Sonic when the little hedgehog raced off. "The Scarlet Scorch is our leader so prove yourself if you want the stone!"
Sonic had to push open a big heavy door to get to Scarlet Scorch's room. But soon, there she was, the Scarlet Scorch herself, a superhero completely made out of fire, relaxing on a couch made entirely of molten rock. She was wearing a golden tiara with the spiritual stone of fire embedded in it. Sonic came forward and knelt before her. "Excuse me? Are you the Scarlet Scorch?"
"I'm busy," came the reply. "I am too tired and grumpy to talk." Sonic could see that the fire goddess was in a bit of a bad mood, so with his ocarina, he played "Saria's Song." And just like that, the fire goddess began dancing. "Whoo! What a hot beat!" she exclaimed. Then, she turned to the hedgehog. "Hello, little hedgehog," she said, much more calmly. "I am the Scarlet Scorch, champion of extreme heat. I am responsible for guarding the spiritual stone of fire." Sonic smiled, but then Scarlet Scorch continued "But if you want the spiritual stone, you will have to prove yourself first."
"What will I have to do?" asked Sonic. And so Scarlet Scorch began her story.
The cave where the most delicious rocks are for the gorons has been blocked. It is known as the Dodongo's Cavern. It is where the most delicious and nutritious rocks are that the gorons like to eat. Gorons are perfectly harmless as their only food is rocks. They have a super strong jaw and extra strong teeth which is how they are able to eat rocks.
"I know what you're thinking," she said. "There are rocks all over the mountain. Well, you're right. But the gorons have been so depressed lately that they can't access their favourite rocks and I can't get them to eat rocks from anywhere else. Sonic," she continued. "You are the only one who can unblock the cave and destroy the monsters. Please."
"Okay," said Sonic. "Thank you," said Scarlet Scorch. "If you can open the cave and destroy the evil monsters, I might consider giving you the stone. But I can give you this. I'm sure it will be helpful to you." And she gave Sonic a golden bracelet which he put on his left wrist. "That's a goron bracelet," she explained. "When you wear it, you will be given superhuman strength. You'll be strong enough to pick up our most popular harvest here: Bomb flowers. They weigh a ton. They're much heavier than they look."
"Wow, this is cool," said Sonic. "Thank you."
"You're welcome," said Scarlet Scorch. "Good luck, little hedgehog."
And with that, Sonic hurried off. When he came to the top of a small hill, he saw a wall with a slight crack in it. That must be the Dodongo's Cavern, he thought to himself. He picked up a bomb flower that was growing nearby. The flower felt as light as a feather. Sonic shouted "Heads up!" as he threw the flower beside the wall. It made the wall explode. And just like that, the cave entrance was open. Sonic hurried down towards it. There was a goron waiting nearby. "Wow, you're smart, using the bomb flowers to open the cave," he said. "Thanks," said Sonic. The goron handed Sonic a small black bag. "Here, little hedgehog," he said. "This is a bomb bag. It's full of bombs. You'll need it to defeat the monsters in the cave, so be sure to pick up lots of bombs along the way."
"I will," said Sonic. "Thank you." And with the bomb bag, Sonic raced off into Dodongo's Cavern.
