Juliana hesitated at Penny's door for only a moment before knocking. After a ten second delay, the door opened to reveal Atticus without his hood on, "Greetings Juliana! Hast thou come to visit?"
"Ah, Atticus! I didn't know you'd be here!" Juliana exclaimed.
Penny walked up behind him, "Hey Juliana, he kinda dropped in by surprise. So, we were just in here playing games and talking. He's been here for an hour."
Atticus declared, "Alas! I was eager to see my dear Penny! Though nothing would delight me more than to spend more time with her, I shall depart for now! I am aware you two are having a, what's it called? A girls night in?"
Penny nodded, "Something like that."
Juliana smiled awkwardly, "Yeah, that's right. Heh…"
"Well then, I shall allow you ladies space!" Atticus put his hood back on, "I will see thou another day!" He took Penny's hand and kissed it, "For now, farewell!" With that, he disappeared just as quickly as he appeared. The girls watched him leave before they retreated into Penny's room.
Juliana looked around at the dark room, lit only by the glow of the computer screens. A Leafeon that had been laying down nearby perked it's ears up and turned upon detecting another visitor. The grass type stretched out it's front paws and stood, shaking itself awake.
Penny stated, "You remember my Leafeon, right?"
The grass Pokémon approached Juliana and sniffed her legs.
Juliana acknowledged, "Aww, how cute!" as she squatted to pet Leafeon, "Yes, I remember Leafeon, so adorable!"
Penny smiled, "That's good because she definitely remembers you. A cool thing about Leafeon is if I ever need my room refreshed, I open a window and let her sunbathe. Doing that purifies the air."
Juliana looked at Penny with curious eyes, "Wow! I didn't know that."
"It's because a Leafeon's cellular structure is similar to plants." Penny explained, "She gets her nutrients that way too."
Juliana opened her rotom phone, and the dex read to her,
"Leafeon, the Verdant Pokémon.
A Grass type. Like plants, Leafeon photosynthesize and generate extremely fresh air. When you see Leafeon asleep in a patch of sunshine, you'll know it is using photosynthesis to produce clean air."
Penny smirked, "See?"
"That's so cool!" Juliana stated while putting her phone away, "I bet my mom would love a Leafeon! I should try to get her one."
Penny inquired, "Does your mom like grass types?"
"She likes all kinds of Pokémon. But she loves to garden. She grows her own vegetables in our yard at home."
Penny nodded, "Oh yeah, then she would definitely love one. I caught mine as an Eevee and evolved it with a Leaf stone. Your mom could do the same. If you need a leaf stone, I have a few to spare."
"Oh, thanks Penny! I'll keep that in mind and let you know when I need one!"
Juliana couldn't help but notice the array of cardboard boxes stacking up against the wall. As hard as she tried not to stare, she just couldn't help herself. Penny noticed this and explained, "Yeah, I order a lot of things online. Heh… please excuse the mess."
"Ah! So that's what all these boxes are?"
Penny sheepishly admitted, "Yeah, I like shopping online. I buy mostly posters, manga, and also take-out."
"I see… heh."
At that moment, a shadowy figure leapt out of the pile, making both girls yelp. When the figure landed in front of them, they could see what it was.
"Umbreon!" Penny scolded, while the dark type snickered. The gold rings on his body glowed softly.
With her hand over her heart, Juliana took a deep breath, "Oh my gosh… it's an Umbreon! I remember you too!" She squatted to take a closer look, "You're so pretty up close." Umbreon allowed Juliana to stroke his head. By then, Leafeon had walked away and leapt onto Penny's bed, curling up next to a sleeping Jolteon.
Penny grinned, "He likes to play in the boxes; that's why I keep them, and he's most active at night. You know, being an Umbreon and all…"
Juliana agreed, "Of course."
Her rotom dex read to her,
"Umbreon, the Moonlight Pokémon.
A Dark type. As a nocturnal Pokémon, Umbreon's large eyes can distinguish prey even during the darkest of nights. When exposed to the moon's aura, the rings on its body glow faintly and it gains a mysterious power."
"Wow, that's really cool." Juliana noted. She also noticed a Flareon and Vaporeon sleeping in the kitchen area. Flareon was on the floor, and Vaporeon stretched out in the sink which contained a small pool of water.
"Ready to watch another episode?" Penny broke the silence.
"Yes, I am!" Juliana agreed, "I've been wondering what happens next!"
"All right, just a sec." Penny replied, amused at Juliana's eagerness. She then walked to her monitors and pushed her chair to the side. She then grabbed a bean bag chair from the foot of her bed and plopped it down next to the chair.
"Have a seat." Penny invited.
"Will do." Juliana took a seat in the comfortable bean bag and removed her shoes while Penny set up the episode on the screen. Once she hit play, she took a seat next to Juliana as the theme song played.
Director Clavell watched the analog clock resting on his desk, just after 11 pm.
He stared at the four ultra balls in front of him, took a deep breath and grabbed one. He stood and tucked it under his blazer before exiting his office. He walked purposefully down the empty hallway, taking care to not let anyone see him.
He's proud of the progress he made, but despite that, he isn't finished. Three of the four have been tamed no problem, only one remains rogue. And it's proven itself to be one not so easily controlled. The director knew he had his work cut out for him from the beginning, despite this, he remained resolute. Nothing was going to stop him.
Once he got himself outside the academy, he took a flying taxi to Glaseado Mountain in the North Province. Once there, ensuring no one would see him, he disappeared into the snowy wilderness.
Now out in the wild with nothing but the falling snow around him. Director Clavell took the ultra ball containing the rogue Pokémon. He stared at it for a few moments.
"All right you, come on out." He commanded in a gentle voice, tossing the Poke ball in the air.
From the light, emerged the Ruinous Pokémon known as Chien-Pao. The feline Pokémon stretched out its elongated body before observing its surroundings. It turned to face the director, who stared at it back without fear.
Chien-Pao let out a low growl, the type that would make anyone's skin crawl. Director Clavell stood his ground, but he had to admit that he felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. Clavell spoke to the Pokémon, "I brought you to a snowy environment today. I thought that would be more comfortable for you."
"Grrr…." Chien-Pao growled, the whiskers around it's mouth moved with it's breathing. The ruin Pokémon kept it's eyes locked on the director.
Clavell smiled, "You are much calmer now than you were a few nights ago. So, this was a good idea."
Chien-Pao responded with a hiss, letting the Director know it was still willing to fight. Unfazed, Clavell approached the Pokémon and put a hand out, "Can I come closer?"
Chien-Pao backed away with another low growl, giving Clavell plenty of warning.
"You're showing a lot more restraint." Clavell complimented, pulling back his sleeve to reveal an old scratch from a few nights back, "It's progress."
Chien-Pao stared at him silently. Clavell decided it was okay to proceed with his plan, he took out a glass of Moo Moo milk and a bowl that he had brought with him. Placing the bowl on the ground, he poured some milk into the bowl and pushed it toward the legendary.
Initially, Chien-Pao kept itself locked into place, staring at the bowl and the director. After several minutes, the ruin Pokémon cautiously approached the bowl and sniffed at the milk. Seconds later, it began to lick up the milk.
Clavell felt joy swell in his heart, but he kept calm. After letting the feline drink for a few minutes, he reached for the Pokémon again. This time he was able to pet Chien-Pao and give him a gentle scratching behind the ears.
"Wow, your fur is quite chilly." Clavell observed. The ice crystals along the Pokemon's back sparkled with the glow of the moon.
Once Chien-Pao finished the milk, he moved away from the director, giving him a look. Clavell could tell from the look that the Pokémon was done for the night. Clavell, satisfied with the progress, recalled Chien-Pao and gathered his belongings.
Now alone, Clavell stared up at the dark sky. The stars twinkled bright, the falling snow catching the light of the moon as they danced in the sky. A certain someone had crossed his mind at that moment, and he couldn't help but think aloud, "My dear Sada… you must think I'm insane."
The spirit of Sada watched from several feet away, "That's because you are insane, Director." She chuckled to herself.
When Juliana woke up the next morning, she was surprised to find herself still seated in the bean bag chair in Penny's room. In addition, she had a neck cushion around her neck and a blanket with an anime character on it across her body.
"What the…? What happened?" She whispered. She looked around the room and saw Penny asleep in her bed, faintly snoring.
"Oh my gosh… did I fall asleep in here? How embarrassing…"
She quickly removed the neck cushion and placed it on the floor, then lightly tossed the blanket off herself and went into the open bathroom. Looking in the mirror, Juliana smoothed down bits of her hair that were sticking up. She paused upon hearing movement in the other room.
"Juliana? You still here?" The voice of Penny called to her.
Juliana rushed out quickly, "Yeah, I'm here."
Penny was sat up in her bed, stretching her arms above her head, "Whew, those were some good episodes last night, right?"
Juliana did remember, they ended up watching more than one episode. Each one was just as compelling as the other.
"We watched three episodes, didn't we?" Juliana asked.
Penny grinned, "Correction: I did. You fell asleep in the middle of the third episode. I didn't notice until the episode ended. I looked over at you and you were out like a light, heheh…"
Juliana put a hand on her forehead, "I'm so sorry…"
Penny laughed it off, "No worries. I did try to wake you, but you were too far into dreamland. So, I made you comfortable and went to sleep myself."
Juliana stretched by lightly twisting her torso with her arms out, "Well, thankfully I don't really have anything to do today. How about you?"
"I don't either, wanna watch the episode you fell asleep on?"
"Yeah, let's do that!" Juliana agreed.
Penny smiled and went to turn on her monitors, Juliana sat back down in the bean bag chair and noticed Penny's Sylveon had walked up beside her. The fairy type stared at her with dazzling blue eyes.
Juliana smiled and pet the Pokémon, Penny noticed and spoke, "She's the angel of the group. Of course, that could be because that's her nature."
"She sure looks like one." Juliana noted, "Now, let's get the episode started!"
Penny hit the play button and sat in her chair, both watched as the theme song played.
When they got to the middle of the episode, Juliana whispered, "This is about where I fell asleep I think." Penny nodded in response.
Juliana's face flushed when she saw what she missed. They were at a scene where two of the attractive male characters were holding onto one another like they were a couple in love. Juliana glanced over at Penny and saw her with her hands up to her mouth, her face was also red.
"To be honest, I went crazy over this part the first time I saw it… heheh…." Penny admitted shyly.
Juliana, feeling a bit bashful herself, confessed, "This is honestly pretty cute…"
Penny laughed, "I also love how the main female character is secretly loving this so much. Because of what it is, you know?"
Juliana nodded. Suddenly, both girls were surprised by a knock on the door.
"Hey Penny? You in there?" Arven's voice startled them both.
Juliana gasped, "Turn it off, turn it off!" she frantically whispered. Penny leapt out of her seat and closed the browser playing the anime. Once it was gone, Juliana exhaled in relief, "Sheesh, what is he doing?"
"I'll find out." Penny walked to the door. Out of sight, Juliana heard the door open and Penny talking, "Hey Arven, what's up?"
"Hey Penny, sorry for coming by in the morning like this. I was just wondering if Juliana was here."
"Uh…" Penny responded.
Juliana hastily put her shoes on and called out to him, "I'm here Arven!" She jumped up and walked to the door, where she saw Penny and Arven standing in the doorway.
"Here she is." Penny stated.
Juliana smiled, "Hi Arven!"
Arven sighed, "Oh, there you are Juliana! I dropped by your room to ask if you wanted to get breakfast. But you weren't there, so I got a little worried."
"Huh?" Juliana replied, "Oh…! Oh my gosh I'm so sorry!"
Penny grinned, "She fell asleep in here last night, heheh…"
"It was an accident!" Juliana defended.
This made Arven laugh, "Seriously!? Ahahaha! Yeah, that sounds just the thing Juliana would do!"
"You're one to talk!" Juliana retorted with her face reddening.
Penny raised an eyebrow, "Oh really? How so?"
Juliana's eyes widened realizing what she said, she felt steam coming out of her ears, "It's not important!" She protested.
"Interesting." Penny replied in a teasing voice.
After some chuckling, Arven stated, "Actually Juliana, there's something I need to talk to you about. Do you have time now?"
Juliana looked at Penny, who gave her an assuring wave, "Don't worry Juliana, we can hang out some other time." She looked at Arven, "She's all yours buddy."
Arven nodded, "Thank you."
After Penny handed Juliana her backpack, Juliana waved back at her, "Bye Penny, I'll see you later!"
"See ya." Penny bid, before the couple walked away.
Juliana kept her eyes focused down the hallway as she walked alongside Arven. Still feeling a little rattled at his sudden arrival.
"So what did you want to talk about?" Juliana asked.
"I can't explain it here." Arven answered, "We'll talk about it at the lighthouse."
"Okay." Juliana agreed. She could tell from the seriousness in his voice that it was something important. Something she had to mentally prepare herself for. So she did as they exited the school and summoned a flying taxi to take them to the lighthouse. On the way there, she gazed upon the horizon and wondered what was on Arven's mind.
Whatever it was, she was hoping it was something she was prepared to hear.
Professor Saguaro took the extra time in between classes to do a little extra tidying of the classroom During that time, three students, a girl and two boys came in for a snack. He warmly greeted the students and allowed them to have a seat.
As they indulged in their snacks, he could near them speaking. Initially, it was the girl talking about how happy she was to receive an Igglybuff in a trade with another student, something that made him smile.
She enthused, "I'm so grateful to the person who was willing to trade with me!"
The boy sporting a ball cap was happy for her, "That's great!"
The other boy, one wearing sunglasses, changed the subject, "Say, do you guys wanna hear something?"
"What is it?" The girl inquired.
"It has to do with Juliana and Arven." He replied.
Ball cap boy responded, "Ah yes, everyone's favorite couple. What about 'em?"
This caught Saguaro's attention, and while pretending to still clean he listened very closely.
Sunglasses leaned closer to his friends, "Okay, so you know Arven is the Professor's kid right?"
"Yeah, everyone knows that." The girl stated.
"You know, I know this sounds weird, but do you think Juliana has met the Professor?"
His friends looked at each other inquisitively before the girl answered, "I'm… not so sure about that. Nobody has seen or heard from the professor in years."
"Yeah dude, I think it would be unlikely." Ball cap agreed.
Saguaro did not like where this conversation was going.
Sunglasses eagerly suggested, "Can you say it's truly impossible though? I mean, what if Juliana met the Professor in secret, but now she has to keep quiet about it, right?"
The girl smiled a little, "That is kinda fun to think about."
Ball cap wondered, "If that were the case, then that would mean Juliana knows what happened to her right?"
"See what I mean!? I know this sounds like a wild theory, but it could be true right? Juliana could have met the amazing Professor!" Sunglasses hinted.
The girl cautioned, "Guys, I don't think it's a good idea to talk about this so carelessly…"
"Oh come on, it's just a little fun gossip! That's all!" Sunglasses explained, "I mean don't tell me we're the only ones that have thought about that."
Ball cap noted, "He's got a point there."
Now Professor Saguaro was never one to interfere in the gossiping session of students, but this discussion was rubbing him the wrong way, and he was going to put a stop to it. He approached the three and cleared his throat loudly to grab their attention.
"Oh! Hey Professor Saguaro!" Sunglasses greeted.
"What's up?" The girl inquired.
"I'll get straight to the point." Saguaro explained in a firm voice, "You all know by now that I usually don't mind the gossiping students do in this room, as most of it is relatively harmless. I am not trying to be nosy, but what I'm hearing is inexcusable. You have absolutely no business discussing such a delicate and private matter like that. It has nothing to do with you."
Ball cap and sunglasses looked ashamed; the girl was giving her best 'I told you so' look to both boys.
"We're sorry, sir…" Sunglasses apologized, realizing their mistake, "You're right."
"We got carried away…" spoke Ball cap, "I'm also very sorry. We won't do it again sir, I promise."
Saguaro nodded, "Good. That's what I want to hear. From now on, I don't want to hear any of you discussing that subject again. I won't tolerate it from anyone for that matter. Do you understand?"
"Yes sir." Was the response from both boys.
Saguaro smiled, confident he had gotten through to them, "All right then. Take care now." He nodded before walking away.
The three students smiled and waved at the good teacher before continuing with their snacks, changing the subject to the Pokémon they had received while doing wonder trades.
Professor Saguaro gazed upon his desk and thought to himself, "Don't worry Arven, I'm looking out for you."
Author's Note: Ahaha, I've envisioned Professor Saguaro being a good guy like that for a long time, tee hee... I'm so glad I got to write it out.
Hope you all enjoyed! See you next time!
