Chapter Thirty-Five
Aftershock
Back at the Hideout, the other Disciples stood above the drunk boys who now lay on the floor covered in cuts and bruises as well as some electrical burns from Lamia.
Amongst the wounds, were bloody words curtesy of Diablo's talons, carved into their bodies such as 'Selfish Murderers' 'Drunk Drivers' and 'Stupid Joyriders'.
Both were looking dazed and half dead as they lay there.
Diablo smirked as he looked down at them.
"Now they have suffered the punishment." He said, "We shall now drop them off for the police!"
"I'll volunteer." Ravage said walking over and grabbing the first boy by the shoulders with his upper arms and using his other set to hold his arms behind his back.
Diablo in turn picked up the second boy.
"I wonder how Angela is?" Seth asked in a worried voice as he looked to the stairs.
"At least Chastity is with her." Lamia said, "The poor girl needs to have a good long think about her situation."
"It's going to be tough for her, that's for sure!" Samson murmured.
"Ah yes!" Rex agreed "Unlike us, she had parents to go home to, and now they won't even know what's happened to her."
"It's really sad." Ravage said, "And these bastards are to blame for it!" he jerked the boy he was holding roughly.
"Indeed!" Diablo agreed then looked at the Locust "Let's get them out of here and to the police! More than likely, they've investigated the wrecked car and the evidence on the road!"
Ravage nodded then dragged his captive up the stairs, Diablo following him with his own captive.
The two boys barely made a sound nor moved due to both the fact they had been tortured to the point of unconsciousness and that they were still under the influence of the alcohol.
When the two mutants got outside, they couldn't see Angela nor Chastity anywhere.
"Where are they?" Ravage asked.
Diablo frowned then he opened his wings and lifted himself into the air, as he did, he saw a couple of figures flying towards them and as they got closer, he saw they were Chastity and Angela.
"There they are!" he said lowering himself to the ground and the Dove and Falcon flew over and arrived in the yard of the abandoned house.
"Keep your wings level!" Chastity said to Angela who was wavering a bit as she flew next to the Dove.
"Don't fight the air currents!" Chastity reminded Angela then she saw Diablo and Ravage below them as they both came into land.
Chastity landed smoothly yet Angela as she placed her feet on the ground, she lost her balance as the breeze blew under her wings and she fell backwards onto her backside.
"Damn!" she cursed.
Chastity reached down and took the Falcon's hand pulled Angela to her feet.
"It's alright, I've had worse landings before I got it right." She chuckled, yet Angela didn't laugh back but looked away.
"Me too." Diablo agreed as he remembered the time, he crashed into a wall in Mutopia when he first arrived and before Tyroth taught him to fly.
"What happened to you two?" Ravage asked.
Chastity explained and the Raven and Locust were shocked as well as worried when the dove mentioned how Angela had crashed into someone's garden alerting a dog and they were nearly spotted.
"Good thing you got away before the humans saw you." Diablo said glancing at Angela who looked away.
Chastity nodded.
"And thanks for looking after her." Diablo said to the dove.
"We'll teach her how to use her wings properly maybe next evening." Diablo suggested, "In the meantime, Ravage and I have two pieces of trash to dump!" he looked at the brutalised boys.
Chastity nodded then looked at the boys.
"They might be young, but the wicked must still be punished!" she said glaring at the two boys.
"Yes, they must!" Diablo said, "Ravage and I will take these low lives to be found by the police."
"Okay, just be careful." Chastity warned.
"No problameo Angel!" Ravage winked as he started to flap his wings and rose into the air along with Diablo "We'll be back soon!"
The Dove and Falcon watched them go, then Chastity lead Angela back to the Hideout.
Angela looked back at the Locust and Raven as they flew away and followed Chastity into the basement.
When they returned, Seth went over to Angela.
"Are you alright?" he asked holding out his hands to her, yet Angela looked away from him before walking over to a corner and sitting down before pulling her knees up to her chest and resting her head on them as well as wrap her wings around herself.
Chastity patted Seth's shoulder in support and reassurance before going over to Rex, Samson, Regan, and Lamia.
"Is she alright?" Rex mouthed to the Dove.
"She's still fragile." Chastity said softly "She tried to take off earlier."
"Take off?" Lamia asked, "You mean she tried to fly away?"
Chastity nodded.
"She's still very upset." She said, "But we need to show her that we're here to support her, this is a hard time for her, transitioning from what she once knew to now living like this."
"It's not going to be easy." Samson sighed.
"She needs time to adjust." Rex agreed as he looked over at the Falcon and at Seth who as sitting nearby to offer support if she needed it.
Regan looked at Angela and felt sad, she looked up at the older Disciples then walked over to Angela.
Meanwhile, Angela kept her head on her knees as she thought about how she had tried to fly away.
She felt both angered that she hadn't been able to do it so she could get away, but at the same time she felt bad as she almost exposed herself and Chastity to the humans.
But the other thing she did feel was that for a few brief moments, she had experienced what it was like to fly.
Nigel always spoke about how he loved to fly and how it was almost liberating to be above the clouds and seeing the world below.
"It's the only thing Angie!" he had told her "I feel at my happiest when I'm flying high in my plane, if only I could take you to experience it, see the skies, flying alongside the birds, and see the sunrise and sunsets from the air rather than below."
Angela lifted her head and she almost jumped out of her skin as she saw Regan walking over.
"Hello Angela." The little bat said and gave a little smile, yet she kept her mouth closed so as not to expose her sharp teeth.
"Hi…" Angela said in a small voice "Regan."
Regan smiled and walked a little closer.
"Are you sad Angie?" she asked.
Angela sighed, she didn't want to talk to anyone about her feelings, but she didn't want to shoo away the curious little mutant bat who innocently wanted to know how she was.
"Are you sad because you had to be a mutant?" Regan asked, "You are alive again, but sad?"
Seth looked over at Regan and wondered whether to step in and speak for Angela.
He knew Regan meant well as she was speaking to his friend, but he wasn't sure if Angela wanted to talk to her.
Angela meanwhile just looked at the curious little Vampire bat.
"I am sad yes." Angela said at last.
"Sad because…I have parents who love me, as well as some friends, and because of what's happened to them…I can't ever see them again, not even to say goodbye to them."
Regan looked a little surprised.
"You can't say goodbye?" she asked.
Seth shook his head.
"I had friends too." He said, "My parents died in that fire that almost killed me, but I had friends where I was studying, and now I'll never see them again because of what I have become, because of those bad people."
Regan sighed.
"Yes, the bad people we punish." She licked her lips "Like those boys who knocked you over with the car!"
Seth looked at Angela as he remembered the two drunk boys.
"Diablo and Ravage are taking them to the police as we speak, and I'm sure they'll find evidence linking them to the crash."
Regan cocked her head on one side, being just a young girl, she didn't know much about the science and technology the police needed to link criminals to crimes they committed.
"I'll explain later." The Oryx said then looked back at Angela.
Regan chewed her lip feeling sad for the Falcon as she watched Seth place his hand on hers in comfort.
The young bat couldn't remember anything about her past, she couldn't remember her parents, nor who she had been before she woke up as she was now.
"I wish I knew where I came from." She said to Seth and Angela "I don't remember my mummy and daddy."
Angela gave Regan a sympathetic look, then she looked to the other Disciples wondering what had happened to Regan, as she hadn't been told of her origins.
"I'm sorry about that." She said to the young bat.
Regan smiled back.
"It's alright." She said then looked back to the stairs.
"I wonder when Diablo and Ravage will come back?" she asked.
As she said that, a noise was heard a above and the Raven and Locust returned, and both were carrying bags of food.
"Speak of the devil." Seth said standing up.
"Boss!" Samson said, "How did you and Ravage get on?"
"We dropped those boys off at a police station then flew off." Diablo reported "Then we picked up some supplies from an all-night store, we snuck in the back and left money in it's place."
"Same old tricks!" Lamia smiled.
"Did you find out anything else?" Chastity asked.
Diablo shook his head.
"Ravage and I listened into the conversations of the police within the building, but we could not pick up any recent news, other than the fact they had been gathering evidence on our recent attacks on the Neo Nazi's and that the sinners are in the cells and awaiting to be questioned on their sinful activities."
"That's good to know." Rex growled "After what they did, they deserve it!"
Seth gave a slight smirk as he heard that.
"And because everyone believes the sinners are crazy when they mention us, we have no fear to be hunted!" Diablo said, "But we cannot linger much longer after this, we will need to move on soon."
"That is true." Chastity said, "We cannot remain in one place long, it will only be a matter of time before we're caught up, so we must leave soon."
When Angela heard that she stood up.
"Now?" she asked anxiously.
Everyone turned to look at the Falcon.
"Not right now!" Ravage said quickly "At least not right now, in a couple of days to let things cool off at least, right?" he asked to Diablo.
"That is correct yes." Diablo confirmed then looked to Angela.
He could see in the Falcon's eyes she was still upset and torn about how quickly her life had changed.
He knew that she needed time to get used to her new situation, and he knew it was going to take a while to earn her trust again after all that had happened.
"I have to do something." He thought "If she lets me, I want to help her and make her feel welcome and safe with us as a Disciple, but I need to get her to trust me again, that is if she ever did in the first place."
He looked back at the other Disciples to discuss their next move, but at the back of mind, he decided to think of a plan to talk to Angela and earn her trust again.
So Angela is still upset over what has happened, Diablo, along with Ravage's help has dropped the boys off with the police as well as picked up supplies.
Diablo is feeling remorseful over what happened to Angela, but what is he planning to regain her trust? Well you'll have to check back to find out readers! See you then!
