Chapter Thirty-One

Last Meeting?

The following night, Angela sneaked out of the house to meet with Seth at the Baseball field like she promised.

She had been longing for the night to come as she was desperate to ask Seth how it felt, confronting his killers as well as punishing them along with the Disciples.

She had put on a brave face at work but had found it hard to concentrate, but she had to keep up appearances so no-one would suspect a thing.

It was almost one 'o' clock in the morning when she left to go to the baseball field.

As she walked along the quiet streets, she wrapped her coat around herself and looked up at the sky, despite the light pollution she could see twinkling stars and her mind went back to Nigel and she wondered how he would have dealt with her situation.

"Oh Nigel." She whispered to herself, "I wish you were here; I need you more than ever!"

After ten minutes, Angela made it to her destination, and she went to sit on the lower level of the bleachers.

She didn't see Seth nor Diablo, nor any of the Disciples, and she wondered when they would appear, and as she waited, the memories of when she asked Seth, or Solomon as he was before to come with her here, and she had unwillingly brought him into meeting Diablo, and he ended up being mutated like him.

Part of her still wondered that whether she brought him here or not, would he still have been attacked by the Neo Nazi's.

Angela kept asking that question, yet she had no answer, all she knew was that Seth had been persecuted all his life, and as time had passed it had never changed, but it never made her feel any better.

She looked around the baseball field, then at the skies above, seeing the few stars and then at the ground, still wondering how this meeting would go, if she would have her way, she would stay here all night and never leave, but she knew she would have to return to her normal life.

But then again, part of her wondered what it would be like to live like the Disciples. After Nigel died, she had wanted to leave Spencer where there were so many things that reminded her of her brother and their childhood together.

One of the reasons she had decided to work at Subway was so she could save some money to go travelling and maybe find another place to start a new life or go to college further away, yet she hadn't been sure.

As Angela continued to ponder her thoughts, she heard a flapping of wings, and she looked up to see a dark shape in the sky then it lowered itself to the ground and in the lights of the Baseball field she saw it was Diablo and he was carrying Seth bridal style.

Angela stood up as she saw then, and as the raven let Seth down, the Oryx ran to Angela and her to him and they embraced tightly.

"Seth!" she cried.

Seth held Angela tightly.

"Angie." He said, "Are you alright?"

Angela nodded then looked at her mutated friend.

"I am…but I was so worried about you." She said "How…. how did last night go?" she looked over Seth's shoulder at Diablo who avoided her eyes.

Seth sighed.

"I must confess Angela." He said "I had so many mixed feelings. But in a way, I felt satisfied…"

Angela looked at her friend and her heart beat faster.

"You found them?" she asked, "And you…you?"

Seth nodded.

"Yes…yes we did." He said turning to Diablo "Thanks to the Raven, and his Doberman friend, we found the ones who destroyed my life."

Diablo looked over as he was acknowledged, and he stepped forward.

"Yes, we found the sinners, and we made them pay." He growled "And they will forever live with their sins!"

"Like how?" Angela asked fearfully as she stepped back from Seth.

"To tell you the truth Angela." Seth said, "When I entered the house, I wasn't sure what to do or think, but as I looked upon them, I saw nothing but the bullies who tormented me and my family for so long, and how I have had to live with such torture, all because of what I am, what I was brought up as."

He then glared.

"Those evil bullies deserved what came to them, and they suffered the consequences of their actions, and we made sure they will be punished by the law for what they did!"

"How?" Angela asked.

Diablo rubbed his talons together.

"Apart from the hate they spread about innocent people about their religions, we found many other things, like attempted terrorism, and drug dealing!" he reported.

Angela frowned as she looked at Diablo, despite what Seth told her, she was still angry at the Raven for all that had happened.

"They will face justice soon enough." Seth said, "They will, and I will be able to feel satisfaction!"

Angela looked back at her friend.

"Satisfaction?" she asked "Do you feel it from how you tortured them? Or that they will face it when the police find out more about them?"

Seth glowered.

"A bit of both Angie." He said in a low voice, "I cannot deny the anger I felt from a child, as well as the hate I feel now for those who have hurt me all because of how I lived my human life!"

Seth clenched his fist.

"I'm a Jew, and I have had hate thrown at me, persecution, everything under the sun and I have done nothing to hurt others, other than be who I am!" he said, "And I am glad I was able to punish those who ruined my life!"

"And I am glad I was able to help you." Diablo said a faint smirk on his beak "They deserved to be punished! All bullies deserve to be punished!"

Angela looked at Seth then at Diablo.

She wasn't sure what to think nor how to process what she heard.

As long as she had known Seth, he was always peaceful and never rose to the level of those who bullied him, even until the end of his human life.

She wasn't sure if she knew the same friend from High School.

"Solomon…Seth." She said, "Do you take pride in what you did?" she asked.

Seth looked appalled.

"Pride?" he asked "Pride in torturing people? No!" he said, "I said I only felt satisfaction in making those who ruined my life pay for their sins!"

Angela looked away and leaned against the bleachers as she tried to take in what Seth said.

Seth watched Angela, as did Diablo and they stepped towards her.

"Angie?" Seth said as he reached for his friend.

"I…I don't know what to think nor say anymore!" Angela cried as she stepped away from them "How has it come to this?" she turned to Seth and Diablo.

"What can't you comprehend?" Diablo asked "Are you not glad those who took away your friend have paid for their sins? Hmm?"

Seth glared at Diablo then looked at Angela.

"Angie." He said "You know me, I've never been violent, nor wished harm on those who wanted to harm me, but after what happened to me, and my parents, those bastards had it coming! And I am glad they got their just punishment!"

Angela took a few more deep breaths then looked back at Seth and Diablo.

"You gave them what they deserved." She said "And after what you told me, and that they made you what you are, Seth, they deserved it! And I am glad they got their punishment!"

"You are glad?" Seth asked.

"Glad?" Diablo asked in surprise.

Angela glared.

"Yes, glad they got what they deserved." She said "Those bullies deserved what they got! Yet I feel no satisfaction!"

She glared at Seth and Diablo.

"They have faced punishment by your hands, yet not by the human justice! And I have still lost a friend and someone I could trust!" she spat.

Seth and Diablo were silent for a moment as they listened to Angela.

Yes, it was true, the men who had killed Seth's parents and injured him thus he had to mutate, they had faced justice and Seth felt satisfaction, yet there was still Angela, and she hadn't felt any satisfaction and she was about to lose a friend possibly forever.

Angela had suffered so much, and Seth had been part of her life during High School, and she and him had met again in so long and just as they were getting friendly again, they were about to be separated and this time, maybe forever, and Angela wasn't sure how much she could take.

Clenching and unclenching her fists, the young woman looked at the Oryx and Raven and glowered.

"I can't…" she whispered as tears fell from her eyes "I can't stand it! I can't deal with this!" she then turned on her heel and started to stride towards the road to go back home.

"Angie…" Seth called over her, but Angela didn't turn around.

Diablo followed Seth and as he did, he frowned as he heard a loud noise not far away and he could tell it was coming their way.

"Angie!" Seth called again as he started to run after Angela, yet Angela started to walk more quickly.

"Angie! Wait!" Seth shouted as he reached for her, but Angela pulled away from him and started to walk backwards.

"No! No!" she screamed "Leave me alone!" she started to edge backwards towards the road and Diablo started to realise what the sound was when he heard screeching, like rubber on concrete!

"Oh shit…" he thought but he didn't have a chance to yell or even move when a car appeared around the corner and headed towards where Seth and Angela were!

"LOOK OUT!" Diablo shouted but it was too late!

Angela had stepped into the middle of the road just as the car, a dark blue mustang with his lights on full beam ploughed into her sending her flying onto the windscreen smashing it, then over the roof and at the same time knocked Seth to the side tearing a wing mirror off at the same time!

The Oryx was flung backwards as he was struck, and he yelled as he fell on his left side and his shoulder popped out of his socket!

Diablo at the same time watched Angela's body fly like a ragdoll over the roof of the car, before landing on the road with a horrific crunch as she contacted the road and fell in a mangled heap!

As that happened the car spun around a few times before it collided with a lamp post and stopped!

The Raven was stunned, and he ran over to Seth who groaned as he sat up.

"Seth?" he asked.

Seth shook off stars as he cradled his injured arm then he and Diablo saw Angela's body on the road.

"ANGIE!" he screamed in fear as he jumped up ignoring the pain in his arm and dropped to her side.

As he approached Angela's still form, he saw blood pouring from a wound in her head soaking her hair and a trickle of blood poured from her right nostril.

"Angie!?" Seth cried as he leaned down trying to feel for life, but he felt nothing!

"Oh Moses! No!" he sobbed "Angela! Oh no! No! No!" he hung his head as tears fell from his eyes "NOOOO!" he screamed into the air.

Diablo stared with his beak open, and he ran over to analyse Angela and he too saw her condition.

"Oh my God…" he thought as tears formed in his eyes seeing the young woman's mangled body and bloodied up hair and he stroked her face in sadness.

"Oh Angela…" he wept softly then looked at Seth who sobbed both in devastation and grief over his dear friend "I'm so sorry…."
