Author Note: This is just a small chapter about what happened a few weeks before the first chapter. This chapter takes place in New York City with Nari and Douxie. Douxie is teaching Claire magic and counseling her via texting, calling and/or Skyping. But he doesn't know at this point what's actually with his surrogate sister.
(A few weeks ago)
"Nari, wake up." Skrael's voice slithers in Nari's ear. She opens her eyes but doesn't see her sibling, only seeing pitch black for miles and miles.
"A birth of a child in the middle of the 10th month of the year,
Another wizard was born 900 years later on the same day.
Skin the color of golden sand,
Hair as dark as night,
And eyes like the color of cocoa beans,
With the power between light and darkness.
The child is born out of the blood and magic of one of the two eldest sorcerers of Mankind's history.
Holds a staff of shadows and emotion.
They will either be the world's savior or doom.
The choice is theirs to make." Says Skreal's voice, laughing.
"AAAAHHHH!"
Nari turns around and sees Claire in a light purple dress, crying in pain with black eyes and noticeable dark purple veins on her body.
"Claire Nuñez!" Nari screams, running to help her, but the closer she gets to the girl, Claire is pulled away by some strange force. Nari cries as she feels and sees Claire in so much pain, like being on fire, with white noise ringing in her ears and stabbed continuously with knives.
"Stop it! Stop IT!" Claire screams at the top of her lungs. Claire turns her head to Nari and sees fear, pain, torture, and fear in her eyes.
"The child will be ours!" Nari hears Bellroc's voice in the distance and her siblings' laughter as Claire disappears into the darkness, crying and screaming.
"Claire! Claire!" Nari screams, trying to run to her, only to see miles and miles of darkness, rocks, and shadows.
Nari opens her eyes to see the wall of her and Douxie's apartment. She looks around frantically to find Douxie sleeping in the bed to her right. Nari gets up and rushes towards him. "Douxie, wake up!" She shouts, trembling, shaking Douxie's arm, trying to wake him.
Douxie groans and opens his eyes to see the short, tiny, green-skinned, and amber eye being of nature. "Nari, what's wrong?" He mutters.
"Douxie, Claire Nuñez isn't alright!" Nari cries. Nari doesn't know much about her protector's apprentice personally. But she knows her name, birthday, and what she looks like; she is selfless and passionate, and Douxie cares for her.
"Wait-What?" Douxie asks, getting up in his bed. "What do you mean, Nari?"
"I think Claire is in trouble!" She rephrases.
Douxie turns pale as a ghost, stiffening up. "What? Claire? Are you sure?" He asks with worry, trembling in his voice.
Nari nods her head with sad eyes. "I just had a dream," Nari explains what she saw in her dream, shaking a bit. "I don't know if it was real, if it happened, or if it was a nightmare. I wanted to ask you if Claire is alright because she's your apprentice, and you care about her." She answers and explains, really scared.
Douxie can barely breathe, and his mind starts to spin. Nari can sense and see unexplainable things for being a Demigod. So telling him Claire is in trouble and involved with the Arcane Order makes Douxie scared. He turns his head frantically for the clock and sees its hands close to 3:00 a.m. He pulls over his comforter and swings his legs over the edge of the left side of the bed. He looks to his left at his nightstand and grabs his phone.
"Nari, can you feel Claire's soul? Is she alright?" Douxie asks, looking up at her, panicking.
"I did as I woke up from my dream. She is asleep but is in so much pain, and it hurts to feel what she feels and can't see her." Nari answers, making Douxie more worried, and he turns to his phone again.
"Do you think the Arcane Order is after her?"
"I don't exactly know for sure, but I did hear Skrael say they need something more than me to open the Genesis Seals than me. Someone with the power of shadowmancy."
It's about midnight in California, but this might be serious, and Douxie needs to know now if Claire is ok. Douxie taps his phone to open it and types in Claire's phone number. The phone rings, and Douxie brings it to his ear, trembling. Five rings, and the call goes to voicemail.
"Hello, it's C-bomb! Sorry, I can't take your call. Please make a voicemail after the beep, and I will call you shortly. ¡Gracias!" Claire's voicemail says.
"Shit!" Douxie growls. He hears the beeps and clears his throat. "Hey Claire, I'm sorry for calling you in the middle of the night. I just heard something bad happened about the Arcane Order and wondered if you're ok. Don't try calling me after hearing this. I'm fine and coming back to Arcadia with Nari. I miss you, and tell everyone else I miss them too. Bye!" He says on the phone and ends the call.
He looks up at Nari, who bites her lip and plays with her fingers. "Did you talk to her?"
"No! The call went straight to voicemail, which happens when someone on the other line doesn't answer the phone. I made a recording of what I wanted to tell Claire so she could listen to it later. Hopefully, right after she wakes up in eight hours." Douxie answers and explains the definition of voicemail.
"Oh, I'm sorry." Nari can't help but feel guilty for worrying about Claire and wish they weren't 2,774 miles away. "But what are we going to do?"
Douxie thinks for a moment, his hand covering half of his face. He must protect Nari from the Arcane Order, but she is a Demigod telling him something's wrong with someone he cares deeply about and might be in danger. He doesn't believe Nari is lying but doesn't know if Claire is actually in trouble, but this doesn't matter. His sister comes first.
"Get ready to go! We're leaving!" Douxie finally answers as he shoots up and rushes towards his belongings to pack, which he has little. Archie sleeps next to the stuff on the ground, waking up, stretching, and yawning as he sees his owner packing.
"But how are we going to get to Arcadia?" Nari asks with worry.
"We have a flying pod; we can get to Arcadia in less than a day!" Douxie replies.
"Wait, what's going on? Did the Arcane Order find us?" Archie asks, concerned.
"No! We have to get to Arcadia to check up on Claire!" Douxie answers, not turning to look at his familiar.
A shock wave hits Archie, stiffening up, and he turns to Nari. She gives him a concerned look, bites her lip, and nods. Archie turns back to his owner, confused. "What-why? What about the mission of protecting Nari from the Arcane Order? Merlin gave you a task to do! Do you want to let him down?" He reminds Douxie why they are in New York City.
Douxie growls and turns to his familiar. "Don't use Merlin against me, Archie! Nari received a dream just now of Claire in pain and a scary prophecy!"
Archie looks at Nari with more confusion. "What did the prophecy say?"
"A birth of a child in the middle of the 10th month of the year. Another wizard was born 900 years later on the same day. Skin the color of golden sand, hair as dark as night, and eyes like the color of cocoa beans, with the power between light and darkness. The child is born out of the blood and magic of one of the two eldest sorcerers of Mankind's history. Holds a staff of shadows and emotion. They will either be the world's savior or doom. The choice is theirs to make." Nari answers, saying what she heard, word for word.
Archie blinks and becomes more worried. "Are you sure?"
"Yes, and we're going!" Douxie snaps before Nari can answer.
Archie turns back to his wizard familiar with a frown. "I was asking Nari, not you!" He hisses.
"He is right. We need to return to Arcadia, and I sense the Arcane Order found us too." Nari answers.
"It doesn't matter! This is Claire, my best friend!" Douxie snaps at both of them, throwing some of his clothes in a bag, growling.
Nari rushes in between the wizard and the cat. "Douxie, calm down. Claire is safe, and you're being toxic and need to relax." She says in a reassuring tone.
Douxie's eyes widen, taking a few deep breaths, dropping his head and arms. Archie sees the gravity of Douxie's worried about his apprentice and someone who he sees as family.
Archie slowly walks past Nari to Douxie's lap and rubs against his left arm. "I'm sorry, Douxie, and I know Claire means a lot to you, and you care deeply about her." He says softly.
Douxie looks at his familiar's sad eyes, making him smile and open his arms. "Thanks, Archie!" He mumbles as he hugs him. Archie cuddles back, and Nari smiles at the two rekindlings.
They break, and Archie smiles at Nari and Douxie. "Come on, and let's go home." He encourages them to leave New York City.
The two others nod their heads and smile. Douxie turns on the lights, and everyone gets ready to go. Nari grabs her few personal belongings, and Douxie grabs his belongings and a jam jar of their flying pod. They leave the room, not planning to return and head quickly and quietly to the roof. As they walk, Douxie texts Zoey. They all get to the top, Douxie breaks the jar, and the flying pod (the one in Wizards that carried Merlin, Douxie, Toby, and Steve to the flying Camelot castle) grows into its full size.
"Alright, time to go!" Douxie says, and all three of them jump in the pod. Douxie conjures his staff and places it in the steering. The pod suspense itself in the air and flies straight. "And we are off!" He adds, feeling the wind hit his face. Douxie smiles, happy to see his friends again but also worries about the new day when they get to Arcadia.
Little do they know, they are being watched by a creature with glowing yellow eyes who lives in the shadows. One who lives like a troll but doesn't look entirely or eat like one, having the mind of a human yet the pride of an animal. It growls and leaps away to a giant skyscraper 100 yards from where Bellroc and Skrael are waiting for it.
Author Note: This was just to explain why and how Douxie and Nari came back to Arcadia since at the end of Wizards, Douxie and Nari leave and hides in NYC. Douxie will do anything for his friends and wants to save his surrogate sister. Guess what creature I'm talking about in the last paragraph. (Hint: The creature has appeared before in all three shows of the franchise and it's not a troll). Please review.
