Author Note: I'm sorry for the slow update. I have no good excuse and was just lazy and back WiFi connections.
"Claire, shhh, calm down! What's wrong?" I hear Douxie ask.
But I keep crying and don't lift my head. I hear more muttering and chatting, but after a minute of sobbing, I feel a warm and kind touch on my right shoulder.
"Claire, shhh, shhh, shhh, it's ok." I hear Jim's soft and gentle voice whisper.
I stop sobbing and slowly look up to my right. I see Jim's sweet smile and soft eyes. Without thinking, I launch forward and lock my arms around Jim's neck, sobbing quietly into his shoulder. I shut my eyes and start to tremble.
I feel Jim's arms immediately wrap around my waist. "Shhh, shhh, it's ok, Claire. It's ok, you're fine." He whispers, rubbing my back.
We stay there for two minutes. I slowly stop shaking and sobbing while Jim silents me. When I regain composure, Jim releases me and cups my teary cheeks.
"You ok?" He asks kindly.
I nod my head childishly and blink out tears in my eyes, making them fall down my cheeks. Jim catches them with his thumb and kisses my forehead.
When Jim pulls away, his gaze becomes severe, and he takes his hands off my cheeks. "Claire, what's wrong? Why did you scream 'no'?" He asks sternly.
I glanced down and consumed what I saw before waking up, but something hit me. The song that I heard in my head. Of course! It was my mother's lullaby. How could I be so stupid? "Don't make me go back," I mumble, trembling at the thought, not looking at anything or anyone.
Jim's arms wrap around me. "We won't, Claire, but why did you scream 'no' when waking up?" He mumbles in my ear.
"The Arcane Order... I saw them." I reply. I look around the room to see shock, fear, and horror on everyone's faces. By far, the most worried are Archie, Nari, and Douxie. They glance at each other with pale faces. Jim lets go of me.
"Wait, are you sure?" Douxie asks while rushing to my side. His eyes are fearful, and his skin is pale like the sheets I'm on.
I hug myself and close my eyes, letting tears fall on my gown. "I saw many horrible things. Horrible visions, but I also saw beautiful ones too." I reply with a hoarse voice.
Archie gets on the bed and sits on my lap. "What did you see?" He asks with concern, looking at me.
I look around and see everyone has their eyes on me. I took a deep breath and explained what I saw until-"What the hell are you doing?" I ask, seeing Zoe taking something off my body.
"I'm getting these patches off you. Please continue. I'm still listening." Zoe replies sternly, not looking at me.
I roll my eyes and continue while Zoe takes the patches off me. I explained, seeing what I saw in my hospital vision, seeing myself as a newborn baby in my mother's arms as Zoe got all the patches off me. My necklace started glowing again, and I heard crying in my head before I trailed off, not wanting to bore my friends and tell them what I saw.
"What is it, Claire? What did you see?" Douxie asks, a little bit impatient.
I swallow the lump in my throat. I explained to Douxie, Archie, Nari, and Zoe what happened to Jim, Toby, and me that night when Morgana possessed me, word for word. Then, I explained the destruction I saw, similar to what happened during the Eternal Night Battle and the horrors around me. It reminded me of what happened the night I met the Green Knight, Skaerl, and Bellroc. After that, I didn't explain what I saw and concluded I just woke up, afraid the nightmare I saw was real. I finished my story; I looked up and saw everyone looking stone and pale. No one spoke or moved; they just stared and did not blink momentarily. It's getting awkward. "Guys?"
They all shake their heads. "Sorry, Claire... We're just..." Douxie tries to find the words in his head but can't.
"A bit worried." Archie fills the sentence. "Speaking of the shadow staff, why didn't you tell us?" He asks calmly.
I raise my eyebrow at the black-talking cat. "What are you talking about?" I ask, confused.
Douxie scowls at his familiar and looks up at me with worried eyes. "Claire, we may think you're not telling us something." He says calmly. "Jim."
I turn to my boyfriend, who hands me the shadow staff and the note from my backpack. At first, I felt angry for thinking they looked into my personal belongings and over-crossed boundaries. But-
"Toby found this when your backpack fell, and he tried to pick it up," Jim answers with concern. "Claire, why didn't you tell us?"
I glance and grab the note and staff before looking at my friends in guilt. "I was going to tell you after this, but it seems I made it worse," I answer sheepishly, pouting like a puppy.
Everyone looks stern but worried. "It's ok, Claire, but how long have you had this?" Douxie asks kindly.
"Since Monday," I reply.
"Why didn't you tell us?" He repeats.
I'm tired of questions. "I didn't know how to explain it, Douxie! Last Monday, I found the shadow staff on my bed and this note! You can't guess and give a reasonable explanation for something like this! Last Sunday, I saw scary eyes and a dream that night that almost spooked me to death! The next day, my hair became longer, and purple streaks were everywhere! How do you explain that in a second? I wanted to tell you about everything I saw and heard but couldn't find a way to explain myself! I'm scared and worried, and I don't know what's happening to me!" I scream at him. Douxie takes a step back and blinks, eyes widening. I feel myself heat up, and my magic builds up in my hands. I notice Douxie's face and look at him with horror. I calm myself down and curl into a ball. "I'm sorry, Douxie... I'm sorry I didn't tell you and screamed at you... I just don't know what's happening to me, and I'm scared."
I feel arms wrap around my back and pull me forward. "Shhh, it's ok, Claire. It's alright; I didn't mean to pressure you with questions." Douxie says softly in my ear and rubs my back.
I lean on his shoulder and take a deep breath, returning the hug. We let go, smiled at one another, and turned to Zoe. "So, what did you guys find wrong with me?" I say sarcastically.
Zoe raises her eyebrows, crosses her arms, and grins. "One, there's nothing wrong with you. While you were sleeping, you're necklace glowed so bright it flung all of us across the room."
"What!?" I gasp and blink. I turn to Douxie with wide eyes. "Is this true?"
Douxie nods his head, biting his lip. "Speaking of that. What is your necklace? It glowed purple and blew us around the room. Where did it come from, and is it magical?" He asks clearly.
I glance down at my necklace and touch it. It slightly glows light purple in the small gems when I stroke them. I lift my eyes back to Douxie. "This is my family's heirloom that has been passed down for 900 years. My mom gave it to me Monday night and told me when a different person wears it; its gems change color; it's not magical." I answer sternly.
Douxie raises his eyebrow and shakes his head. Zoe is the same way. "No, there should be a reason how and why." She laughs.
Douxie turns to her with a frown. "Hey, you're the one who touched the necklace!" He shouts, making me look at them in horror.
"What?!" I shout, wide eyes at my friend.
"I had to take it off because you didn't, but when I tried to touch it, it gave off an exploding reaction," Zoe says defensively, holding her arms up.
"No one but the owners or previous wearers can touch the necklace!" I snap.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know that was important to you," Zoe replies, looking away.
I roll my eyes and sigh in a bit of anger. "It's fine; my mom won't kill you if she finds out," I say in defeat, rubbing my temples. I take a deep breath and look back up at the wizards. "What else?"
"Speaking of your mother. Do you know if anyone in your family is a wizard, a witch, or has any magical qualities?" Zoe asks clearly.
I raise my eyebrow, confused. "No! All of my family members are humans. 100%, no magic, badly average and boring human beings." I say sarcastically. "Why do you ask?"
"First, where did your powers come from?"
"After Morgana possessed my body. Why?"
"Because the X-ray says you might have been lied to or don't know where your powers came from after the test. You might have always been a witch since the day you were born." She says calmly but lowers her voice.
I blink and feel my head spinning. "What? How's that possible?" I say in shock.
"Sometimes magical abilities show up in different stages of life. Sometimes it's as a baby. Sometimes, it's when you're 16, trying to fight off a 930-year-old witch to regain your body. But that's also in your hair if that's the case. At a certain age, a witch or wizard, usually 16 or 19, takes physical changes like longer or colored hair. That's what happened to Douxie and me. Their bodies also change, but it depends on the wizard."
I lean back and take a deep breath. "Well, now that explains everything," I mumble, my still head spinning. "And I thought my Abuela was joking when saying I was special."
"Who's that?"
"Oh, she's the sweetest, kindest, most caring, and understanding woman I've ever met. She's my mom's mother, and I can't wait to see her again before my birthday." I sigh with the happy thoughts of Abuela.
"When's your birthday?" Nari asks, smiling too.
"On the 18th. About 11 days from now." I reply, turning to her.
Douxie almost falls and blinks, making me turn to him. "Really?" He says with excitement, smiling.
"Yeah! I'll turn 17 and throw a party at my family's manor in Huntington. And I want you guys to come."
"Of course! I would love to come!" Douxie answers with a huge smile.
"Sounds fun! A whole lot better than here." Zoe says sarcastically but smiles.
I can't help smiling, filling up excitedly. "Thank you, guys!"
Zoe comes forward and wraps her arms around me. "You're welcome, girl." She says kindly, rubbing my back. I return the hug and close my eyes. "I'm sorry for my disrespect."
"It's ok. Just keep that attitude in check when coming to Huntington." I say sarcastically.
We pull away, and Zoe playfully swats me on the shoulder. "Come on; you need to get dressed."
I nod and get off the bed. The floor is cold as I walk barefoot to the armchair where my stuff is, messy and everywhere. Jim helps me, and I walk to the bathroom with my arms full of clothes. I get on off the white gown and on my pants when I hear talking outside of the door.
"What time is it?" I hear Jim ask.
"5:00. Why?" I hear Zoe answer in confusion.
"No reason," Jim replies calmly.
I get dressed and walk out. I walk up to Jim and Toby while Douxie and Zoe walk to us. "Thanks for coming, guys," Zoe says nicely and smiles and us all.
"No problem," Toby says with confidence.
Douxie looks at me with serious eyes. "Claire, I don't want to scare you, but we're all worried you're being watched. If you walk outside, do it with someone, and don't go outside until now who's following you. Ok?" He says seriously.
I nod my head and smirk. "Thanks for the warning, Teach. I have enough people watching me." I say sarcastically., thinking Morgana is probably doing the exact thing right now.
Douxie shakes his head and chuckles. "See you later, Cheeky." He replies and hands me the note and staff.
I take them and put them in my backpack. "Bye, guys!"
Nari walks up to me, and I kneel to hug her. "Be careful, Claire." She mumbles in my ear.
I rub her back. "I'll be fine, Nari. Don't worry." I reply. We pull away, and I tap Nari's nose, making her giggle. I stand up and look at the boys to my left. "Ready to go?"
"Yeah. Bye, Douxie!" They reply and wave to him as Zoe leads us out of the building.
Zoe gives me another hug; we exit the door of Hex Tech. "See ya guys!" She says kindly to us before walking back inside.
"Bye, Zoe!" I shout before turning to the boys and our bikes. "So, what should we do now that someone is coming after us?"
Jim and Toby glance at each other and turn to me with nervous smiles. "Actually, Claire, I need to go home to Nanny; she texted me to come home as I was done at Hex Tech," Toby says apologetically.
"Oh, that's fine, Toby. See ya later!" I reply.
Toby glances at Jim and gives him a side smirk. "Bye, guys!" He says, trying to hold a giggle, and rides off to his house.
I turn to Jim and raise my eyebrow. "What was that about?" I ask in confusion.
Jim tries to keep his composure and shrugs his shoulders. "Maybe he's in a hurry." He replies.
"Are you in a hurry too?" I ask.
"Nope!" Jim replies with a huge dopey grin.
"What?" I nervously chuckle.
"I'm going to take you someplace. You hungry?"
I blink and blush at the question. "Yes, but it's still early, and Mom is making spaghetti," I say sheepishly.
"That's not what I mean. I'll tell you when we get there. Come on." Jim replies calmly and gets on his bike.
I shrug my shoulders and follow. We ride, and I follow Jim through the streets and near sidewalks. As I glance at Jim, I see a huge grin on his face. I wonder what's going on inside my boyfriend's head.
Author Note: First, shout out to everyone reading, I want to know and be honest please. If anyone reading this story has watched Rise of the Titans, I want to know if you like the movie or this story more. I haven't seen the movie yet and won't until I finish this. Tell me also if the movie is good or not. I haven't heard much things about it.
Two, I'm sorry for the slow update. Guess where Jim is taking Claire at 5:00PM on a Friday? It would be more romantic if Jim still had his Vespa. Too bad it was made into badass armor for Tobes and C-bomb. I wanted to make this into this chapter, but it took too long. Claire might have told the truth, but Douxie hasn't told her everything. Sorry about the new edition. I didn't want to bore anyone with what I wrote in the previous chapter. Please review.
