Author Note: This is while Jim and Claire are in her room and her friends walk with her afterwards. I checked all the Espanol text three times because Olivia and Lucas say some... inappropriate things. Hopefully it's all correct or at least close enough.
"¡Vuelve aquí mocoso mimado!" Olivia screams at her niece as she and her boyfriend run up the stairs. They don't respond, listen, and turn around to stop. They keep running to Javier and Ophelia's wish. When they get to Claire's room and Jim shuts the door, the parents smile and sigh in relief. "¡Por qué demonios le dijiste a ese chico que se llevara a mi sobrina Javier!" Olivia screams at her brother-in-law, staring him down with angry eyes.
"I wanted Jim to protect my daughter." He says flatly, narrowing his eyes at his crazy sister-in-law and crossing his arms.
"¡Pero él podría lastimar la! ¡Él pode aprovecharse de ella a puerta cerrada! ¡Es un patético pedazo de mierda y no ella merece!"
"How dare you talk about my son like that!" Barbara shouts, pointing her index finger at Olivia.
"Jim would never do that or hurt Claire!" Toby shouts. "He loves her!"
Olivia turns to Toby and Claire's friends, looking like a predator ready to strike, but Ophelia steps in front of them. "Stay out of this, Toby." She whispers.
"¡Son tan irrespetuoso como tu hija!" Olivia shouts, making all the parents of the kids to gasp. "Si nunca hubieras conocido a Javier, te mudaras a la ciudad y llenaras a Claire con estos pecados, ¡entonces nada de esto sucedería!"
"How dare you, Olivia. How dare you say that to your guests. How dare you say that about my husband, my children, and what I sacrificed for them!" Ophelia growls.
"¿Cómo me atrevo? ¡Y tú! ¡Abandonaste a nuestra familia!"
"¡Parar! ¡Silenciad a Los dos!" Abuela shouts, getting in between her two daughters. Everyone stops talking, and the room becomes silent. Abuela narrows her eyes at her children. "Olivia, Lucas, Sebastian, Ophelia, Barbara, Jaiver, Juilo, Diego, ven a mi oficina para que podamos discutir sobre esto en privado. ¡Ahora!" Abuela says sternly. They all nod, and Abuela walks toward the kids, who are frozen in fear. "Everyone else, go to your rooms and don't disturb us until your parents come to get you. Understand?" She instructs. The kids all nod their heads without talking. They walk up the stairs silently, but Abuela grabs Douxie's hand. "When no one is looking, check on my granddaughter for me." She whispers, looking down at the floor. Douxie notices what she's doing and follows and mouths 'thank you' to her before catching up with his friends.
As Abuela asked, Olivia, Lucas, Sebastian, Ophelia, Barbara, Javier, Julio, and Diego go to her office, where she waits for them with her arms crossed.
"¿Por qué está aquí? Ella no es parte de nuestra familia." Abuelo groans to his wife, gesturing to Barbara as they all walk in.
"Barbara is the mother of the boy who's dating Claire, and I believe you should treat her with more respect after what you said about her son," Abuela says flatly.
"Don't think I don't know what you guys are talking about. ¡Hablo Espanol! I understand." Barbara hisses at Julio. "How dare you talk about us like that. We did nothing to you."
"Excepto que tu hijo tomó el corazón de mi nieta y podría violarla." He comments, causing Barbara, Abuela, Diego, Ophelia and Javier to gasp in shock.
"How dare you say that about my son! He is a good boy and would never do anything to Claire without her consent!" Barbara shouts, enraged.
"¡Silencios! ¡Los dos!" Abuela barks, and they obey. Barbara walks over to Javier, Ophelia, and Diego on one side of the room while Julio, Lucas, Olivia, and Sebastian are on the other.
"Mamá, it wasn't our fault. Ophelia and her daughter are the ones that are ruining our family!" Olivia speaks to her mother. "What Claire talks about, what she did on her first day here! She is a disgrace-"
But Abuela is having none of it. "Olivia, hold your tongue! How dare you talk towards your sister, our guests, and my granddaughter like that! You should be ashamed of yourself!" She says harshly, lashing and interrupting her daughter.
"Oh, here we go again." Lucas groans. "Ever since we were little, every time we got in trouble, it was always, "You should be ashamed of yourself" and "It's not Ophelia's fault." You always blame Olivia and me and never her!"
Ophelia rolls her eyes, reminding herself why she likes Sebastian more than her siblings. She does get in trouble with Lucas and Olivia or is at fault, and they're just playing the victim.
"Lucas Rafael López, your sister used to get into trouble and was punished and scolded a lot when you were growing up. Don't play that trick again with me, boy!" Abuela snares, making Ophelia try to hold in a laugh. Lucas growls as he hears his mother say his full name like he was ten years old.
"Mamá! We just want Claire to hold our family tradition and become your heir." Sebastian says softly.
"No, Sebastian! If they wanted that, they would ask for a compromise with Claire, but instead, they insult what she grew up with since she was little! Her friends, choices, school, education, and dreams! Clair gave her a compromise about Diego taking her place! Isn't that enough?"
"But she is breaking tradition-"
"Oh fuck tradition Papá! Shut up, all of you, about that shit!" Ophelia screams, balling up her fists in rage, drawing everyone's eyes to her.
"Ophelia, calm down," Javier whispers to his wife, grabbing her wrist. But Ophelia yanks it away.
"Ophelia Veronica Nuñez, you are out of-"
Ophelia steps forward and stares her father down with fierce eyes. "Oh, I'm out of line, Papá? You are the one who is out of line! I knew what you guys would do if you controlled my daughter! I would never want her to go through what I went through when I was her age! She wants to go to college, live with her friends and have a happy life of her own! She's amazing, but you are too blind to see that! She gives you drawings, reads, tells you about what she did, and shows what she finds, but you are never satisfied with it! She is the type of child any parent would be proud of, and I'm happy to say that I am so proud of my daughter and the woman she will become." She says proudly, interrupting her father. She is furious. Furious about her siblings and angry with her father, she was most furious with herself. Having a family who would be so shameful and having them access to her child makes her sick. "You don't think I ever regret leaving here or felt remorseful about it? I did, but every time my mind went there, telling me I had made a mistake, every time I stepped toward my dream, I pushed it down with the things I received. An amazing boyfriend to husband, an amazing career, and soon, a beautiful child that I've brought into this world. I do regret leaving this place, but I don't regret stepping out of the door to the life I have now."
Abuelo blinks and stares at her daughter with surprise. He always loved his children, especially his first daughter and child, but his conservative mind put a wedge between the two. He couldn't wrap his head around his daughter's choice in wanting to leave the family, but Abuela can and smiles. Proud of her daughter.
"Diego, will you come here, please?" Abuela asks kindly her eldest grandchild. Diego obeys without a word and stands next to his grandmother. Abuela grabs Diego's hands, looks into his eyes, and sees what he and Claire are discussing. "Diego, are you sure you want to lead this family? I know you're working on going to college." She asks sternly.
Diego smiles and nods his head. "Yes, Abuela! I love this family and want to support my favorite cousin. We can work around me getting an education, and I'm ready, sure, and prepared for this." He says confidently.
Abuela smiles. "Then it is decided. You will take Claire's place, but we'll continue with her birthday and ceremony. Go and tell your cousin."
"How dare you be disgraceful to our family, offend our ancestors, and-"
"Shut up, Mother! You, Tío Lucas, and Abeulo are the ones who are being disgraceful and wrong to this family and our ancestors!" Diego yells at his mother. "I would rather see Claire be happy than miserable every day for the rest of her life! Our ancestors, even Veronica, would want this!" He adds and steps close to his mother's face. "And you can do nothing to stop my and Abuela's decision." He says calmly but thoughtfully.
Olivia stares at her son in shock with wide eyes. She glances around the room and, in her mind, tries to find someone and words to help her. Diego shoves his shoulder into her and walks out of the room. But Olivia isn't backing down. "¡Vuelve aquí mocoso mimado!" She screams and runs after her son, but Diego picks up the pace, eager to tell Claire the news, and his athleticism is too much for Olivia to catch up to him. While Diego ran, his aunt Ophelia watched him, smiling happily.
Author Note: I have a feeling if this was animated, the scenes would be much more fun with Ophelia and scary with Olivia. But I hope you like it. Please review!
