Author Note: Sorry for the slow update. I'm doing the best I can with school, getting ready for college, finals and my write's block. I'm also working four shifts pre week as a hostess in a restaurant on top of dealing with school. This takes place when Claire is six years old.
I wake up and start crying, screaming from a nightmare. I look around the room, seeing nothing but my nightlights. Mamá places them there as I'm scared of the dark, thinking something in there will grab me.
I hear the door open and my parents running into the room. "Claire, what's wrong?! Are you alright?" Mamá and Papá ask frantically, rushing over to my bed.
But I start crying and lean into Mamá's arms. She wraps her arms around me and holds me tightly. "Mamá, I'm scared..." I sob. "I saw so many bad things and heard scary noises..."
"Shhhh, Shhhh, Shhhh! It's alright, Claire. It was just a bad dream. You are safe now. It's alright; you're alright. Shhhh!" Mamá mumbles in my ear, stroking my hair.
Papá also hugs and shushes me. "It's alright, Mija. You're safe with us. Don't cry." He whispers.
I calm down and beg one of them to stay with me. Mamá decides to stay, and Papá kisses my forehead before returning to bed. "Mamá, I'm scared... I don't want to go back to bed." I cry.
"Awww, sweetie. It's ok, but you need to go back to bed. You have school tomorrow; there's nothing to be scared about." Mamá says gently, rubbing my back, but I shake my head and start crying again. Mom takes a deep breath and smiles sweetly at me. "Then cuddle close and scoot in."
She lays down on my bed, and I cuddle close in her arms. "Listen to me dear; there's nothing here to fear. You are close to me, and that was meant to be. It won't hurt you here. Your powers are coming clear. This shadow storm inside, you don't need to hide." She starts singing a lullaby; she always sings when I'm scared. I cuddle closer to her, making her grip me tighter.
"But Mamá, I'm scared. I don't know what's happening to me." I cry frantically but softly.
"Claire, you'll be alright. It's a part of you, and you need to learn to live with it; you can control it." She says sweetly.
"No, I can't! I don't even know how, and what if I'm going to hurt someone?"
Mamá looks sincerely. "No, you won't." And scoops me up in her arms and walks to my window, rocking me. "Claire, I will protect you. I will always be beside you. You will be safe and sound. No need to have fear. These powers make you special, dear. They're a part of you. We know what you're going through." She sings as I start to drift off, looking at the moonlight. "Remember, I love you. Just the way you are."
I fall asleep in her arms.
I hear this song repeatedly during my travels to New Jersey, like a guide from my mother.
Author Note: Again, I'm sorry for the slow update. This was just a cute chapter of how Close Claire was to her mother. Please review.
