"Kay Mom, I'm going to head out." Will called down the hall.
"So soon?" Joyce asked, coming out of the bathroom with brush in hand.
"We're starting a campaign today. We really want to get as much done as possible." Will told her, slinging his backpack on.
"Okay, where is it at?" Joyce asked.
"Steve's. Can I-" Will started.
"Yes, you can stay the night." Joyce finished for him. "Do have a ride there and back?"
Will nodded and gave her a swift hug and a small "I love you" and raced out the door.
Joyce sighed and continued to run the brush through her hair.
She picked up the remote and turned on the TV.
The Cheers tune came back at her.
Joyce slowed down her brushing.
She could almost hear Bob's laughter next to her.
'But' Joyce thought. 'Was I laughing?'
Bob's laugh echoed through her ears.
She tried to match the energy, but it didn't work.
Joyce was distracted.
Will had been distant lately.
He'd come out of the bathroom pale a couple of times.
He never told her what was bothering him.
But she knew something was.
"Joyce?" Bob asked. "You alright?"
Joyce snapped out of her daze. "Yeah, I'm fine." Joyce forced a smile. "Just thinking."
"About what?"
Joyce opened her mouth to tell him about her suspicions about Will, about how she knew something was wrong, but Will wasn't talking to her, and how she was scared that Will was in trouble again.
But she decided against it, for what reason she didn't know. So, she told Bob, "Oh just something with work."
Bob nodded and turned back to the screen.
Joyce thought about who she would tell about this.
Even if they didn't know the truth about why Will disappeared.
Joyce thought and thought, and finally came up with an answer.
Hopper.
Not just because he knew the truth, but because he would get it.
Oh gosh, now she really wants to talk to Hopper.
'Stop it.' Joyce told herself. 'You're with your boyfriend. Stop thinking about Hopper and start focusing on Bob.'
Joyce wondered what Hopper would think about Will.
Then she wanted to hit herself with a pillow.
But since Bob would wonder what she was doing, she pinched herself instead.
'Stop it.' Joyce thought. 'Stop it, stop it, stop it, stop it, stop it!'
Joyce took a deep breath and tried to focus on Cheers and Bob.
RING!
Joyce startled out of her spiral when the phone rang.
She picked it up, "Hello?"
"Hey Mom, just wanted to let you know that I got to Steve's safe." Will's voice carried over the line.
Joyce smiled. "Thanks, honey. Have fun, okay?"
"You got it. Love you." Will spoke.
"Love you too." Joyce hung up the phone and sighed.
She realized that some of her happy and cheerful memories weren't that happy and cheerful.
She had been distracted, worrying about Will and thinking about Hopper.
Joyce frowned.
She couldn't decide whether that was a bad thing or not.
Joyce shook her head, deciding that was for another day.
She had to get going, she would be late for her weekly checking out Hopper's items.
'Stop it!' her brain yelled at her.
