69- Tell the Truth
Summary: At the diner, Owens decides to tell El about Dr. Brenner and the Nina Project. This is how El reacts.
Requested by: Austin
Owens took a deep breath after his big speech.
El looked at him thoughtfully.
She gave a single nod.
Owens gave her a smile.
"Where are we going?" she asked.
Owens paused.
This would be the time to tell her about Brenner.
But what if she said no?
Owens looked at the girl in front of him.
She looked as if nothing could stop her.
So maybe this won't stop her.
El deserved to know.
Owens sighed.
"Eleven, there's something you should know."
El's eyebrows furrowed.
"I'm not going to be the head of this." he stated.
"Well, who is?" El asked.
Owens took a deep breath.
"Brenner."
El had a very subtle reaction.
Her eyebrows raised slightly more, though her eyes narrowed, and her mouth became slim.
"No." she stated and stood up, walking to the exit and slammed the door.
Owens sighed and followed, giving the waitress a small smile as he left.
El was pacing along the car when he got outside.
"I want to go back." she told him.
"I get that. But your friends-"
"My friends are in danger! And I can help them! I want to go back!" El screamed.
Owens paused then nodded.
"I understand. You want to help your friends. But you can't help them if you try to stop this thing with no powers. You will be useless to them. If you do come and try to get your powers back, you can help them for real. But I'm sorry it has to be with Brenner."
Tears sprung into El's eyes.
"That man ruined my life. Ruined my chances of being normal." she whispered.
Owens took a step closer. "I know, I know. But if you were normal, you wouldn't be able to help your friends."
El deflated.
Owens decided to try to lighten the mood. "You aren't going to ask how he's alive?"
El gave a small, sad smirk. "Please, I've seen some strange things. Someone coming back from the dead? It's nothing."
Owens huffed out a laugh, then tensed in awaiting El's answer.
"So, about your powers?"
El thought for a few moments.
Then nodded.
"Fine, I'll go. For my friends, not for him. And if he says one dumb thing I swear I'll punch him in the face."
Owens chuckled. "I have no doubt that you will."
Owens opened the car door for El. But before she got in, she turned.
"Thank you for telling me the truth." El stated.
Owens nodded. "I figured it was important."
El gave him a look then rolled her eyes and got in the car.
Owens shook his head and headed towards his side of the car.
Time to revive the super powered girl's powers.
