Well… Long time no see? I deep apologize to each and every one of you who were patiently waiting for an update on this story. I literally have no other excuses to use other than I had little time for writing multiple different fanfics at once and also having a bit of writer's block and lack of drive also didn't help. I have been meaning to come back to this fic for a while but I just wanted to wait until I had more time. And with my Aleheather fanfic coming to a close… I am back to Nemma! Haha. :D This chapter picks right up on Emma about to enter a video call with Noah's 3 older sisters. Let's see how it goes! ;)
(Emma's POV)
Okay Emma, you got this. Just remain calm and collected…
I just kept watching that circle still spinning and buffering on the screen, still not believing I was actually doing this. But, too late to turn back now since I've made the decision to commit to this.
Not to mention it would look completely suspicious if I backed out at the last second.
I let out a sigh and tried to calm down and get myself together as everything looked like it was finally synching up. I tried to release the tension as I gripped my hands together in my lap, trying to keep it together since this was the first time I ever got to this point with a guy's family in any way during a relationship.
I never met Jake's family when we were dating since we met a little before winter break in undergrad and then officially started dating around the beginning of that following Spring semester… and then he broke up with me by the time Finals week was over that same semester.
So, I was determined to make a good impression right now.
All of a sudden I saw all our cameras render and then immediately I saw them. I was about to start by saying 'hi' until I heard and saw his sister Sarah slap her hands down on whatever desk or table she was sitting at as she practically shouted, clearly referring to seeing me in shock and surprise with a huge smile spread across her face, "SHUT UP!"
"Oh my gosh! I can't believe we're finally meeting you! You are so pretty!" Hannah said, a little calmer but still a bit over the top.
"Guys, c'mon, are you trying to freak her out? Noah finally got a girlfriend, so let's not mess that up, okay?" Christina finally cut in, clearly trying to bring both of them down a notch.
Even though all of them just started laughing and taking playful jabs at each other. Sure, I was still kind of processing this, but I was also taking the opportunity to actually get a look at all of Noah's sisters now that they were all actually kind of in front of me.
Growing up, everyone always told Kitty and I we definitely looked like sisters and I could say the same about Noah's sisters... and then some.
All of them definitely have a very striking resemblance to each other.
Sure maybe not directly to Noah other than having the same skin tone, hair color, and eye color; but they all definitely looked like sisters. Particularly, and I have no idea why I didn't realize it until now, but Hannah and Sarah in particular looked like they were almost mirror images of each other, but I could tell which one Sarah was since she had shorter hair.
Not that Christina looked completely different, but Hannah and Sarah definitely looked very similar.
They all just kept looking at me now, but… I had no idea what exactly to say to them?
Dammit, I'm going to be a lawyer! Why didn't I prepare something for this?!
But, I tried to maintain a normal state even though I was kind of nervous. Not just because they were Noah's sisters, but I was more used to Noah's more laid back personality… and his sisters so far seemed so not that.
Yeah, I had Noah's fair warning of him being 'polar opposite' of all his siblings, kind of like Kitty and I are for sure, but… his sisters seemed very different from him since they seemed more over the top with their enthusiastic energy than Kitty is compared to me.
Then again, I remembered asking Noah what his family was like and I specifically remembered him skirting around it by saying his brothers were basically a bunch of 'meatheads' and his sisters were just a lot.
And so far… I could see what he meant.
But, I straightened up and managed to say, trying so hard to stay normal, "Hey, nice finally meeting you."
Sarah finally cut in after they kept looking at me for a few more seconds, "Sorry, it's just… wow. After we watched you guys on the race for basically only that reason, I just can't believe I'm talking to the first girl I've ever seen my pessimistic, smartass little brother completely crush on ever. Seriously, do you have magic powers or something? Because I have literally never seen Noah care this much about anyone or anything other than our dog or his computer."
Hannah rolled her eyes as she responded, "Wow Sarah, way to totally back hand her. Are you seriously comparing her to Casper or his stupid gaming computer? How about actually giving Emma a compliment, or better yet a freaking medal, for doing something that we thought was more impossible than Ben actually passing any of his Math classes in high school?"
"What? I thought I was complimenting her? We are still talking about the same Noah here, right? The same guy who always said that 'girls and dating are a total waste of time, so pass'." Sarah said back in defense, brushing her bangs out of her eyes as I was still trying to process everything.
"Hey, I have an idea. How about we actually let Emma say something?" Christina finally cut in.
I didn't really have any idea what to say until I recalled something I heard Sarah say as I asked, "Wait... you watched the race just for us?"
Hannah let out a quick 'pfft' before saying, "OH, trust me, you two were like the highlight of our week every week. I mean, not that we never watched the shows Noah was on, but… most of the time it was just 'Noah being Noah' and to us that's basically just a normal family get-together with him just being an introverted sarcastic, know-it-all. You know, Noah just being, well... Noah. But when we saw Noah totally start just completely crushing on you big time and you liking him back. It was one of the best things we've ever seen. Seriously, you guys were like our favorite weekly rom com that we'd watch together."
"Well, we watched it together… somebody had to split up the gang 2 years ago by meeting and then marrying some hot French guy and moving to Quebec. So, Tina would just call in and watch it from her house." Sarah cut in, making a teasing jab at Christina.
All I saw was Christina smirking to herself as she responded, just as playful as Sarah, "You said all that, but all I could hear is the word 'jealous'. Also, don't pretend like you were the one who started it since who was the one who was actually watching Noah during the race from the beginning and then told you guys about it?"
They all laughed and I was just feeling off since I didn't know what else to say as I tried 'taking things in' and 'surveying the situation'.
Finally we got into a space of awkward silence and I decided to say, "Well… I can definitely tell you are all sisters. How much older are you all than Noah?"
Sure I was trying to avoid the subject from when I broke up and put Noah into a temporary spiraling bout of depression, I was just weirdly curious about Noah and his family.
Again, now it's like I have so many more sources to learn more about him.
Finally Christina smiled and started with a shrug, "Well, pretty decent amount. And yeah, we got that a lot in school. Then again when you come from the biggest family in town, all the teachers knew you right off the bat by just seeing 'Mathai' and looking at you."
Then almost immediately Sarah picked up, "Which for us kind of sucked since things kind of get ruined for you when you follow up 4 rowdy and insane brothers. Well… mainly Ben."
Almost immediately I commented, "Oh yeah, I remembered Noah saying there were 9 of you, right?"
Christina chimed back in as she said, "Yup! Nine from Ben all the way down to Noah. Actually… here, let me give you the full 'Mathai family tour'. I think I have our picture from John's wedding of… got it! At that moment I saw the screen shift and a family picture appeared of what was clearly Noah's family. There was a couple that looked older standing next to a younger couple, the woman of the younger couple having dirty blonde hair, green eyes, and fair skin that made her look much different than everyone else in the picture. Otherwise everyone from the older middle aged couple all the way down to Noah looked very similar.
I was almost so distracted seeing a picture of Noah for a split second, especially seeing Noah in a suit with that slight smirk on his face… I shook my head as I heard Christina start, "This was a picture from our brother John's wedding 3 years ago. Taking it from the top the older guy with the graying beard is our dad, Abe, and next to him is our mom, Elizabeth. We were raised in an Indian Catholic family so you can probably see the 'kind of Bible name trend' as we go here. Well, except me. Technically I would have been if I was a boy, but once mom and dad had me, they changed from 'Christian' to 'Christina' pretty fast. Although honestly, how mom is even still alive after giving birth to all nine of us still kind of freaks me out to this day… Anyway, Ben's the oldest. He'll be 40 next March and we're all already planning on sending him a walker for his birthday."
His sisters all laughed as I was still looking over the picture, mainly at Noah's parents.
Mainly that… they were NOT what I was expecting based on Noah.
Then again, looking at everyone in the picture and then looking at Noah… you could tell Noah was the only one who wasn't athletically inclined like anyone else in his family.
His dad was especially, even though looking to be in his early 60's, was this towering and hulking man with a full black beard and full head of black hair with gray streaks going through them.
Pretty much the only thing I could pick out that Noah seemed to get from his dad were his eyes and nose, but otherwise… nothing else.
Then again the beard made it hard to tell.
Even his mom was hard for me to pick out certain details. She was pretty tall, but was very slender and had thick dark brown hair and dark brown almost black eyes.
And all Noah's brother's for the most part seemed almost like cloned, mirror images of his dad.
All of them were tall, athletic, and just... built. Well, at least all of them seemed at way until one of Noah's brothers caught my attention as being slightly different.
Ben and 3 of Noah's other brothers looked pretty clean cut like Mr. Mathai, but the one I was looking at had a look about him that made him seem almost like an outcast in the picture like Noah.
Sure he was tall and had probably the most sculpted arms I've ever seen personally, and that was even with him wearing a dress shirt with a vest and tie with the sleeves rolled up. And even though his arms were mostly covered, he had tattoos on his forearms and going up his neck slightly and giving me the impression he had WAY more than what I could see.
His ears were pierced with a black stud in each one and his slightly long black hair was completely mussed and tousled a bit. And I had no idea why and even though he wasn't 'my type', but… he was gorgeous.
Weird, but I had no other way to describe it as I kept looking at him in the picture.
Honestly he'd probably be the kind of guy that Kitty would go for… and that I would try to steer her away from for many reasons.
"See you found, Luke."
I could see them all looking at me until Sarah said, "Don't worry about it. Luke has always been getting looks like that from girls. Honestly, if it wasn't for Noah, Luke would have probably been getting most of the teasing. Everyone from Ben to John would always call him 'pretty boy' or 'preener'. That he's always been a little bit more of an 'artsy' kind of guy with his music. But they were all just jealous Luke always got more girls interested than any of them. Then again, he's had to deal with Hannah and I crowding him since before we were born so he's always been surrounded by girls his whole life."
They all started laughing again as a sudden realization hit me.
"Wait, 'before you were born'?" I asked out loud.
Hannah grinned and shrugged as she said, "Yeah! Luke, Sarah, and I are triplets. Sarah and I are identical twins and Luke just kind of tagged along in the womb."
Then Sarah was quick to cut in, "Just the womb? More like our whole childhood."
All three of them started laughing until in the background I heard a baby crying as I saw Christina look behind her before looking back at us while saying, "Sorry guys, I need to go feed Henri. Pierre's at the firehouse today so its just me at home. We'll talk later, okay?"
Sarah waved it off as she started, biting her lip a little, "Honestly, I have laundry I've been ignoring all day so I need to do something."
"Same here. The kids will be back from school any second so I need to get ready to be asked a million questions about their homework that I don't know the answers to." Hannah responded as they all started laughing again.
Christina smiled and waved a little as she said, "Sorry to cut out, Emma. But, it was awesome to be able to have you on the chat. Hopefully we didn't totally freak you out too much and make you never want to talk to us ever again? But, maybe we can go through the rest of the picture next time?"
I tried to act as naturally as possible, still trying not to 'put my foot in my mouth' and say something stupid in front of Noah's sisters to ruin my first impression.
Somehow I managed to smile as I started, "Oh no, this was fun. Thanks for the invitation. Besides I have a lot of studying to get through so I should probably sign off too."
Sarah snapped her fingers and commented, "Oh yeah, that's right! You're in law school. Leave it to Noah to find someone just as much of a brainiac as him… Er, no offense, Emma! You're cool!"
I grimaced slightly as Christina cut in, "How about we all just say 'bye' before anyone says anything stupid?"
"I second that." I jumped in immediately as I involuntarily raised my hand, wanting to sign off just to keep myself from digging myself into a hole.
But, after all of us signed off, I had to admit that all things considered… That went pretty well.
Sure Noah's sisters weren't anything I expected, especially considering Noah's sisters had to have been in their late 20's or early 30's… Noah honestly acts so much more laid back and mature than all of them by a long shot.
Again, and not to jinx myself, but… that could've gone worse.
I know this chapter was pretty 'dialogue heavy' but I plan on going more into Noah and Emma's personal lives with their families and how their family dynamics work. In this chapter, I wanted to give a little sneak peak into Noah's life "Being the runt of a nine-sibling litter" (Fresh TV). We'll get more into this later. ;) For now, I hope you enjoyed meeting Noah's grown adult women sisters with teenage energy that are just typical over prying and over the top personality sisters that really mean well in their own ways. What will happen next time? And who is the mysterious 'paparazzi' following Emma even in Noah's absence around? Stay tuned to find out. ;) Anyway, thank you all so much for reading and constructive reviews are always GREATLY appreciated.
Take care and stay classy all!
