Ch16

The chaos in Asgard started when the Norns, the main prophesiers of their pantheon uttered a prophecy.

A live Son of Frey has gone astray and left the gods of his ancestors. To defend his loved ones he will do. Asgard's future will rest upon his decisions. A bridge to build or destroy for Asgard. Asgard's future will be in his hands for better or worse.

To say that the prophecy caused confusion and turmoil would be an understatement. Odin had called an assembly of the Aesir and Vair when he got a notification from their messenger god Hermod. "Lord Odin, the Fenris wolf sent his minions to attack the camp of the Greeks. The Greeks are furious and are sending a messenger now," he said out of breath.

There were murmurs and shouts of surprise at the news. "This must be Loki's doing," Thor muttered. "I'll teach that bloody fool a lesson."

"Let us gather information first. Heimdall allow the messenger here into Asgard," Odin ordered. Heimdall nodded and went to the Biforst. They waited as they heard Heimdall open the Biforst, the rainbow bridge that connected them to Midgard.

Diplomatic relations between pantheons were common these days; usually, messenger gods or those with a lot of influence acted as messengers or diplomats.

The Norse deities, who were fully armored in Viking era armor watched as Hermod led the Greek messenger God Hermes who was wearing his traditional Greek style outfit. Hermes bowed. "Lord Odin it is a pleasure to meet your acquaintance."

"Greetings Hermes. What message does Olympus bring Asgard." Odin looked at the god calmly, Olympus and Asgard always competed for who was the strongest pantheon in the West. This isn't a war though; Zeus has his own problems.

"I come on behalf of Lord Zeus to convey our displeasure at the actions of a member of your pantheon," Hermes said as the other Gods murmured amongst each other. "Wolves under the command of Fenris attempted to attack and harm our children," he said seriously. "Lord Zeus is furious and would like an explanation."

Odin sighed as he watched Frigg stare at Hermes with a neutral. Thor and Tyr gripped their weapons as they muttered something about Loki.

"I express my regrets that this has happened and will look into it. Does Lord Zeus wish to communicate with me?"

Hermes nodded, "He said if you are willing then he will allow for a message via Iris Message."

Odin nodded, "Fine I will allow it." Usually, such a thing would not work in Asgard without his permission but since Hermes was acting as a diplomat he would allow it.

Hermes nodded and tossed a gold coin into the air and a misty image appeared of Olympus. In front of them were Zeus, his wife Hera, Athena, and Dionysus all in traditional Greek attire. This isn't one of their main meetings must be serious for Dionysus and Athena to be there. What did Loki do now?

"Greetings Lord Zeus I hope all is well with your affairs," Odin said. He knew that the Greeks were on the brink of a full-blown civil war and that was something he did not wish for his pantheon to get involved in. This must just be a backoff type of thing

"Lord Odin, things are ok for now," Zeus said firmly. He watched his Greek counterpart stare at him with unwavering eyes as he spoke. "I would like to know why those wolves were near our children."

To the point as always. "I would not know Lord Zeus, the Fenris wolf is restrained and often works through his intermediaries. I do not the reasons why he sent them after your camp or if it was a misunderstanding."

"Well that misunderstanding almost had my sons devoured," Dionysus growled glaring at them. Odin noticed that some of Aesir glared at the Wine God, Dionysus and Demeter were still remembered for trying to destroy their crops during their past wars.

"You have our condolences, I hope they along with the other children at your camp were not injured," Odin said firmly. "We will investigate this incident on our end."

"They were not," Zeus said. "However, be aware Odin that in our current situation, misunderstandings are not tolerated."

"I will look into it," He said seriously. Zeus nodded and Odin noticed that his wife Hera was glaring at the screen. Odin turned and saw Freya smiling and waving at Zeus while Frigg winked at the Olympian who quickly winked at them when he thought no one was looking. "Is there anything else you need?" He asked as Zeus let out a sigh.

"None just make sure your tricksters stay out of our business," Zeus said seriously. Odin nodded as the two exchanged final pleasantries and the message was ended. "Thank you Lord Hermes, I hope you have a safe trip back to Olympus. We will look into this incident and convey any findings to you through Hermod."

"Thank you Lord Odin," Hermes said with a bow as Hermod and Heimdall escorted him back to the Bifrost so he could go back to Midgard.

As soon as Hermes was gone there was an uproar among the deities. "Silence," He ordered as the room fell silent at the sound of his voice. "Many things have happened recently and squabbling will not help us."

"Father this is too much, even for Loki to mess in the affairs of another pantheon," Thor said as he gripped his hammer and stand up. "I should knock some sense into him."

"Not yet," he ordered causing Thor to sigh and sit back down. "Everyone listen well, Asgard is not going to involve itself in the affairs of the Greeks. We will look into this thoroughly but let us not jump to conclusions we should all watch our steps from here on out."

There was a bunch of murmurs in the crowd. "Father what about the message from the Norns? About the son of Frey," Thor said.

Odin sighed as he watched Frey shift uncomfortably in his seat. "Frey do you by chance know who this son might be?

Frey sighed and shook his head, "I do not, I usually do not keep track of my children; especially if they are alive."

"Find out who it might be," Odin said as he silenced the murmurs. "Gone astray it is possible that he was adopted into another pantheon."

"The only other major pantheons in the area are the Egyptians and Greeks. He could have easily been absorbed into one of them," The War God Tyr said as he looked up at him. "Maybe this child's mom remarried or something and grew up in association with this new pantheon."

"If only we had built a camp like the Greeks this would stop happening," Frigg said with a sigh. "How many of our mortal children just die on the streets or get absorbed into another pantheon and reject us? It wouldn't take much work either, it could be in a place well in our power."

"But they reach Valhalla so it doesn't matter," Thor snorted as he held his hammer. "Besides if this kid loves his new pantheon so much why don't we let him stay there? Asgard has no need for those who do not love it and reject their roots."

"Because apparently, he plays a role in this prophecy," Frey said with a sigh. "Lord Odin I will check the status of my former lovers and see what I can find out."

Odin nodded, "Do that and make it quick. Heimdall will assist you in any way you need." Frey nodded as he got up and went to prepare for his trip.

"I propose we send a group of scouts to New York. Both Egyptians and Greeks have strongholds there, we can try and find information about this boy and why the wolf tried to attack them," Thor said as he gripped his hammer.

"Now? How would the Greeks react if they knew we sent spies after this fiasco," Frigg said as she rolled her eyes.

Odin sighed, "We need information. I will allow for a small party to assemble but under the strict command that they do not interact with other pantheons. As long as they don't bother the others then they probably won't mind. If anyone has any ideas for who should go let me know."

There were murmurs in the crowd but he silenced them with his voice. "We must act united in these times. I do not know what the future has in store but we will be ready."

"Hey Magnus do you have everything ready?" Annabeth asked as she watched her cousin back his bag as he got ready to visit Percy again.

Her cousin turned to her and nodded, "Yeah I am. Are you sure you don't want to go? I am sure he won't mind."

"No I have plans," she said avoiding her cousin's gaze. Besides if he wanted to invite me to his place himself she thought bitterly.

"Well ok, have fun with Thalia," Magnus said as he grabbed his bag and looked at her. She still couldn't believe how much her cousin had grown. Magnus appeared to be growing out his blonde hair and while he was still skinny he had grown a good amount of muscle while growing a few inches as well. His complexion was still pale but he looked a bit livelier, overall he was getting bigger. People will start thinking that he is older than me soon.

"I will," she said with a tight smile.

As much as she was glad Percy and Magnus were friends the fact that Percy seemed to prefer Magnus more at times made her frustrated, to say the least.

"You too," he said as he got into the van. Annabeth waved goodbye as the van left the campgrounds and drove off.

"Your cousin is seeing that son of Poseidon again?" Thalia asked.

Annabeth turned and saw her friend walk towards her and sighed, "Yeah he is, they will spend Thanksgiving together with Percy's mom."

"Your cousin has had so much communication with him they must be really close," Thalia said.

Annabeth felt a twinge of something in her stomach, it wasn't anger but close to it. "They are just friends, Percy and Magnus have been close since they met."

"Yeah and when your cousin couldn't get into Percy's school he chooses the school nearest to him so that they could hang out like every weekend and when they were free," Thalia said with a smirk.

Annabeth sighed as she and Thalia headed to the beach together. "Yeah, Magnus didn't get to spend much time with Percy this past summer so maybe they are just catching up."

She remembered how surprised she was when she found out that her cousin was going to a mortal school near Percy's and that the two hung out a lot. They apparently meet up often, Percy must really see him as a friend she thought as she let out a sigh as she remembered how Magnus would talk about the things he did with Percy for fun and while she was glad her cousin had a friend she couldn't help but feel jealous. I am Percy's friend too right?

She was glad her cousin had a friend, she really was. However, she still couldn't help but feel miffed and even a little jealous that Percy never called her and even though her cousin claimed that she could come and talk to him or meet him at his place she wanted to hear it from Percy himself.

I mean we did go on that quest to the Sea of Monsters together and all. We became close even though I knew he wanted to do the quest with Magnus at first. She thought as she remembered the first few days on the quest, Percy didn't say it outright but she could tell he wanted Magnus to come along on the quest with him. Even though the two bonded she felt a bit pushed to the side when they came back and all Percy wanted to do was catch up with Magnus.

"Your cousin has grown a lot," Thalia said as they sat down on some rocks and stared out at the ocean. "And I mean a lot," she said emphasizing the last word. "I almost didn't recognize him at first, puberty is going to hit him hard."

"Yeah he has grown up a lot," Annabeth said as she looked out at the ocean. Speaking of puberty I should ask dad to give him the talk, the last time he and Percy swam together people were gawking at them. She tried to think of something else but could only think about her cousin and Percy. "He enjoys it here I am glad he is well even though he has not been claimed."

"Why is that?" Thalia asked curiously.

Annabeth sighed. "I don't know, maybe his godly parent forgot about him, but he doesn't seem to mind. He is happy here and that is good, he even has a friend." Frankly Chiron thought that Magnus could be an example to some of the unclaimed kids but her hopes weren't that high.

"Well it doesn't matter a lot of kids are never claimed," Thalia said with a sigh. "Is everything alright Annabeth?" She asked with concern as her friend looked at her.

"Yeah it just with everything going on I can't help but feel overwhelmed at times," she said forcing a smile on her face.

Thalia sighed and looked out at the water, "Yeah I know. I still can't believe what happened with Luke, he was such a good guy. I can't believe how much has changed," she murmured as she looked out at the sea.

"Yeah things changed; Luke when he took that quest he wasn't the same. He failed and only had the scar as a reward for his quest," she said. "I still can't believe he is doing all of this damage; I mean to help Kronos. A part of me still thinks that it is all a lie," she said looking at Thalia.

"Yeah I can't believe it either," Thalia said shaking her head. "I mean we all looked up to him, he was like a father figure to us. He trained and took care of us. I mean I don't know what happened with his dad but I can't believe he is siding with Kronos and nearly started a war."

And almost killed Percy too she thought as she felt her heart leap inside of her. Luke and Percy were both special to her and made her heart twist in confusion as her mind and heart fought over which deserved her attention more. Ugh boys are so stupid she thought as she forced herself to think of anything else and ignored the mixed feelings about the two men who her heart had mixed feelings for.

"I just hope we can all survive this war," Thalia said as she looked up at the sky. "Hopefully not many people die."

"Yeah me too," she said as she looked out at the waves. "Hopefully everything can go back to the way it was."

Gunilla Thorsdottir looked at the city from the apartment she was renting and used it as a base. The daughter of Thor was in New York City on a special mission assigned by her father and Odin and she had no intention of failing it. The Valkyrie captain looked out her window as she thought about what to do next when she heard a voice from behind her.

"Lady Gunilla we are here," the dwarf Blitzen said. She turned around and saw the dwarf and the white-haired elf Hearthstone standing behind her. They were assigned to work with her upon recommendation from Odin and the God Mimir.

She sighed as she looked at her companions. A dwarf and a deaf elf could be worse but apparently, they are good at working on the streets. She would have preferred her own valkyrie companions or even some einherjar but Odin and Mimir requested that she bring them so she was not in a position to say no.

"Listen both of you, we know the orders we have," she said in a firm voice as the dwarf translated what she said. I am pretty sure he can read lips though she thought as she watched the elf look at her intently and nod.

"We have to find clues about Fenrir wolf and more importantly about this missing son of Frey," She said slowly and seriously. The dwarf and elf nodded as she took a deep breath. "Under no condition are you both allowed to bring shame to Asgard," she said seriously.

"We understand Lady Gunilla," Blitzen said with a bow. The elf nodded as well and did a small bow. "Oh Lady Gunilla if I may, I have a contact with the Egyptians is it alright if I contact him quickly?"

Gunilla nodded, "So long as it does not implicate Asgard in any negative way you may. Now get going report to me if and when you find anything," she said. The two nodded and bowed as they turned around and exited her apartment.

When she was alone she sighed as she looked down at the map of the city. A son of Frey has gone and assimilated into another pantheon. She gripped her fist as she felt her anger boil at the thought. Even though this boy probably knew nothing of the Gods and never had any interaction with the Norse her blood boiled at the thought of any child of the Norse gods turning traitor. Loyalty was something she valued deeply and disloyalty to Asgard was something she could not tolerate.

To turn one's back on their culture and to reject one's family how could anyone do that she thought as she glared at the map where the Empire State building was. For her, loyalty was everything, and to betray one's roots and family was unforgivable to her. She slammed her fist on the table, depending on this kid's attitude he better hope that they find him first and that I am in a good mood.
