Chapter 3: I have an idea

Phoenix leaned over the boiling pot, shook her head, and went back to the Book of Shadows. Something didn't look right. She looked back at the contents she had on the kitchen island, wondering if she should add some more herbs.

Kaleb sat across from her, jotting several things down. What, Phoenix didn't know, she was paying attention more to the potion in front of her. She grabbed some herbs next to her. 'I think I forgot to put these in.'

"I have an idea!" Kaleb said suddenly.

Phoenix chopped the herbs carefully before responding. She was good with knife cuts, but not like her Aunt Piper. Kaleb watched her brush the freshly chopped herbs into the pot.

"What is it?" Phoenix responded, stirring the boiling pot slowly counterclockwise.

"What if you orb a letter to Harry?" He watched the boiling pot carefully. Waiting for it to explode, while Phoenix stopped her stirring to look back at the Book of Shadows.

She glanced back up and walked towards the step stool to reach the upper counters, "Harry nor Ron know nothing about my powers." Grabbing what she needed, she walked back to the island.

"You have told Hermione but not Harry or Ron?"

Phoenix placed the herb bottle on the counter. "I thought you already knew that." She looked at the boiling pot, stirred it some more, then back at the Book of Shadows. Scratching her head, she poured out a tablespoon of the new herb.

"Are you planning on telling them?"

Phoenix looked up from the Book of Shadows. "Yes, but…." she shrugged. "I don't know how and how they will react."

"You said Hermione didn't really care."

"She didn't. Hermione found it intriguing. But she didn't go through what Harry and I did."

"Harry doesn't remember though."

"But we both know memory dust isn't reliable."

Kaleb smiled, "that is true."

Kaleb laughed. "I don't remember you caring about what others thought."

Phoenix kept her eyes on the Book of Shadows. "Maybe I can orb the letter."

Kaleb noticed the change. 'Interesting.' He thought. "How is your invisibility coming?"

"I'm getting very good at it," she said, phasing out.

Kaleb rolled his eyes at the empty location. "Show off," he said as Piper walked into the kitchen.

Piper glanced around, noticing Kaleb at the kitchen island and a boiling pot. Who she didn't see was her niece. Walking over to the pot, she turned the fire down to a simmer before looking at the contents inside. "Kaleb, where is Phoenix?" she said, glancing at the book in front of her. "Phoenix?" she asked again. She could feel her, but she couldn't see her. Kaleb followed her eyes, holding in a laugh. Piper looked back at Kaleb, narrowing her eyes. "She is invisible, isn't she?" Kaleb continued to hold his laughter.

Piper was about to ask again when Phoenix phased in behind her aunt. "Hey Aunt Piper!"

The simmering pot froze as Piper jumped. She turned around, swatting Phoenix on the shoulder. Kaleb finally released his laughter, causing Phoenix to join him. Piper glared at the two before swatting at Phoenix again. She easily ducked it and sat next to Kaleb.

Piper released a sigh and waited till the giggling preteens settled. She unfroze the pot, picked up the spoon, and stirred. "Let's see how your potion turned out." She stirred the potion again and filled the empty jar. The potion went from swamp green to neon. "Looks great Phoenix. You and Katie have a knack for potions. You two are the only ones so far to get this right on the first try."

Phoenix smiled with excitement until it registered what her aunt said. "Wait, Wyatt and Chris didn't get this on their first?"

Piper shook her head. "Took them multiple times. Same for your mom." She said, bottling some more of the finished potion.

The three heard the door open and close. "Piper!"

"In here, Phebs." Piper glanced at her watch. "Did you and your sister have lessons with Phoebe today?" Phoenix looked off in thought, then shook her head.

"Not that I remember. Aunt Phoebe never told me anything."

"Huh," Piper turned the fire off, grabbed some of the filled bottles, and went towards the cabinet. Phoebe was early.

Phoebe waltzed into the kitchen with a small smile on her face. "Hey everyone. Did potion lessons go well?" She asked.

An enormous smile plastered on Phoenix's face. "It did, see!"

Piper held up a bottle. "Impressive. Looks like your potions class at Hogwarts gave you an extra boost."

"Speaking of Phoenix, I would like to look at your potions book before you leave for school."

"Oh! I forgot to grab it. I'll have to give it to you at next lesson." She looked at Kaleb, who shrugged and mouthed, orb. "Actually," she then looked back at her aunts, "can I try something?"

Her aunts glanced at each other and shrugged. "Okay."

Phoenix looked at Kaleb again before closing her eyes, visualizing her potions book on her bed. "Potions book." she opened her eyes, seeing the usual blue and white orbs forming her book. "It worked!" She looked up at her aunts, then at Kaleb.

"You didn't think it would?" Piper asked. "I thought Katie orbed you a pit for Thanksgiving."

"That was mom. Katie told me in the letter."

"Well, your sister and you are more powerful than you two think you are."

"And you and your sister's powers are continually growing. It wouldn't surprise me if you both get new powers each year." Phoebe stated.

Phoenix's shoulders slumped. "As much as new powers sounds cool, I'm just now getting the hang of my invisibility."

"Don't worry. We are here to help the both of you, and Prue won't let the Elders give you two anything if she didn't think the both of you couldn't handle it." Phoebe smiled, rubbing Phoenix's back.

Phoenix gave Phoebe a smile, then handed Piper her potions book. Piper grabbed the book and began flipping through it. Phoebe moved over close to Piper, looking over her shoulder.

"Wow, we could incorporate some of these into our practice," Phoebe commented. Piper nodded in reply.

Phoenix thought about what had just happened. If she could orb the potions book to Aunt Piper's kitchen, Kaleb's idea would succeed. Phoenix looked up at the clock, calculating. It was late in London, but that could give her the advantage. "Aunt Piper, are we done for the day?"

Piper looked at Phoenix, then at her watch. "Yes." She looked back at her niece, "you did great today, Phoenix."

"Congrats kid. I don't know about tomorrow. There may be something I have to do, but if not, we will have lessons. I will let you know."

"Okay," she rushed over to hug her aunts then back to Kaleb to grab his hand.

"What's the hurry?" Phoebe asked.

"I have to write a letter to Harry!" Phoenix responded in a rush. She waved a goodbye before orbing herself and Kaleb out.

Phoebe smiled, watching the last of the blue and white orbs disappear. "Aw, our niece has a crush."

Piper looked at Phoebe and smiled. "Don't tell Henry. He will interrogate Coop."

Phoebe laughed, "true."

Piper put the book down and started clearing off the island. "All right Phebs, spill."

Phoenix orbed Kaleb and herself into the living room of her home. Her dad was sitting on the couch watching tv almost half asleep. Phoenix looked around, noticing he was alone.

"Where is everyone?"

"Well, hello to you too," he grogged.

Phoenix smiled, giving her dad a hug. "Hello daddy. Long day?"

He smiled back, nodded, and yawned. "Yes, how about you? Did Piper drive you hard, or was it the chores your mother had you do?"

"Mom's chores." She caught his yawn, then straightened up with pride. "I made the potion Aunt Piper assigned. She said it was perfect and was impressed that it was my first try."

"She said Katie did too. Don't forget." Kaleb added. Phoenix stuck her tongue at him.

"Wow, congrats. If it's the one I remember, Katie said it was a tough one." He looked over at Kaleb. "Your mom called and said she was stuck at work. Apparently, there was an emergency surgery she couldn't get out of, so you're stuck with us for another day."

"Okay, thanks." Kaleb shrugged; the Mitchell-Matthews house was like a second home to him. He wasn't bothered like he used to be.

"Where is everyone?" Phoenix repeated.

"Jr. is at camp, your sister is over at a friend's house for a sleepover, and your mother came by mumbling something about someone before she left. I couldn't understand her. Had to be something non-magical as she took her car."

Phoenix looked over at the table next to the door. Her dad was right, her mom's car keys were gone. She gave her dad another hug before hopping off his lap. "Going to my room!" She grabbed Kaleb and headed upstairs.

Once in her room, Phoenix grabbed a sheet of paper, a pen, and an envelope, then headed towards her desk, while Kaleb sat on her bed. She jotted a letter, folded it up, stuck it in the envelope, and sealed it. She looked at it, then at Kaleb.

"Here we go." Phoenix closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "Harry Potter's room." The envelope was engulfed in blue and white orbs before it disappeared.

"Now we wait and see if he writes back." Kaleb stated.

Phoenix nodded. "And if magic is at play."

Harry was tucked in his bed, eyes wide awake, staring at the window. Many things were going through his mind. After Phoenix and her mom left, which was strange, how did they know where he lived, his uncle started interrogating him. Phoenix never mentioned her mom's occupation or her family. If she did, he couldn't remember. But her mom, saying she was a social worker, had his aunt and uncle on edge.

Then there was that note Mrs. Matthews gave him. What did it mean by hollering for her? There wasn't a number anywhere on the note. It had to be magical. Harry thought about testing it but decided against it. If it had something to do with magic, he would try later when it's a dire need.

Harry looked at the clock on his nightstand. It was a little after two in the morning. He should try to get some sleep. Taking his glasses off, Harry was about to close his eyes when he heard an odd noise coming from his desk. Quickly put his glasses back on, Harry rolled over, catching a glimpse of blue and white orbs before they disappeared. Harry rubbed his eyes before looking back at his desk. Those were the same lights he saw at Hagrid's.

Harry looked around, making sure no one else was in the room with him. Satisfied, he got out of bed, tipped toed to the desk, and saw what looked to be an envelope. An envelope with his name on it. His name, written in a familiar handwriting, his best friend's…. Phoenix.

A/N: There have been requests for having more of Phoenix's "Charmed" life. I am planning on adding more once the series progresses. I hope these few chapters have been satisfying so far!

Thank you to Timothy01 and Supernatural lover XD for the idea of the letters!
