Knowing the characters of JoJo, a big theme is centralized about breaking through fate with unwavering resolve. In a desperate scramble for survival and the Arrow, a burning desire to protect and to win flares up in two of the first Stand Users of the race. Time to set the stage, because this isn't the craziest things will get. Not even close.
"Now! Heaven's Door!" Gwen yells out as she shuts the page.
Lili was very confused. In the moment where her sense of time slowed down, Gwen had used her Stand on her, and had written a command on her arm telling her to move backwards. Suddenly, an unknown force shifts her body backwards, causing her to fly out of the way while dragging the rest of the group with her.
Gwen dodges to the side as the bullets manage to devastate the energy shield. Lili unknowingly pushes the others with her as she was mysteriously pushed backwards, luckily letting them avoid the hail of bullets.
"Whoa!" Millie exclaimed.
"Are you guys okay?!" Law asked as he, Aloy and Xiaoyu arrived at the scene.
"Yeah… is this what you call okay?" Lili asked sarcastically. "But don't worry, she's almost out of ammo.
And whether it was a coincidence or not, Rampart ran out of ammo for Shiela just afterwards, finally stopping the oppressive fire power.
"Hmph, that shield lasted longer than I expected." Rampart commented. "Better reload. Them plonkers won't have anywhere to hide."
Before this can happen, Gwen begins to charge at the minigun wielding legend, bringing out her Stand in order to fight.
"Oh, well someone's not willing to wait." Rampart puts down Shiela before reaching behind her. "Well if you're not gonna get a load of Shiela, then I guess this will be the next best thing."
Rampart then takes out a heavy duty shotgun and aims at the goth. Seeing how powerful looking the shotgun was, Gwen managed to duck under as Rampart fired her first shell.
"Whoa!" Gwen yelled as she ducks under the shot.
"An eager one, aren't ya? The closer you are, the easier this shotgun can blow your brains out." Rampart let's out a cheeky grin.
Suddenly, an arrow was seen flying at Rampart. She narrowly dodges it as she sees Aloy notching up another arrow.
"Do what you have to do!" Aloy yelled out before releasing the arrow.
Rampart dodges this arrow and prepares another shotgun blast, but this distraction was enough for Gwen to close the distance. The goth grabs her shoulder and shoves her backwards, though it doesn't seem she used her Stand ability on her.
"Ho! Well, you've got some guts, goth girl, I'll tell you that." Rampart quickly stood up afterwards.
"I wouldn't push my luck, let's see if what I've done would do anything." Gwen stared her down. "If you have to, mow me down. Let's see what can be the best course of action to take in this race."
"Huh?" Rampart was taken aback by this statement. "You want me to mow you down? Is that what you're saying?"
"What's she talking about?! Is she really asking to get shot?!" Owen began to panic at the sight of this.
"Well, it's a bit hard to explain, but technically, yes." Aloy gets another arrow at the ready. "But you have to read in between the lines. Find out why she's doing this."
"In between… the lines?" Priya asked. "What does that even mean?! This doesn't have any logic behind it!"
"Logic? Well I guess this game has certainly shown us that things can transcend beyond logic." Aloy stated. "Ever since this Stand thing was revealed, we should expect logic to crack and be rebuilt from the ground up."
"We know that! But what does that have to do with asking for someone to shoot you?!" Lili asked.
"Hey, you were the one who experienced it first hand." Aloy turned to the heiress. "Just as the shield broke, she managed to use her ability on you."
"What?! What are you-" Lili suddenly realized what the huntress meant.
The heiress looks down at her arm and still sees the glowing outline created by Gwen's Heaven's Door, and remembers the command that was written on her.
"Fly backwards at the speed of 70mph." Lily muttered.
"What was that?" Xiaoyu asked.
"A command. The goth wrote a command on a page she created on me with her Stand ability." Lili stood up in disbelief. "She managed to make me fly back in order to help us avoid the incoming bullets."
"What are you even talking about?!" Owen asked in panic.
Realizing the nature of the situation, Lili began to smile in relief. Knowing the situation will sort itself out, she lightens up, and rests her body because of the damage she's taken.
"Well. You're an interesting one, goth girl." Rampart commented. "Normally, people would shit their pants coming up against Shiela."
"Well, I'm flattered." Gwen rolled her eyes at this. "Now, are you gonna make the choice or not? I don't really care what you pick, but I can assure you, it will definitely emphasize the worth of a Stand ability in this race."
"So you say, huh?" Rampart says as she reloads her minigun. "Let's see if you've got any bite to back up that bark with this Stand thing I keep hearing about."
Rampart aims her minigun at Gwen, but the goth's expression seemed more of like a silent indifference, unfazed by the threat in front of her.
"Say hello to the Spectator Suite for me, will ya?!" Rampart revved up her minigun.
As most of the group watched in horror, Rampart began firing her minigun at Gwen, who wasn't fighting back. The area around her began to get covered in a heavy dust cloud as the bullets uplift the sand as they landed.
Strangely, though, there was no sound of Gwen getting hit. No cries of pain, no sounds of bullets ripping through flesh, just the sounds of the minigun and the bullets hitting the sand.
"Huh?" Rampart stopped the rampant firing as she noticed this oddity.
The group tries to get a good look at what has happened, but both Aloy and Lili know the truth of what happened. As the dust cloud cleared, Gwen was still standing, without a single scratch on her.
"I've written a Safety Lock on you." Gwen pointed at Rampart as she glowed a white aura. "Check your hand."
"Huh?!" Rampart quickly looked at her hand in response.
Surely enough, the engineer's hand was already turned into a book by Gwen's Stand ability, but what shocked Rampart was a simple singular command written in ink.
"Cannot attack Gwen and whoever she chooses!!" This was written on the page.
Stand Name: Heaven's Door
Stand User: Gwen
A humanoid Stand with a generally weak fighting ability. This is compensated by the unique ability of book transmutation, turning parts of living things into pages of a biography that details their life and acquired knowledge. On top of that, pages created by Heaven's Door can be manipulated by the user with a pen, and the user can write specific commands on these pages.
"No way!" Paul exclaimed. "She can write commands into her pages?!"
"It appears she can." Aloy smirked as she lightened up. "Not only can she use her Stand ability to collect valuable information, she also found out that she can write on any pages she creates to command others."
"That's… that's more insane than any of us would've expected!" Owen exclaimed. "To get information and to command others, that's so awesome to have in a race like this!"
Seeing the situation take an unusual turn, Rampart could only chuckle at the absurdity of this.
"Well. Isn't that something?" Rampart chuckled. "You've got me intrigued. This Stand thing is really something to be desired, right?"
"Well, I don't know what you mean, but I guess I can respect someone actually being a good sport." Gwen crossed her arms. "I've had my share of those on the other side of the spectrum, so this is a breath of fresh air."
"Eh, don't worry, it's just part of the game." Rampart shrugged her shoulders. "You were the better man, goth girl. This Stand thing seems to be too much for me and Shiela to handle. Nothing I can do about it now."
"Hmph. Well then. I guess you're off then." Gwen pats her shoulders. "Don't bother trying to shoot me in the back. Just head off to continue this race. I don't think it's a good place to lose here within the first day."
"Wow. Well, isn't that something swell?" Rampart sighed a bit. "Hey, Witt. We're off the hook."
A gunshot fires and hits the sand next to Gwen, startling her a bit. Suddenly, Mirage and Octane come out of a cloaked state, with Mirage using a revolver and Octane currently tending Wattson's wounds.
"Oh, come on. I thought I had that shot lined up!" Mirage exclaimed.
"Whoa!" Aloy exclaimed.
"Kraftwork!" Lili brought out her Stand.
"What?! I thought I had you incapacitated!" Gwen exclaimed.
"Well, apparently, your ability has a range of sorts, and when you moved away from us back there, our bodies went back to normal." Mirage explained as he pointed his revolver at her. "Now hold still."
Gwen looked down at Mirage's legs and noticed that even though they were reverted from their transmutation, a single stray page was seen. On it was something of her handwriting. The same Safety Lock she used on Rampart.
"Hmm. It looks like there's something you failed to notice." Gwen smirked as she eased up. "Come on, fire away."
Mirage fires multiple shots from the revolver before running out of ammo. Unsurprisingly, Gwen doesn't get hit at all, which prompts a confused response from the trickster.
"It seems the Safety Lock I've written on you doesn't get erased when you get out of range." Gwen pointed.
"Just give it up, Witt. She's got us all beat with this Safety Lock crap." Rampart then turned to Gwen. "You were the better man for now, but let's have a rematch when we're more acquainted with this Stand thing."
"Why would I? I don't think we have the same sense of competition." Gwen raised an eyebrow at this.
"Eh, it was worth a shot." Rampart shrugged. "Thanks for sparing us, by the way."
"Whatever. But I'm keeping that Safety Lock on in case we encounter each other again." Gwen pointed out. "If we do, I hope we are on better terms. And your buddies better not shoot me out of nowhere with an arrow next time."
"Ah, don't worry about that. It was just a matter of curiosity. Nothing like some old fashioned field testing." Rampart stated.
"Whatever." Gwen walked to the rest of her group.
Once Octane gets Wattson patched up, the Apex Legends ride away from the scene. Seeing the situation defuse, the group managed to ease a little after that bizarre encounter. But something's still in order for them to manage.
"So." Gwen spoke up.
"So what?" Xiaoyu asked.
"So how do we deal with the Stand Arrow? I'm sure it's gonna be a matter of life and death in this race." Gwen stated.
"I guess… we fight for it?" Paul suggested.
"After what we did now?" Asuka raised an eyebrow. "I'm sure there's a better alternative to this, since over half of us are on the brink of elimination."
"Yeah, definitely." Priya added.
"Hmm…" Aloy managed to think of something.
After thinking of a compromise, Aloy picks up the arrow from the sand and turns to the rest of the group.
"You got something?" Gwen asked.
"I hope you're okay with this, but I'm gonna give the Tekken fighters the Arrow." Aloy stated. "With the injuries you have taken to protect each other, I believe you're gonna need this more than us."
"What?" Priya was confused.
"You're gonna give it to them?" Owen asked.
"Guys. Calm down." Gwen spoke up. "Even if they did attack us, it was out of necessity since Aloy stole the arrows from them. And besides, if it weren't for them, we'd be the ones dealing with the Legends."
"She's right. We can find more arrows down the line." Aloy says before putting down a bit more supplies. "This is for your injuries. I may be racing to win, but I don't mind helping other racers."
Aloy gets up and begins to walk to her horse.
"Come on, you guys. Night's almost here, and we have to ride ahead quickly since we lost a lot of time during that fight." Aloy called out to Gwen's group.
"What? You're talking to us?" Millie asked.
"Of course." Aloy turned to them with a smile. "You're looking for another teammate, right? I guess I also need helping hands in this race, especially with this Stand thing."
"Oh. Wow." Owen smiled. "So what do you guys say? Mission success?"
"Yes. But we have to be careful." Gwen warned her group. "I feel like this won't be the craziest things will get. With this Stand factor at play, we need to really be on our toes if we want to make it to the Top 5. Is that clear?"
"Alright." The rest of her group replied.
And with that, Gwen and her group follow Aloy as they part ways with the Tekken fighters. The sun begins to cross the horizon, marking the end of the first day of this bizarre race. Only time will tell the things that will come in the future.
And that's game. With the day drawing to a close, a whole new factor needs to be taken into consideration in the race, and while a race full of Stand abilities seem cool on the surface, certain people will use this to their advantage, and use their abilities to the best of their ability and smear off the competition. Who will that be? Stay tuned to find out.
