To vi – Thank you so much for your review! I'll have to check out that movie! I'm so glad that you enjoyed the DickKory moments and the Graysonfam moments! While there won't be much of that in this chapter, more of that will be coming afterwards. I hope you still enjoy this chapter though!
To Alec martry – Thank you for your review! And thanks for pointing out that mistake, I'll keep my eye out for that and fix it. I am planning on doing an AU of season 4 as well, but I don't think I'm going to include Superman in it. For what I have planned, he doesn't really have any involvement. Sorry. I hope you enjoy this chapter though!
AN – Chapter title is from the song 'Sharks' by Imagine Dragons. When I first heard that song, my instant thought was 'this is Jason from season 3'. It's so good that I had just had to tie it into this story a little bit. Hope you all like this chapter!
Enjoy!
Jason, in his Red Hood attire, stood at the top of an old office building, looking down into the alley below. The group of heroes, the Titans, didn't even look up to see where the smoke bomb had come from or who had dropped it. He remembered back when he was with the Titans, Dick had told them that the best place to watch from was on a building or something else that was higher than your targets. Not only did it give you a height advantage, and greater visibility, but hardly anybody looks up. You might as well be vincible. It was amusing that the Titans, that the great Dick Grayson had completely forgotten that.
Of course, they did appear to have more important things to worry about at the moment. He wasn't expecting to see Hank, Gar and Kory to start panicking when he dropped the smoke bomb. He didn't know that it was filled with fear toxin, but he should've. After all, when Crane gave him the bomb and told him to drop it on the Titans, he said it contained a surprise, just for the group of heroes. Jason hadn't questioned it at the time. He didn't question a lot of things these days.
Right now, he was questioning this a little. Crane had said that he was making more of the drug he had given Jason. The 'anti-fear toxin', they dubbed it. But when they went earlier tonight, he realized that only some of the gangs were given that particular toxin, while others were spreading fear toxin and infecting people, throwing the whole city into chaos. It was a bit disturbing to see so many people scared out of their minds. Especially Gar. Jason may hold a lot of anger towards the Titans, but not Gar. Or Conner. They didn't do anything to him. They were the only innocent ones. And maybe Kory. She didn't really do anything to him either.
Hank though, he most definitely hurt him. A sick sort of satisfaction rose up inside the former hero at the sight of Hawk on the ground, completely terrified. He didn't know what the older man was seeing, but he hoped it was bad. At least, bad enough so that he might understand a fraction of the fear and uncertainty that Jason had been through with Deathstroke, the false accusations that occurred right after, and everything else that happened during the last few months.

2018TITANS2018
After Dawn, and the other woman Jason had never seen before, came and picked up the other Titans, Jason climbed down from the roof and carefully headed over to a different alley where a duffle bag was stashed. He was done for the night. Time to take off his helmet and marked armour. Sure, he'd still have to be careful as the police were everywhere and were on edge due to the chaos, but he'd attract a lot less attention dressed as a normal citizen than as the Red Hood. He'd still have to keep his stuff hidden for the time being though. In Gotham, at this time of night, walking around with a duffle was asked for trouble, from both police officers and criminals. He'd come back for it in the morning.
Once he's gotten changed out of his armour and had put on a grey sweater and black jacket, he put his stuff back in its hiding place and headed back out into the street. It was quieter now, as the Titans and police were gone. The heroes were probably heading back to Wayne Manor and the cops were mostly likely taking the people dosed with fear toxin who couldn't fit in the ambulance to the hospital. Or maybe they had been summoned to a different part of town. Jason didn't really care about that though. Honestly, it was kind of nice to be walking down the empty streets. Back before Bruce took him in, the streets were his home. It was a dangerous home if you didn't know how it works and how to be safe, but it was his. As nice as living in Wayne Manor was, there were times he missed living in the heart of Gotham. He had started walking around the city a lot during the three months after coming back to Gotham after leaving San Francisco. It was comforting, in a strange way.
This wasn't just a stroll though, not this time. He had a specific destination in mind. The Excellent Gotham Golden Noodle House. A ridiculously long name in Jason's opinion, but who honestly cared? It wasn't liked he owned it or worked there. No, the ones who owned it were Jack and Janet Drake. And one of the people who worked there was their son, Timothy Drake, a teenager that Bruce had been considering making Robin.
Bruce probably though he was being so careful about his search for a new partner, but Jason still had access to the Batcave, even if he wasn't going out as Robin. He went down all the time to continue training so he'd still be in shape for when he was able to go back to fighting crime. He'd also occasionally help out Bruce on a case, or hack into police reports to stay up-to-date with what was going on in the criminal world. The fact that Bruce didn't think Jason would find his file of possible recruitments was both laughable and insulting. His hacking skills may not be up to par with Bruce's, or Dick's, but getting into that folder was child's play. Sometimes, he wondered if Bruce purposely made it easy so he could find out what Bruce was planning without having to actually tell him. Tell him that Jason wasn't wanted anymore, tell him that taking him in and making him Robin was a mistake. Tell him that everything he said that day weeks ago in Crime Alley was a lie.
Jason wanted to confront the man as soon as he saw it, wanted to demand answers, but he didn't. Instead, he decided to try to prove himself to Bruce, to actually get better. He continued his therapy sessions with Leslie and trained as hard as he could. Not that Bruce seemed to notice though. The man was blind to all of his effort, too busy with his company and narrowing down his list of new vigilante partners. Jason was half-expecting Dick to randomly show up one day and dawn his Robin persona again. It quickly became clear that he was would to do more than just get back to fighting form like he was before Deathstroke if he wanted to be Robin once more. He had to be better than the original Robin, he had to surpass Dick Grayson. And since Dick was practically fearless, and fear was what Jason had been struggling with, he went straight to Scarecrow, and the rest is history.

2018TITANS2018
When he reached his destination, he found himself having to hide in the shadows again. The chaos in the alley with the Titans appeared to have migrated over here. At least ten people were running around in terror, under the fear toxin's affects obviously. There were three people who were chasing them, waving handguns, and seeming to enjoy themselves. Jason was pretty sure that they were some of the ones who had gotten the anti-fear toxin. And off to the left of him were two others he somewhat recognized. They must be members of one of the gangs that were working with Crane. He didn't know their names, so he silently nicknamed the one closest to him Chad, as he was young, blonde, and looked like an airheaded football player, and the other one as Bob, simply because he looked old to him and he couldn't think of anything else.
Adding to the chaos that was occurring was the coming arrival of two patrol cars, their lights flashing and sirens blaring. Right behind them, was an ambulance. While the police came right up to the area, the ambulance stopped several feet behind them the officers for safety. The people that were trapped in their fears were still screaming and running around aimlessly, but three people on anti-fear toxin seemed eager to fight the officers and rushed towards them, guns blazing. That wasn't going to end well for them.
Chad and Bob on the other hand, were now making a break for it. Smart move on their part. As much as Jason wanted to stay and get a closer look at Tim Drake, wanted to see how he was dealing with this kind of disorder, wanted to see if he was truly Robin material like Bruce thought he was, he followed after the two gang members. He might not be dressed as Red Hood, but pretty much everyone believed Jason Todd was dead. Him getting arrested would not end well for him. Plus, it could be useful to see what those two criminals were up to. Maybe he'd get some extra information about their gangs, like what their leaders were up to. Despite the gang heads agreeing to work with Crane, there was still a noticeable tension and dislike among them. It could be helpful to find out what their goons were thinking. And once they were in another alley six blocks away from the cops, they let all their thoughts out.
"This is insane!" Chad shouted at his partner.
"I know!" Bob yelled back at him.
For a minute or so, they were both quiet, until Chad asked, "Why on earth did we get involved with Scarecrow?"
"Technically we didn't, our bosses did," Bob answered, "but do you blame them? He's a psycho. Would you want to find yourself on his bad side? Even after that weird sidekick of his killed all the seconds of every gang in the city?"
"Probably not, but this is going to get us more problems than it's worth," Chad responded.
"Don't worry about it. It's not going to last long." Jason's eyebrows and ears perked up at that statement, and he leaned in closer to hear a little better.
"What are you talking about?" Chad asked.
"Come on, you really think our bosses like this situation any more than we do? They're just biding their time," Bob told him.
"To do what?"
"I don't know for sure yet, but they don't like take orders, and they don't like Scarecrow. He's too chaotic, too unpredictable. They'll figure out a way to get him out of the way. Whether that means an arrest, or an unfortunate accident."
"What about Red Hood? Scarecrow seems to have him pretty tightly under control. Don't think he's going to take too kindly to either of those situations."
No, no Jason wouldn't take too kindly to that, even if he was under Crane's control, which he wasn't. He was simply working with Crane to prove Bruce wrong, prove how capable he was, prove that he could beat Dick Grayson along with getting revenge on the Titans who wronged him. As soon as he'd complete that, he'd take down Crane. Sure, he was causing more havoc than Jason had anticipated, and he wasn't particularly enjoying the citizens of Gotham terrified out of their minds, but it wouldn't be for long. However, if the criminal groups are about to cause trouble, then his plans would end up going out the window.
"That's why they'll be getting rid of him too. He might've made a statement by killing their seconds, but he also majorly ticked them off. They're wanting revenge, and will find a way to get it."
His words were apparently enough to assure his partner, because Chad said, "Good," then they both started to head out.
Jason didn't follow them this time. If he was being honest, he hadn't given too much thought about the gangs. He hadn't given too much thought about a lot of things, focusing solely on proving himself to Bruce, beating Dick and getting revenge. At most, he believed that Crane's presence would keep them in check until he took down Crane himself. He'd take them down then as well. He didn't think of the very likely possibility that they'd be coming after him for killing their members. How did he not think of that?
The hero-turned-criminal could feel his blood start pumping harder throughout his body. It felt like gravity had turned him upside down all because of a three-minute conversation. Why didn't he think about the gangs? Crane seemed so sure about what they were doing that they didn't seem to matter. All of Jason's focus was completely on defeating the Titans and then fear doctor. Everything that Crane said, that he suggested, seemed to make complete sense to Jason that he didn't bother that much on thinking through anything.
Until Crane had brought him to the hospital where that woman he hired, Lady Vic, he hadn't even thought Crane was all that dangerous aside from his fear toxin. That day in the hospital, has made him nervous. He had been considering taking care of him sooner rather than later, but if the criminal gangs were about to go against them, he'd be screwed. He wasn't sure if he could take on all of them at the same time, and he'd rather not do it if he didn't have too. He'd have no back up if he tried. He didn't have Batman, he didn't have the Titans, he didn't even have his best friend Molly, as she didn't want anything to do with him now that he was the Red Hood.

Despite her cutting ties with him, Jason suddenly found himself standing outside her building. From his spot across the street, he could see her apartment lights were on, but that was it as the curtains were drawn. He wished he could go see her, talk to her, but she wouldn't want that. And he didn't want to risk dragging her into this mess. So he stood outside, watching the window until the lights went, then for a few hours more before disappearing back into the shadows.
AN – Not much action this chapter, as it's mostly flashbacks and thoughts, but I wanted to show what was going in Jason's head as I'm doing him a little bit differently than he is in the show with the effects of the drug Crane gave him. Plus, I was really curious as to when Bruce started looking for more 'potential recruits' and if Jason found out about it. Hope you guys liked this chapter! See you all next time where not only will we see the fears of Hank, Gar and Kory, but we will also finally meet Tim! See you all then!
