Isaac watched from the bridge of the Norfolk as a group of six uniformed officers left the Iowa and headed towards the command tent. After several minutes, the radio came to life with MacArthur's angry voice coming through.
"What kind of bullshit is this?" MacArthur asked, his anger almost palpable even through the radio.
"Come quietly, MacArthur. Don't make me come down there myself." Isaac replied in monotone.
"I want to know why I'm being accused of insubordination by a person who isn't even enlisted." MacArthur said.
Bismarck heard this and jumped in.
"I don't know who you are or what rank you hold, but Azur Lane, last time I checked, was a military installation put together by the leaders of each participating nation. So, enlisted or not, Kommandant Garner holds the title of Commander of Azur Lane. That title, at least for Germany, gives him the same power as a Fleet Admiral. So you will watch your tone when speaking to a superior officer." Bismarck spat over the radio.
"That is bullshit! He's a mechanic from the Union!" MacArthur yelled.
"No. We see him as the Commander. He IS our Commander. Your rank means nothing to us, since you do not deal with Naval forces, MacArthur." Texas said as she jumped in as well.
"And I, as a Lieutenant Commander of the Union Navy, recognize the rank and authority of Commander Isaac Garner." Perkins chimed in from the Iowa.
"This is complete abuse of power." MacArthur said.
"Sir, that's enough. Come with us or we will have to subdue you." The MP's voices came through the radio.
"Fine. But High Command will hear about this." MacArthur said.
"So be it. Let's see if Strategist will allow that to go through." Isaac said.
The radio went silent as a scuffle ensued on the other end of the radio.
"We have him in custody, sir. What do we do with him?" The MP asked.
"Bring him to the center of the port. We can get this started." Isaac said as he cut the line and turned to the girls.
"Let's make this right." Isaac said as they all nodded.
"Are you okay, love?" Isaac whispered as he passed Eagle. She nodded as she watched him head out the door.
"Good." Isaac said as Bismarck, Texas, and Queen Elizabeth followed him down to the docks.
"Are you okay, Eagle?" Nimi asked
"I am. He didn't hurt me. But it just didn't feel right. It felt foreign to be following orders from someone other than Isaac." Eagle said.
"Did it feel bad?" Friedrich asked.
"It felt... uncomfortable. I guess it was more my stress of being ordered to disobey an order from my Commander." Eagle said.
"You'll be okay. Our Dear Husband is going to make sure it doesn't happen again." Friedrich said as she, Odin and Nimi all hugged Eagle.
"That must feel kind of weird, no?" Heinrich asked.
"What would that be, my child?" Friedrich asked.
"Sharing a husband. I mean, there's four of you and only one of him." Heinrich said.
"He has a loving heart, with plenty to give. He doesn't play favorites. So what is there to feel weird about?" Odin asked.
"I..." Heinrich stopped as she was left speechless.
"Hey. Let's go watch that Union guy get ripped a new one. I'm sure Comrade Garner has plenty to say about someone commandeering HIS carrier." Gangut said as the girls all headed out onto the deck of the Norfolk.
Elizabeth, Bismarck, Perkins and Isaac all stood in front of MacArthur wearing scowls on their faces.
"Care to explain yourself, MacArthur?" Isaac asked.
"I don't have to explain myself to you. Your rank isn't even real. Your orders carry zero weight." MacArthur said.
"Elizabeth, Bismarck. Produce your rigging and prepare to fire on MacArthur." Isaac said in a deadpan tone.
Without a moment of hesitation, Bismarck and Elizabeth both produced their rigging and aimed it directly at MacArthur's chest.
"Commander, this is a bit much, even for such blatant disrespect." Perkins said.
"So, General, do my orders carry no weight? Does my voice have no command?" Isaac asked.
"Of course these girls would follow you. They were a disgrace to their own navies since they couldn't prevent this so called 'siren takeover', so they were thrown to you." MacArthur said, angering Bismarck and Elizabeth.
"Hold your fire, girls." Isaac said.
"So you mean to say that these girls are nothing but failures in your eyes?" Isaac asked.
"If they weren't, we wouldn't be under the threat of subjugation of the Sirens." MacArthur snapped.
"Shikikan, come in please, quickly." Akagi spoke through Isaac's helmet.
"What is it Akagi?" Isaac asked.
"Iowa class on the edge of the radar. It's coming right for us."" Akagi said.
"Hail it, immediately!" Isaac yelled.
"We will continue this later. Take him to the brig until we have time to properly deal with this." Isaac said as the MP's forced MacArthur to walk towards the Iowa.
"Akagi, any luck?" Isaac asked.
"Yes sir..." Akagi spoke in a nervous tone.
"And?" Isaac asked.
"It's Union Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz." Akagi said.
"WHAT?!" Isaac exclaimed.
"It's Fleet Admiral Nimitz." Akagi repeated.
"Admiral?" Perkins asked.
"It's Nimitz... your boss." Isaac said as Perkins froze.
"Sir, I recommend getting this port in top shape on the double to receive him." Perkins said.
"Understood. Get your men squared away on the double." Isaac ordered.
"Yes sir." Perkins said as he ran towards the Iowa.
"Attention everyone in the fleet. Fleet Admiral Nimitz is inbound. Please get this port in top shape before his arrival to our post. Double time girls, let's move!" Isaac ordered as the port began to buzz aggressively with frantic activity.
"Akagi, is he still on the line?" Isaac asked.
"Yes... and he doesn't sound pleased to hear my voice." Akagi said.
"Patch me through." Isaac said.
"With pleasure." Akagi said as a small click was heard.
"This is Admiral Nimitz of Eagle Union, who am I speaking with currently?" Nimitz asked.
"Azur Lane Commander Isaac Garner. It is my pleasure to welcome you to New Guinea." Isaac said.
"I can see a massive fleet surrounding the port capital. I would like to assume that fleet belongs to you?" Nimitz asked.
"Yes. That would be correct." Isaac spoke in a professional tone.
"And I see that the Iowa is there as well?" Nimitz asked.
"That would also be correct." Isaac said.
"Well then, Commander Garner. This is Chester Nimitz requesting access to dock in this port." Nimitz said.
"I would be honored to grant that request. Please, come on in and take a load off." Isaac said.
"I think I will." Nimitz said.
"Oh and one more thing." Nimitz said.
"Yes, Admiral?" Isaac replied.
"Are all of these Sakura ships under your command as well?" Nimitz asked.
"Yes they are." Isaac replied simply.
"I see. It looks like we have much to discuss then." Nimitz said as he cut the line off at his end.
"I don't have a good feeling about this." Isaac whispered to himself as he turned to Bismarck and Elizabeth.
"You two, please get me Odin." Isaac said.
"Of course, Kommandant." Bismarck said as she left for the Norfolk.
"Commoner... I am quite displeased that I was unable to deal with that brutish General." Elizabeth said.
"You'll get your chance. But this is the Admiral of the entire Pacific Fleet of the Union. This guy is the Union equivalent of you." Isaac said.
"Wrong. The only Union brute I see as an equal would be you, Commoner." Elizabeth said.
"Well, this guy holds the official title of Admiral. My Commander's title is merely a formality." Isaac said.
"Posh. The Very fact that I am here will put the official tone behind that title, Union Commander Garner." Elizabeth said, putting extreme emphasis on his title.
"No Commoner this time?" Isaac joked.
"Well somebody has to make you look good." Elizabeth said as she playfully jabbed him in the side.
"Kommandant, you called for me?" Odin asked.
"It's Admiral Nimitz. And If I stand any chance in making a good impression, I need my Vice Commander supporting me." Isaac said.
"You will have the full support of the Fleet, Kommandant. I will see to it." Odin said with a solid salute, one that Isaac returned.
"Alright... well, he ain't going away any time soon, and we aren't getting any younger. So let's get this ball rolling." Isaac said as they walked down the docks towards where the Missouri was being tethered.
"Get me Lieutenant Perkins as well. I want to speak with him as well." Nimitz said as he left the bridge of the Missouri and headed for the docks.
A few minutes later, Nimitz descended the gangway and landed on the cement that made up the port.
"Admiral." Isaac said as he stood with his hands behind his back.
"I'm going to assume you are Commander Garner?" Nimitz asked.
"That would be me. It's a pleasure to meet you." Isaac said.
"What Navy do you serve, Commander?" Nimitz asked immediately.
"I... am not enlisted. I used to be a mechanic back in the Union shipyards. Once the Sirens took over... I was the only one to escape with my life." Isaac said.
"So you are not an actual commander?" Nimitz asked.
"That... is correct." Isaac said.
"I see. Then I guess I must commend you for your impromptu service, Commander Isaac Garner." Nimitz said.
"Sir?" Isaac asked.
"Well my word ain't much, but I say your escape from that mess is enough to bypass the basic training needed to enter the Navy. And your service thus far could be used as an applicable replacement for the officers exam." Nimitz said as he scratched his head.
"Are you joking sir?" Isaac asked.
"Not at all, Commander. I mean, who would I be if I denied Her Majesties finest, as well as the Commander apparent of the Ironblood and Sakura Forces. And if Lieutenant Perkins is here with you, surely the rest of High Command has high hopes for an upstart like yourself. So, with the power vested in me, as the Admiral of the Pacific fleet, I hereby welcome you officially into the upper ranks of Command. And I award you the well earned title, of Admiral of Azur lane. I'm sure Her Majesty has no retorts to that assignment." Nimitz said as he held out his hand for Isaac.
"I have no objections to that assignment." Elizabeth said as Bismarck came up behind Odin.
"And as the figurehead of the Ironblood navy, I Bismarck, also have no objections to the assignment in question." Bismarck said, gesturing behind her to show the entirety of Isaac's fleet standing behind her.
"Then that settles it. Your appointment to Admiral is officiated by myself, and witnessed by Lieutenant Perkins, Battleship Queen Elizabeth, and the entirety of your fleet. Congratulations, Admiral." Nimitz said with a nod.
"I appreciate the official appointment, but I have to ask... why?" Isaac asked.
"Well, It just wouldn't do if the one they sent the Iowa to wasn't a member of the armed forces. I was informed of the decision and changed course shortly after escaping Pearl Harbor myself. And within these past few weeks, Perkins has been having his communications crew working around the clock to fill me in on your achievements. And his greatest concern was the growing realization that if more high ranking officers join your ranks, they may attempt to usurp your command based on you not being an actual Sailor. So I fixed that, here and now." Nimitz said.
"I see." Isaac said as he took Nimitz's hand and shook it.
"Make yourself at home then, Admiral. Welcome to Azur lane." Isaac said as he turned and walked back into the port.
