9th June (cont'd)
I woke up as though coming out of a deep sleep. I was completely disorientated. I had no idea what day or time it was. I rubbed my forehead and tried to sit up; the world was still black. Am I dead? I asked myself as my eyes came into focus. No. I couldn't be.
I heard Harry's voice. He was arguing with someone and when their face came into view I knew it was no one other than the Minister for Magic. "I'm just trying to tell them what happened! If they'd just listen!" Harry's voice became clearer. Fudge looked at Harry disapprovingly. Why? What happened? How did I get here? What was Snape doing here?
"Please minister!" Madam Pomfery came into view, she was holding a large bar of chocolate and handed a large chunk to me, "These children need care. Please leave!" Madam Pomfery mopped the sweat off my forehead, then performed a few spells over my body and nodded to herself and spoke quietly, "How are you feeling? Those ruddy Dementors cause more harm than good."
I gasped. It all came flooding back to me, "Sirius."
"Not you, too…" the school nurse sighed.
"He's innocent I swear! Peter Pettigrew is an animagus! He's alive."
I scanned the room for other familiar faces. Ron was on the bed opposite mine, seeming as disorientated as I felt as he scratched his head. He seemed as though he was in pain; his leg was now back in line again and in a proper cast. Madam Pomfery gave him a potion to drink and he was back over to sleep again. Hermione was on the bed to my right. She was clearly as frustrated as Harry who was to her right. Professor Dumbledore entered through the doors at the other end of the room and made his way towards us. Madam Pomfery was about to explode with all the disruption, "FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE! THIS IS A HOSPITAL WING!" Then she turned to me as calm as can be and poured out a pink coloured liquid for me to drink. The taste of the raspberry was quite enjoyable and filled my body with a warmth I didn't know I was lacking. I swivelled myself out of bed and sat on Hermione's where the arguing was continuing.
"I wish to speak to Harry, Hermione and Kathryn, alone please." Dumbledore announced, "Cornelius, Severus, Poppy- please leave us."
"Headmaster!" Madam Pomfery was flabbergasted, "They need treatment, rest-"
Dumbledore spoke with conviction, "This cannot wait, I insist."
So with a little encouragement, the four of us were alone with our Headmaster. And so it began,
"Headmaster- Black's telling the truth! We saw Pettigrew!"
"-he escaped when Professor Lupin transformed into a werewolf-"
"-he's a rat-"
"-an animagus-"
"-Pettigrew was Scabbers!"
"-he cut off his own finger!"
"-Pettigrew faked his own death-"
Dumbledore held up his hand to silence us, "It is your turn to listen and I beg you not to interrupt me, because there is very little time." He spoke quietly, "there is not a shred of proof to support Black's story, except your word- and the word of three fourteen-year-olds will not convince anybody. A street full of eye-witnesses swore that they saw Black murder Pettigrew. I had given evidence to the Ministry that Sirius had been the Potter's Secret Keeper."
"Professor Lupin can tell you-"
"Professor Lupin is currently deep in the Forbidden Forest, unable to tell anyone anything. By the time he is human again, it will be too late, Sirius will be worse than dead. Might I add, Werewolves are so mistrusted by our kind that his support will count for very little- and the fact that he and Sirius are old friends-"
"But you believe us?" Harry asked.
"Yes, I do." Dumbledore spoke quietly, "But I have no power to make other man see the truth, or to overrule the Minister for Magic…" It was in this one situation where it seemed as though Dumbledore couldn't solve everything for us. Harry looked desperate, he was standing poised as though ready for battle, until Dumbledore spoke again, this time to Hermione, "What we need, is more time."
"But-" Hermione began to argue, but with a swift elbow in the side from me she realised, "OH."
Dumbledore then spoke in very low tones, "Now, pay attention, Sirius is locked in Professor Flitwick's office on the seventh floor, thirteenth window from the right of the West tower. If all goes well, you may be able to save more than one innocent life. Miss Granger, you know the law. You know what is at stake- you- must- not- be- seen." Dumbledore then turned to the door, "I am going to lock you in. It is five minutes to midnight, three turns should do it. Good luck." Dumbledore closed the door and turned the key in the lock.
"Good luck?" Harry repeated, "three turns? What was he talking about? What are we supposed to do?"
Hermione took her time turner out from under her cardigan. She wore it all the time and had continued using the power of going back in time to attend her classes all year and to do her never ending piles of homework. As I had promised at the start of the year, I hadn't told a soul about it, I hadn't even mentioned it. I had considered asking if we could use it to find who left the bottle of Firewhiskey for Oliver or to go back in time to stop me going with him, but I knew deep down that it would get her into more trouble than what it's worth. Besides, I don't think I would forget what happened should time have changed. She wrapped the chain around our necks, Harry asking 101 questions, I stood silently and watched. She turned the hour glass three times, just as she was instructed. The world unexpectedly turned black and I felt a tugging sensation in my stomach as though I was being pulled back in time. Colours and shaped blurred in front of us, I could see Harry yelling but I couldn't hear him. Hermione had her eyes closed. Then all of a sudden, I had solid ground beneath my feet again and the Hospital Wing came back into focus. Ron was no longer in a bed and the clock said 2100. Hermione grabbed mine and Harry's hands as she heard movement in Madam Pomfery's office and dragged us to the deserted Entrance Hall and into a broom cupboard to hide.
"What- how- Hermione, what happened?" Harry looked around the cupboard, knocking over buckets and mops in the process.
"We've gone back in time, Harry." I was the first to speak as Hermione had her ear up to the door, listening for people on the other side, "We've gone back to 2100 this evening just as we were about-"
"Here we come!" Hermione whispered, "We're on our way to Hagrid's, remember?"
"Are you telling me that we are in this cupboard and we're out there, too?" Harry was struggling to get his head around it.
"Yes. I'm sure it is! We're walking slowly because you two are under the invisibility cloak, but-"
"I can hear us." I confirmed, "This is creepy, Hermione. I can hear our invisible selves from HOURS ago and you can't?"
Hermione thought for a second, "Only you can hear it because it's your ability. If you came across another invisibilia I'm sure you could see them, too."
That was too much to think about right now. Harry was tugging my arm, desperate for answers, so Hermione turned a bucket upside down and sat on it, "This is a time turner," she showed it to Harry, "It's been how I've been getting to my lessons all year. McGonagall made me swear I wouldn't tell anyone, then Kathryn caught me out at the start of the year and McGonagall made her swear not to tell anyone either. McGonagall had to ask special permission from the Ministry for me, saying that I was a model student and that I would never use it for anything other than my studies. But the thing is, what does Dumbledore want us to do? Why do we have to go back three hours?"
"It's obvious isn't it?" I thought back as to why we left the castle three hours ago to see Hagrid, "Buckbeak. He was innocent, too. We have to save him and Sirius."
Harry smiled, "And we can use Buckbeak to fly up to Flitwick's window to save Sirius before it's too late!"
Hermione looked terrified, "If we manage to do that without being seen, it'll be a miracle! We don't have the invisibility cloak"
"Oh come on, Hermione." I stared at her and tapped my foot.
"OH." She grabbed my hand and Harry the other, we opened the door and made our way down to Hagrid's hut invisible and virtually undetectable. We walked quickly towards the Forbidden Forest where we could take a vantage point on Hagrid's hut but hopefully not be seen by ourselves in the process.
"Kathryn?" Harry asked, "I've never asked… Can you see Ron and me under the invisibility cloak?"
"No…." I sighed, "I knew where you were earlier based on your footprints in the grass beside me."
I could tell Harry was thinking about something, but Hermione spoke first, "So… you could hear yourself earlier when you were invisible?"
I nodded.
She continued, "So there is a very high chance that your past self can see your present self when invisible?"
"I must admit I haven't given it much thought… I didn't see anything earlier!" I took a step back into the forest.
"But we hadn't gone back in time earlier." Harry answered.
I glanced at the ground, "But had we? None of us saw Buckbeak die! None of us saw it happen."
"Stop messing with our heads. Buckbeak died, Dumbledore told us to save him." Hermione said, "The four of us in Hagrid's hut right now do not have a clue what is about to happen. Let's just keep it that way. We need to sneak over there and stay hidden, then we've to somehow steal Buckbeak and-"
"Untether him and bring him into the Forest?" Harry suggested.
Hermione agreed and reasoned, "We have to wait until the committee have seen Buckbeak or they will just think Hagrid set him free."
"That's not going to give us very much time…" Harry spoke aloud. At that moment, there was a smash- Hagrid's milk jug had just fallen and shattered on the floor. I heard myself comforting Hagrid.
"I'm going to find Scabbers…" Hermione remembered as her past self suddenly let out a loud shriek of surprise.
This is the single strangest thing I think I've ever witnessed.
Harry bounced into action, "Hermione, what if we just break in there now and take Pettigrew?"
Hermione looked terrified once again, "NO! Don't you understand? We're breaking one of the most important wizarding laws! Nobody's supposed to change time. Nobody! You heard Dumbledore, if we're seen-"
"But we'll only been seen by ourselves and Hagrid?"
Hermione explained, "Terrible things happen to wizards who meddle with time, Harry!"
I tried to take a step back from the situation, "Harry… Imagine how you're feeling now, knowing that you're in there. Imagine what you would do if you saw yourself? We'd probably think we've gone mad or someone's taken polyjuice potion or something…"
"Precisely!" Hermione spoke, "Look! Here they come…" Hermione pointed at the Minister for Magic, Dumbledore, Macnair and another guy. We watched ourselves escape through Hagrid's back door and hide behind the pumpkin patch. I watched as Harry and Ron vanished under the invisibility cloak but I could still see Hermione and me. Our other selves started making our way up to the castle. I couldn't help but judge the way I looked. How I could lose a bit of weight and how my hair was a mess and I had no idea I walked like that. Hermione gave me a nudge, signifying that the coast was clear and we needed to go rescue Buckbeak.
Harry vaulted the fence over into the pumpkin patch. Hermione kept an eye on the men inside Hagrid's hut and I made sure our past selves didn't see us, not that I could do much if we did. Harry bowed to and untied Buckbeak who seemed quite content where he was lying. I heard Fudge sentencing Buckbeak indoors. I looked over to past Hermione and me where we stopped because Ron and Scabbers were making too much noise. I honestly couldn't hear them over the sound of my own heartbeat. I heard the men arise from the table in Hagrid's hut. I watched as they made their way to the door. I scrambled over the fence and quickly bowed to Buckbeak. He bowed back. Fantastic. I stuck my hand out to pat him and made him and the rest of us… disappear.
"Where did the beast go?" I heard Fudge's voice.
I was shaking with fear. I could make the sounds we made inaudible to those around us, but if Buckbeak was to move from my grip, we were doomed. Harry and Hermione were barely touching my free hand and we all stood incredibly still. I was waiting for a cue from Hermione to make our move. Dumbledore suggested to Hagrid that they have a cup of tea or a large brandy. They went back inside. I had to grip tightly onto Buckbeak's feathers to stop him from going after Hagrid. Please! Please move! I silently pleaded with the other men. Macnair's blade hit the ground with thud. We retreated as the men busied themselves with drink. Hermione squeezed my hand and I gently tugged Buckbeak towards the forest. Slowly and surely we moved into the darkness. When it was safe, I let go of Buckbeak, Harry and Hermione and fell to my knees on the forest floor. It was surprising how drained I felt. My heart was racing, I was dripping with sweat and I was almost certain we were going to get caught. Harry's clapped his hand on my back and Hermione sat down beside me to formulate the next part of our plan.
"Now what?" Harry spoke, stroking Buckbeak's feathers.
Hermione thought aloud, "We have to hide in here, we need to wait until we've gone back up to the castle again then wait until it's safe to fly Buckbeak to save Sirius… Oh this is going to be difficult… He won't be up there for a couple of hours."
"We'll have to move, closer to the Whomping Willow or we'll not know what's going on."
"Okay…" Hermione was slightly apprehensive, but we all knew it was the right thing to do. Harry took a hold of the rope around Buckbeak's neck and we walked quickly and quietly, constantly looking out around us.
"There's Ron!" Harry spoke suddenly, pointing into the relative darkness.
"AHHHHHHH!" I heard myself screaming as Sirius jumped over us and took a hold of Ron. I shivered at the thought. I was petrified. I remembered the crack of the bone in Ron's leg. I watched us getting walloped by the Whomping Willow and thrown to the ground and when I lit my wand, guiding Crookshanks to paralyse the tree. The next moment we were gone. Literal seconds later, Dumbledore, Fudge, the old guy and Macnair passed close beside us.
"If only Dumbledore had come with us…" Hermione speculated, "I'm surprised they didn't hear your scream, Kathryn."
"You heard that?" I didn't know what I could hear and what others could. I was just so taken by the whole experience as I took a seat against one of the trees.
Harry joined in, "But Fudge and Macnair would have joined and Fudge would probably have told Macnair to kill Sirius there and then and he wouldn't have stood a chance."
"Look" I pointed, "There's Lupin!" Our Professor took a broken branch and used it to poke the knot in the tree to paralyse it before disappearing as well. I felt awful for shouting at him, for not initially trusting him, when all he has ever done is shown me kindness. "Umm, guys, how likely is it that Lupin is in the forest behind us now? Oh wait. That hasn't happened yet…" This time travelling thing was really confusing me.
"If only Lupin took the Invisibility cloak…" Harry sighed, "What if I just ran to get it now?"
"Harry! We must not be seen!" Hermione scolded.
Harry turned to look at me.
"No. No way." I shook my head.
"Please!"
"I'll never make it in time!"
Hermione knew it, "Harry, we're already meddling enough as it is. What happens if Kathryn gets caught? It's not worth it!" By this stage, Snape had already made his way out of the castle and had just stumbled over the cloak, traced back his steps and put it on, then he was gone, "See, Harry!"
Now we had to wait.
Harry, there's something I don't understand…" Hermione spoke, "Why didn't the Dementors get Sirius? I remember them coming, there were so many of them and then I passed out."
"I saw a silvery light that got brighter and brighter. Someone was performing a patronus charm, a real one, a proper one, they drove the Dementors away. Across the lake I could see a body, it received the patronus and patted it…"
"Did you not see who it was?" I asked.
Hermione questioned eagerly, "Was it a teacher?"
"It wasn't a teacher…" Harry sighed to himself, "Maybe I imagined it…. I wasn't thinking straight… I passed out straight after…"
I tried to encourage him, "Who do you think it was?"
"My dad."
Hermione's mouth was gaping open, "But Harry, your dad's-well- dead…"
"I know that…" Harry responded quickly.
I tried thinking outside the box, "Was it a ghost?"
Harry must have been embarrassed, "I don't know, he looked solid, maybe I was seeing things, but from the photos I have, it looked like him."
"Well Harry, I thought I was dying and you were awake long enough to see the person who saved our lives, that's an achievement in itself!" I said laughing, trying to lighten the tone.
"I know it sounds mad…"
I shook my head, "Don't be silly! It could have been and your guess is as good as ours!" Harry went silent for a while, I knew he was thinking about his dad, how his parents grew up here, and how he'd met his dad's three best friends tonight. I imagine he would be feeling a little upset that he has to learn from other people what his parents were like. But from what I've heard they were amazing people who loved him very much. I know he finds comfort in that.
The three of us spent over an hour chatting. Harry told us how he was going to move in with Sirius now that we can clear his name. He was so happy to finally be rid of the Dursleys, I hoped that now he would be properly fed during the holidays and would have a bit more freedom. Sirius seemed to genuinely care about Harry. Hermione suggested that we could all meet up during the holidays and go somewhere, I couldn't promise anything, not with my family. Harry reckoned that him and Ron would figure out a way to break me out and Hermione told me not to worry. I was terrified at the thought of going home and what might happen, not that I would tell them. In my last letter from Granny she told me how mum and dad got a letter from school telling them I had been in a bit of bother with a male student and it was advised that they came to the school to support me. They weren't very amused. I know I'm going to suffer for it. I asked McGonagall not to send that letter for a reason.
"Here we come!" Hermione interrupted the conversation on how muggle sweets were different to wizarding ones as she pointed towards us leaving the Whomping Willow. Little did we know what was about to happen. The clouds had just covered the full moon. The three of us looked on from afar as we began to walk up towards the castle.
"Harry…" Hermione whispered as Harry scrambled to his feet, "we've got to stay put. We mustn't be seen. There's nothing we can do…"
"So we're going to let Pettigrew escape all over again?" Harry spoke quietly, his aggression held back slightly.
Hermione snapped, "How do you expect to find a rat in the dark? We came back to save Sirius. We're not supposed to be doing anything else!"
"All right!"
Then as predicted, the clouds moved and the full moon was in view and for the second time we watched as Lupin transformed.
"We've got to move." Harry told us.
Hermione took her eyes off the tiny figures in the distance, "We mustn't! I keep telling you-"
I pointed behind Hermione, realising what was happening, "No, honestly Hermione. Lupin is running straight at us. MOVE." I grabbed her arm and ran, Harry took Buckbeak and dragged him in the direction of Hagrid's hut which was empty. We threw ourselves in through the door and bolted it shut. Fang started barking loudly at us.
"Shh! Fang! It's us!" Hermione hurried over to the dog and scratched his ears to quieten him. "That really was close…" she spoke to us, still breathing heavily. Buckbeak seemed all too happy to be back in Hagrid's hut again and made himself comfy by the fire, preening his feathers before stretching, ready for a good sleep.
"I think I'd better go outside again," Harry spoke slowly, looking out the window, "I can't see what's going on- we won't know when it's time."
Hermione turned to me, she wasn't convinced. The two of us knew how reckless Harry could be. We both knew he was ready to kill Sirius earlier and now, if given the chance he'd do the same to Peter. "I'll go with you, if you don't mind, Harry?" I asked, standing and doing up the buttons on my cardigan, not really giving him an option, "Make sure you're not seen…" I tried to make it sound as though it was beneficial to Harry if I came. Luckily, he nodded and we were off.
"Just be careful- there's a werewolf out there- and Dementors." Hermione reminded us just as we were out the door. First thing the two of us could hear was the sound of Sirius yelping in the distance, the air was freezing cold and I could see Dementors coming from far and near. Harry reached out and put an arm around my waist- something he had never done before. He knew that he had to touch my skin to become invisible, it was freezing though, so it was somewhat acceptable whilst completely out of character for him, so I did the same and we shared the little body heat we had. As we reached the lake, we hid behind a nearby bush, giving us full view of who would come to save us. Harry squeezed me tight, he was excited to see who it was, still expecting it to be his father. I observed the other side of the lake where Hermione just fainted and Harry was trying to produce his own patronus. Next thing I fainted and past Harry had produced a silvery light from his wand at the other side of the lake. "Come on! Where are you, dad?" Harry whispered beside me. I turned to look at him, he was increasingly agitated as no one came. Then Harry suddenly realised something and let go of me.
"Harry! No!" I bellowed, scarpering after him invisibly as he pulled out his wand.
"EXPECTO PATRONUM!" he yelled.
I couldn't believe my eyes. A blinding, dazzling light appeared from the end of his wand in the form of an animal, a stag. The stag galloped across the black surface of the lake. It lowered its antlers and charged at the Dementors who were retreating into the darkness, unable to withstand the power of the patronus being performed. Within seconds, they were gone. The patronus turned and cantered back towards Harry who stuck out his hand to pet it, but it disappeared.
"Prongs." Harry whispered.
Hooves sounded behind us, "What did you do?!" Hermione sounded furious. "KATHRYN! Show yourself."
If anything I was a little scared of Hermione's wrath, so I was quite content the way I was. "I'll keep an eye out for Snape. Harry will explain everything." I spoke, but Hermione didn't have a clue where to look, it was rather amusing but I was still stunned by what I had just witnessed.
Minutes passed until I alerted the other two of Snape's presence. Hermione looked like she was now less likely to try and murder me, which was always good. Ron was on a stretcher and Snape conjured another four and transferred my lifeless body first, followed by Hermione, Harry and finally Sirius before heading back up to the Castle. It was strange to see myself like that, it was like an out of body experience. But it was comforting in some ways to see how carefully Snape was looking after us, that was until he claims that we're all bewitched and have no idea what we're saying.
I followed Snape from afar and kept an eye on the lifeless bodies from the bottom of the hill as he brought us back up to the school. I then returned to Harry and Hermione to give them the update. I saw that Buckbeak was digging into the ground, probably looking for something to eat in his boredom. "It's nearly time…" Hermione said, looking at her watch, "We've got about forty-five minutes until Dumbledore locks the door to the hospital wing. We've got to rescue Sirius and get back to the ward before anyone realises we're gone." The three of us unanimously decided to slowly make our way back up towards the castle, making sure we weren't seen. Harry and Hermione took the time to count the windows to the right of the West Tower.
Whilst I was taking watch I saw someone emerge from the front door of the castle, "Look!" I pointed for them to see, "It's Macnair!"
"The executioner! He's gone to get the Dementors!"
"This is it." Hermione concluded.
Harry gave Hermione and me a leg up onto Buckbeak's back. There was a surprising amount of room up here and it was relatively comfy. Harry wrapped the rope around Buckbeak like reigns and advised us to hold on tight. I was on the back, holding onto Hermione for dear life as Buckbeak took off into the air at considerable speed. Hermione couldn't help but scream, she was muttering to herself. She mustn't like flying. The power of Buckbeak's wings was astonishing as I looked out across the night sky. I counted windows with Harry and we came to a halt, Harry reached out and gave the glass a tap, grabbing Sirius' attention. His jaw dropped as he leapt from his chair to open the window which appeared to be locked. Hermione was still muttering to herself, trying to keep herself calm it seemed. So I grabbed my wand and spoke the incantation, "Alohomora!" and the window sprang open.
"How? How?" Sirius questioned, staring at the Hippogriff with wide eyes.
"Get on! There's not much time!" Harry gripped Buckbeak tightly as Sirius climbed onto Buckbeak's back behind me. I didn't know how comfortable I felt having his arms wrapped around my waist, but I knew it was only temporary, "Macnair has just gone to get the Dementors," Harry yelled back in our direction as Buckbeak rose into the air again, flying towards the highest tower. He knew we really didn't have much time left at all. As Buckbeak landed on the battlements, the three of us quickly slid off.
"Sirius, you'd better go!" Harry panted, "They'll reach Flitwick's office soon, they'll realise you're gone."
Sirius spoke with a sense of urgency, "What happened to the other boy? Ron?"
"He's okay! Madam Pomfery said she can make him better! Quick- GO!" Harry answered.
But Sirius was still staring down at his Godson, "How can I ever thank-"
"GO!" the three of us yelled. I looked at my watch, we had six minutes to get back to the hospital wing.
Sirius turned Buckbeak around to face the open air, "We'll see each other again. You- You really are your father's son, Harry…" with that they were gone.
And we had to run.
Down the spiralling stone staircase we ran until we heard voices at the bottom, both Harry and Hermione took my hand and we slipped past both Snape and Fudge as they had a discussion about Sirius and the Dementors kiss. We sprinted down the next two staircases, no longer holding onto each other as the corridors were deserted. Until we heard a cackling in the distance- Peeves. We invisibly avoided him. "Two minutes!" Hermione shrieked as she checked her watch.
"What'll happen if we don't get back in time?" Harry queried as we ran the next corridor.
"Let's not think about that right now!" I spoke, completely out of breath, feeling like I could collapse easily into that Hospital bed.
"ONE MINUTE!" Hermione informed in a panic, "I can hear Dumbledore! COME ON!" As we reached the corridor of the Hospital Wing, the three of us crept towards the door, breathing heavily.
"I am going to lock you in. It is five minutes to midnight, three turns should do it. Good luck." Dumbledore spoke as he backed out of the room.
"Good luck?" I heard past Harry's confusion all over again. It was crazy to think that the three of us were on the other side of that door, too.
Dumbledore saw us as we approached the door, "Well?" he said quietly.
"We did it!" Harry spoke breathlessly, "Sirius has gone, on Buckbeak!"
Dumbledore beamed at us, "Well done! I think!" he listened up to the door, "I think you've gone, too. Get inside, I'll lock you in-"
Harry, Hermione and I slipped back into the hospital wing and jumped into bed. It was empty except for Ron who was still lying fast asleep on the bed opposite mine. Nothing had changed. I took a deep breath and wiped the perspiration off my brow. We heard the click of Dumbledore locking the door. Next thing, Madam Pomfery came striding out of her office.
"Did I hear the Headmaster leaving? Am I allowed to look after my patients now?" she was not in the best moods. We knew it was best not to talk to her when she was like this. We were handed four squares of chocolate each and were expected to eat them. After all that running, the last thing I wanted to do was force chocolate into my mouth, but I knew better than to argue. Harry, Hermione and I sat in silence as we heard the roar of angry voices realising that Sirius had escaped. The voices got louder and louder. "Really?" Madam Pomfery snapped, "They'll wake everybody up! What do they think they're doing?"
The voices became clearer and clearer as though they were coming closer to us. "HE DIDN'T DISAPPARATE!" Snape roared (I'm guessing it was in response to Fudge's prior comment), "YOU CAN'T APPARATE OR DISAPARATE INSIDE THIS CASTLE! THIS- HAS- SOMETHING- TO- DO- WITH- POTTER!"
"Severus- be reasonable- Harry has been locked up!" it was Fudge.
BAM. The door flew open and Snape, Dumbledore and Fudge entered. Dumbledore alone looked calm, he seemed as though he was enjoying himself. Fudge was undoubtedly angry and Snape was beside himself.
"OUT WITH IT POTTER!" Snape was seething, "WHAT DID YOU DO?"
"Professor Snape!" Madam Pomfery shrieked, "Control yourself."
Fudge agreed and added, "This door has been locked, we just saw-"
"HE HELPED HIM ESCAPE!" Snape was losing it, "HE DID IT! I KNOW IT!"
"Calm down man!" Fudge said.
Dumbledore spoke next, "Think about what you are saying. This door has been locked since I left the ward ten minutes ago. Madam Pomfery, have these students left their beds?"
"Of course not!" Madam Pomfery spoke, giving Hermione a potion to drink, "I've been with them ever since you left!"
"Well, there you have it, Severus!" Dumbledore concluded, "Unless you're suggesting that these three can be in two places at once?"
Snape stood there. He was boiling with anger. I had never seen him like this before. He took a hold of his robes and stormed out of the room. Dumbledore and Fudge followed, discussing the embarrassment of the ministry at not being able to catch Sirius and that the Dementors would no longer need to be stationed after trying to administer the Kiss on Harry.
On the bed opposite mine I saw Ron twitch and give out a low moan. He sat up and rubbed his head, "What happened? Harry why are we in here? Where's Sirius? Where's Lupin? What's going on?"
The three of us glanced at each other.
"You explain." Harry and I said simultaneously to Hermione.
