Isaac's radio crackled a bit before Kashino's voice came through.
"I'm here, Shikikan. Where am I needed?" Kashino asked.
"Get the Bulins in the water. I'm going to need strong hands to help get the material in here to weld these holes closed. Odin is taking on more water than I would like to see and she's listing dangerously." Isaac said, being sure to keep his breathing steady as to not deplete his onboard oxygen supply too rapidly.
"I shall fit them with bell diving helmets right away, Shikikan." Kashino said as Isaac finally got to where one of the bigger holes in Odin's hull was.
"No wonder she thought she could hold out. They aren't big holes, there's just so damn many." Isaac spoke softly as her felt his feet touch something he was not expecting. Looking down, he found himself staring through his visor at the gray hull of an I-400 class submarine.
"13?" Isaac asked.
"Yup. Here to help, love." 13 said as Isaac felt a pair of wandering hands on his back until a soft click was heard.
"What was that?" Isaac asked.
"Oxygen hose, my dear. If you gotta work underwater, I'll let you use the oxygen on board my vessel." 13 said as Isaac turned to see her with her rigging deployed to allow her to breathe as well.
"So, what more can I do?" 13 asked.
"Help get the Bulins down here. They're going to be weighed down by the steel plates. Musashi is busy tying the Odin to her side, so we can at least start patching up what we can." Isaac said.
13 nodded and went towards the surface.
On the surface, 13 saw the deck of the Kashino swamped with activity as the supply ship and Bulins made easy work of gathering proper plating to repair the Odin. Even Ben was getting in on hoisting the plating around, placing it into neat piles on her port side to make getting to it easier. 13 couldn't help but chuckle at the sight as she watched Ben stack two steel plates together and hoist them up to his shoulder to carry them, only to be completely overshadowed by his pregnant lover, who squatted down and lifted a pile of twenty steel plates like it was nothing, walking past him and placing the pile down next to the Bulins.
"Ben… could you get the oxygen tanks and riveting equipment from the storage bulkhead below deck?" Kashino asked as she continued to move the large stacks of steel.
"Sure thing. I'll be right back." Ben said as he ran off below deck.
"I-13?" Kashino asked.
"Hey!" 13 said happily.
"What else does Shikikan need?" Kashino asked.
"I'll ask him." 13 said as she dove back down to see Isaac inspecting the smaller holes.
"Kashino is asking what more you could need, we have plenty of material to patch these holes. The Bulins are donning their diving gear." 13 said.
"We can't weld underwater… no way to get that kind of electrical power down here safely." Isaac said.
"You need electricity?" 13 asked.
"Yeah. But there's no way to get a welding rig down here?" Isaac said.
"Well… we have Eldridge…" 13 said in a joking tone.
Isaac fell silent as his mind went back to his time on Niue. Back to when he watched his overeager and extremely hungry destroyer use her bare hands to superheat a can of soup.
"You're not seriously considering that right?" 13 asked cautiously.
"Call Eldridge over here. She might be the perfect candidate for this." Isaac said as 13 radioed the destroyer, albeit reluctantly.
"Eldridge?" 13 called.
"I-13… What did Eldridge do?" Eldridge asked.
"Shikikan needs you over by the Odin." 13 said.
"Okay…" Eldridge said sleepily as 13 watched the vessel's keel approach the growing worksite.
A few minutes later, Eldridge jumped into the water and swam over to where Isaac was finishing up his inspection. Eldridge tugged on Isaac's arm.
"Isaac. Up." Eldridge motioned.
"Hey Eldridge." Isaac said as he picked up the destroyer as 13 brought a bell diving helmet with bubbles poking out from the bottom and placed it on Eldridge's head, allowing her to breathe off the Submarine's air supply.
"What Isaac need?" Eldridge asked.
"You can produce electricity right?" Isaac asked.
Eldridge summoned her rigging and made a show of causing bright sparks to appear on the light blue tendrils of her rigging.
Isaac then noticed a pair of dowsing rods on Eldridge's hip.
"Can you attach one of those rods to your rigging?" Isaac asked.
Eldridge cocked her head out of confusion before Isaac reached out and placed the dowsing rod on the end of one of the tendrils.
"Can you attach it like that?" Isaac asked.
"Isaac weird…" Eldridge said as she managed to do what was requested of her.
"Well… that'll be our welding rig. Let's see if this works." Isaac said with a small chuckle as he turned to 13.
"Get one of the Bulins to bring me a sheet of steel." Isaac requested.
"On it." 13 said as she went to fetch a Bulin.
Several seconds later, a splash was heard as a Bulin entered the water with help from 13 and her rigging. Thanks to the increased size of her hull, her rigging had grown to the size of a Kaiten torpedo, making the act of moving sheets of steel a fairly easy process.
"Where do you need me, Admiral?" The Bulin asked from within her diving helmet.
"Hold the steel against this hole here. I see you have a pair of gloves on, that's good. We're going to try something." Isaac said.
"What are we going to try?" The Bulin asked.
"Eldridge here has unknowingly volunteered to be our welder. We're going to use her rigging's ability to create electricity to heat weld the metal together." Isaac said.
"Is your suit rated for electricity?" The Bulin asked skeptically.
"I guess we'll find out." Isaac said as the Bulin held the sheet in place as Isaac helped Eldridge.
"Alright, when the rod touches the metal, release sparks, okay?" Isaac explained softly, earning him an eager nod from a now wide awake destroyer. With his gloved hands, Isaac guided the rod to where the steel plate was touching the armored hull of the Odin.
"Alright, Eldridge. Let's do it." Isaac said as the spot where the rod touched the steel began to glow a bright white before releasing bubbles upwards. Isaac then took the rod away to see a decent weld mark that was holding the plate to the hull.
"It works…" Isaac spoke softly.
"Eldridge, can you manage to do that for a while?" Isaac asked.
Eldridge nodded softly as she placed herself on Isaac's back and latched on, giving him the ability to easily use her rigging as he saw fit.
"I'll be sure to let you rest when we get Odin upright again." Isaac promised as he looked at the Bulin.
"I'll weld the smaller holes shut. But the bigger holes are going to need to be riveted shut. Can you girls manage that?" Isaac asked.
"It will be done, Admiral. Aside from fighting, this is what we were born to do, we'll fix her up real good." The Bulin said happily.
"Good woman. Let's get it done, we're facing the clock here." Isaac said as he turned back to his welding.
"Let's go, Eldridge." Isaac said as the sparks flowed, allowing him to weld the steel plates to his battle stricken battleship.
Cole and his men waded ashore as quietly as they could. He could still hear the voice of a Dutch woman chatting away, most of her quips ending with several people laughing at her comments.
"There's several people." Cole whispered as he leveled his rifle through the fog.
"I can see a campfire." Brooklyn whispered as she pointed to a dull orange light poking through the fog.
"Let's get closer." Cole whispered as he turned to his squads behind him, motioning them to bunch up.
"We aren't alone here… but we don't seem to have been discovered." Cole said as Lucia walked over to him.
With a sigh, she looked at Cole.
"If it is who I think it is, They're friendly." Lucia said as she listened closely to the voice of the Dutch woman who was still talking.
"You have a clue?" Cole asked.
"Her name is Natalie. She should be with the men you are looking for." Lucia spoke before backing off a bit.
"Well… we're in Germany. How common can a Dutch woman be?" Cole said as he motioned them to move forward towards the campfire.
"Dutchess… there's somebody here." A new voice spoke. Cole froze in his tracks and leveled his rifle at the campsite.
"Who goes there?" One of the men spoke sternly.
"Depends. Who are you?" Cole asked as the fog between them blew away with a gust of wind, allowing slightly better visibility.
Cole noticed the green uniform of the Union Army.
"You're Army." Cole said as he lowered his weapon.
"As are you…" The man said as he lowered his handgun.
"Corporal, is there a problem?" A large woman asked.
"We have visitors. Looks to be a Union Soldier and a bunch of Union sailors." The Corporal said.
"Who is she?" Brooklyn asked as she pointed to a cloaked figure sitting by the fire.
"We don't even know who you are." The Large woman retorted.
"I am Brooklyn, Kansen of the USS Brooklyn. These men are under my protection. Now, who is she?" Brooklyn asked.
The figure turned to her. In a flash, Brooklyn's rigging was drawn and all fifteen of her guns were now trained on the cloaked figure.
"Brook?" Cole asked.
"Back away slowly… they can't be trusted. That cloaked woman… it's a Siren."
