Chapter 4

Kimura POV

I stood in my barracks looking out the window at the clouds moving across the sky. The bright oranges and yellows as the sun started to rise mixed perfectly together. I slowly turned around and glanced around my room which has been my home for the past 100 years. I saw my dual zanpakutos leaning against the wall next to my prepared bag.

I started to walk towards my dresser, looking into the mirror to pull my bright red hair back into its usually ponytail for the day, my hazel eyes stared back at me, inspecting myself. Feeling reitsu approach my room I glanced behind towards my closed door before I heard the two knocks.

"Enter." I said as I continued to glance behind me. I watched as the door slid open to reveal a messenger holding a large box.

"Lady Kimura, this package arrived for you from the Soul Society for your departure."

"Thank you, you may leave it." I watched as he placed the box inside the door and quickly slid it closed. I turned and walked towards the box, noticing Aunt Nanao's handwriting on the envelope. 'OH, what has she sent me…' I opened the envelope to read what was written:

Kimura,

I am looking forward to seeing you again. I know your father is most definitely looking forward to your arrival, he keeps mentioning a party and needing more sake. Per your request *demand* he has found you a seat in Squad 10 as their 3rd seat. You will be reporting to Captain Toshiro Hitsugaya and Lieutenant Rangiku. I took the liberty of sending you the approved Soul Reaper uniform for the 13 Court Guard.

Please and I reinforce Please don't make too many adjustments.

I finished reading the letter and opened the box revealing the very uniform aunt Nanao mentioned. I felt myself make a grimace.

"Clearly, she knows me well enough that I am not wearing it the way it is currently presented. I don't understand how they move with this much cloth." The air around me shifted I looked towards the wall of my room where my zanpakutos rested. The shimmering subsided revealing their manifestations. A red dragon with flaming wings and a dark Pegasus whose wings appeared to be made of stars from the night sky. I watched as my dragon, Shenron stepped forward looking at the box and saw make a smirk before he turned his attention to Tianma.

"I think that I can make quick work of this in just one puff, what do you say Tianma?" Shenron looked back at me as I laughed at this comment.

"Shenron, why must you always encourage Lady Kimura's bad ideas. I don't understand why you won't wear the uniform as presented? It would show a sign of respect to the 13-court guard milady."

I sighed as I watched Tianma walk towards me, as where her hooves step seemed to leave specs of stars on the ground.

"I understand your side Tianma, and I do agree…"

"WHAT!?" Shenron shouted, interrupting me, as smoked started to fill the room.

"Was that necessary Shenron, rein that in before I douse you with water…" Tianma coughed as she glared at him.

"As I was saying…" I coughed waving away some of the smoke from Shenron. "You know I like to wear my uniforms. I will only make adjusts on the sides, so that I can function. Watch…" They both watched me as I pulled the uniform out and found a pair of scissors. I cut straight slips along the inside and outside of the legs so that it would hang just down the middle of my body. I moved towards the sleeves and evenly cut them both off.

"There…. With my usually outfit the legs will barely be noticed, they will only see my arms and arm sleeves." I glanced at my zanpakutos with a smile on my face. Sheron nodded his approval and Tianma just sighed and dropped her head. "I supposed we should be going you two. Don't want to keep everyone waiting…" I slipped my adjusted shihakusho over my black sleeveless undershirt and black stretch pants. Once I had that on, I grabbed my back guard and sheaths of my zanpakutos the were tied with a sash which went over my Shihakusho and tied the front together, rather than use the obi.

Taking one last look in the mirror I grabbed my bag by my door, swung it over my shoulder and walked out of my barracks at the Royal court Guard for the last time.

"Time to go home."

Toshiro POV

I stood in my bedroom staring out of my window which opened to the center of squad tens barracks. The center was a green garden with a rock formation and small waterfall. I slipped on my white captains haori before turning and walking towards Hyorinmaru who was leaning against the wall next to my futon. I grabbed his sheath and slipped chain over my head so he could rest against my back.

Many things had changed for me over the last ten years, I threw myself into my duty every day, and my solace was in my quiet home with Hyorinmaru. I wrapped my greenish scarf around my neck and proceeded towards the door that led out to the back porch of my home.

I walked out into the crisp air closing my eyes and letting it wash over me. I opened my eyes feeling Rangiku making her way over to me. Masking my face into its usual irritated state as she came to a stop in front of me.

"Captain! Good morning! Are you ready to make our way over to the Head Captains office?" Rangiku asked in her overly cheerful way.

'How is she such a morning person, when I know she was drinking with the head captain last night?' I thought to myself. Without responding I turned and started making my way to the open garden area.

"Let's go." I say as a flash stepped towards the Head captains' offices. I felt that Rangiku was right behind me, and as we arrived, I stopped to take a few normal steps. I noticed that we were not the first to arrive, but certainly not the last.

Captains Sui-Feng, Kotetsu, Hirako, and Kuchiki were already there with their respecting lieutenants. I glanced at Momo Hinamori, Captain Hirako's lieutenant briefly. We had not spoken out of a professionally capacity in many years.

I turned my glance away and Rangiku arrived behind me. I felt the remaining captains arrive. We all looked up as Head Captain Kyoraku appeared in his doorway, wearing his usual hat and flowered haori over his captains one.

"Good, everyone is here. Please come inside and we can begin the meeting." He said as he turned walking back inside. I noticed his lieutenant, Nanao Ise, standing to his right and she started to follow behind him.

We all lined up in our usually spots with out lieutenants standing behind us. I watched as the head captain sat in his chair at the head of our formations, he had his eyes closed, while we waited for him to commence the meeting.

"Thank you all for coming today. I called this meeting so that we would all be together when I made this announcement. There are a few remaining members here that will know some history behind the soul reaper that will be arriving momentarily, the rest will get the cliff notes version."

I watched as some of the captains turned to glance at each other. While Shunsui took a moment before continuing to speak. "My daughter Kimura Kyoraku is returning to the Seireitei and will be joining the 13 Court Guard Squad as squad ten's 3rd seat."

I could tell immediately who the captains were that knew the information hat had been kept private until this matter had come up. Before anyone could utter any question the doors to the room opened and a figure started to walk in.

I watched as the figure came closer and as they did, I noticed it was a woman with long bright red hair and a tan complexion. She looked like she was wearing the normal squad uniform but on closer inspection I saw that she had cut it, so it revealed her pants and sleeveless undershirt.

I gasped inwardly upon noticing the dual zanpakutos that were strapped to her back with the hilts facing down. 'She has dual zanpakutos! I had only ever heard that Shunsui and Jushiro Ukitake could wield dual zanpakutos.' I continued to inspect her as she walked between the two rows of captains.

I felt Hyorinmaru stir in the back of my head. "Fire… she wields fire and the heavens." At his words I brought my eyebrows together trying to understand what he meant by 'and the heavens'. Something about this woman pulled at me, I could not help myself but to be drawn to her. The cold barrier I had built around myself over the years almost felt as if it was starting to form cracks. I steeled myself and watched as she knelt on one knee before the head captain.

Kimura POV

I felt the eyes of everyone in the room on me. I knelt in front of my father and glanced up seeing the smirk that was on his face at my entrance.

"Always know how to make an entrance don't you Kimura? Couldn't wait to be summoned in?" Head Captain Shunsui asked me. I lifted my head to show him my full smile.

"You know I am not a patient person sir; I wonder where I inherited that trait?" I asked and heard some snickering from behind me at my question.

"I wonder indeed, definitely was not from me… perhaps Nanao?" my father asked me, and I could feel the heat and death emanating from aunt Nanao who was standing behind my father. I could see from the nervous look on his face that he knew he was in deep from that comment.

"Anyway…. Stand and face the captains of the 13-court guard Kimura." I stood and turned to face them all with their lieutenants. I knew they were inspecting me, and trying to figure out the type of soul reaper that I am. I turned my gaze towards the eyes that were pulling at me, bright aquamarine eyes stared at me, and I gasped quietly. Something about those eyes made it so I couldn't look away.

"Captains and Lieutenants, I introduce my daughter Kimura Kyoraku. Former member of the Royal Court guard, and newest member of Squad ten as their 3rd seat." As my father finished speaking, I bowed respectfully to all the captains and lieutenants. "Thank you all for being here, this meeting is now concluded."

I looked up and some captains started to move towards me, but some held back. I looked over to the eyes and captivated me and found them still watching me, I would have continued to gaze him if some very large and voluptuous breast came into my view. I looked up at my old friend Rangiku, as she was so much taller than my 5-foot 3 self.

"Hello old friend. Miss me?" I asked as I smirked at her, before I had a chance to blink, she grabbed me and pulled me into the tightest hug that actually started to cut off my air supply. I started smacking her arms as she spun me around in a circle.

"Kimura! I have missed you so much I am so excited that you are going to be a part of my squad with Captain Toshiro." Rangiku squealed. I started to feel like I was about to pass out from lack of air when I heard a voice come from behind her.

"Rangiku, how many times do I have to tell you it is Captain Hitsugaya and let her go before you kill her from lack of air god damn it!" The irritated voice shouted at her while she finally started to release me while laughing and saying 'oh'.

I quickly started to gasp for air and placed my hands on me knees. I looked up at Rangiku who looked slightly embarrassed, and I started to chuckle at my good friend. Turning to look towards the voice that saved me, I saw that it was Mr. aquamarine eyes himself.

"Ah Captain! Perfect timing as always. Please formally meet Kimura. Kimura, our squad ten captain Toshiro Hitsugaya." Rangiku beamed as she spoke. I continued to look at my new captain and bowed to him.

"It is an honor Captain Hitsugaya and thank you for allowing my appointment to your 3rd seat." I stood straight and saw that he was still staring at me. I heard him hmmm in response to my greeting before he started to turn and walk away, but not before he stopped and glanced back at me over his left shoulder and smiled.
