Natsu's P.O.V
"Fire dragon's fist" I said as I punched the last dark guild member and tied them all up.
"All done" I said to Happy as we hi-fived each other.
After turning in the dark guild members to the Rune Knights and receiving the reward, we started walking back to the guild.
"Are you sure you don't want to take the train Natsu? It's going to be night by the time we arrive at the guild" Happy said as he floated next to me
"No way am I taking a train, I already took one to reach this town in the morning. There's no way I can handle two train rides in a day" I said waving my hand. Just thinking about it made me want to puke.
"Ne Natsu, are you sure you want me as your partner for the S-class exam?" He said and I looked at him as if he was an idiot.
"Are you kidding me Happy? You're the best partner anyone could ask for. There's no way I'm giving up on you" I said and patted his head to which he purred before lowering himself.
"Are you sure you don't want to ask Luce? I'm sure she would looooove to be your partner" he said as he giggled to himself.
I stopped walking, I would love for Lucy to be my partner but I'm sure she's going to be one of the candidates for the S-class exam. She has proved herself and I'm very proud of her.
I looked at happy and gave him my signature grin "I'm sure she's going to be one of the candidates for the exam Happy, don't worry, you're still going to be my partner" I said as I patted his head.
"Ne Natsu, when do you plan on confessing to Luce?" Happy asked as he flew around my head.
I looked towards Happy and then up at the sky. I have been in love with Lucy for a long time now. I was drawn towards her at first sight. I always had this urge to be around her. Her scent was unlike any others, it always had this calming effect, especially when she held my hand or touched me in any way possible.
I always wanted to be around her, hold her and keep her close, which is why I formed a team with her and always broke into her home. As time passed by, I got to know just how brave and strong she is, how kind and selfless she is, how dedicated and loyal she is. She made me want to become much stronger for her, made me want to protect her, she lit my soul on fire. I never really gave much thought to the feelings I felt for her as I could always hold her all I want and be with her at all times, but when I saw future Lucy die in front of me, something in me snapped. I felt heartbroken, I felt powerless but most of all, I got to know that I could no longer survive without her. It made me realize just how much I loved her, that she was my mate.
I had nightmares for the first few weeks after I saw future Lucy die. I couldn't hold her; I couldn't protect her and just watch helplessly as she faded into nothingness. Happy was the one who would always wake me up from the nightmares and hold me as I tried falling asleep, so he knew just how much I loved her. He even said that she was the best mother he could ask for. Like me, Happy had also fallen in love with her, he loved her like a son would love a mother, just like he loved me as a father.
I continued walking with my hands behind my head. I sighed before looking at Happy.
"I'll confess to her after the S-class exam is over. I will be an S-class mage by then and I'm pretty sure she'll be very proud of me." I said as I continued walking. "Aye Sir" I heard Happy say.
"What if Luce becomes our opponent Natsu? Do you think you can fight her?" Happy asked after some time.
"I hope it doesn't come to that, but if we have to face each other, then I'm going to give it my all Happy. I'm pretty sure Luce wouldn't be happy if it's any other way" I said.
"Aren't you afraid of rejection, Natsu?" Happy asked.
I laughed at that. Sure, I was scared of rejection at first, but I started observing the way she would look at me, the way she would react to my touches, the cute blush that adorned her cute face. She didn't look at the other guys the same way she looked at me, she didn't react to the touches of other guys the same way she reacted to my touches. I could hear the way her heart would beat fast in her chest every time I intruded her personal space. But most of all, due to my sensitive hearing, I had heard her confessing to Levy that she loved me. That day I was ecstatic, I was so happy that I accidentally had set the bar on fire.
"No Happy, if everything I observed and heard are true, then I'm pretty sure Luce loves me just as much as I love her" I said and continued to walk.
We walked and walked (Or fly in Happy's case) until it was already dark by the time we got to the guild.
"Yo, I'm back" I shouted as I walked in and went towards the bar.
"Welcome back" Mira and the other members in the guild greeted back.
I noticed that Lucy wasn't there. So, she must have either been on a request or back home.
"Where's Luce?" I asked Mira as I sat on the stool.
"She's out on a mission, she said she would be back by 9 P.M though" Mira said and looked towards the clock to see that it was 7:45 P.M
"I'll wait here for her" I said to Mira as she nodded and continued to serve the members.
"Carla, I bought back the best fish from Zinnia" Happy shouted as he flew towards Wendy and Carla, that were seated on the table beside the window.
I ordered for hot chicken wings and a glass of fire whiskey as I waited for Lucy to come back.
I ate, fought, had fun with other guild members while waiting for Lucy, but she wasn't back yet.
I looked at the time to see that it was already 10:30 P.M and most of the members had gone home and the few that were too drunk were passed out in random places inside the guild.
Why wasn't Lucy back yet? Was she alright? Was the train delayed? Was she injured or in danger?
The last thought was enough to make my blood run cold. I looked towards the bar to see if Mira was still here, so that I could get some information about Lucy's mission. She wasn't at the bar, I looked around and saw Mira on the 2nd floor, cleaning the table. I sprinted towards the stairs when I heard Happy call my name.
"Where are you going Natsu? I thought we were waiting for Lucy" said Happy
"Lucy was supposed to be back by 9 P.M. Happy, It's already 10:30 P.M and she still isn't back. Mira is on the 2nd floor, maybe she can provide me some details" I said and was about to sprint upstairs, when Happy stopped me.
"I'll go get Mira down" he said as he flew up and came back down in a matter of few seconds.
Happy came back down with Mira and slowly let go of her so that she could stand straight. Mira looked startled, with the cleaning cloth and spray bottle still held in her hand.
"What the hell Happy! Why did you do that" Mira scolded Happy.
"Mira, do you know where Lucy went? What was the job about? You told she would be back by 9 P.M, so why isn't she back yet?" I asked Mira, hoping she had information on Lucy's whereabouts.
"Calm down Natsu" Mira said as she walked behind the bar and opened a huge notebook. She looked through it before turning it towards me.
"Here" she said as she pointed towards Lucy's name. "She went on a Mission to help the town of Hemlock cook for 300 people. Maybe the cooking took time and she decided to stay there because it got late?" Mira said.
"I hope that's the case, but what if she's in danger" I said and Mira smiled.
"It's just a cooking job Natsu, I'm sure she's safe" Mira said and I relaxed a little.
"I guess you're right, then we'll head back Mira, see you" I said as I waved and headed towards the door. "Bye Mira" Happy said as he started to follow me.
"Bye Natsu, Happy" Mira said.
Once out the door, I looked at Happy and said "Let's go sleep at Lucy's apartment. We'll know once she's back" I said and he nodded.
And so, we started walking to Lucy's place, hands behind my head and Happy following me close behind.

Lucy's P.O.V
After riding the train for 45 minutes, I finally arrived at the town of Hemlock. I went to the town's head's home to collect information about the job. After collecting information, I headed towards the town's centre, where many people were gathered. They already had started cleaning the meat and vegetables that were later going to be used for cooking.
I saw a lady dressed in red dress giving out order, so I approached her and let her know that I was here to help them cook as per the request they had posted to our guild. Once I received her instructions, I called out Virgo, Cancer and Loke to help me with the cooking.
It took about 4 hours for all the dishes to be done. The town's people were grateful for the help they received and insisted on giving some of the dishes to me take it home.
I knew Natsu would like the fire chicken wings that we prepared here and Happy would like the fish fry. So I just took those two dishes, 3 servings each and headed home after receiving the reward.
I boarded the train to Magnolia, which took around 50 minutes to arrive this time. It was already dark outside. I looked at the time in the train station to see that it was 9:45 P.M. I was exhausted even though all I did today was cook. Cooking plus keeping 3 gates open exhausted me. Fighting bandits would have been better.
As I slowly walked towards the guild, I got this strange feeling that someone was following me. I turned around but I saw no one. Thinking that I was just imagining stuff, I started to walk towards the guild.
Just as I was about to turn the corner, I felt a stinging pain on the back of my head and turned around in caution but before I could do so, something was pressed against my mouth and nose, making me lose my strength before everything went black.
