Have you wondered about that weird fake Bluey that Bluey occasionally sees? No? Well then this chapter isn't for you unfortunately…Quick warning, this chapter contains a very brief mature conversation, if you find this unsuitable for teenaged characters please skip the section mentioning Mackenzie. (It will be underlined)
Bluey continued her journey to escape the seemingly endless ocean of sand. Her fur was dirty, covered in sweat, sand, and even blood, some hers, some not hers. She was continuing to walk while chewing on a greater stick-nest rat. While she would normally be against this sort of thing, she had been in the desert for at least an entire week, and she was determined to make it back home no matter what it took, even if that meant resorting to things that she found disgusting. Due to the fact that Australian mammals do not have rabies, Bluey could eat many of her prey without worry of what would essentially be a zombie virus. Deep down however, Bluey was hating every second of the day when she had to end the life of another animal just so that she could survive in the hot environment. So why did it seem that was she able to eat them as leisurely as if they were a bag of chips? If she could show you her mental state, you'd find an odd, almost purple-colored twin of hers that she named Midnight Bluey, or just Midnight for short.
Years prior, Bluey encountered Midnight in a very strange dream. After the dream Bluey had not seen Midnight for years until very recently. Now whenever Bluey was near exhaustion, or at times when she was sleeping, Midnight would appear before her. "Why are you making me do these horrible things?" Bluey asked. "What horrible things did I make you do?" Midnight asked in return. Bluey sighed "These animals, I don't like killing them" Midnight shrugged "I didn't make you kill them, you got hungry and did it yourself" Midnight responded. Bluey groaned "Doesn't it bother you?" Bluey asked. Midnight shook her head "No, because it keeps you alive and safe" Bluey tilted her head "Why are you even here? What did you mean by I did it myself?" Midnight smiled at her "You make it sound like I possessed you and forced you to kill those animals, but if I did that, then I wouldn't be you" Bluey shrugged "But, you're not me" Midnight nodded "Yes I am, that's why I look like you as a child, just darker in color" Bluey scratched her neck "Then shouldn't you behave like I did when I was a child?" Midnight shook her head "No, I only reflect you in physical appearance, mentally, we are the same" Bluey simply nodded, still being confused by whatever Midnight was.
While Bluey continued to walk, her nose had picked up the scent of another small animal. "Oh no…" Bluey thought as Midnight had an enthusiastic grin on her face "Another opportunity for food!" Bluey looked around but didn't see any nearby animals "I don't like to, it doesn't feel like the right thing" Midnight had rolled her eyes "It's not the wrong thing when you do it because you need to do it to survive Bluey" Bluey began to walk around and search for the animal that she was smelling "That still doesn't mean I want to though, and you know it" Midnight smiled "Yeah, yeah, just find it and eat!" Bluey had sniffed around until she saw a small rabbit "A bunny?" Bluey thought. "Ooh a bunny, this should taste interesting" Midnight responded as Bluey slowly and quietly approached it. The rabbit hopped around until it joined with a group of rabbits. "I think that maybe I-" Bluey's stomach rumbled. "For crying out loud Bluey you are a dog! You are a natural predator! Rabbits are natural prey" Bluey shook her head "But they're cute and innocent" Midnight groaned "If youre so against it then why do you eat steak or chicken when mum and dad buy it?" Bluey sighed "Because I'm not the one hurting them!" The rabbit started to walk away as they explored the desert. Midnight grew impatient with Bluey "You know what? If you won't do it, I'll help you" Bluey tilted her head as Midnight brought her fingers together. Bluey's eyes widened "No, don't!" midnight snapped her fingers. Almost as if she forced it to happen, Bluey's stomach rumbled louder than before "N-no" Bluey uttered as the smell of the rabbit's intensified. Bluey's pupils retracted, her mouth began to water at the sight of the rabbits, she then dropped down to all fours "Why? They're just rabbits" Bluey questioned. "They're just food, and it's so you can live, also because something about this feels….right" Bluey charged at the rabbits as if she was a mad bull. The screams of the rabbits would echo into the desert sky, while they would try to escape, the hungry Bluey would snap the neck of one, drop it since it was incapacitated, then snap the neck of another in quick succession, once she had the entire group she would then use her fangs to rip into their bodies and feast on their insides, getting covered in more blood.
Bluey realized what she had done, then she quickly hid the rabbit remains with sand and began to run away. She didn't want to think about food or the various animals she had managed to kill, at this point she had begun to wish that she wasn't a dog or at least any animal that could very easily eat meat. "Hey" Midnight said, Bluey just remained silent "Stop running" Midnight told her, only to be repeatedly ignored "You're putting yourself in danger in all this heat, it won't take long before you get tired and hungry again you know" Bluey stopped running as Midnight had suggested. "So why don't you talk about your friends?" Midnight asked only to be ignored by Bluey again. Midnight had grunted "You're acting like Bingo when you were talking about your favorite things and you made her upset!" Bluey rolled her eyes as she had continued to walk "Or like dad when he said he was the best driver in the world but the other person honked their horn at him" Bluey looked around for any other dogs "There's a cactus with no spines, maybe it has water in it and since there are no spines you don't have to worry about getting stuck" Midnight told her. Bluey looked around until she focused on the cactus, just as midnight had said there were no spines on it. "How do I get to the water?" Bluey wondered. "You'll have to use your teeth…or your claws" Midnight responded. Bluey sighed as she looked at the plant, she moved closer and bit into it, it was softer than she expected, but it was edible and had the water she desperately wanted.
While she was munching on the cactus pad, Midnight would try again "Tell me about your friends, tell me about…Rusty" Bluey exhaled as she decided to engage the fictional heeler in conversation. "Rusty isn't one of my oldest friends, that would probably be Coco, or Snickers, or maybe even Judo. I've known all three of them since I was a baby. I met Rusty when I got a bit older. I remember one specific day when dad took me to the park in my stroller, while he was pushing me on the swing, Rusty and Mackenzie showed up. Then they started to…dance for some reason" Midnight looked at her confused "They…danced?" Bluey giggled "Yeah, no idea why, anyway Rusty has always been a pretty trustworthy friend. I think the only time we really argued was when I was playing early baby with Indy and….Honey" Midnight smiled "Oh yes, Honey…tell me about her" Bluey raised an eyebrow "Why? Aren't you me? Or a part of me or something like that?" Midnight nodded "Yeah…something like that, but it helps better than just wandering this desert and focusing on how boring and dry, and hot it is, doesn't it?" Bluey sighed and nodded
"Well, Honey and I were friends before the incident with Bingo, but then she changed and became very weird. She claims she was scared of me but she was willing to stay with me all by herself, waiting to see if I would attack her. Then after everyone decided to be my friends again, it was like she just…snapped and started to dislike anyone in the class, the only person she would talk to would be Calypso and even then she wasn't really friendly towards her. I tried my best to stay friends with her but she always avoided me, especially after we stopped going to Calypso's school and the last time I saw her she told me to piss off." Midnight raised an eyebrow "So, why did you keep trying to be friends with her?" Bluey thought about it "Because everyone deserves another chance, may sound a bit odd coming from me but my friends gave me another one, it would be hypocritical if I didn't do the same, don't you think so?" Bluey asked. She nodded "I guess you have a fair point"
"Do you ever think about Jean-Luc?" Midnight asked. Bluey nodded "Yeah I've thought about him once or twice these past few years, I wonder what he's been up to or if he even remembers me" Midnight smirked "Do you have a crush on him?" Bluey quickly shook her head "I barely knew anything about him, how could I have a crush?" Midnight laughed "I bet if some people were able to see what you two did, they'd think you had feelings for him, with what you being a small child and all" Bluey raised an eyebrow "That would still be a bit weird…we only played together for what was probably two or three days, and we didn't really understand what each other was saying"
Midnight nodded "Right, so tell me about your new boyfriend then." Bluey blushed lightly "Mackenzie?" Midnight shook her head "No, Jack…Of course I meant Mackenzie!" Bluey giggled nervously at her question "Well, I don't really remember when I started liking him but I do remember it was when I was still seven years old" "So for a whole ten years? You really know how to be patient for what you want, huh?" Midnight had asked. Bluey nodded "Well, you know the old saying, Good things come to those who wait." "What is it you like about him?" Midnight smiled. Bluey shrugged "Well, the way he has one of his ears down is pretty cute" She sighed "His…ears?" Bluey shook her head "I mean, there are lots of things about him, but I just really find him cute" she blushed again. "I like how his legs and feet are colored the way they are, I like how his tail curls" She smiled. "I like his-" "You think about his dick?" Midnight interrupted her. Bluey's face turned crimson "WHERE DID THAT COME FROM?!" Midnight burst into laughter "Come on Bluey, you're a girl in her late teens, it's completely normal" Bluey became exasperated "I'm not some kind of perverted dog you know!" Midnight nodded "Of course you are, do I need to remind you that this entire conversation is happening inside your own, exhausted mind? Like I said, it's a pretty normal thought anyway" "Anyway!" Bluey tried to take her mind off her own dirty thoughts "I really like how it feels like he's always there for me" Midnight raised her eyebrow "The others were there for you too" Bluey nodded "I know, but it feels different with him, he makes me feel…special, and I just can't put into words how he makes me feel" Midnight nodded "What if he hurts you too? Then what would you do?" Bluey sighed "I don't know, I try not to think about it. I am trying to stay focused on the things that make me feel better, so I know that making out of this desert will be worth it in the end." Bluey sighed "I wonder what Bingo would think if she could see me now…or if she'd even want to see me after what I did" Bluey looked to the ground sadly as she thought about her sister.
Without Midnight asking Bluey continued talking "One thing I really miss is the days when I had fun with Bingo" "You don't have to talk about Bingo" Midnight responded. Bluey looked confused "Why wouldn't I? She's my sister" Midnight sighed "Because she's gone, she was the source of your anger that day and she's why you're in this mess to begin with" she spoke unsympathetically. Bluey frowned "It's not Bingo's fault I'm in this mess, it's my fault. Things would've been okay if I just calmed down, and never pushed Bingo into the way of the traffic. Just like it's my fault that Lucky's dad died." Midnight scoffed "Lucky told you what happened, it was his fault why his dad was driving in the first place. His dad was the one to hit Bingo with his car." Bluey seemed a bit disturbed "If anything, we share the blame, is that good enough for you?" Midnight shook her head "If it causes you pain, it will never be good" Bluey then looked confused "What do you mean?" Midnight sighed "Hasn't it gotten through to you yet? I'm not some kind of imaginary friend…I'm more like, your defense mechanism" Bluey didn't exactly understand "What are you saying?"
Midnight groaned loudly as she rolled her eyes "Let me put it to you like this, I came from your subconscious because you were extremely depressed. You reached a point where you kept blaming yourself for every bad thing that happened to you when it wasn't even your fault at times." Bluey shook her head "But …it was my fault…" Midnight laughed "This is when I came to you in that dream you had after you met the doctor all those years ago." Bluey's eyes widened as she remembered the very strange dream. Midnight smirked at Bluey "Want to know the part that you've been repressing for years? The very urge that you don't want the others to know?" Bluey shook her head quickly "No…that's okay…" Midnight ignored her and continued to speak "The main reason I exist is because you're conflicted, you want to live but I also exist to keep you from-" "THAT'S ENOUGH ALREADY!" Bluey shouted, surprising Midnight. Midnight then sighed "You know, I'm basically you trying to stop yourself from doing things that will get you hurt anymore, I don't control you, you control me. Do you think that I forced you to kill all those animals? I don't even like blood, it's sticky and it stinks, and someone would probably think that you're crazy for having it all over your fur." Bluey held her head as it started to hurt "Then why does this whole thing seem like I'm talking to someone else entirely?" Midnight shrugged "I told you…you're conflicted" Bluey seemed irritated "Why won't you just go away?" Midnight raised an eyebrow "You know, you could just accept the things I'm saying, accept that you will keep getting hurt with the way things are, I'll block out all the pain and you can live without all the tears" Bluey groaned "Even if you are me, that's fine. However I don't need to accept that part of me. Besides that's not living, it's just existing and that sounds like a miserable way to exist. "It does? How so?" Midnight asked. "It just is!" she winced as she gripped her head. "You're making my head hurt so just go away" Midnight sighed "As you wish, but when things get worse, just remember that I'm always here, waiting for you" she vanished from Bluey. Bluey let out a sigh of relief as the 'other' voice in her head had silenced and the pain in her head had went away. "Come on Bluey, you've GOT to make it out of here" she said to herself as she began to look around. After a few more minutes she sighed again "Couldn't I have found some kind of oasis or something? This blood really stinks"
Bluey would continue to wander for hours, as the sun felt like torture "Wonder if mum and dad had to ever go through anything this miserable" she sighed as flies and few other insects were attracted to the smell of sweat and blood that was emanating from her. She would keep swatting them away. Bluey's luck would seemingly become even worse as she would manage to step and trip over something that felt tough, large, and alive. Bluey looked to see what she tripped over to see another snake, one that was now staring at her and hissing loudly. Before her wasn't the taipan that she saw earlier, it was a tigersnake that seemed hungry. Bluey didn't know if it was venomous or not, all she knew was that she needed to get away quickly or she would probably end up being the snake's victim. Bluey began to run away from the legless lizard while it angrily began to chase after her. The tigersnake lunged towards her, fortunately she managed to get out the way in time. The snake was rapidly approaching her, making her more scared since she seemed to be unable to outrun it. Bluey then remembered how her father once told her about a prehistoric quadrupedal dog that could run faster than the modern day bipedal dogs. Doing whatever she had to escape, Bluey began to run on all fours, it was an odd feeling but something about it felt natural. Before she knew it she began to outrun the aggressive snake, all she had to do now was find a place to hide. Bluey began to become exhausted while the snake seemed relentless "Please, let something save me!" Bluey thought. The chase would continue for another five minutes before the snake would get grabbed by a collared sparrowhawk. The bird of prey would try to carry the tigersnake away, but it would drop the snake after several meters. Bluey panicked as she feared the snake would continue to chase her, only to watch it slither far away from her and the bird, the bird would now chase after the snake and both would eventually be out of Bluey's view.
Bluey would let out a sigh of relief then quickly collapse to the sand beneath her. She was panting hard and heavy as the realization hit her, she was in the hot desert, she wasn't at her full strength and had to outrun a snake, running on the sand forced her to expend more energy than she had hoped to. Normally she would be afraid but since she managed to escape certain death, she was somewhat relieved. After catching her breath she would walk a few more feet before her exhaustion would really kick in and cause her to collapse once again. "Come on Bluey…you're going to make it home" her eyes began to water "You need to make it home…it's been days now" she began to sob "Mum…dad…Mackenzie" Bluey managed to drag herself through the hot sand, nearly giving up hope until she saw a road. "This is…a road?" she would muster all her strength to stand and look both ways "I'm not going crazy again am I?" eventually she saw a city in the distance, her tail wagged slowly "I…did it…I can find a way home!" Bluey laughed a little before she fell over for a final time. Bluey would quickly grow quiet as her vision darkened "Home" she uttered as she finally fell asleep. "Hey! Thi…that -irl…news! Sh- thing" a voice said.
Bluey was beginning to wake up once again, she expected to be covered in sand, but she felt cold air on her. "Huh?" Bluey said as she managed to open her eyes, she looked around to see herself in some air conditioned building and some dog holding a newspaper to her side"Where am I?" she asked. The dog lowered the newspaper and gasped seeing Bluey awake "Kid! I'm so glad to see you okay!" Bluey recognized the dog and gave him a light smile "Hi Uncle Rad" she spoke weakly. Rad hugged Bluey and sniffled "You had us all worried sick! You're lucky some people found you by the desert and brought you here!" Bluey coughed "Uncle Rad, you sure you want to hug me? I'm pretty dirty" Rad chuckled "I'm sure Bluey, how are ya feeling?" Bluey soon recognized she was in a hospital bed "Hungry, thirsty, tired" Rad nodded "I'll be back" he excitedly stood up and quickly left the room with a huge smile on his face. Bluey looked outside the window to see that it was now nighttime "I hope I'm not dreaming…not again at least" she said to herself. "If you're dreaming then I wouldn't be real, and fortunately, I am quite real" a voice from behind her said. She turned to see Jean-Luc and gasped in surprise "What are you doing here?" she smiled at him "Mon ami, your friends said that you were kidnapped. Being with the Interpol, I 'appened to receive the case and after a whole nine days, we found you" Bluey's eyes widened "Did you say…..nine days?!" Jean-Luc nodded "You were in the largest desert in all of Australia, and you were found on the side of the road" Bluey was stunned. Rad returned with a tray containing a sandwich and some water.
"Do you know who did this to you?" Rad asked Bluey. Bluey thought about it and remembered that Lila had threw her and left her to suffer, she then shook her head "Sorry Uncle Rad, she wore a mask" Rad scratched his head "I wonder why they targeted you then" Jean-Luc looked at him "They targeted her because she was Lila Maltese, an old friend of Bingo" Rad was surprised to hear about it "Wait, didn't she get caught around my brother's home? I thought she was charged with murder" Jean-Luc nodded "Oui monsieur, she said she killed a doberman and buried his body in the sand somewhere, some of my team is still searching for him or of any evidence." Bluey's jaw dropped, she never expected Lila to confess. "So you refuse to tell them the truth?" Midnight asked "I thought I told you to go away" Bluey responded. Bluey then looked at Rad "But wait, why are you here?" Rad smiled at her "Your parents and Stripe tried coming back home, but their flight got delayed and your dad asked me to be here in case they police had any updates, thankfully Frisky and I received the best news about you a few hours ago" Bluey's tail wagged slowly. "I would love to stay and chat but we need to talk with Lila then I have to head back to France" Rad raised an eyebrow "Are you from there mate?" Jean-Luc shook his head "Non, I am from Canada, the Interpol headquarters is in France" he smiled at the two before leaving the room. Bluey quickly drank the water and scarfed down the sandwich, the food was so delicious that Bluey was brought to tears "Blood taste horrible Uncle Rad" Rad smiled and nodded "You really had it rough huh kiddo?" he looked at the dried blood in her fur. "Once you get discharged, let's get you home, your friends must be worried sick" Bluey looked at him "How did you know about that?" He patted her on the head "Well your mum called while you were away and your friends were your home, they had to tell her everything" Bluey's eyes widened "By everything, you don't mean-" Rad nodded "Yes, they told us you were dating the New Zealander…Mack something" Bluey blushed "Dad wasn't mad about that was he?" Rad shrugged "You'll have to talk to him about that later"
Bluey was given another sandwich and more water before she was finally discharged and allowed to go home with Rad. "Mum and dad, are they angry with me?" she asked while Rad had drove. Rad shook his head "No way, they were so worried and scared, you should've seen Bandit, I think if he got ahold of whoever took you, he would've gone feral on them" Rad laughed at the thought. "You really think so?" Bluey asked him. Rad nodded "You mean the world to both of them, and if anything happened to you, I'm afraid they'd probably die of broken hearts" Bluey smiled at him feeling comforted "i can't wait to shower, all this sweat and blood really makes you grateful that modern dogs like us don't have to survive in the desert" "I can only imagine, but you know what, it's a good thing you're tough!" The words were all too familiar with Bluey but she never got tired of hearing them, for her it meant that she was tough, and that she was a stronger dog for whatever the ordeal was.
Chloe woke up in Bluey's bed, she looked around to see the other girls in sleeping bags on the floor in Bluey's room, however what caught her attention was the sound of a shower going off. "Wonder who that is…" Chloe decided to get up and grab a cup so she could get a cup of water, she would head towards the kitchen and get the water then head to the playroom to see all the boys sleep on the floor. "Then…who was taking a shower?" she whispered to herself before she walked back upstairs, she slowly inched towards the bathroom before the door opened inward and some steam flowed out the bathroom. Chloe didn't know what to think, but she saw a bluey tail poke out from behind the door way, then she would see Bluey, who smiled and waved at her "Hey Chloe" Chloe would begin to tear up "Bluey?" Bluey nodded before Chloe sprinted and hugged Bluey with all her might "BLUEY! I- WE WERE SO WORRIED! She yelled at the top of her lungs. "What's with the- BLUEY!" Winton ran over and hugged Bluey as well. Soon after the other dogs would wake up from the commotions and quickly join Chloe and Winton, causing a large group hug between the dogs "Uh everyone? I can't breathe!" Bluey strained to speak before they broke the hug and began to laugh together. Mackenzie would then walk over to her and hug her close "I'm so glad you're okay" he whispered into her ear, Bluey blushed and embraced his hug "Me too Kenzie" Mackenzie blushed at the nickname but he didnt care, Bluey was safe and that's all that mattered.
Bluey and her friends were now all sitting together in the living room, as Bluey described the hardships she encountered in the desert, how she had to kill smaller animals, how she encountered snakes twice, with the second one nearly killing her, and how she did her best to reach civilization, culminating in her passing out and some strangers finding her, leading to her reunion with Jean-Luc. "I can't believe you were saved by some type of bird at the last second" Winnie said. "Honestly, I don't know if I would've kept going like you did" Jack stated "Probably would have exhausted myself before getting out" he laughed nervously. "By the way, my uncle said that Lila was caught while she was around here, does anyone know what happened?" Bluey asked. "It was a whole mess Bluey! Some of Bingo's old classmates ended up dying, I never would've thought some 15 year olds would get so violent" Bluey looked concerned "Did I know any of them?" Bluey asked. "No" Coco said with a sad look onn her face "But Pom Pom is dead too" Chloe and Snickers also looked depressed upon Coco mentioning this. Bluey sighed "Nobody should have had to die" Bluey said. "That's true, but apparently the rottweiler that died said that they saw you in the van that the doberman was driving, if it wasn't for that, we never would've found out it was Lila" Judo stated. Bluey looked at everyone "I was going to ask in the morning when everyone was awake but…why are all of you in my house?" there was awkward chatter between the group as they realized that it was odd to stay in her home. "Well, you never dismissed the party guest!" Rusty smiled sheepishly. "Yeah, now we can have a party celebrating you coming home safe!" Indy added. "Alright" Bluey smiled "But in the morning, I'm still feeling pretty exhausted from everything". "We don't have to go home do we? I love my family and all but I really enjoy time away from Lulu sometimes!" Jack asked Bluey, worried that she'd make them go home. "No Jack, everyone can spend another night here, just don't cause too much trouble, my uncle will be checking in on me besides it's a bit too dark out to just make you all leave"
Everyone cheered and would eventually stay up and chat amongst themselves. Bluey would walk into the kitchen and grab some juice out the fridge and would soon be joined by Mackenzie. "I need to apologize to you Bluey" Bluey took a sip of the juice and looked at him confused "Apologize? What for?" he sighed and clenched his fist "I couldn't save you. When you needed me the most, I failed to do anything to stop them" Bluey set her juice down and looked Mackenzie in the eyes "Did you do everything you could?" He nodded "Yeah but-" "Were you determined to keep me safe?" She asked. Mackenzie continued to nod "I really was! But then-!" "Shush" she said as she brought her finger to his mouth. "I know what happened" she smiled at him "Everyone tried to save me, and everyone did what they could, now I'm back home safe and sound with you" Mackenzie smiled softly "I'm glad you're with all of us too" Bluey shook her head as she lowered her finger down to his chest "Everyone is nice, but I meant I'm glad to be here with you, Mackenzie" she leaned into his chest "You know how long you kept us waiting? I'm glad you finally decided to hurry up" he teased. Bluey rolled her eyes and smiled as this conversation seemed a bit familiar too her "Mackenzie, you're always in such a hurry" the two laughed together before Bluey finished her juice and began to walk away, she then felt something grab her arm and turned around. Mackenzie held her arm tight and looked her in the eyes "Bluey?" she gave him a light smile "Yes?" Mackenzie moved closer to her "I love you, Bluey Christine Heeler" Bluey felt a warm feeling in her chest as she moved closer to him and the two shared a kiss. It was a scene that would warm the heart of any dog, in this case it definitely warmed Winton's heart, since he was watching the whole thing unfold from the stairs and he would quickly go back downstairs before either of them could notice him. After the two broke away, Bluey gave him a smile and proceed to walk into her room with her tail swaying "See you in the morning" Mackenzie smiled as he walked downstairs "Yeah, see you in the morning"
