Chapter Thirty-Five: His Butler. Taking the Stage, His Friend, Watching the Show
The following morning after tea and breakfast, it was time to depart for London. Frances followed after Ciel with Sebastian following behind them carrying the remainder of Ciel's luggage. They made their way down the stairs of the front entrance. Frances began hugging her friends goodbye starting with Mey-rin as Sebastian spoke while handing the luggage to Finny.
"Still, we're lucky to have such fine weather today. It's the perfect time to enjoy the circus."
"Yes, it is." Frances agreed, turning from Baldroy to look at the lovely pinks, blues, and greys of the sky as the sun began to rise.
"The circuses perform in tents. The weather doesn't matter."
"He's such a grouch when he has to wake up early." Frances muttered quietly to Finny as she wrapped him in a hug.
Finny giggled as he hugged her back. She moved away from them, catching Ciel's glare. Frances smiled brightly. Ciel turned his head away with a sigh. Frances followed behind him.
"Baldo, Finny, Mey-rin," Sebastian called, gaining their attention, "the Young Master, Mistress, and I will be staying in London for a while."
"Be careful, Young Master, Mistress!" Baldroy said, crossing his arms.
"See you soon!" Finny exclaimed.
"Please come back quickly." Mey-rin cried into her handkerchief.
"Ho, ho, ho." Little Man Tanaka said, waving his hands.
Sebastian stepped forward. He opened the carriage door for them. Ciel climbed in first. He paused a moment.
"All of you… (The servants straightened. The Young Master grabbed the rim of his hat as he turned to face them.) Take care of the house while we're gone."
"Yes, my lord!"
"Ho, ho, ho!"
The four of them saluted. The Young Master smirked. He turned to climb into the carriage. Frances nodded firmly at her friends. She climbed into the carriage. Sebastian stared sternly at the servants before following after Frances. He sat beside her while Ciel sat on the other side. Sebastian wrapped his arm around her waist, Frances took his hand as the both of them looked out the window, enjoying the scenery. Ciel signaled the driver who took off down the drive. Ciel took out the letter from his inner cloak pocket, opened the letter up, and began to read it yet again. When he got to the part about the Pied Piper Hamlin, a song came to Frances' mind.
*Song: Come little children~~, (Sebastian turned his gaze to her in surprise.) I'll take thee away~~, into a land of enchant~~ment~~. Come little children~~, the time's~ come~ to play~~, here in my garden~~ of ma~~~~gic~~.**
*I haven't heard that song since the sixteen hundreds.* Sebastian commented.
Frances looked up at him in confusion.
*It was a way to lure children to witches who would use their years to make them younger.* Sebastian explained.
Frances' face transformed to a look of understanding.
*Ah.*
They both looked at the Young Master as he folded up the letter, placed it in the envelope, then placed the envelope into his cloak pocket.
"Where shall we head first?" Sebastian asked.
"Good question." Ciel commented, "But first… We need to drop off our luggage at the Townhouse without those two knowing."
Sebastian and Frances smirked. They both knew that wasn't possible.
After they dropped off their luggage and spoke with Prince Soma and Agni for a little bit and she called Alois to inform him of the letter from Her Majesty thus not being able to make their monthly play date and would make it up to him once she was finished, they found themselves in front of the Headquarters of Scotland Yard.
"Sir Randall will not be pleased and I would rather not have to deal with him." Ciel said, exiting the carriage.
"What would you prefer we do, my lord?" Sebastian asked.
"We need to get to the file room. That should contain the information we need."
"What if I deal with Sir Randall?" Frances asked.
Both of them looked at her.
"No. It is too much of a hassle. Sebastian, find us a way into the file room."
"Yes, my lord."
Frances shook her head as Sebastian disappeared. He came back a moment later.
"There is a window that leads straight to the file room."
"Perfect. Let's go."
"Very well."
Sebastian lifted the both of them up in each of his arms. He raced around and jumped to the window's ledge. Frances carefully opened it for them. He jumped through, gently setting them down.
"Get to copying the files." Ciel ordered.
"Yes, my lord." The both of them answered.
Sebastian and Frances located the files pertaining to their case. They split them in half and began to copy them down. They had gotten through a few files when they received company. The door opened. The person paused abruptly.
"Wh-What are you lot doing in here? Edward Abberline asked.
Frances could feel his utter surprise and shock.
"Will you tell Sir Randall?" Ciel asked without turning around.
"He isn't here! B—"
"In any case," Ciel cut him off, "it's convenient that Lord Randall is absent, isn't it?"
"Please, I'm begging you. If the Commissioner were to find out about this…"
"Then make sure he doesn't."
"And, anyway, this is the third floor! How'd you get in?"
Frances tilted her head.
*He truly cannot see the open window?*
*I suppose not.*
"Well, Sebastian, Frances?"
Sebastian stood up and turned to address the Young Master as Frances continued to copy the files.
"Of the children for whom missing person reports were filed, no bodies have been discovered." Sebastian reported.
"That is the same with my files." Frances said, finishing up copying the last file.
"If you're finished copying the files, we're leaving. We shall borrow the photos as well."
"I can't allow that!"
The Young Master walked towards them. Frances finished with her file and took the attached picture and clip that held it, adding it to her copied file. She and Sebastian grabbed the remaining photos, attaching them to their appropriate files.
"If someone notices, say that I took them." Ciel said.
"That will get me in even more trouble!"
Ciel approached Sebastian who handed him the files. Frances stood up, holding the files securely to her chest. The three of them looked at Edward.
"You are… Underline?"
Frances shook her head. She knew he found the man different and more ditzy than his brother, but still…
"It's Abberline!"
The Young Master motioned Sebastian forward as he looked over the copied files he took from Sebastian.
"Thank you for today. (Sebastian walked towards Abberline.) I appreciate your cooperation."
Sebastian took the man's hand and placed some coins into it. Sebastian pulled away his hand to reveal the coins. Abberline gasped, appalled. He clapped the coins back into a surprised Sebastian's hand.
"I don't need this! I just want this case solved as soon as possible, no matter the method!"
Frances smiled. The Young Master walked forward with Frances following behind him.
"No matter the method?" Ciel asked, a smile on his face, passing them by, "That flexibility shows promise."
Frances smiled wider as she could feel Ciel comparing him to his brother after all. As the Young Master and Frances walked out the room, Sebastian handed a mop to Abberline to get him to release his hand. Sebastian followed after them. They heard the gasp of surprise from behind them. Abberline turned quickly towards them.
"W-Wait!"
"Move up the ladder quickly, Abberline."
"Thank you, Abberline."
Sebastian bowed with a hand on his chest. He closed the door behind them. They made their way out of the Headquarters, Sebastian and the Young Master ignoring the stares from the other inspectors while Frances smiled warmly. They made their way back to the carriage.
"It seems they're all still being treated as missing persons." Sebastian commented.
"That may be true in polite society, but in the Underworld, there's another possibility." Ciel stated as he entered the carriage.
Frances followed after him.
"Hopefully, that isn't the case." She said, sitting down.
Sebastian followed after her.
"If this deals with the Underworld, will we be visiting his place once again?" Sebastian asked, sitting down beside Frances.
Frances could feel and see the exasperation and annoyance from him.
"To be honest, I want to avoid it, but there is no other way. Let's go." Ciel said, tapping his cane against the roof.
"Certainly." Sebastian said with a closed eye smile.
Frances smiled. It had been a while since she had last seen Undertaker. Just before left for the states for her holiday trip in fact.
They arrived at Undertaker's shop in no time. Sebastian stepped out first assisting the Young Master then Frances.
"Thank you." She said, once safely on the ground.
He smiled at her. Ciel opened the door to Undertaker's shop.
"Are you here, Undertaker?" He asked.
They walked inside to see lots of lit candles everywhere. The door closed making it a bit difficult to see. Frances noticed the small row of bottles on the floor by Undertaker's desk and that some of the candles were placed in a row on either side of them. There weren't too many coffins around this time. Though, it was February so it made sense. February seemed to be a slow time for death every year. His eerie laughter filled the air around them as they continued walking forward.
"Welcome, Earl."
A little rumbling sound came towards them. Frances picked up the Young Master who emitted a soft gasp and jumped out of the way of a skull rolling down the lane. She landed on the other side of the candlesticks, placing him down. The skull knocked and shattered the glass bottles.
"Very nice." Frances complimented. She turned around to face him with a smile, "Hello, Undertaker."
He chuckled again.
"Hello, Frances." He said, straightening.
The other two turned to face him as well. Undertaker turned his attention to the Young Master.
"Have you finally come to rest in one of my child-sized coffins?"
"That's enough!" The Young Master snapped.
Undertaker continued to smile.
"Well, have a seat. I've just baked some cookies."
"Would you like some help?" Frances offered.
"You know I got it." Undertaker chuckled, waving dismissively as he disappeared to the back.
Frances and the Young Master sat on the coffin to their left while Sebastian stood in front of the coffin on the right. Undertaker returned shortly with a tray of tea and cookies. She and Ciel accepted the offer. Frances thanked him. He smiled. He turned and went to his desk. The Young Master took a bite of a cookie before he got down to business, explaining the situation.
"Children's corpses…" Undertaker said.
"The children are being treated as missing persons, as no bodies have been found." Sebastian explained.
"In the Underworld, children's corpses are an everyday occurrence. (Undertaker waved a cookie around before biting into it.) Which the Earl and Frances know very well, don't you?"
They didn't waver. The Young Master stood up and took a few steps forward.
"We brought you the documents. Are there any children you've "tidied up" among them?" The Young Master asked as Sebastian placed the stack of files down in front of Undertaker.
Undertaker placed his chin on the desk, looking at the papers.
"I wonder. Perhaps I have. I feel like if you show me something amusing, it'll jog my memory. (Sebastian and the Young Master stared at the man in tired exasperation and irritation. Frances smiled widely as she shook her head in amusement.) You take my meaning, don't you, Earl? You'll have to give me that. (He leaned across the desk to stare at the boy with such highly anticipated excitement.) A first-rate laugh! (He rolled over onto his back.) Then I'll tell you whatever you want to know!" Undertaker exclaimed, wiggling his fingers in front of his face.
Frances cringed slightly. It had been a while since she had seen him this way. He was clearly bored with nothing or little to do. The Young Master looked over at Sebastian.
"Sebastian…" He ordered with a groan.
"Then…" Sebastian said, tugging down his glove, highly annoyed himself.
Frances sent him sympathy.
"Eh? You're going to rely on him again? (Undertaker sat up in the direction of his bookcase filled with jars and tools, bowing his head slightly.) I wonder if the butler or Fearless Frances aren't around, is the Earl just a child who can't do anything? (He turned his head slightly, holding the rim of his top hat.) Though, as long as it's amusing, I don't care who delivers it."
The Young Master leaned his cane against Undertaker's desk. Irritation, annoyance, and determination flowing through him.
"I'll do it!"
Frances smirked in amusement.
"You'll do it?" Sebastian questioned, incredulously.
"You get out of here! (He turned to Sebastian.) And don't you dare peek! That's an order!" The Young Master ordered, pointing at the butler with a stern, annoyed look upon his face.
Sebastian bowed with a hand on his chest.
"Yes, my lord."
The Young Master whirled to her next.
"You too, Frances!"
"Yes, Sir."
She stood and followed Sebastian towards the door.
"Good luck." She whispered.
Undertaker chuckled at that. Once she crossed the doorway, Sebastian closed it.
"Well, this is gonna take a bit…" Frances sighed.
"Indeed. I hope you brought something to entertain yourself with."
"Of course." She said, walking over to the coffin that was sitting in front of Undertaker's shop.
She sat down. She placed her bag onto the coffin. She reached into it and pulled out her Latin book and work. Sebastian sat beside her and assisted her when she needed it. Not that she needed too much of it. After all, she was part demon now. Still, she was grateful for his assistance.
As they waited, Frances worked on all her homework, Sebastian and her enjoyed a lunch date (Since the Young Master didn't specify to stay just outside the door.), when they returned, the Young Master still hadn't managed to get Undertaker to laugh, Frances read with Sebastian beside her, reading over her shoulder. They finished it as the sun began to edge closer to the other end of the Earth. She closed it, placing it into her bag, sending it back to Phantomhive Manor. She leaned against Sebastian's shoulder, smiling as she listened to the excited heartbeats of her siblings. Sebastian buried his head into her hair, inhaling deeply.
"Something is amusing them." He commented.
"Indeed." She said, happy they were amusing themselves.
He lifted her into his lap, unconcerned about the traffic since it was more than obvious no one was requiring his services at the moment. Even if someone would pass by, he would make some excuse. He would never besmirch the Phantomhive name, after all. Her left hand wrapped around his waist while her right hand rested against his chest, near his heart as she sat sideways in his lap, her cheek rested against his shoulder as well. Sebastian wrapped his arms around her. He nudged her head so she lifted it. He tucked his face against her neck, lips touching her skin. She let out a content hum.
A little while later, a quiet chuckle jolted Frances awake. Her eyes opened to see that night had fully made its appearance. She got up from Sebastian's lap, rubbing her eye to rid it of sleep as she stretched. Sebastian stood behind her. They walked to the door. Sebastian opened it, looking expressionless, however, Frances could feel his annoyance at how long it took. Frances looked inside. Her eyes widened, wondering what exactly happened inside the shop. They widened further at the mess and the state of the Young Master. His suit jacket, top hat, and cloak were off, thrown carelessly on the coffin, his sleeves were rolled up to his elbows while he was hunched over with wrinkled clothes.
"Oh my… I didn't think the Earl of Phantomhive would go that far." Undertaker chuckled with a finger at his lips and drool dripping down his cheek.
Frances and Sebastian walked in. Sebastian closed the door behind them. They made their way to the front.
"Woah!" Frances exclaimed.
He was even worse for wear at the front. His tie was undone, his clothes looked more wrinkled, face red, and his hair was a mess with several strands pointing up. Sebastian attempted to straighten his crazy hair.
"What on Earth did you do?"
Sebastian went to the front of the boy as Frances reached into her bag and summoned a comb. Sebastian began tidying the Young Master's appearance in the front, starting with his tie as the Young Master responded irritably,
"Nothing."
Frances worked on combing out the back of the Young Master's hair.
"But still, to perform these kinds of tricks for the sake of the Queen… you really are a dog."
Frances shook her head as she moved to the front of the Young Master. Sebastian passed by her to retrieve Young Master's suit jacket. Frances combed the front of his hair until it was neat as the Young Master snapped,
"Shut your mouth and keep it shut."
Frances shook her head again at the banter. She was satisfied with his hair and moved to his right as Sebastian slipped on his suit jacket.
"There. I've paid your fee. Now, tell me about the children."
Sebastian finished putting the Young Master's jacket on. Frances put her comb in her purse.
"There aren't any."
Sebastian's and Frances' heads snapped up.
"What?" The three of them asked with matching expressions of shock and disbelief.
"These children haven't been my guests (Undertaker picked up one of the sheets from the pile.), nor have I heard Underworld rumors about them."
The Young Master walked up to the desk, placing his hands on it as he looked at Undertaker expressionlessly.
"In other words, you don't know anything about this case?" He asked.
"I didn't say that. I know that I don't know."
"That's true." Frances said, "If you don't know about them, then there's a chance they might be alive."
"Indeed." Sebastian agreed, "If you don't know about them, then the children weren't murdered in the Underworld."
"Indeed." The Young Master agreed as well, "If their corpses haven't turned up neither here or there, then they could still be alive, as you said, Frances. (Undertaker began waving the paper to and fro as he held his head up with his hand resting under his chin and against his cheek.) In that case, the only thing to do is investigate that circus directly. (The Young Master grabbed his cane. He turned and began making his way to the door.) And with that settled, let's go, Frances, Sebastian."
"Yes, Young Master." Frances said.
Sebastian bowed to Undertaker before turning to follow the Young Master. Frances walked towards Undertaker. He placed the file down on the stack of paper and pushed the stack over to her. She picked it up with a smile.
"Thank you, Undertaker."
"You're welcome, Fearless Frances."
Undertaker's expression grew serious and somber. Frances immediately read the look on his face and felt the serious air around him.
"Undertaker?" She asked, worriedly.
"Don't let the remainder of your light extinguish, little Fearless Frances."
She stared at him with furrowed brows and a head tilt. The "little" sounded familiar and this sounded like a warning.
"Undertaker," The Young Master called, gaining her attention causing her to turn her attention to him, "if you get any information, contact me."
"Earl…" Undertaker called out. The Young Master paused, looking over his shoulder at him, "Each person has but one soul. Take care of what remains of yours."
Frances felt Sebastian's suspicion rise.
"You needn't tell me that."
He walked out.
"Frances." Sebastian called her, pointedly.
"One moment." She pleaded.
Frances turned back to Undertaker. They walked around the desk and met at the side of the desk. Frances held out her hands for him. He wrapped his arms around her waist, embracing her.
"Thank you for warning him and me, Undertaker." She whispered.
He chuckled his famous chuckle.
"We shall see if he truly doesn't need my warning, won't we?"
"Indeed. See you next time, Undertaker." Frances said, releasing him.
He released her as well.
"See you next time, little Fearless Frances."
He smiled at her knowingly. Frances nodded. She turned and walked out of the shop. Sebastian closed the door behind her. He easily caught up to her and walked beside her. She grazed her hand against his as they sent one another calmness. They returned to the waiting carriage. Sebastian assisted them inside yet again. Once Sebastian was seated inside, they took off for dinner then the circus.
Once there, Frances was a little surprise at the lack of color and size. She had never been to a circus before, but what she heard from customers, they were more colorful and bigger than this. There were a few designed walls with dull colors that surrounded the moderate sized blue and white tent with another grey and white striped tent (Small in size.) next to it. Sebastian assisted the Young Master and her out. She quietly thanked him. Suddenly, Frances stiffened slightly as she felt his familiar aura. She met eyes with Sebastian who sent her a confirming look. A flicker of sadness coursed through her. She pushed it away as Sebastian sent calmness to her. They walked to the entrance where the Young Master handed the man wearing bright red pants, matching red shirt with a purple flower in his left front pocket the tickets.
"Enjoy!" He exclaimed, brightly.
They walked through the brightly glowing banner that read: Noah's Ark Circus in fading purple to white with a beautiful white chandelier and hanging crystals.
"Is this it?" The Young Master asked.
Frances looked around with wide eyes. This was more like what she heard. Sebastian and the Young Master looked around as well. Different booths were set up with different games. There was a shooting game, a tossing game, throwing game, and many more. There was a lady in a lovely lavender dress juggling three brightly colored rings, a man in a dark green shirt with white stripes down the middle, matching green pants with red stripes, black shoes, a very fluffy white collar, and a white top hat with a dark purple bow with a matching feather that fell around his collar who was juggling lots of green bottles, a mini carousel behind him, another lady with purple heels, a purple skirt, purple and white striped bodice with a fuzzy purple neckline, a dark purple mask covering her eyes, her brown hair was done up in a curly bun with two short strands framing her face, a white ribbon tied in a bow where her bun sat selling balloons. It was definitely better once one passed the walls. They continued to the big tent passing by more circus people and posters of the cast posing for each act they were to perform. They walked through and made their way to their seats near the top of the tent. They moved into their rows, Frances first followed by the Young Master and then Sebastian. The three of them stared at the big chandelier in the middle of the tent.
"Fancy, isn't it?" Sebastian asked.
"Yeah." The Young Master agreed, "But all of them are like this."
There were other little chandeliers that hung from the roof, different designed poles held up the tent, a ring of blue and white circled as the stage with a gap for the entrance straight across from them, and lights lined the tent's edges. The Young Master handed Sebastian his top hat. The three of them sat down. The lights around the tent's edge began to go out one right after the other. Suddenly, a spotlight shined down in the middle of the circus ring. A man with bright orange hair and light purple eyes stood wearing black and grey pointed toe shoes, black pants with grey diamond accents on the sides of his pants, a white shirt peeked out the bottom of his black and grey diamond vest, a bright yellow thick bow around his neck, purple lined with gold with red fabric on the inside holding brightly colored balls in his hands. Frances' eyes narrowed at his hands.
"Ladies and gentlemen! Boys and girls of all ages! Welcome to Noah's Ark Circus. (Frances' eyes widened slightly as he began to juggle the balls with… a skeleton hand. "Woah." She whispered. Sebastian's gaze slid to her for a moment. He looked back at the circus leader.) My name's Joker. (He bowed allowing the balls to fall on his head.) Pleased to make your acquaintance."
The audience laughed at the "error". Joker lifted his head up. In his mouth was a blue ball. He took it into his skeletal hand with a chuckle. He closed his hand then opened it to show the audience it disappeared.
"A prosthetic arm?" The Young Master asked, noticing what Frances had noticed.
"The whole circus is jostling for a chance to give you a fun show! (Four others ran onto the stage. Two on either side of Joker. A brighter yellow orange light illuminated them revealing two small beings perched on a bar high in the air.) We'll now raise the curtain on the show of the century with a fiery feat (A man slowly approached from behind Joker as he continued to speak.) from our resident fire-eater, Jumbo!"
And the name matched the giant that let out a fiery roar as he stood to his full height with a bright fire stick in his hand causing the others on stage to run off. Jumbo was wearing brown pants with a white waistband, a gold metal circular shield with chains holding it in place around his shoulders and waist. Around his wrists, ending near his elbows, were red and black arm sleeves. Part of a red tattoo could be seen on his right shoulder. He brought the flame close to his mouth and blew making the flames bigger. The audience gasped in awe as they applauded. Once the flames died down, their attention was focused above when they saw a girl… no… an adult who had stopped growing wearing a short pink and black striped dress with white ruffles peeking out the bottom of her dress with black tights jump off a high platform holding onto a bar while her male counterpart jumped off the other platform across from her, perched on it like a bird wearing a light green vest over a white short sleeve shirt and dark green pants.
"First, our trapeze artists, in perfect harmony!" Joker introduced.
They swung back and forth for a few swings. The man dropped down with his legs hooked onto the bar, his arms held out. The girl swung then released her bar to flip twice before he caught her. Frances leaned forward in her seat in awe. The other members of the audience were clearly amazed as well. The only two that didn't seem interested were the Young Master and Sebastian. Though, both their gazes shifted to Frances when she leaned over. They saw her wide brown eyes sparkling with amazement. It made them curious. The Young Master was the one to vocalize the question.
"Have you ever been to a circus before, Frances?"
"No." She said softly, not taking her eyes off the trapeze artists as they swung down releasing one hand while they held onto one another's other hand, "I haven't."
*No wonder she's so enthralled.* Both he and Sebastian thought.
"Peter and Wendy!"
They ended their act as Peter threw Wendy who caught her bar. The both of them spun around their bars a few times before flipping off their bars and landing safely on their own platforms. The audience and Frances hollered and applauded loudly.
"Wow!" Frances exclaimed, still applauding.
Next up, a circular board was pushed onto the stage by two ladies—one had silver hair with turquoise glasses, a matching turquoise body suit with white leggings, the other lady had her brown hair styled in a high updo with silver glasses, lime and dark green bodysuit with a dark green miniskirt with white ruffles peeking out at the bottom, lime green leggings, and dark green flats with a little matching ball on each foot. Another young lady walked out wearing a… very skimpy outfit consisting of a purple and pink cap with brown bangs peeking out of it with an apple on top of her head, matching mini corset which barely reached her waist and had straps around her shoulders, a frilly pink waist band with a bit of a gap with purple straps to connect to the dark purple with light purple frills at the bottom of the short skirt, a light purple with dark purple polka dotted leggings on her right leg, a dark and light burgundy striped legging on her left leg walking out with a blond hair, green eyed man wearing black shoes, black tights, black skirt, an off grey vest with long sleeved black and white striped shirt, and a little red lined with black hat on the left side of his head. The man released the woman who was then shackled to the board by the two ladies as Joker introduced this next act.
"He never misses his mark. The bull's-eye knife thrower!"
Once the girl was strapped in, the two ladies began to spin the board. The man began throwing knives near various parts of the woman's body, getting extremely close to the lady's body and ending with a final knife into the apple upon the woman's head.
"Dagger."
Said man gave them a wink. As they wheeled the woman away, a green glow illuminated the stage. A man with white hair and the most unusual eyes—yellow and like the serpents on his body, slitted, walked on stage. Frances noticed he shimmered in some places on his skin and that he was well toned. He wore only a green loin cloth covering his lower half. She could sense he was part human and part snake. She could tell that he was born which she found interesting. Before she was turned into a half demon, she could only sense that something was different about them and what they were, not if they were experimented on or born.
"Next, an extremely unusual but magnificent dance performance by the snake charmer, Snake!"
Frances watched entranced with the appropriately named snake charmer as he and his snakes danced beautifully.
"Nothing especially unusual in the program." The Young master commented.
"Yes. And it doesn't look like those missing children are being made to perform." Sebastian said, as he glanced at Frances who was clapping loudly when Snake finished his dance.
"Beautiful." She whispered in awe.
Snake had apparently heard her. A pink blush filled his cheeks yet he looked at her and nodded anyway. She could feel his bashfulness and gratefulness. She nodded with a smile. Snake turned to walk away. Sebastian mentally smirked at her.
*Such a curious hybrid.*
She glanced at him.
*Always.*
His smirk grew wider. Their attention was grabbed by Joker directing their attention above their heads.
"Next, I would like everyone to look up. Observe the fair lady of this circus as she defies death on the high wire!"
A young lady dressed all in white, holding a white parasol walked across the tightrope.
"If they don't intend to make a show of the children, perhaps the circus' movements and the children's disappearances are merely a coincidence?"
"Perhaps." Frances said, "Or the children might not have the talent they are searching for. Though, there are ways to figure out who has talent without kidnapping children such as hosting auditions. Wow!"
The young lady on the tightrope was doing the splits and then backflipped onto the rope, holding her legs high in the air. She flipped upright. Her gaze then turned to the Young Master's for a moment. She finished her walk. The audience applauded. Suddenly, a whip was cracked against the ground. Frances didn't even flinch. Sebastian smiled, impressed with his mate. A ring of fire was lit as a woman and tiger made their way onto the stage. Frances glanced at Sebastian when she felt the spike of adoration. She was surprised his face didn't contain a blush. She returned her gaze to the performance.
"And finally, the star of the circus! (The tiger jumped through the ring of fire.) Please welcome our beast tamer! (The tiger moved in front of her. They let out a roar then laid down. The beast tamer placed her foot onto the tiger's back.) Beast!"
Beast's clothing showed quite a bit of flesh. Her black boots ended at her thigh where fishnet stockings clad each leg, a short skirt rested just below a quarter of her upper thigh, red ribbon wrapped around her waist, a corset that showed off her breasts through the crisscross of fabric, fishnet stockings also covered her arms to just below her shoulders, a red band with a beautiful red flower pulled her black curly hair from around her face, her eyes were also a ruby red, and a whip was held in her hand.
"For this act, we'd like a volunteer from the audience!"
"It appears the final act also has no connection to the children." The Young Master commented, "No matter how you look at it, this was a waste of time. (Sebastian suddenly stood up. Frances and the Young Master looked at him.) What is it? Did you find something?"
Sebastian didn't respond.
"Oh? That really distinguished looking gentleman in the tailcoat. (Joker pointed at Sebastian.) Please step onto the stage!"
"What?!" The Young Master whisper-yelled, incredulously.
Frances hid her laughter behind a wide smile. The audience applauded for Sebastian's "volunteering".
"Now, come on down." Joker invited.
Sebastian began making his way to the circus ring. Frances felt the Young Master's understanding and agreeance over what Sebastian was about to do. She wondered how long it would take him to realize that the reason was not for the case.
*Be careful, my love. Tigers are not like normal house cats.* She warned.
*Always, my darling for all eternity.*
In the background, they could hear the Young Master thinking about the case and wondering how Sebastian was going to investigate with an audience around. Sebastian climbed over the low wall. As he walked closer to Joker, said ring leader began to give him instructions.
"Okay, if you would lie down over here…" He trailed off when Sebastian walked past him.
He turned to follow where he was going with a small sound and look of confusion. Beast followed him as well in shock, wondering what was going on with him and where he was going. Sebastian didn't stop until he knelt down to one knee and cupped the tiger's face. A look of blissful adoration on his face.
"Oh, what lovely round eyes." He sighed.
The audience, including the Young Master, gasped. Frances slapped her hands over her mouth at the look of utter shock on the Young Master's face and the blissful uncaring of anyone watching demon who just casually walked up to a tiger and complimented them. She knew he couldn't help himself when it came to cats, apparently dangerous ones too.
"What soft ears."
Frances' laughter was heard where she felt the Young Master's horrific realization. He turned to her sharply.
"This is no laughing matter!" He snapped.
"It is. He loves cats so much." Frances giggled.
"I've never seen such vivid stripes. How beautiful. (He rubbed the tiger's cheeks.) What's this? (The two circus performers stared completely, utterly shocked and unsure what to think of this crazy man who just casually walked up to a tiger. Sebastian picked up the tiger's paw.) It seems your claws have grown a bit too long. They should be trimmed a bit."
The Young Master buried his face into his hand in exasperation.
"Do something about your cat freak husband, Frances!" He whisper-yelled.
Frances agreed with him at this point because despite knowing he could deal with pain very well and nothing a tiger would do would actually kill him, she never wanted him to be hurt, especially when it can be avoided like now.
*Sebastian, don't touch his paws!* She sent him, mentally.
He looked at her with a bright smile.
"But, they are so plump." He told her. He looked back at the tiger's paw that he was squeezing, "They are exceedingly charming."
The tiger, apparently did not like this and decided enough was enough. They opened their mouth wide and bit Sebastian's face! Frances gasped as the audience gasped and screamed in fear.
"Sebastian!" Frances cried out, standing from her seat.
She could feel the pain he felt yet he still remained calm, sending her calmness as she stepped into the aisle.
"Betty! Let go of him!" Beast cried, flinging her whip.
Frances' eyes widened. She ran down the steps. Sebastian was too close!
*What is she thinking?!*
"No! Don't!" Frances cried out.
She made it to the circus ring as Beast flung her whip. Sebastian easily caught the whip, allowing it to wrap around his hand. It didn't cause him pain, thankfully. Frances stopped on the outer edge of the ring, releasing a sigh of relief. The tiger released his face.
"She did not do anything wrong. (Sebastian turned his head towards Beast.) In the face of such loveliness, I was unintentionally rude. (Beast stared at him with her mouth open in shock.) Besides, if you recklessly swing the whip, you'll never be able to train her." Sebastian said, holding a piece of the whip between his thumb and pointer finger near his lips as he looked at her with a seductive smirk.
Beast looked at him with irritated anger and slight embarrassment while Frances looked at him shocked. In the back of her mind, she felt Ciel's shock as well.
*Are you flirting with her?!*
Betty, the tiger, jumped up, placing a paw on his shoulder and bit down on the back of his head. This time, Sebastian did have a look of pain and Frances felt it.
"Ow." Sebastian said.
Frances raced over. The audience screamed again.
"Betty! Spit!" Beast ordered.
"Oh my! You're a tomboy, aren't you?" Sebastian asked.
Joker tried to catch Frances however, she dodged him and walked towards the tiger and butler quickly.
"Miss!" Joker called out.
She ignored him and quickly walked toward Sebastian and Betty. Her eyes flashed fuchsia. She looked the tiger straight into her eyes.
"Let go of him now, Betty!" Frances ordered, sternly.
Betty blinked at her. She withdrew her jaw from his head. She sat down. Frances' eyes returned to normal as she turned her gaze to Sebastian who was smiling brightly. She shook her head in exasperation. Joker suddenly started laughing and applauding. Frances could feel he was trying to calm the audience.
"That was amazin'! Thank you, Sir, my Lady! Please, let's give a hand to these two for their participation!" Joker exclaimed, applauding louder.
The audience settled down and began applauding with a few sounds of unsure laughter. Frances held out her hand to her crazy demon who accepted it with an even wider smile. She helped him up. They faced the audience. Sebastian bowed while Frances curtsied. They straightened back up. Joker gestured them back to their seats. The moved back to their seats. When they arrived, the Young Master gave Sebastian a death glare. They sat down.
"And now, let's give a warm applause to our performers!"
The circus members appeared on stage sending waves and bright smiles to the audience that applauded and hollered loudly for them, Frances included. They took their bows and curtsies.
"Thank you for joining us this evening! Have a good night!" Joker farewelled.
The circus performers walked back to the performer's entrance/exit still waving and smiling. Once they were gone, the lights around the tent turned on. The audience began to disperse. The Young Master waited until most of the audience left. He gestured them to move. They did so into the aisle. The Young Master walked into the aisle and began walking down the stairs with Frances and Sebastian behind him. They got out of the tent area when the Young Master demanded answers from his crazy cat freak servant.
"Who said you could go that far?"
"My apologies." Sebastian said with such happiness that sparkling stars glowed around him, a hand on his heart, "I've lived for such a long time, but it's only cats whose fickle emotions I cannot read."
Frances shook her head in amusement.
"I tried to warn you to be careful."
Sebastian turned his blissful smiling face to her.
"You did."
He turned back to the Young Master when he started to demand answers again.
"What were you thinking being far more conspicuous than necessary?"
He sneezed. Sebastian looked at his Young Master with opened eyes and slight startlement. The Young Master turned and pointed his walking stick at Sebastian. He stopped. Frances stopped by his side as well with wide eyes.
"You know I'm allergic to cats! Walk further back!"
The Young Master stalked off, irritation and annoyance rolling off him in waves. Sebastian bowed his head.
"Very well." He said, softly.
Frances shook her head. She moved in front of him. She began wiping away the cat fur off the demon butler.
"You are absolutely adorable."
He growled lowly.
"I am not."
She laughed lightly, taking his hand from his chest to clean the cat fur off him. She intertwined their fingers, holding his hand between them so no one would see.
"Yes, you are, my adorable demon cat lover. (He let out a mix of a growl and a purr.) However (She squeezed his hand tightly. His eyes widened as he felt the anger and attempted hidden jealousy rolling off her.), why were you flirting with Beast?"
He didn't get a chance to answer because…
"There you are!" A familiar voice called.
Sebastian turned towards the voice, reluctantly letting go of Frances' hand whose own grip released his as well. Frances stepped to the right to see Joker running towards them with his hand up.
"Hold on a sec! You in the tailcoat! (He stopped in front of them. Sebastian turned his full body towards him. Frances stepped further to the right to see Joker better. He sounded out of breath as he spoke his next words.) I'm really sorry for earlier."
"No, please accept my apologies instead."
"I was surprised 'cause you suddenly got so close to the tiger. Even your wife seemed concerned. (He looked at Frances and nodded at her before returning his gaze to Sebastian.) You okay from the bite?"
Sebastian glanced sideways, sensing the Young Master had stopped and was about to give him an order. Frances smiled.
"Yes, he's all right. Thank you for checking up on my crazy husband." Frances said.
"Well, he should probably get looked at. We've got a special doctor here (Sebastian returned his gaze to Joker.) and I was thinkin' he should check you out. C'mon round the back."
*Go.*
Frances and Sebastian heard the boy order. Sebastian gave a closed-eye smile.
"In that case, I will. May my wife come along?"
Joker nodded.
"'Course." He agreed.
They made their way to the backstage. Frances held onto Sebastian's right arm that he offered to her, but not before giving him a glare. They looked around inconspicuously as they walked the backstage area. There were cages, animals, tents, lanterns, carriages, carts, barrels, and lots of people wandering about or relaxing.
"Alrighty, this way. Sorry it's so dirty." Joker apologized.
"Not a problem." Frances said.
They approached the snake charmer. Frances' excitement shone in her eyes.
"Oh Snake, is the Doc in the first-aid tent?" Joker asked.
The brown and tan snake around his shoulders pointed down the path where even more tents were at while Snake had a look of uncaring upon his face until his eyes shifted to Frances' and they widened to surprise. The green snake on the crate let out a hiss.
"Making the rounds, eh?"
Joker began walking forward. Sebastian and Frances followed after him. Frances smiled as she passed him.
"Thank you." She said, nodding her head.
The snake around his neck hissed as Snake's eyes grew even wider. Frances looked forward.
The snake around Snake's neck tapped his shoulder and hissed again. Snake jumped, slightly startled.
"'You're welcome.' says Wilde."
Frances smiled wider. Sebastian mentally sighed, though a small smirk grew upon his lips. They turned the corner when voices caught Frances' attention.
"Huh? Isn't that the guy who got bit by the tiger?" A woman asked.
Frances' gaze slid to the right to see the trapeze performers.
"It really is. The stupid guy." The man said, laughing.
Her gaze hardened into a glare.
*He's not stupid, just careless and obsessed.*
Sebastian glanced at her, wrapping a calming arm around her waist as he sent her calmness. She looked at him. A smirk grew on his face.
*Such a protective mate.*
A blush filled her cheeks. His smirk widened. They faced forward as they neared a tent. Joker push the flap open and held it open for them.
"Thank you." Frances said.
They walked through entering a well-lit tent that held three tables- two on either side of the tent and one at the far end. There were stools to sit on and people sitting around the table drinking and relaxing. Frances noticed the knife thrower sitting on a stool with a man in front of him. He was sitting on a wheel chair and all they could see was his curly black hair. They moved further into the tent.
"There he is. Doc!"
The man in the wheelchair turned at the call of his name. He had dark grey eyes behind round glasses, a black thin beard, and black smooth eyebrows on his slightly oval shaped face. He wore a white outfit like a doctor would wear.
"Hey, Joker. Is something wrong with your arm again?" Doc asked, turning towards them.
Joker, Sebastian, and Frances stopped in front of Doc. Joker laughed as he held up his prosthetic hand. Frances looked at it curiously.
"No. Today's nothing t' do with me."
Dagger jumped up out of his seat. He pointed at Sebastian with alarm written on his face.
"I was wondering who that was! But isn't he the man Betty bit on the head?"
"Betty?! That's an emergency! We need to get you to the infirmary!"
Doc grabbed Sebastian by the arm and quickly wheeled himself out of the tent to the infirmary with Frances, Joker, and Dagger following behind. Frances was a little suspicious of Doc. She sensed no injury to his legs so she wondered why he would require a wheel chair. Was he just a lazy person who liked to sit? When they got to the infirmary, Snake was no longer there. Doc had Sebastian sit down. Sebastian bent his head so the Doc could take a look at him. Doc's hands searched for the wound. Dagger, Joker, and Frances stayed behind Sebastian so they wouldn't be in the way.
"Were you really bitten by the tiger? I can't find any marks on you at all." Doc said, removing his hands.
Sebastian straightened with a bright sparkling starry smile upon his face.
"It was merely a play bite." He explained, brightly.
Joker and Dagger looked at Frances with incredulous expressions while she shook her head with an amused smile on her lips.
"Play…" Joker started.
"…bite?" Dagger finished.
Frances shrugged.
"If he says he's all right, he's all right."
There was a pause for a moment as the two and Doc stared at her.
"Well, if it's not serious, we can't ask for more." Doc said.
"Truly. If I'd let a customer get hurt, the ringleader'd have my skin!" Joker said.
Frances and Sebastian looked at Joker with surprise.
"You're not the ringleader?" They asked at the same time.
The three others looked from Frances to Sebastian in surprise of their synchronized question.
"I'm like a hired shop manager. The ringleader's a different, scary guy."
Joker hid his fear behind a laugh, but Frances could sense it anyway. Even Dagger had some discomfort when Joker spoke of the true ringleader. Doc was the only one who wasn't affected negatively in fact, Frances sensed excessive fondness from him.
"Don't come to me if you get bawled out later for saying that, boss!"
Joker laughed again.
"Doctor," A voice from the entrance of the tent interrupted. They looked to see it was Beast, "I was wondering if you could take a look at my leg…" She stopped instantly when she saw Sebastian in the room.
"Sis!" Dagger exclaimed.
Frances' eyes widened when she felt the sudden strong wave of love and affection for the woman who just came in. And if that wasn't enough, the pink hearts emanating from him would clearly give it away.
"You!" Beast snarled.
Dagger stepped closer to Beast and even went down to his knees.
"That I would be feeling bad in the same place as Sis… In this too, we're connected by the red string of fa—"
Beast completely ignored him as she walked towards Sebastian and spoke over him causing Dagger to look at her with incredulousness at her ignorance. Frances had to stifle a laugh as he reminded her of Grell.
"You're the mad gentleman from earlier! Why are you here?" She demanded.
Everyone's attention turned to her.
"Thanks to you, the show was—"
"Beast!" Doc interrupted her sternly, "What are you saying to our guest? You weren't able to control Betty, so isn't your carelessness at fault?"
Beast walked further into the room until she was closer to Doc and Sebastian. She pointed at Sebastian.
"But he carelessly—"
Doc cut her off yet again.
"No buts!" Doc said sternly, pointing his finger at her, "You're the pro, aren't you?"
"Now, now, Doc." Joker said, holding his hands up, trying to placate everyone, "Don't yell in front of customers."
"That's right!" Dagger said, zooming over to them with that bright smile of love on his face, "Instead of that, take a look at Sis' leg!"
Doc let out a tired sigh.
"Beast, from now on, you need to train Betty more. Understood?"
Beast tsked at him then sighed out a,
"Yeah."
"All right. Then let me see the prosthetic."
Beast started walking to the other end of the tent.
"Prosthetic?" Sebastian and Frances asked yet again at the same time.
Doc started to roll his chair over. Sebastian stood up from the stool. They watched Beast sit down on a table. Joker looked at Sebastian and Frances as he lowered his voice slightly.
"There's a bit of a reason behind this circus. Don't ask me why, but folks with some sorta problem gather together here. (Doc took off Beast's fishnet stocking, revealing the prosthetic leg. They looked at it with intrigue. It looked like a doll's leg with the rolling joint at the knee.) I'm amissing an arm too, but thanks to Doc, I've got this. (Frances and Sebastian looked at Joker's prosthetic hand. He moved his fingers as if it truly was a working hand. They were both amazed, though they didn't show it.) Pretty cool, huh?"
"It's because you use that hand that it goes bad so quickly." Doc scolded, gaining their attention to see he was loosening a screw in the bottom half of Beast's prosthetic.) I wish you'd learn how much work it is."
Joker laughed, guiltily.
"Are you the one that made the prosthetics for the circus?" Sebastian asked.
Both he and Frances stepped closer to get a better look.
"Yup, that's right. And its hard work, since I do everything from the carving onward."
"Carving? In other words, they're wooden?" Sebastian asked, bending down.
Frances' head tilted as her eyebrows furrowed.
"Nope. Ceramic."
"Ceramic?" Frances and Sebastian asked.
They shared a look. They knew what ceramic looked like. This was not ceramic. They looked back at the leg as Doc held it out to him.
"Well, I say ceramic, but they're made of special materials that make them light and durable."
"I see." Sebastian said, taking the foot of the prosthetic, "It also feels good."
Frances could feel Beast's embarrassment. She looked up to see Beast's face red.
"Right? And so they move smoothly, I use ball-jointed doll parts."
Sebastian's hand slid up her calf.
"Sebastian." Frances growled in warning.
"This is truly finely made." Sebastian said, too enthralled with the prosthetic feel to hear her, "Ah? (Sebastian lifted her prosthetic leg higher and then wider. Frances felt Beast's embarrassment and discomfort spike.) And this hallmark?"
Frances knew it was merely a curiosity over the hallmark on the base of her leg that he was interested in, but this position was rather… familiar and intimate. Joker stood dumbfounded with wide eyes. Dagger had blood pouring out his nose. Doc blinked in surprise. Frances released another growl. She yanked the demon butler by the back of his collar at the same time as Beast moved her leg to kick him.
"Sebastian!" Frances snarled angrily at the same time as Beast shouted, "What are you doing, you pervert?!"
Sebastian quickly picked Frances up into his arms as he moved back.
"Ah, that was rude of me. I've never seen someone so shameless react so modestly, so…"
Frances' jaw dropped open.
"Sebastian Michaelis!" She scolded with a slap to his shoulder.
Beast took out her whip and sent it flying at them. Sebastian tucked Frances' head closer to his chest as he dodged the whip.
"You don't say things like that!" She berated the butler.
Beast sent the whip at them yet again. He chuckled lightly as he effortlessly dodged the whip and Frances' cute angry face and jealousy.
"Hey! Beast, stop it! (Doc turned to the other two. Joker was still staring in complete shock. Dagger shook with anger and jealousy.) You guys, stop her!"
"You! Touching Sis' silky, transparent skin! (Dagger threw three knives at once. Sebastian tossed Frances into the air. He quickly flipped to his hands and pushed off, tumbling high into the air.) Even though I haven't touched it yet!"
Sebastian landed on a high wire. He caught Frances effortlessly. He lowered her onto the wire on his right side. He made her twirl which she did instinctively.
"I didn't actually touch her skin… though it does seem I touched a nerve."
Frances shook her head in exasperation. She knew he was teasing them at this point just to rile them up. She walked away to the side of the tent carefully.
*You're on your own, crazy chaos loving demon.*
Dagger brought out more knives, gritting his teeth in anger.
"Dagger, stop that! At this rate, the tent will—"
Dagger cut Doc off.
"More important than the tent is… Sis' purity!"
Dagger threw all his knives. Sebastian caught each and every one.
All was silent.
Sebastian smirked at them. Smugness radiated off him as Frances felt the disbelief and awe coming from Doc, Joker, and Dagger. Beast did not care. She was still angry.
"No way!" Dagger gasped.
Joker whistled in appreciation. Beast cracked her whip against the ground, gaining their attention. Frances dropped down, grabbing the wire for a brief moment before dropping to the ground. She landed in a crouch and tumbled forward before springing to her feet. She raced over to Beast. She knew he could protect himself against a whip, however, she couldn't help herself. She had to protect him.
"Don't get carried away!"
Beast sent her whip towards Sebastian. Frances raced forward, stopping in between Beast and Sebastian, and held out her arm at the same time Joker jumped in front of her, in between her and Beast, holding out his pole which the whip wrapped around. She felt the harsh aura emitting from Joker who turned to look at Beast harshly. Beast's eyes widened in shock and fear. The tension was thick enough to cut with a knife.
Suddenly, Joker smiled as flowers popped out of his pole.
"Here." He said, brightly, instantly breaking the tension.
Frances let out a sigh of relief.
"Okay, that's enough."
Joker approached Beast.
"Eh? Boss!" Dagger protested.
"Why didn't you stop them sooner?" Doc cried.
"But he-"
"Okay, okay." Joker placated her.
He turned her so her back faced him. He pressed close to her body. Frances could feel the enjoyment and love and lingering anger from Beast. Sebastian jumped down from the wire, landing gracefully on his feet with bent knees. He glanced at Frances, beckoning her to him. She glared at him, but walked towards him anyway as he walked towards Dagger.
"This pretty leg… (Joker patted her prosthetic endearingly.) It's not like I can't understand wanting to touch it. (Frances let out a scoff.) Use these flowers to cheer you up."
Frances could feel the chemistry between them though, something was holding Joker back. Beast did not accept the flowers and pulled out of his arms with a huff. Sebastian handed Dagger his knives. Frances stepped beside Sebastian.
"Anyway, you two have got some great reflexes." Joker complimented, looking at them.
"Thank you." Frances said, inclining her head.
"I'd kinda like to scout the both of you."
"Really?" Sebastian asked, rushing into the man's personal space.
Joker flinched back in shock. Frances' eyes widened. His face held such a serious expression. It had been a while since she had seen such an expression on his face.
"Eh?" Joker asked.
"The truth of the matter is that my current Master (Sebastian rubbed his forehead in exasperation.) is spoiled and rather shocking. He even refused to allow me to marry the love of my life as our status doesn't allow us to be together." Sebastian said, looking forlornly at Frances.
"Your Master… Wait! Status?" Joker asked.
Frances walked up to Sebastian. She threaded her arm threw his.
"Are you a servant at some manor? With your nice appearance, I thought you were a gentleman, as she is a lady, but…"
"Me, a gentleman? How absurd. I'm just one hell of a butler in love with a lovely creature." Sebastian said, placing a hand on his chest as he looked at Frances lovingly.
Frances smiled and nodded. She looked at Joker.
"It's true. I am a lady of the manor. Sebastian is my personal butler. We fell in love over time. We went to my Father to tell him we wished to be married regardless of status. He refused, fired Sebastian, and locked me in my room. I ran away with Sebastian. We got married anyway (She took out her necklace that held her ring. Joker gasped.) and have been happily together since. Though (Her face darkened into a glare which she turned to Sebastian who looked guiltily at her.), I am a bit appalled that he would say such things to a woman. (She looked around Joker to Beast who looked at her with anger and sympathy.) I'm sorry Miss Beast for my husband's behavior and words."
She looked at her with shock. After a few seconds of awkward silence, Sebastian cleared his throat. Attention went to him as he moved his arm to wrap around Frances' waist.
"So, a moment ago, when you said you'd like to scout us, is that true? If it is, we would certainly like to accept, but..."
"Are you being serious?"
"Aren't I always serious?"
Joker's lips parted, letting out a surprised sound before laughter escaped him. He walked forward. He clapped his hands on Sebastian's shoulders.
"Yer pretty funny! I like you!"
*It's… not a joke.* Frances thought, looking between the two.
"I don't mind if you come at any time. (He turned to Frances, winking at her.) You neither, little Lady. Though, I'd like for you to audition, if that's all right."
She nodded.
"Very well."
Beast and Dagger stepped forward. He stepped back, looking at the two in surprise.
"Hey, Joker! You can't just make that decision!"
"Now, now, he's got outstanding talent and she's got potential."
"Um…" Sebastian interrupted. They all looked at him, "The truth is, there's someone else we'd like to introduce you to."
"If you've got another person like you, that's great, but they'll have to take an entrance test like the little Lady." Joker said, looking at Frances then back at Sebastian.
Sebastian smirked.
"Understood. Then tomorrow we will bring that person to you. Thank you for today's hospitality." Sebastian bowed with a hand on his chest as Frances curtsied.
"Yes, thank you." She said.
Beast looked at her sympathetically. Sebastian and Frances straightened.
"Come, my darling." Sebastian guided her to the tent's entrance/exit.
"Wait…" Joker called out.
Sebastian held the flap open for her. He lightly pushed the small of her back. She walked out first. Sebastian turned back to face the circus performers.
"You needn't send us off."
Sebastian let the tent flap close. He turned to see Frances was already quite a few feet ahead of him. He stared after her with regret. He had some making up to do.
"Frances, darling."
She stopped. She turned her head over her shoulder, revealing a glare. He shivered. A lot of making up to do. He walked up to her.
"I'm sorry, my darling. I was interested in the design of the prosthetic. Though, your reaction was adorable. Such a possessive creature."
She turned her face away with a,
"Hmph! The difference is that you touched and flirted with her, she didn't touch you. I have never touched nor flirted with anyone, but you. Others have tried to touch me, but I always stop them. Others have flirted with me, but I make it known that I am not interested and have someone I love. I understand you were only interested in the way the prosthetic is made, but you didn't need to make those comments to her."
He wrapped his arms around her waist. Before he could lay his right hand on her leg, she yanked off his glove. He blinked in surprise. He smirked at her possessiveness. He leaned his lips to her ear.
"I'm sorry, my darling. You know how I like to tease, especially such an easy target. Please, forgive me." He whispered, nuzzling into her neck.
"Hmph. All right. (She glanced up at him with softer eyes.) I know you just like the chaos (Her eyes narrowed in warning.), but if it happens again, I won't let you touch me not even as you are now."
He growled viciously. He knew she would be able to prevent him from touching her. It made his heart swell with pride. He rocked into her. She whimpered. He placed a kiss upon her head.
"It shall not happen again, Frances. I swear on my name and my power."
She smiled. She turned in his arms. She reached up and cupped his cheeks. He leaned into her touch.
"Good." She said, leaning up.
He leaned down. They embraced one another's lips in a soft kiss. They pulled apart after a few seconds. He moved towards her right side, keeping his left arm wrapped around her waist.
"Shall we?" He asked, gesturing forward.
"Yes, let's."
They walked forward away from the infirmary. They passed a waste bin. Frances threw his glove away.
*On the way to the infirmary, we passed nine tents and ten wagons. (They looked to the right when there was a fork in the path.) And down that way are several tents of finer quality than the rest.*
They made their way over to the finer tents.
*They could be for the main circus members. Lots of theatres keep the main performers and ensembles separated.* Frances sent him.
*You have a point. As long as we're here, we might as well check them out. (He lifted her as they jumped over the rope. They landed with no sound and continued walking.) There's absolutely no sign of the children. However, this feeling we've had since earlier…*
Frances nodded in agreement.
*It's…*
A snake cut across in front of them, stopping Frances from finishing her sentence as well as stopping them in their tracks. They glanced to their right. A snake… No. The brown and tan snake opened its mouth and hissed into Sebastian's face. Frances gripped Sebastian protectively. Snake stood next to the tent with the tan and brown snake on his shoulder, an orange and white one sat on his other shoulder.
