Injustice: Demons Among Us - Concept 1
"This city demands everything from us," stated Batman as he stood on top of the GCPD Building, the spotlight shining the Batsignal into the night sky. It was currently 2 A.M. and the Caped Crusader had a plan for the day to test the members of his Bat Family as they often referred to themselves as.
"Complacency is our enemy," Stated the Batman, standing on the edge of the GCPD's rooftop with his arms behind his back, "We must always expect the unexpected and keep our skills sharp, even when all is quiet. Especially when it's quiet."
Cassandra Cain, or Orphan, stood just behind him, with her arms behind her back (1). She was in her uniform, her hood pulled over her head and mask covering her mouth and nose, she had a determined expression in her eyes.
"You know what to do?" Inquired the Dark Knight, not even turning around to face his adopted daughter.
"Of course," replied Cassandra readily, more than prepared to carry out today's test.
"That includes him," added Bruce, knowing that while he was here, he thought it best to include their plus 1 into the assessment, if only because he requires more information about him.
Cassandra seemed to pause for half a second before resolving herself for her mission. It might have only been recently they became acquainted and she would admit, she didn't know how to approach this particular individual, she would complete her mission before the end of the day.
"I will test him as well," stated Cassandra firmly before she jumped off the building and shot a grappling hook across the way.
Batman watched her disappear into the night, "I look forward to seeing the results," he said as Cassandra vanished from sight.
However, while this might be a tad bit underhanded of him, it was a double test, not just for his partners, but for Cassandra herself. She seemed distracted ever since she met this young man, not that he could blame her. Especially in light of recent events, but things wouldn't be addressed if neither of them did anything. So, he decided her would make them speak with one another, or at the very least interact with one another.
It was a mostly quiet day, at least for a little while, but in the back of his head, Nero had a distinct feeling something was about to happen. Currently, he was working on his van in a rented autoshop. He had mostly been by himself the entire day, but other than a few interactions with the garage owner, the pizza guy that brought his lunch, and a few random strangers, the nephew of Dante, the Legendary Demon Hunter, had been alone most of the day. Kyrie was out running some errands and would be back later, though he still didn't feel right leaving Kyrie alone since they were in Gotham for the next few days.
Apparently, there was a demon running around in the city and Dante was busy handling another job, so Nero was called in to help handle the creature. So far, the demon has been able to keep under the radar, though that luck would run out soon enough.
Stepping away from his van, Nero headed over to the workbench to grab a spanner from the toolbox.
"I heard you sneak in through the window," said the young man, not even looking over his shoulder, "You can come out now."
Dropping down from the ceiling, Cassandra landed with barely a sound as she stood by the garage door. The demon hunter turned to look at the intruder and sighed as he had a feeling something might happen, just didn't expect this.
"Let me guess: the bat?" Inquired Nero, getting the feeling that Bruce had set her up for this.
"Yes," confirmed Cassandra as she stood where she was, "He wanted me to test the other's awareness to ensure everyone is on their guard."
"And he figured to include me because I'm in Gotham," finished Nero.
"Yes," replied Cassandra. The two stood where they were for a few seconds, an awkward atmosphere hanging in the garage, before the young woman began to turn to leave, "I should go."
"Hold up," spoke up Nero as he set his tool down and approached Orphan, the young woman stopping to look back at the young man, "I don't think you were sent to test my awareness."
"You believe I was sent here so that we might address our relationship," inquired Cassandra as she turned to face Nero properly.
"We can't keep ignoring it forever," replied the demon hunter as he folded his arms.
Both young adults just stood looking at each other for a few more seconds, mostly just trying to grapple with the fact that just recently, the two were actually half siblings.
