I sighed as he slammed his locker shut. Another day at Yancy Academy, a school for those rejected students that have been kicked out of every other school within a hundred or more mile radius. I know, that sounds pretty harsh, but it's true. Trust me. I've been kicked out of every school I've been to since kindergarten. But it wasn't always my fault! I didn't know that the canon was loaded, I swear! And in second grade, I don't even know how I let that bear out of its cage at the zoo! And it's not like the bear hurt anyone, or like anyone was inside the school bus when I accidentally fired a cannonball at it! But, oh well. Yancy is the only school that hasn't kicked me out yet. Well, it was. I was supposed to be kicked out at the end of the year, but then, I kind of punched Nancy Bobefit. In my defense, she was bullying a first grader. But either way, now they want me out immediately. But I can't just be sent home in the middle of the school year. Well, they could but they worry that it could leave a mark on their school. So they are transferring me to a new school. I now have to go to the principal's office so he can tell me all of the details.
"We have found a great school for you to go to, Mr. Jackson. It is called Kunugigaoka Junior High School." Said the principal, who told me to call him Mr. Feo Imbécil at the beginning of the year. I'm surprised I remember.
"Wait, Junior High? I'm 12!" I cried.
"That doesn't matter to the school apparently. The principal there wants to help you be more...manageable. He says he has another kid like you already in the school. His name is Karma." Mr. Imbécil said.
"Okay then...anything else I should know? I've never heard of this school, is it around here?" I asked.
Mr. Imbécil frowned. "That is the problem. Before I tell you where it is, I must inform you, your mother has already filled out the paperwork, and it is set in stone, you will be going there."
"Okay...where is it?" I'm starting to get worried.
"Tokyo, Japan."
"..."
"..."
"WHAT! JAPAN? NO WAY! I CAN'T EVEN SPEAK JAPANESE!"
"I'm afraid that is where you will be going. You will be in class 3-E."
"Shouldn't I be in 1-E?"
"The principal decided it was best if you were in the same class as the other Troubled student."
"I'm not troubled!"
The principal just looked at me with a deadpan stare for a few minutes. Then he said "You are excused from classes for all of today. to start packing your things. You're leaving tomorrow by plane. I'm sorry for the short notice, but the principal does not like to waste time...at all."
I sighed. "Yes sir."
I had just finished packing the last few clothes in my closet when I heard the final bell ring throughout the school. I'd give it 10 to 15 minutes before Grover comes in, demanding to know where I have been. In the meantime, It's about time I introduced myself. My name is Percy Jackson. I actually probably should have started with that, but it's too late now. I am 12 years old, and I have dyslexia and ADHD. I've been kicked out of every school I've been to so far. Every time because of a field trip gone wrong, among other things too though, like punching bullies. I also love blue food. It's like a thing I have with my mom, where we will have everything blue, just to annoy my step dad Smelly Gabe. He hates blue. Also my mom and I love it. It's our favorite color. I should also probably explain what I look like so you can have a mental picture. I have short kind of wavy jet black hair, sea green eyes, and I'm about average height. My best friend is-
Slam "Percy!" That's my best friend Grover. He has some kind of foot disorder, and so he walks funny and has to use crutches. But don't let that fool you. You should see him run on encha lata day at the cafeteria.
"Hey Grover. What's up?" I asked, definitely already knowing what was up.
"Where were you all day? Did you skip?"
"No, I've been packing my stuff?"
Graver looked around. "Are they sending you home early? I thought they were going to find a new school for you?"
I nodded. "They did find a new school. The principal apparently likes to get things done quickly though, so I'm leaving tomorrow."
Grover frowned. "Oh. Is the school near here?"
I laughed "not even close! You'll never believe where it is! It's absurd!"
His frown deepened. "Where is it?"
"Tokyo, Japan. It stinks, it really does, but I'll be sure to call and text you all the time!"
Grover literally bleated like a goat. "J-Japan! T-this is bad! This is so so bad!"
I patted him on the back. "Don't worry about it, I'll be fine. Now you though, be careful of bullies. Aspeshaly Nancy."
"Why Japan! When will you see your mother?" Grover asked.
I sighed. "I don't know. But I'm starting to question if she even wants me. I mean, the school she sends me to has been slowly getting farther away from her, and now she's sending me to Japan. A whole nother country!"
"I'm sure your mother is only doing what she thinks is best for you, Percy." Grover smiled at me.
I smiled Back. "Thanks Grover. That means a lot. Really. I just wish I could have finished the school year here before leaving. Oh well. Promise to text me?"
"I-I can't. My mom, uh, t-took my phone. Sorry Persy. B-but if you send the school address, I can s-send you l-letters." Grover stutters, looking nervous. Just like he did whenever I brought up Mrs. Dodds.
"A-are you lying grover?" I asked.
He paled. "W-what? L-lie to my best friend? I mean-"
I patted him on the back. "You've been saying your mom took your phone all year. It's okay if you don't have a phone. Of course we can be pen pals! You'll just have to send me your summer address if you want to talk during summer."
He bleated again. "Of course I want to talk during summer! I'll send you my address!"
I smiled. "See? Nothing to worry about! I didn't get a phone until I had to come to this school, because it is far away from my mom."
Grover smiled. "Tha-"
He was cut off by the PA system. "Percy Jackson, please report to the principal's office with all of your things."
"Huh. I was told I wouldn't be leaving until tomorrow. Well then. I guess this is it. Bye grover." I gave him a hug.
"B-bye, Percy."
I walked out of the dorm room and to the principal's office.
