The five Princesses - Erzsébet Héderváry, the leader and tough girl; Mhairi McDougall, second-in-command and sexually confident; Laura Maes, the sweet and cheerful one; Kateryna Lazarenko, the quiet and friendly one; and Shannon Doyle, the creative and oldest one - have just arrived at school in Mhairi's pink car.
"We're here to rule the school!" Erzsébet announces, adjusting her pink jacket as she exits the front passenger door.
"I know." Mhairi says, locking her car door, and then flips her long red hair over her shoulder.
"Let's show them what we're made of." Laura laughs.
"As long as I don't have to deal with Gilbert trying to make us happen again, we'll be fine." Erzsébet laughs.
"I can't believe that you dumped Gilbert Beilschmidt." Kateryna giggles.
"I know, Erzsé here is the strongest girl at school." Shannon says.
"I was fed up with being someone's chick." Erzsébet tells them, "I don't need a Knight to be happy."
"Unlike us." Kateryna laughs.
"Not to say that's a bad thing. It's just that I don't need one." Erzsébet says.
While the Princesses were talking, the five Knights - Gilbert Beilschmidt, the leader and bad boy; Francis Bonnefoy, second-in-command and charismatic; Antonio Fernandez Carriedo, friendly and cheerful; Laurence "Lars" Janssen, intelligent and quiet; and Mathias Kohler, sporty and confident. - have just arrived at school on their motorcycles.
Gilbert walks over to the Princesses with his Knights behind him.
"Erzsé, why don't we get back together?" Gilbert asks as he tries to put his arm around Erzsébet's shoulders.
"Gilbert, as I told you over the summer, I'm done being your chick. I can't deal with you taking me for granted anymore." Erzsébet tells her ex-boyfriend as she bats his arm away with her hand.
Erzsébet looks over to her four best friends to see Francis and Mhairi making out against her pink car; Laura laughing at one of Antonio's jokes; Lars and Kateryna holding hands and talking; and Mathias flirting with Shannon.
"But I still love you, Erzsé." Gilbert whines.
"I don't, Gilbert." Erzsébet tells him firmly.
"Gilbert! Leave her alone! Erzsé obviously doesn't want to talk to you!" Laura shouts over from where she stands with Antonio.
"Laura, let Gil and Erzsébet handle it." Antonio sighs.
"Laura, I'm fine, thanks." Erzsébet says, "As for you, Gilbert Beilschmidt, we're over, and that's it."
Erzsébet then turns to Laura and Shannon, who are standing talking with Antonio and Mathias. Mhairi has stopped making out with Francis, and the two are talking with Lars and Kateryna.
"Remember, no one else knows about us being married or that I'm pregnant." Kateryna tells Mhairi and Francis.
"Why are you reminding us?" Mhairi asks.
"Because you two are bad at keeping things quiet." Lars says.
"That's Francis. He's the biggest gossip." Mhairi laughs.
"Hey, we all know you're just as bad, Ri." Francis shot back.
"Fran, Ri. Stop it." Kateryna tells the arguing couple.
"Sorry." Francis and Mhairi say at the same time.
The two couples then rejoin the rest of the Knights and Princesses to head to their lockers before Homeroom.
When Erzsébet reaches Homeroom, the only empty seat she notices is next to Gilbert; sighing, she heads over when Marijana Krizman, one of her friends, shouts her over.
"Erzsébet, over here." Marijana shouts.
"Thanks, Jana. You're the best." Erzsébet says, sitting down at the desk next to Marijana.
"Anything for you, Erzsé." Marijana explains, "I know you would do the same for me."
"It sucks that my best friends are all happy in their relationships, and I'm newly single." Erzsébet sighs.
"I know how you feel. Mariana and Andrijana have boyfriends, and I don't have anyone. Well, there's also Jasmina, who's also single. But we must be happy for them." Marijana tells Erzsébet.
"I am happy for Mhairi, Laura, Kateryna, and Shannon, but it's just hard as Gilbert and I broke up during a big fight and don't speak anymore." Erzsébet sighs, "I loved Gil, and I still do, to a certain extent, but I wasn't happy."
While Erzsébet and Marijana talked, Mhairi, Laura, Kateryna, and Shannon were gushing about their partners.
"Guys, we should enter the school talent show." Shannon tells her three friends.
"Sounds good." Mhairi agrees.
"I'm in." Laura says.
"Why not." Kateryna says.
"We better tell Erzsé." Shannon tells the others as the bell goes for their first class.
Erzsébet meets up with Mhairi and Kateryna, and the three head to biology and tell Laura and Shannon that they'll meet them at their usual picnic bench.
After two boring classes, Erzsébet meets the rest of the Princesses at their usual spot and sits between Kateryna and Laura.
"What do you think about entering the talent show, Erzsé?" Shannon asks from next to Mhairi.
"If you four want to enter, I won't stop you from entering the talent show." Erzsébet tells her.
"Are you sure you don't want to enter?" Mhairi asks.

"Yeah, it's not my thing." Erzsébet sighs, "I'll support you guys though."
"Anyway, what's going on between you and Gilbert?" Laura asks.
"I mean, we split up over the summer, and the last time we spoke without having a massive argument was at Lars and Katy's wedding, and that was not to distract from the newlyweds." Erzsébet explains, sighing.
"We got married six weeks ago at the start of the summer." Kateryna gasps.
"I know. Gil still likes me, and I feel I've outgrown Gilbert." I sigh, "I still like Gilbert deep down, but he's just too immature, and he would rather be with his motorbike and his friends than with me."
"I don't blame you for dumping him." Mhairi says.
"Enough about my relationship dramas. What about your boyfriends and husband?" Erzsébet asks.
"We're doing great, happy together, and Francis is so sweet and loving." Mhairi gushes.
"We're also fine, and Mathias has asked me out on a date this weekend." Shannon smiles.
"Oh, exciting." Laura babbles excitedly, "Anyway, I've been having fun with Antonio."
"That's not what Lars said after you told us about your relationship." Kateryna laughs.
"Lars just doesn't want me to date anyone." Laura says, annoyed with her older cousin, "But, at least you can handle him, Katy."
"Anyway, we're doing great despite everything that's happened." Kateryna smiles softly.
"Is this about the whole being pregnant thing, Kat?" Erzsébet asks gently.
"Well, yeah. I didn't plan on getting pregnant or married at seventeen, but I love Lars and our baby." Kateryna smiles.
"I still can't believe out of the five of us, you were the one to get pregnant." Shannon says quietly.
"What are you going to do when the baby comes?" Mhairi asks.
"I don't know. I will still be at school as I'm due in March. After that, I want to train as a nurse, but that might need to wait a couple of years." Kateryna sighs.
"You know that I'm going to help with the baby." Laura smiles.
"I know you will, and we both thank you." Kateryna smiles sweetly.
"And Laura isn't the only one wanting to help." Mhairi smiles.
"Thank you, Mhairi." Kateryna smiles at Mhairi.
"Your baby is going to be a little Knight or Princess." Erzsébet laughs.
"I don't know how to explain it, but we're having a little girl." Kateryna explains excitedly.
"A little Princess." Laura beams.
"She might carry on the Princesses." Erzsébet smiles.
The bell goes off, and the five Princesses get up and head to their classes: Erzsébet, English; Mhairi, art; Kateryna and Laura, home economics; and Shannon, music.
In English, Erzsébet sits next to Marijana, Andrijana Kovak and Jasmina Terzic.
"Hi, Erzsé." Jasmina greets sweetly.
"How was your summer?" Andrijana asks excitedly.
"It was alright, other than dumping Gilbert and then dealing with him trying to get us back together." Erzsébet explains.
"Oh, hope things get better, Erzsé." Jasmina smiles at Erzsébet.
"Thanks." Erzsébet smiles back, "Anyway, I've heard you got a boyfriend, Andri?"
"Yep, his name is Rumen, and he's just the best." Andrijana tells Erzsébet excitedly.
"I'm so happy for you." Erzsébet beams.
"Thanks." Andrijana smiles.
