Chapter 13: Zombies and Mummies

(The 10th floor of the hotel)

The elevator arrived on the 10th floor and Luigi was seen shining the flashlight to his face as the door opened. Then Rottytops looked out the elevator and looked around this floor.

Rottytops- I recognize this layout. This looks Egyptian.

Diddy Kong- How do you know?

Rottytops- Sequin Land is mostly a desert and take a lot from Arabic culture.

Tails- She is right. I've seen stuff like this in the museums back at home.

(Later at another room on the Egyptian floor)

Luigi, Diddy Kong, Bandana Dee, Tails, and Rottytops arrived in this one huge room after walking down the hallway. To their surprise, they were now in one huge desert.

Diddy Kong- Hey Bandana Dee, is this dry enough for you?

Bandana Dee- Maybe a little too dry.

Tails- First, a botanical garden floor. And now an entire desert.

Rottytops- Complete with spooky pyramid tomb in the center.

Diddy Kong- How much you want to bet our next boss ghost is inside there waiting for us?

Luigi- Then let's just get inside before more of those ghost employees show up to try and lure us inside!

(Inside the pyramid)

Luigi, Diddy Kong, Bandana Dee, Tails, and Rottytops arrived in this room with a large sarcophagus in the center.

Luigi- Rottytops was right about this being Egyptian themed. This is making me think of that one queen, Cleopatra, from Egypt. I almost thought this could've been inspired from Dry Dry Ruins.

Diddy Kong- Or those temples that I remember King K. Rool locking Lanky and Tiny Kong in during that Golden Banana hunt.

Luigi- Let's see if the elevator button is in here.

Luigi attempted to remove the lid, but it was very heavy.

Luigi- Can I get a little help here?

Then Diddy Kong, Bandana Dee, Tails, and Rottytops assisted Luigi in removing the lid of the sarcophagus. Eventually, the lid slid off and revealed this Pharoh ghost inside. Her arms were folded across her chest like a mummy and her eyes were closed.

Luigi- Oh crap! A mummy ghost!

Diddy Kong- Do you think she's awake…

Then the ghost opened her eyes.

Tails- Yes, she's awake!

Then she rose out of her sarcophagus and glared down at them.

Serpci- Who dares to disturb my eternal rest?

Luigi- Sorry about that! We're just looking for the elevator button and…

Serpci- Silence! All those who seek to rob from my tomb shall pay!

Then a trapdoor in the floor opens up and Luigi, Diddy Kong, Bandana Dee, Tails, and Rottytops fall down it. Luigi landed on this stone floor in some chamber, but before he could look around, Tails landed on top of him. Then Diddy Kong landed on top of them, and Bandana Dee after that, and then finally Rottytops.

Luigi- Can somebody move their…

Before Luigi could finish, another trapdoor opens and they fall down again. This time, into a pit of sand. Luigi's head was sticking out of the ground like an ostrich. Eventually, Luigi pulled his head out of the sand. Then Luigi saw Tails rise out of the sand after being completely buried.

Diddy Kong- It's alive!

Bandana Dee- I don't think now's the time for jokes, Diddy.

Then Luigi saw Rottytops' head between his feet on the ground.

Rottytops- Hey, have you seen my body?

Then Tails saw Rottytops' body in the corner feeling around for her head. Tails picked up Rottytops' head and handed it to her body.

Tails- There you are, Rotty.

Rottytops- Thanks, Tails.

After Rottytops attached her head back on, Luigi heard Professor E. Gadd calling on the Virtual Boo.

Luigi- Hang on. I better take this call.

Luigi put on the Virtual Boo and saw Professor E. Gadd.

Professor E. Gadd- Lu…you hear…e? The signal cut out there all of a sudden. What's wrong?

Luigi- This Pharoh ghost dropped us down a pit in her tomb.

Diddy Kong- Twice.

Professor E. Gadd- You fell down a sand pit? Ah, a classic trap you'd find in a pyramid. Luigi, you've got to find an escape route! And watch out for more traps!

Then Professor E. Gadd hangs up and Luigi puts away the Virtual Boo.

Bandana Dee- Find an escape route…how?

Then Tails began sucking up some of the sand with his Poltergust.

Luigi- Tails, what are you doing?

Tails- Finding our escape route. This sand doesn't appear to have been placed from above this pit. That must mean the way the sand got in here is buried just beneath us in this sand pile.

Then everyone began sucking parts of the sand as they moved downward into the sand pit. Eventually, they hit the bottom of the pit and there was a statue of Serpci surrounded by several serpent statues. However, one of the arms on the Serpci statue had her hand sticking out. When Luigi pulled on that arm, it was revealed to be a lever, opening a secret passage leading out of the sand pit.

(In the chamber above)

Luigi, Diddy Kong, Bandana Dee, Tails, and Rottytops finally got to that room where they were in before they fell down a second trap door.

Luigi- This is making me think of when Mario went into the Dry Dry Ruins to rescue the Star Spirits. Even feels as dark as Mario described.

Tails- Over there! I think I see a door on the higher section of this tomb. It must lead back to the surface.

Bandana Dee- Surface? We're on the 10th floor of this hotel. Not the subbasement.

Tails- Mean out of this tomb and back into the sand filled room.

Rottytops- But how are we going to get to it?

Then several sarcophagi opened up and out came several mummies.

Diddy Kong- Uh…are these those Gibdo's Link told us about?

Then the mummies rushed at them, but Luigi managed to knock them all to the ground with a burst attack. Then Tails and Bandana Dee managed to suck the bandages off of them, revealing the mummies to just be ghosts in stilts. With the ghosts exposed, Diddy Kong flashed them so Luigi and Rottytops could suck them up.

(In another room inside the tomb)

Luigi, Diddy Kong, Bandana Dee, Tails, and Rottytops entered this one room.

Bandana Dee- Think we'll find the way out in here?

Luigi- This whole place is like one giant puzzle. Like getting out of that sand pit. Since we haven't looked in this room yet, there must be some kind of clue.

Then the door closed behind them and sealed them inside.

Tails- Or another boobytrap…

Then this poisonous gas was being released into the room. This made Luigi, Diddy Kong, Bandana Dee, and Tails drop to the ground and choke. However, Rottytops seemed just fine.

Rottytops- Oh shit! This gas is gonna kill them unless I do something!

Then Rottytops saw the gas was coming out of holes with various shapes in the walls and that there were certain glowing objects that were the same shape sticking out of the sand. So Rottytops used her Poltergust suck up all the objects and shoot them into the correct shaped holes in the wall. This stopped the poisonous gas from being released into the room and revealed a lever in the wall. Rottytops turned to see Luigi and the others were recovering from that poison gas.

Rottytops- Oh, thank goodness! Almost thought you were goners there!

Bandana Dee- How come you weren't affected?

Rottytops- Zombies are actually immune to poison gas.

Diddy Kong- Why is that?

Luigi- Probably because she's already a walking corpse, so there's nothing for the poison to decay.

Then Luigi got up and pulled the lever. This caused the sand in the other room to rise up.

Luigi- We better hurry back there if we want to ride that sand to the door out of here!

(Outside the pyramid)

Luigi, Diddy Kong, Bandana Dee, Tails, and Rottytops exited the pyramid and were back in the sand filled room from earlier.

Tails- I'm glad to be out of there! I'm going to be cleaning sand out of my fur for weeks!

Luigi- But that ghost who dropped us down there…where did she go?

Then Sercpi appeared behind Luigi and blew some sand across the back of his neck.

Luigi- (Shivers)…what was…

Then Luigi turns around to see Sercpi floating behind him.

Serpci- I see you've gotten out of my tomb. No matter! I'll deal with you all myself!

Then Serpci surrounded herself in sand until it too the shape of her head. Luigi and Diddy Kong attempted to suck some of the sand away, but then giant asps made of sand appeared out of her head like Medusa and attempted to bite them. Luckily, Rottytops pushed Luigi and Diddy out of the way and bit her instead.

Serpci- Why isn't the poison from the asps doing anything? Wait…your flesh is already dead! You're a zombie?!

Rottytops- That's why I'm immune to poison.

Serpci- No fair!

Little did Serpci realize, Tails and Bandana Dee were sucking up more of the sand surrounding her from behind. Serpci quickly sank into the sand in an attempt to get away from them. When she rose back out of the sand, she surrounded herself with more sand asps and had them launch sand arrows at them. Diddy Kong and Bandana Dee blew some sand out to make a sand wall to block the attack. Meanwhile, Tails flew up behind Serpci and flashed her with his flashlight. Before Serpci could do anything, Rottytops caught her in her Poltergust's suction and eventually sucked her up. Then Rottytops' Poltergust spat out the elevator button.

Luigi- Looks like we have the button for the 11th floor now!

Diddy Kong- I hope it's less sandy! Like Tails, I'm gonna be cleaning sand out of my fur for weeks!
